2 Tips and extras on site People no longer expect to be tipped as a matter of course, but hardworking and courteous staff are pleased if you round up the bill. On the menu of most restaurants the cover bill is listed at the bottom: it can be 10-15% of the bill, whereas in pizzerias it amounts to a couple of Euros. No tip is then expected. Local taxes Some cities charge a tourist tax. These taxes are not included in the sale price of the tour and must be paid directly by you at check-in or check-out at the hotels. This fee varies depending on the hotel category, on the season and the number of days of stay. It is usually between 1 and 4 per person per night. At the beginning of 2017 the following local taxes (per person per night) were valid, but during the season some variations may occur: Vicenza: ; Bassano: 3/4* hotels 1 ; Treviso: 3* hotels 1.60, 4* hotels 1.80 ; Mestre: 3* hotels 2.40, 4* hotels 3.10 ; Venice: 3* hotels 3.50, 4* hotels 4.50 ; Chioggia: 3* hotels 0,80, 4* hotels 1 ; Padua: 3* hotels 2, 4* hotels 3. ITINERARY Introduction Cycling this sophisticated corner of Italy is a real pleasure: admire the elegant villas of the Venetian nobility, scattered in the whole region... discover Vicenza, architect Palladio s personal showcase and part of the World Heritage List since taste a typical grappa in Bassano, famous also for its covered wooden bridge... cycle through the Prosecco vineyards between Asolo and Treviso... explore the timeless fascination of Venice by foot and by water... take a walk in the charming Chioggia, affectionately known as Little Venice... discover the city centre of Padua, home to one of the oldest Italian (and European) universities. This tour belongs to the European classics, curling between the Alps and the Adriatic sea. Day by day 1. Vicenza Individual arrival. A nice and cosy historical city centre characterised by the buildings of the famous architect Andrea Palladio (16th century). 2. Vicenza Bassano del Grappa (40 km) From Vicenza you cycle towards Marostica, famous for its castle and the chessboard in the main square. The last stop is Bassano del Grappa with its covered wooden bridge and the famous grappa. 3. Bassano del Grappa Treviso (65/40 km) You enter Asolo, which represents the only real uphill section of our ride. The downhill run takes you to the land of Prosecco vineyards and on Maser, until you reach Treviso. 4. Treviso Mestre/Venice (45 km) Leaving Treviso behind you, follow the course of the River Sile up to Casale. At the end of the trip Venice awaits you for an evening among canals and narrow streets. Accommodation is in Mestre, Venice mainland. 5. Mestre/Venice Chioggia (35 km) Leaving Mestre this morning, you head into Venice pedalling on the 4 km bridge della Libertà, then to Tronchetto harbour. From here you take a ferry along the canal Giudecca to Lido. This is the most exciting day, pedalling on the two narrow islands that divide the sea from the lagoon: the island of Lido, with the ancient hamlet of Malamocco, once capital of the Serenissima Republic, and the island of Pellestrina, with its long wild beaches. 6. Chioggia Padua (60 km) You will be pedalling along the two rivers that carried trade in and out of Venice in this area centuries ago: Bacchiglione and Brenta. You continue on to Strà, famous for the majestic Villa Pisani. On arrival in Padua, you will find the great basilica dedicated to St. Anthony, the Last updated on 14/03/2017 _ valid until October 2017 page 2 / 11

3 historic Caffè Pedrocchi and Prato della Valle. 7. Padua Vicenza (50 km) The Bacchiglione River points the way out of the the city and you reach Costozza, a little town at the foot of the Berici hills. The bike path passes in front of Villa Rotonda, the most famous of the Palladian villas. Just before entering Vicenza you see the Villa Valmarana ai Nani with its marvellous frescoes by Tiepolo. 8. Vicenza Departure after breakfast. Tour programme variations Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday. Along the way you may find temporary deviations (for example road works) which cannot be foreseen; any changes to the route will be discussed and decided by the Tour Leader. ROUTE PROFILE Route profile Total length: 270/295 km Total vertical up: 530 m Terrain: 85% tarmac, 15% unpaved Train connection among the overnight stays: every day Possibility to shorten the itinerary by taking the train: day 3. The itinerary is completely in the low-lands except for the 1 km slope in Asolo. You ride on secondary streets with low traffic or paved bike paths. Brief itinerary: Day 2: Vicenza-Bassano del Grappa (40 km, vertical up 100m) Watch out for the traffic when you cross the provincial road 111 and when you follow the provincial road 248 on a short stretch. There are a few hundred metres on dirt roads before and beyond Marostica. Day 3: Bassano del Grappa-Treviso: (65 km, vertical up up 300m) The degree of difficulty is medium because of the hard 1.5 km slope uphill to reach Asolo and because of the total length. The cycle track that runs at the foot of the Montello is sometimes unpaved but in very good condition. Watch out for the traffic along the final part of the stage, between the village of Ponzano Veneto and Treviso. Possibility to shorten the stage of 25 km by taking the train from Montebelluna to Treviso (with one change in Castelfranco Veneto). Day 4: Treviso-Mestre (45 km, vertical up 0 m) Today you ll ride mainly on the cycle path along the Sile river (75% of the whole stage), partially on unpaved surface. Day 5: Mestre/Venice-Chioggia (35 km, vertical up 0 m) Today s stage is divided into two parts. The first part is from Mestre to Tronchetto Island from where by ferry-boat you will sail towards Lido Island along the Giudecca Canal and you can admire Venice and its famous Piazza San Marco. In Venice, city of canals and bridges, for obvious reasons it is forbidden to cycle. We remind you to use the train if you want to reach Venice from Mestre. The second part goes from Lido San Niccolò to Chioggia, and here you will find numerous beaches. Navigation (24h ACTV ticket included only for Cat. A/A+, bike not included): - about 35 minutes by ferry-boat from Tronchetto to Lido S.Niccolò; - about 10 minutes by ferry-boat from Alberoni to S. Maria del Mare; - about 25 minutes by motorboat from Pellestrina to Chioggia. Day 6: Chioggia-Padua (60 km, vertical up 0 m) The degree of difficulty is medium because of the total length of the stage. You will cycle in total about 7 km on dirt roads along the embankment of the rivers and canals. Watch out for the traffic when you leave Chioggia, when you have to cycle on a short stretch along the road Romea. Day 7: Padua-Vicenza (50 km, vertical up 130 m) Last updated on 14/03/2017 _ valid until October 2017 page 3 / 11

4 The stage is not difficult. The few and short stretches on a dirt road are all in very good condition and the arrival in Vicenza is almost all the time on cycle tracks. Activity level Easy cycling in mostly flat areas, with only few short climbs and descents. Little effort required, suitable for most people. How to shorten the stages In Italy there is a good train service offering bicycle transport. This low-cost option will allow you to reach the next city in case of rain or bad weather, or if you prefer to visit a city at your own pace instead of cycling. Trains with bicycle compartments are usually regional trains and are indicated with a bicycle symbol on the carriage and also on the timetables on display in the station. The cost of the ticket for a passenger varies according to the distance covered, whereas for the bike it is always 3.50 (valid for 24 hours on the entire Italian network). Tickets can be bought directly at the railway station or at a Tabacchi shop. We remind you that in Italy it is compulsory to validate the ticket before getting on the train. For further information on timetables and prices you can consult All the towns of this tour are connected with the train. If one day you don t want to cycle, you can skip the stage by taking the train. Please note that not every stage is served by a direct train connection but it could sometimes be necessary to change train. If you want to shorten the itinerary by taking the train, you can do it only on day 3: Day 3: Bassano Treviso You can shorten the stage by 25 km from Montebelluna to Treviso with a change in Castelfranco Veneto ( ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS Accommodation We personally choose all the hotels mindful of your comfort as well as the proximity to cycling paths and any relevant local sites.
