2 I don t know about you guys But it s Monday night as I write this, and I m still feeling a little hungover from the Mid-Season Party (getting old). What a great time at Saddle Ridge with the VA Peninsula division. People were drinking, laughing, and hanging out. This is what it s all about. For everyone who came out, thank you. And for those who couldn t make it, we missed you and hope you all make it out to the End of Season Party (). If anyone has any feedback about the MSP and what you d like to see in future parties, please let me know. (And Melissa, I already know you re feedback. You want to go to a place that won t kick you out. Haha.) Last Week at Tabb Middle School After this week, we will be moving over to the York County Sports Complex (4311 George Washington Hwy, Yorktown) at Soccer Field #5. Canned Food Drive Don t forget to support our charity this season, which is the Food Bank. Britney Travis, from the 5 O Clockers, will collect all canned food donations at the field for the entire season. The team that collects the most cans for the season will earn some free pitchers at Sandbar on the last day of the regular season!

6 Week 6 Recaps Just For Kicks 7, Rumspringa 0 Recap by Bryan Freed, JFK There are several teams that have improved greatly since the beginning of this season. Rumspringa is definitely one of them. After a good showing against the Emperors Club they looked for the same against the Just For Kicks crew. Rumspringa got that good showing and more. With solid team work they were able to hold the high scoring JFK team to seven runs. On the other hand the JFK defense held tough and recorded the shutout. Later that night at the Sandbar there were several compliments from both JFK and other teams toward the play of Rumspringa. Get the drinks ready. With play like this Rumspringa will move put one in the W column very soon! Foul Balls 10, The Burn 0 Foul Balls are back! After struggling for most of this season, you can really see signs of life. Their offense exploded for 10 runs against a very athletic Burn squad.

7 TailGators 2, Chubby Gangsters 1 All of the scoring in this game took place in the 1 st inning with the Gators putting up 2 to match the Gang-bangers 1. After that, both teams played bend but don t break defense, as there were several base runners that were stranded on both sides (with the exception of a three pitch inning that the CGs had on offense). The Gangsters looked like they were in a position to tie the game, however they couldn t quite plate the runs needed. Great win for the Gators, and they definitely celebrated hard at Sandbar that night.

8 The Emperors Club 14, Balls & Dolls 0 The VIPs looked very sharp and well rested coming off the rain week against Balls & Dolls. On offense, they came out swinging, scoring 6 runs in the first inning before B&D recorded a single out. On defense, The Emperors Club smothered Balls & Dolls and allowed very few base runners. C Matt Martin stood out both sides of the ball, getting to several pop ups and firing lasers to first base to gun runners out. At the plate, he was perfect including a solo home run in the 3 rd inning. Afterwards, B&D captain Dustin Brown said, I guess we aren t under the radar now. Just For Kicks 2, 5 O Clockers 0 Recap by Bryan Freed, JFK Ticket sales were high for this game and as expected it was worth the price of admission, even though it was free. Both teams knew they need to play their best. Some of the JFK players have played on other teams that have faced the 5OC in previous seasons and all of these games were very close with 5OC playing very tough defense. This game was no exception. With great pitching from JFKs Jimmy Wilcox and JC Cashwell, very few 5OCs were able to make it on base. JFK has only allowed 7 runs against them so far this season and it took a concerted team effort to keep the 5 OC runners from advancing one they did get on base. Prior to the game the JFK players were told about the speed of the 5OCs. Pitching and team defense was also the key for the 5OC strategy. Great pitching from 5OC Corey Carlyle and two great plays at home plate by catcher Adam Flowers kept the score low and both teams were in the game until the final out. The last out was made by JFK outfielder Bryant Wheels Bethea with an incredible running / diving catch of a foul ball to end a very close game.

9 Jagernauts 1, Foul Balls 0 Recap by Justin Littell, Jagernauts Contrasting the recent weeks of their dominance on offense, the Jagernauts most recent game vs. the Foul Balls quickly turned into a pitcher s duel and defensive clinic. The Jagernaut defense, led by starting charger (who was on his lunch break from work, talk about dedication) John Meier, pitcher Eddie Seavers, catcher Kevin Gitkos and first basemen Dan Moore, put on a clinic with their defensive skill. (Actually Justin Arrington contributed to the defense also; he was picking daisies in the outfield, keeping the grass clean) Combined, they held the Foul Balls to zero runs. All was in line and the Jagernauts were cruising when a slight scare came in the third as the Foul Balls loaded the bases with one out. The defense held under the pressure when a force out at first and a caught fly ball by Dan Moore ended the inning. Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth; The Jagernauts leadoff kicker, John Meier quickly kicked a bunt single. Liz Sims, kicking next, fooled FB's catcher Roger Jackson by kicking a perfect "stop bunt" (yeah so I just made that move up) in which the ball stopped one foot in front of the plate. Roger, who was literally halfway to left field at the time had to turn around and field the ball, during which Liz beat out the throw. Mike Ramey was intentionally walked, which was retribution for the intentional walk given to the FB's in the 4th. The next play, however, had all the makings of a classic...bottom of the fifth, bases loaded, game on the line, Tom Janule in the house, under the lights when Eddie Seavers, the Jagernauts second cleanup kicker, came to the plate. Move over Reggie Jackson, Eddie Seavers is quickly becoming Mr. May after kicking a fly ball to deep center field, getting the clutch sacrifice kick to score John as the only (and winning) run. The Jagers quickly stormed the Sandbar afterward and celebrated their shutout victory.

10 MVP of the week goes to Mr. May for his impressive behind the plate and behind the mound. Said Eddie after the game "Yeah, I was just hoping to foul a couple balls while waiting to get my pitch. Fortunately, my pitch came on the first throw!" Honorable mention goes to Katie G. for taking a ball to the face while trying to get back to second base after an overrun. Katie was quoted on the play "Thanks for hitting me in the F**king face!" After getting a clean bill of health from team nurse Dottie Wood, Katie is cleared to play next week. Oh and I think Liz got run over while trying to make a play at third base (again). Liz is setting the record in the Peninsula division for hit fielders this season. I believe this makes three. Is there an award for that? The Jagers look to make it a perfect May when they face Balls and Dolls next week. Can the Cinderella season continue? Jagernaut GM Justin L s final note: ever since the kicking stats on the Jagernaut lineup have been compiled, the team kicking average has been steadily rising and is currently with an OPS of And for those of you that think I am making those numbers up, I have a slew of Excel spreadsheets that say otherwise. 18 Week 7 Preview Balls & Dolls (3-3-1) vs. Jagernauts (4-0-2) Balls & Dolls will be looking to bounce back after their worst loss of the season. It ll be an uphill battle against the undefeated Jagernauts. B&D does have some athletes, and can hang with anyone. Experience kills though, and the Jagers keep finding ways to pull out close games. Just For Kicks (7-0) vs. The Emperors Club (5-0-1) This is the game of the week as these two undefeated squads face each other. JFK boasts the division s best defense, lead by P JC Cashwell, P Jimmy Wilcox, Ch Joey Smith, and C Eric Stevens, holding opponents to 1 run per game on average. They ll have their hands full with the high powered VIP offense, who lead the division in runs scored per game (9.33 rpg). Dr. Jeremy Pinier has been unstoppable at the leadoff position and the big legs of Dave Dixon, Matt Martin, and Patrick Jones have been racking up RKIs The difference in this game may be whichever team blinks first and makes the first mistake. This very possibly could be a preview of the finals. Chubby Gangsters (2-4) vs. Foul Balls (2-5) After struggling earlier in the season, Foul Balls are starting to look like the team that has made 2 championship games in the past. They re injured players are starting to get healthy and their rookies are starting to get the experience needed to win games (learning small things like bunting doesn t actually make you less of a man) The Chubby Gangsters on the other hand started off the season hot, but have fallen into a little funk lately, losing their last 3 games, but they ve all been close. This game will probably be a tight one. Can the Gangbangers figure out a way to pull out a clutch W?

19 Rumspringa (0-6-1) vs. TailGators (3-4) In a way Rumspringa has been a victim of the schedule. They started out the season playing all of the inexperienced team when they had no idea what they were doing and they lost. But they kept practicing, maintained a positive attitude, and have improved greatly just in time to hit a stretch of games against the top teams in the division (Jagers, VIPs, JFK). They re still searching for their first franchise victory this week as they square off against the veteran TailGators. Last week, the Gators victory tied their franchise record for wins in a season. No doubt the Spring 2010 team will want to break the record this week. The Burn (1-6) vs. The Emperors Club (5-0-1) Last week at Sandbar, The Burn s Glendon Cronkrite teamed up with VIP Brent Wentworth (3 rd person alert!) to tear the house down with a cover of Miley Cyrus Party In The USA. This week however, they will be facing each other on the field. The Burn is coming off a tough loss to Foul Balls, while The Emperors Club cruised to an easy victory against B&D. On paper, this looks like it will be a blowout, however, they don t play kickball on paper. This one could be close, especially if the VIPs take The Burn lightly and focus all of their attention on the big 6:30 matchup with JFK.

20 Chubby Gangsters (2-4) vs. 5 O Clockers (3-2-1) The 5 O Clockers are like a heel wrestler in the WWE. They talk a lot of trash, play with a hard edge, don t hang out with the rest of the division at the bar, and people generally like to see them lose. They even wear all black. Seriously, if they start bringing steel chairs to the fields, watch out. Pretty sure if Ted Dibiase played kickball, he d be a member of the 5 O Clockers Weather Outlook
