The teams have split their 12 contests this year, though last night was the Baby Cakes first victory in five attempts at Bricktown Ballpark, having been swept from April The Cakes are 8-7 thus far in a stretch of playing 19 straight against the Dodgers and Colorado Springs. YESTERDAY S NEWS Zac Gallen allowed one run and three hits in 6.0 innings, and the Baby Cakes used a five-run fourth inning to defeat Oklahoma City, 5-1. Gallen allowed a run on two hits in the first inning before retiring 11 of the next 12 and finished with seven strikeouts to earn his first win since May 15. The Baby Cakes broke through against Brock Stewart in the fourth by sending eight batters to the plate and capitalizing on three Dodgers errors. Tomas Telis ripped a two-run triple, and came all the way around to score on Jake Peter s error. Peter Mooney then drove in Cristhian Adames on a sacrifice fly following the second error of the inning by Kyle Farmer. Jose Quijada retired all six batters he faced out of the bullpen, including three via strikeout, and Nick Wittgren worked around Farmer s leadoff single in the ninth to close out the win. THE OPENER Dillon Peters takes the mound for his 11th start of the season in game one. Peters worked 5.0 solid innings in his last outing on Thursday vs. Colorado Springs, yielding two runs (one earned) with six strikeouts, but suffered the loss in a 3-2 setback. He scattered two runs and seven hits in a season-high 7.0 innings vs. Oklahoma City on June 29, the most recent of his four quality starts with the Cakes. The southpaw opened the season in the Marlins rotation, making six starts and going 2-2 with a 6.31 ERA before being optioned to New Orleans on May 4. Though the Baby Cakes are the designated home club in the opener, Peters is 0-2 with a ERA (28 ER/20.2 IP) in five starts away from the Shrine on Airline. On This Date... THE NIGHTCAP Odrisamer Despaigne makes his eighth appearance (third start) of the season in game two. His last start came in a loss at Colorado Springs on July 7, where he gave up four runs (three earned) and six hits in 4.0 innings. Despaigne had entered that start as the reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week, having worked 10.1 shutout innings across a pair of outings, including scattering five hits in in 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and no walks against the Dodgers on July 1. He began the season with Miami and pitched in 11 games, going 2-0 with a 5.31 ERA. DEAN OF HITS Austin Dean has hit safely in 26 of his last 33 games, batting.314 (38x121), and owns a.334 average overall between NOLA and Jacksonville, good for 15th in all of Minor League Baseball. MOON SHOT After tying his Triple-A career-high with three RBI on Saturday night, Peter Mooney plated three more runs Sunday with his first home run of the year. Despite failing to hit safely last night, Mooney did reach base on a walk, and also drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. He had 10 homers with 31 stolen bases in Galloway swiped his 18th bag of the year on Thursday, tied for fifth-most in the PCL to extend his New Orleans career stolen base record to 68. Galloway, who ranks sixth in the PCL with 59 runs scored, is 13x34 (.382) in his last 14 games with four home runs and six RBI.
