2 MESSAGE TO COACHES Dear Coach, From myself and the Baseball Manitoba Coaches Committee, thank you for your dedication to amateur sport. Coaches, such as yourself, are crucial to the success of our sport. Our Coaches Committee is made up of individuals, just like you, who have dedicated their time to the development of young baseball players in Manitoba. This committee is instrumental in making decisions that impact all coaches in our sport. They are the driving force behind The Rundown, coach requirements and the new look of the Coaches section on the Baseball Manitoba website. The time and energy that is required to operate a baseball team effectively is not underestimated. Coaches play an important role in the life of young athletes. You are at the helm of baseball skill development, overall enjoyment and ensuring success for each player on your team. These young people are the future of baseball in Manitoba and your impact on them will set their course for years to come. Just as you have made a commitment to your players, Baseball Manitoba is committed to helping you along the way this season. Through our Coaches Convention, Coaches Association and the delivery of NCCP clinics, we pride ourselves in giving every coach the opportunity to build upon their knowledge and succeed with their team and its players. We hope that you will find this document useful now and throughout the season. There are many other great resources available to you through Baseball Canada s coach s webpage There are clinics to complete and attend, videos to watch and drills to learn. We hope that you and your players will create a memorable baseball experience in Sincerely, Faron Asham Vice President, Coach Development 2018 Roster In 2018 no paper rosters will be distributed or accepted by Baseball Manitoba. 3 LONG-TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT Better athletes, Better BaseBall players What is LTAD? Human development from birth to adulthood is a continuous process. To understand the process better, experts divide human development into distinct stages with specific characteristics; these are called stages of development. In Canada, sport and recreational research has identified seven stages of development, each with its own physical, mental, emotional and cognitive characteristics. This is our Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, and it s the basis for the optimal training and competition kids need to enjoy sport the most and perform their best. Why do we need the LTAD model? Because participation in recreational sport and physical activity has been declining and physical education programs in schools are being marginalized. Because NOT matching skills and activities to a stage of development has serious negative consequences, and Canadians and the Canadian sport system have been suffering from them for some time. To mention just a few of them: Children don t have fun; They develop bad habits because of the over-emphasis on winning; Their skill development is poor; They don t reach their optimal performance level; Many burn out and drop out of sport. For more information on Long Term Athlete Development go to Goldeyes Coach Symposium Saturday, May 26 Day to Include: NCCP (Initiation) Clinic Lunch with Andrew Collier guest speaker Derek McLennan - Strength and Conditioning Tom Vaeth - Game Day Preperation Observe Batting Practice Box seats for the Goldeyes game BASEBALL MANITOBA 50 th Anniversary Amateur Baseball Day Saturday, June 9, will be Amateur Baseball Day in Manitoba. On this date we ask all leagues to hold their Rally Cap and Grand Slam Jamboree s, and any tournaments, so we create a unified presence across the province to help promote baseball. Baseball Manitoba Day Monday, May 28-7:00 p.m. vs Lincoln Saltdogs Goldeyes to wear Baseball Manitoba uniforms As members of Baseball Manitoba, amateur teams are invited to help us celebrate our 50th Anniversary and another summer of exciting Goldeyes baseball.
