Fusion - C Grade Fusion vs Frantics, won 10-7 FRONT PAGE TEAM After a slow start, it was solid win 10-7 with the team highlighting their versatility by playing several positions well! Kiah was our player of the match batting and fielding brilliantly. HIGHLIGHTS: Great team effort with consistent, patient batting; even though it was not always easy to know where the umpire s strike zone was at times. Great to have Leanne and Jaz supporting us on the sidelines and livening up the drinks afterwards! FIELDING POSITION: 1 Madge pitched for the whole game doing an superb job, in spite of her frustration that many corners weren t called by the Umpire. 2. Kirsty and Darcee both had outstanding catcher games with virtually no balls getting past them. 3. Katrina dug many a ball out of the ground at first for the outs.a fabulous effort. Also solid batting, tiring the pitcher in one innings with about 6 foul balls. 4. Lee had some great assists at 2nd base, plus in spite of tired legs ( as 1st Batter) was the 1st and 2nd batter to score a run with her speedy base running! 5. Caitlin and Emilie both fielded strongly at 3rd with Emilie taking a great line drive and batting consistently to the outfield. 6. Jenny then Kiah and Lee all had stints at shortstop fielding cleanly, assisting several outs at first. 7. Kiah, Caitlin and Emilie shared left field duties admirably, fielding several ground balls and getting them in quickly to cut off the extra bases. 8. Emilie, Jenny and Kirsty rotated thru centre field with only one big hit getting past. 9. Darcee, Jenny and Kirsty played right field with Kirsty showing how important backing up 1st can be, by stopping a couple of pass balls. Well Done everyone Robyn Robyn
Freckles - Teeball Freckles vs Firecrackers, lost Written by Freckles Captain Week 13, Aurelia Ruberto This was our first game back after our long Christmas holiday break. Even though we hadn t played each week, today s game felt like our skills had improved and we played extremely well as a team. This was shown through our very good fielding, moving back to our bases to receive the ball, great safe hitting, leading off the bases, and getting loaded bases several times in the game. This week the Freckles versed the Firecrackers. Unfortunately, we lost 39-23, however this was an improvement since we played this strong team last time. GAME HIGHLIGHTS CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE...
Freckles continued... Mariana good work in the outfield and fantastic pitching for your first time pitching Olivia great job also at pitcher and a huge hit into the outfield, your batting has really improved Lauren nice tag out on 2nd base and a fantastic hit meaning you got to 2nd base Darcie such an amazing and really strong throw to Alysia on first base and you tried really hard when you played catcher Charlotte good catch from Juliet from the outfield and you played well on 1st base Shona you played really well on 3rd base always ready to catch the ball, in particular when I threw to you from pitcher and we nearly got a player out Juliet strong throws from the outfield ensuring we got the ball back to the bases and super hitting and running around the bases Alysia fielded a powerful throw from Darcie at first and kept the team moving through the bases with her solid batting Sophie was a great team player in the outfield and also at catcher, doing her best to stop runners getting home. You tried really hard with your batting also this week Aurelia (Me) I had a fun first game for I loved playing pitcher but could improve on my batting by hitting towards 3rd instead of first or pitcher so I don t get caught out. Thank you to our absolutely outstanding coach Janine. You are fantastic at coaching and encouraging us to be team players and help us to focus when we are on the field. I think our Friday training helped us improve this week. Thank you to our super coach. A big cheer for the freckles rah-rah-rah boom! Coach s comment: A huge cheer for the Freckles! Aurelia has summed up our game brilliantly. I was very proud of you all each contributing in different ways to come together as a team. For the vast majority of the team, Saturday was only your 10th ever game of softball. Standing on the sidelines I can see you are all starting to learn to anticipate the ball with your fielding and hitting flatter when in the box. I can t ask for more than that girls keep it up! A hearty congratulations to our sister team the Firecrackers who showed lots of skill on Diamond 5; quite a few of you having returned from u/12s in Canberra recently which I heard was a lot of fun ~ Janine
Firecrackers - Teeball Firecrackers vs Freckles, won Great fun game between the two Forest Allambie Softball Club Modball teams. Lots of great batting and fielding from both teams. Fielding award went to Loulou and the batting award to Lily.
Foxes - Division 3 Foxes vs Stars, won This week the Foxes played the Stars! It was such a fun and exciting game for both teams, and everyone had great sportsmanship and did amazingly! Here is a little bit more about the game: 1st Inning (Batting): Marie is first on the batting line. After an amazing hit she races to first base, then sneaks the rest of the way home! After a few more batters it s Jazzy s turn and she gets hit by the ball, but nevertheless she made it home! Milli also got hit by the ball on her go too but made it home. Maddy had a close call at home but she was safe. (Fielding): This inning begun with a great catch by Charleigh! She caught a fly ball and got the batter out with ease! Later, Niamh swiftly passed the ball to second base just in time for Kira to get the runner out! The inning ended when the Foxes got the third batter out. 2nd Inning (Batting): Niamh started off with a great bat that would be tough to beat! Her hit when far and she made it to 2nd base, then sneaked the rest of the way home. Jazzy s bat was going to be a foul but the Stars didn t quite catch the ball and Jazzy made it to first base! Natasha batted a fly ball and luckily the Stars did not catch it before it touched the ground. Milli steals the 5th home soon after. (Fielding): Natasha and Marie did an amazing job pitching and catching even though they were under a lot of pressure. Jazzy caught an amazing fly ball and got the batter out! Tash also did fantastic when she tagged the runner out after chasing her back and forth! 3rd Inning (Batting): Kira and Charlotte both got hit by the ball when batting but they both made it back home! (Fielding): Charleigh was pitching the fastest this game, and Tash was doing an amazing job in catcher! Charleigh also threw the ball to 1st base to get batter out and Milli caught a fly ball and passed to 3rd base for a double out! CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE...
Foxes continued... 4th Inning (Batting): The Foxes were one point ahead of the Stars and all they had to do was stall for the 15 minutes that were left of the game! Charleigh hit a fly ball to right field, but the Stars didn t catch it, so Charleigh just made it to 2nd base. Milli also hit a fly ball to centre field but only made it to first base. Jazzy hits the ball and it goes far! It gets Milli and Charleigh home and Jazzy sneaks home! Catherine gets home after an amazing bat from Niamh! The final score this week was extremely close, to the Foxes! Everyone did an amazing job and Niamh was rewarded with player of the week! Captain of the week Kira
Fireflies - Teeball Fireflies vs Baby Cocos won A tough game for the Fireflies against the Baby Cocos, playing 3 short, 6 vs 9, however the girls showed a lot of pace when batting, and tempo control while fielding. In the 1st innings the Fireflies opened the batting after Taylor won the toss. Ashlea was first at bat with a solid hit to get going. Mikayli with the hit of the innings out between second and third was a highlight. All girls got home and on the scoreboard in the innings scoring 15 runs to get underway. The first innings with the mitts on in a number of weeks was tough with limited players, especially with the Baby Cocos having some of the strongest hitters we have seen this season. There were a couple of good takes from Georgia in the pitching position. The girls did well with a number of holes in the field, ending the first even at 15 a piece. In the 2nd Inning, Ashlea showed some great pace from third home to beat the arm of the fielder. Illaria had a good couple of bats, consciously placing the ball into holes. Evie had some strong base running getting home and some runs on the board. Georgia has some strong running to beat the throw. Mikayli showed tenacity with her running and got a lucky deflection of the ball that helped her home. Throughout the innings there were some very strong arms from the Baby Cocos that challenged the girls. The Fireflies posted 15 again in the second. The second innings was a strong performance by all of the girls, restricting the Baby Cocos to 12. It was apparent that the girls are showing some more awareness of the location of runners and identifying the fastest base to get the ball to. The girls showed some good teamwork filling the gaps in the field. The teamwork in the field in this innings would decide the game. CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE...
Fireflies continued... The Fireflies were up at the top of the 3rd, Taylor ran hard and made it to 2nd even with her opponent as an obstacle. Ilaria showed some solid batting and almost got hit in the head but strategically ducked and touched base. The Fireflies were consistent, posting another 15 runs in the Third, however this would be redundant as the Baby Cocos did not bat for the bottom of the third as time was up. It was a great effort by the Fireflies to win against a very strong opposition. Taylor would take the player of the match honours. The Baby Cocos has some of the strongest players we have witnessed this season. The Fireflies were better tactically when managing time, rotating quickly through the batting order, and getting on the ball quickly when fielding, but slowing the play. A real gritty effort from the Fireflies after the holidays. Captain: Taylor
Fever - C Grade Fusion vs Rookies, won Fever restarted the season well with a strong win over the Rookies. Jane lead the way with some outstanding pitching in hot conditions and as she tired Deb chipped in to finish things off. Our fielding was excellent with Deb making a great play at shorty and some lovely catches in the outfield by Kelly. Taylor & Sab kept things on track with excellent catching. Our batting was its usual consistent standard though we did hit a few too many fly balls. Our base running was a highlight with extra runs constantly delivered through our speed & aggressive decision making (ie. doing what we were told). Well done Fever. Doug
Fallin Angels B Grade Fallin Angels vs Eagles blue, won 10-6 With the rains coming down through Friday night, few would have predicted that Softball games would have been on this week. But with the humidity well above a comfortable level and with lots of sweaty bits, the Fallin Angles took to the diamond against Eagles Blue, in a game that was full of banter (as usual). It was a slow start as we struggled to find energy in the stickiness, but in true Angles spirit, we piled on the encouragement and vowed to take the win for KB! (Happy Birthday!). There were those moments to remember... On the offensive, Trudie and Julie decided on a bunting game and came up strong. Julie, never one to miss an opportunity on a pass ball (or afraid of a graze to two), headed round first with a very close slide into 2nd to avoid the tag. With bases loaded, Coach Ness (aka Boss), smashes the ball deep into left field, bringing home 2 runners for an innings that all but sealed our win. CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE...
Fallin Angels continued... Defensively, our trio of Pitchers, Caroline, Jo and KB were phenomenal! Holding the opposition to very few hits. Helen got her weekly fix chasing fly balls (one at 2nd base) and another that was almost taken by the wind deep in left field, but it Esther s call for Julia (Hoolia) to catch the fly ball directly above her head that had coach shaking her head and the rest of the team laughing. With a 10-6 win under our belts, the Angels (and some friendly Slayers) clinked our glasses and tucked into some yummy cheese and biscuits to celebrate KB s (Bourbon) birthday and another beautiful afternoon amongst friends. Helen Wyatt Fallin Angels Player
Slayers - A Reserve Slayers vs Eagles Black, won 8-7 The two oldest teams in A Reserve squared off in a match for the ages! Actually, not really we are mostly too old to worry about the score. This was a game where we allowed Eagles to score 5 runs in the bottom of the first and then played catch up for the remainder of the game. Finally we were able to string some hits together and with some good base running and some reasonable pitching by Eliza (the baby of the team) we caught and then passed the opposition. Going into the bottom of the last Eagles needed 4 to win. They scored a run, we got an out. They scored another run, we got an out. They loaded the bases a screamer of a throw from our Short Stop Giddy-up to our first base Helga enabled us to win the game - whew. The win puts us in fourth spot heading into the last couple of games of the season. Will we stay there is the million dollar question. Thanks for coming to watch President Doug (and our other two Freemans - Sam and Bel who were both injured!)
Firebirds - Division 2 Firebirds vs Starfish, won First game back after the long Christmas break.. Chloe has moved to Brisbane, so Firebirds are down to 9 players. Good news though everyone is playing this week including Megan (back after an operation). Firebirds fielding first.. what an amazing start. Anna pitching first up and it s the Pitcher s Perfect Innings. Anna seems willing to do it all on her own - manages a K2 (great catching by Kasey) / takes a catch and makes a run out 3 up / 3 down great start Firebirds. Backed up by a great batting innings and Firebirds up 5-0 at end of first innings. Great effort from Piper stealing third and having to do the splits on the base to avoid out! Second innings and Anna is again pitching with Kasey at catcher. Starfish have got their eye in a little now and manage to get 5 home. With Firebirds up to bat again, the girls again bat well and some sneaky running between bases results in 5 home again. Firebirds up Third innings, change of pitcher and Piper steps up to the pitchers mound. Starfish pile on the pressure and get 5 home. Firebirds batting sees them struggle as a new pitcher is introduced and only get one home. Now it s close and the next innings will really matter. Firebirds CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE...
Firebirds continued... Fourth innings Piper pitching and Lucy catching. Piper gets her eye in with the pitching and Firebirds restrict it to 3 home. Means Firebirds need 2 home to win (or to stretch out the innings). Kasey steps up to bat first it s a massive hit and Kasey runs the bases to celebrate. HOME RUN!! What a shame it wasn t loaded bases! Next up is Anna who attempts to steal home, but is just tagged at the last second! Firebirds still need at least one more home to win! Good batting decisions saw Firebirds hold firm to get to base and great stealing/running between bases resulted in Firebirds winning by Well played girls held your nerve and played a great game.
Fairies - Teeball Fireflies vs Mermaids, lost The Fairies came back after the holidays to face the Mermaids. We were all a bit late because up on Belrose Mountain the weather looked pretty ordinary and nobody expected the game to go ahead. But down by the seaside it was a great day for softball. The Mermaids have been our nemesis this year. They have some very good and very experienced players and had beaten us soundly in our first meeting. It was a great test and we did very well. It was our defence that kept us in the match with the 2 Emily's fielding well to get the runner at first. Eloise also combined with Chelsea to get another out at third. When we batted it was very consistent hitting with Zoe and Sophie hitting strongly. This gave us a two run lead. In the second Ella made a great play at 2nd base all on her own but the Mermaids were hitting well. When we batted their fielders made a couple of great catches to even the score. So all tied up we went to the 3rd inning and CC fielded like a champion to record 3 outs Harper also made an out to restrict the Mermaids to 10 runs so it was 11 to win!! We were going well until another great catch turned into a double play and we fell just 1 lonely run short. It was a great performance considering we had been beaten by 10 runs in our first game against the Mermaids. It was only some great catches that made the difference. Well Played Fairies!!
