2 Sunday 14 October noon to 4pm Salon International, ExCel London BRITAIN S BEST is a national floor competiton, open to NHF members and nonmembers, and will be in its 7th year in Britain s Best has 5 categories, where students, trainees and qualified stylists or barbers take to the floor to compete, create and perfect their style. BRITAIN S BEST will be held at Salon International at ExCel London. Entry into competitions includes free entry into Salon International. 4 Competition Rules COMPETITION FLOOR 1. Interpretation of the rules of each competition lies with the committee, whose decision is final. 2. The organisers reserve the right to refuse or cancel an entry or a competition with 3 or less entries. 3. The electrical supply is available through the use of 240 volt rated 3-pin plug. Only one appliance may be connected at any time. No multi or European adaptors to be used. The organisers will check all electrical equipment. Equipment deemed to be faulty by the site electrician will not be allowed onto the competition floor. 4. Mirrors will be provided. 5. Competitors will be allocated a table number at the time of registration. 6. Mannequins may NOT be used. 7. Salon names are not to be featured or advertised. 8. Infringements of competition rules will be penalised by the competition officers. 9. Only finished models may be brought to the stage for presentation of awards. 10. Completed work may be displayed on the internet or used in printed material. Copyright of all images placed on the internet will be in the name of the National Hairdressers Federation. Competitors must ensure that models are aware of and consent to their image being shown on the internet and within printed materials. 11. Due care and attention must be taken when applying any products and accessories. 12. Models must be aged 16 or over. 13. Models and competitors under 18 must complete and sign a consent form. 14. Models are not allowed to help the competitor with the styling of the hair. 15. Models can be standing or seated for judging although they may be asked to be seated by some judges. 16. No entry to the competition floor before 12 noon. 17. Closing date for entries is Friday 28 September. JUDGES BRIEF FOR HAIRDRESSING COMPETITIONS 1. Total look 2. No grips or visible pins in the finished look 3. Abilities while producing the style 4. Harmonising tones and colours 5. Healthy looking hair 6. Models posture

5 Floor COMPETITION RULES COMP NO.1 MALE FASHION LOOK CUT AND FINISH Start 12 noon Time Allowed 30 mins 1. To produce a consumer fashion look (cut and finish). 2. Models hair can be wet and must be brushed back off the models face before the start of the competition. 3. All cutting equipment may be used. 4. Any styling products and equipment may be used. 5. Hair must be cut and finished on the competition floor. 6. A minimum of 1cm must be removed from all parts of the head. COMP NO.2 FEMALE FASHION LOOK CUT AND FINISH Start 12.50pm Time Allowed 30 mins 1. To produce a consumer fashion look (cut and finish). 2. Models hair can be wet and must be brushed back off the models face before the start of the competition. 3. All cutting equipment may be used. 4. Any styling products and equipment may be used. 5. Hair must be cut and finished on the competition floor. 6. A minimum of 1cm must be removed from all parts of the head. COMP NO.3 HAIR-UP (FORMAL, CASUAL OR BRIDE) Start 1.40pm Time Allowed 30 mins 1. To produce a hair-up look of your choice. 2. Hair to be brushed through and back off the model s face before the start of the competition. 3. All hair pieces must be brushed through and presented on the table for scrutineers to see. 4. Any styling products and equipment may be used. 5. Clothing to complement finished hair-up style. COMP NO.4 TOTAL LOOK Start 2.40pm Time Allowed 5 mins Model can be male or female. Finished model to be brought to the competition floor. Clothing to compliment the finished hairstyle. You will have 5 minutes to carry out finishing touches to your model before judging starts. 5. Judges will be looking for the total look.

6 COMP NO.5 FANTASY Start 3.10pm Time Allowed 5 mins 1. Anything goes. Fantasy style of your choice 2. Finished model to be brought to the competition floor. 3. Models must be either seated or standing on the floor for judging. 4. Models must not be standing on chairs, boxes, etc for health and safety reasons. 5. Competitors must bring their own equipment. 6. Judges will be looking for the total look. A prep-room will be made available. Please ensure you are ready to take your model on to the competition floor at 3.05pm sharp. COMPETITION RESULTS START 3.40pm DECLARATION All concerned with the competitions, including the competitors, must accept full responsibility for Heath, Safety and Welfare of everyone who may be affected by their actions. It is particularly important that competitors who intend to use colour, conduct a sensitivity test on their models at least 48 hours prior to the colour being applied and following manufacturer s instructions. I have read, understood and agree to be bound by the competition rules and acknowledge that finished work may be displayed on the internet, and I consent to this. I also agree that copyright will be in the name of the National Hairdressers Federation. I further authorise and agree that my name, the name of my salon/college may be attributed to this work.
