The two teams were in the same NCAA Regional in 2006 but did not meet. The Seminoles lead the series 31-3 but two of the Eagles wins have come under head coach Natalie Poole. Georgia Southern is coming off a 2-1 series win at Furman last weekend, capping it off in convincing fashion Saturday with an 11-2 victory. The win in game two on Friday snapped a four-game losing streak. The Eagles rode the bat of Robyne Siliga who hit.571 with a slugging percentage against Furman. She reached base at a.700 clip and hit a home run and drove in fi ve runs. She hit a three-run bomb on Saturday, part of a 2-for-2, three-run, four-rbi performance. Siliga leads the league in hits (42), RBI (37), walks (22) and total bases (70). She paces the team in average (.389), home runs (8), on base percentage (.496) and slugging percentage (.648). She ranks second on the team in average (.333) and stolen bases (11). SILIGA BECOMES GSU HOME RUN QUEEN With her sixth home run of the season against George Mason (3/15), junior Robyne Siliga passed former teammate Sam Steiner ( ) to become the school s all-time leader in home runs... Siliga smashed nine roundtrippers in her Freshman of the Year campaign in 2005 and hit six last season... She currently has eight in POOLE NEARS COACHING MILESTONE GSU head coach Natalie Poole is inching towards the program record for most victories... Poole currently has 195, six shy of Bill Speith s mark of The 2002 SoCon Coach of the Year, Poole has recorded 28 or more wins in each of the last fi ve seasons and has just one losing league campaign. SILIGA, LALIBERTE SWEEP PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS Melissa Laliberte and Robyne Siliga swept the SoCon s player of the week awards on March 10. Siliga batted.438 (7-of-16) during the week as the Eagles went 3-3. The Oceanside, Calif., native was perfect from the plate in the week s opener against Presbyterian with a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored. Siliga also fi nished the week with a four-hit game against Bowling Green as her three RBI helped GSU to a 7-0 win at the War Eagle Classic in Auburn, Ala. Laliberte earned her second consecutive pitcher of the week nod by tossing two complete-game shutouts a two-hitter against Presbyterian (3-0) and a four-hitter against Bowling Green (7-0). For the week, Laliberte was 2-1 with a 0.64 ERA after allowing just two earned runs in 22 innings in the circle. Laliberte received player of the week laurels for the sixth time in her career. Siliga got the honor for the fi rst time. LALIBERTE EARNS SoCON AWARD Senior Melissa Laliberte was named the league s player of the week on March 3. Laliberte was nearly unhittable in the circle, earning a 3-0 record in three outings without giving up a run. She pitched three hitless innings in an 8-0 win over Grambling on Friday before allowing just four hits in nine innings over the next two games against Birmingham-Southern (3-0) and Samford (8-0). The Cobourg, Ontario native led a GSU pitching staff that hurled a schoolrecord fi ve straight shutouts while capturing the Magic City Classic championship in dominating fashion. SOCON SUCCESSES Since head coach Natalie Poole took over at the start of the 2002 season, Georgia Southern has a record against league competition for a.573 winning percentage... The Eagles posted a school-record 15 SoCon wins in her fi rst season... In 2006 GSU went 12-9 in the regular season and won the SoCon.: 2007 Georgia Southern Softball Game Notes - Page 2 :. Tournament to get an NCAA Regional berth... Poole experienced her fi rst sub-.500 league season in EAGLES PICKED SECOND, THREE NAMED TO PRESEASON TEAM The league s eight head coaches selected GSU to fi nish second and voted three players to the preseason all-socon team. The Eagles were tied for second with the College of Charleston. Defending champion Chattanooga was fi rst, garnering six fi rst-place votes. Sophomore Lindsey Hopkins (McDonough, Ga.) was selected to the fi rst team and sophomores Sam Russo (Snellville, Ga.) and Jenny Side (Loganville, Ga.) were named to the second team. Hopkins led the team last season with a.272 average, 35 runs, 55 hits and 18 stolen bases. Her stolen base total ranked seventh in the SoCon. Side started all 61 games as a freshman and paced the team in home runs (9), runs batted in (27) and slugging percentage (.434). Her nine homers are tied for second at Georgia Southern in a single season. She was also named to the SoCon All-Tournament Team. Russo joined Side on the all-tournament team after she tied for the team lead with a.375 average and six RBI. Russo started 46 times and recorded three home runs and 16 RBI. GSU PITCHERS THROW UP ZEROS Eagle pitchers showed their best stuff in late February and early March when they put together a school-record six straight shutouts... The group blanked all fi ve opponents at the Magic City Classic and held Presbyterian scoreless in the fi rst game of a doubleheader... All told the stretch covered 48 innings... Melissa Laliberte tossed 19 of those innings with two shutouts while combining for two more, while Megen Smith added 14 innings of scoreless ball. WE RE GOING STREAKING! The team s fi ve straight shutouts were part of a seven-game winning streak, the longest by the program since GSU went 5-0 at the Magic City Classic and swept a doubleheader from Presbyterian. GEORGIA SOUTHERN S LAST GAME Georgia Southern 11, Furman 2 Sunday, March 23, 2008 GREENVILLE, S.C. --- Georgia Southern pounded out 12 hits and junior Robyne Siliga (Oceanside, Calif.) had four RBI to give the Eagles an 11-2 win in six innings over Furman Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. GSU claims the three-game Southern Conference series 2-1 after a split Friday. The Eagles improve to while the Paladins drop to We knew we were going to have to come out today and fi ght because we knew Furman was not going to go down quietly, said GSU head coach Natalie Poole. We came out ready today. Siliga went 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Three of her four RBI came on a three-run homer in the fourth. As we go on and make adjustments I think that she is someone that we can count on, said Poole. Even if she doesn t get hits early, she ll continue to swing away and fi nd a way to make it happen. Sophomore Nina Iduate (Norcross, Ga.) went 3-for-4 at the plate for her fi rst three-hit performance in over a month. Sophomore Jenny Side (Loganville, Ga.) recorded two hits and sophomore Kristan Glover (Evans, Ga.) hit a two-run double. Furman s Lana Mackey, who shut Georgia Southern out on one hit yesterday, allowed six earned runs (eight total) on eight hits in 3.1 innings. I felt like she got in our heads yesterday, said Poole. Today we came out with a clear head with a new opportunity and we just didn t carry those at bats to the plate today. We were able to capitalize on some pitches and get some good solid hits. Glover (2-5) earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings. The Eagles broke open a 2-1 game with six runs in the fourth, helped along by two Furman errors. Siliga had the big hit, her eighth round-tripper of the season, and junior Michelle Beasley (Metter, Ga.) added a RBI single.

Since her appointment in June, 2001, Natalie Poole has established Georgia Southern as one of the top and most consistent programs in the Southern Conference. The Baton Rouge, La. native has had just one losing conference season and has fi nished outside the top four only once. She led the Eagles to second place in the SoCon standings in her fi rst season and three straight third-place fi nishes from Poole s infl uence on the program can be seen in the school s record book. The annals are littered with players recruited by Poole, with 11 career and 12 single-season leaders arriving on campus since Her teams currently hold 15 of Georgia Southern s single-season records. The top fi ve home run seasons of all-time have come under Poole s watch. She has coached the 2006 SoCon Player of the Year (Shanita Black) and three SoCon Freshmen of the Year (Crystal Crews, 2002; Maria Laurato, 2004; and Robyne Siliga, 2005). Crews was named all-conference at two positions (designated player and pitcher) and was an All- Southeast Region selection, the fi rst by a GSU player in school history. Seventeen times Poole has had a player earn allconference honors, including a school-record fi ve in 2006, and 10 times had a player tabbed to the all-tournament team. The 2006 season was one to remember as Poole guided Georgia Southern to its fi rst-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the SoCon Tournament with six straight wins. The SoCon title was just the second in the school s history. Poole rallied the team from a 1-7 start to post a overall record. The 35 wins are second-most in school history. The Eagles received several record-breaking performances under her guidance in 2006, specifi cally Black, who was named the league s Player of the Year, as well as the Tournament s Most Outstanding Player and All- Southeast Region. Black broke 12 school records by herself and was part of an offense that set six more as a team including batting average (.277), slugging percentage (.393), runs (274), hits (508), home runs (38) and walks (182). The pitching staff held their own and fi nished the season second in earned run average at 2.72, fi rst in batting average against (.229) and tied for fi rst in shutouts (12), led by Melissa Laliberte s school-record eight. The tournament run was remarkable seeing that GSU became the fi rst team to lose its fi rst game and come back to win the tournament. The Eagles were just the second school to win three games on the fi nal day. Georgia Southern came close to repeating that magic in 2007 in what was almost was a carbon copy of the year prior. The Eagles dropped their fi rst game before reeling off fi ve straight wins and pushed Furman to a deciding championship game. But a return trip to the NCAA Tournament was not in the cards as the Paladins rallied in extra innings to win 4-3. Her 2007 team was the best fi elding team in history posting a.971 fi elding percentage, besting the previous record by nine percentage points. All-Conference pitcher Laliberte led a staff that topped the league in batting average against. The 2005 schedule featured games against fi ve ranked opponents, including Alabama, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Tennessee and Georgia, each of whom advanced to the NCAA Regionals. The Eagles split a doubleheader with Florida State, ranked 10th in the nation. Her 2005 team set several school records, most notably the new home run record of 34, besting the previous mark of 26 set in GSU also set new school highs in slugging percentage (.368) and tied the walk record of 144. Georgia Southern hasn t just excelled at the plate in Poole s tenure. In 2004 the Eagles led the Southern Conference with a 1.80 earned run average, fourth-best in the school record books, and posted 14 shutouts, equaling GSU s high mark set twice previously. Poole made an immediate impact on the program in her fi rst year, guiding the Eagles to a overall record, but more signifi cantly, a 15-6 mark in the Southern Conference, setting a new school record for league victories in a season. The 25 wins were also the most by a fi rst-year coach in school history. That season began with nine straight losses and a 5-18 record before turning it around and winning 18 of 24. A second-place fi nish in the SoCon earned her Coach of the Year honors. Poole became the third head coach in GSU fastpitch history when she was named to the position on June 7, 2001, ending a three-year stint as an assistant coach at McNeese State (La.) University. Poole starred for the Cowgirls softball team from Poole joined the NcNeese State softball staff as a graduate assistant in 1998 and moved into the assistant coach s role the very next year. Prior to her time at her alma mater, Poole assisted the under-18 Baton Rouge Bandits summer team from She then spent a year as the head coach for the under-18 Lake Charles Gamblers and in 1998, assumed the duties as assistant softball coach at Barbe (La.) High School. In her playing days, Poole was the starting catcher for the Cowgirls all four years. She was a three-time member of the All-Southland Conference team ( ), a twotime All-South Region honoree ( ) and earned All- Louisiana laurels in As a freshman, she helped the Cowgirls to a Southland Conference title as well as the school s fi rst-ever South Region appearance. In 1997 she recorded the team s highest batting average of.331 while registering fi ve home runs and 10 doubles. Her successful senior campaign led her being named McNeese State s Most Valuable Player. Poole closed out her career with a.296 batting average. Accomplishing as much in the classroom as she did on the fi eld, Poole was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All- District VI selection ( ) and was a 1997 Academic All-American.
