It is very important that you sit down with your parents and read through everything that is expected of you carefully. 2 Expectations for Athletes: Complete tryout packet Attend all mandatory days of tryouts March 13-14, 4:30 6:00 p.m. and March 15 th 5:00 8:00 p.m. (time slot will be handed out) Attend mandatory sideline halftime choreography camp Last week of July 2018 Maintain a positive attitude and be a team player. Respect team members, coaches, and each other. We are one team! Attend and participant in all scheduled Jr. Cougar and CHS cheer events. Be committed! The entire squad suffers when someone is absent Cheer ALL games and practices regardless of HOLIDAYS or breaks listed on the school calendar Be on time for all games, activities and stay the duration. Arrive in designated practice/game wear. Maintain high academic and moral standards You represent the JR. Cougar Cheer program. It is imperative that positive behavior be on display at all times, including how you present yourself at games (home and away), practices, and school and on social media. NO GOSSIPING IS ALLOWED! SOCIAL MEDIA INCLUDED! NO BULLYING IS TOLERATED! SOCIAL MEDIA INCLUDED! Expectations of Parents: Cheerleading is an expensive sport. You are responsible for all sideline and competition team (if your child is on the team) fees by the due dates. Review the entire information packet with your athlete and be sure they understand unacceptable and behaviors and consequences. Provide transportation to various events required by the team at the requested time. Support your athlete and the team by attending footballs and competitions. All parents are required to volunteer (we could not run this program without the numerous amount of volunteers hours that are provided; this should be shared equally by all). All parents and cheerleaders are required to participate in all fundraisers. Support the decisions made by the coach even when it does not fall in favor of your specific athlete. Practices are closed to all individuals with the exceptions of the team, coaches, team reps, President and Vice President of the Jr. Cougar Cheer Board. Parents are not to approach a coach during practices or on game day. Any coaching issues are to be discussed with your grade level team representative or a Jr. Cougar Board Member first. Coaches, Jr. Couches and Team Reps are the only persons allowed on the sidelines during football games and events. NO GOSSIPING ALLOWED! Disciplinary actions will take place, along with child s dismissal from team. NO SLANDERING ON SOCIAL MEDIA! 3 Jr. Cougar Cheer Eligibility & Registration Checklist Cheerleader Name Grade (Fall 2018) Phone To be eligible to cheer with the Jr. Cougar Cheer (Sideline & Competition) program, all cheerleaders and their parents/guardians MUST agree to and provide the items listed below to the Jr. Cougar Cheer Board Member. I will print, sign and turn in forms as indicated. In addition, the following items must be acknowledged: All Jr. Cougar 6th through 8th Grade Cheerleaders MUST reside in the Chattahoochee High School District to cheer in this program. I acknowledge that said cheerleader meets the above high school district requirement. Refund Policy for Jr. Cougar Cheer I understand if I withdraw my child from the program, I must submit a withdrawal request to the Jr. Cougar Treasurer (snbergeon@gmail.com) on or before the following dates listed in the withdrawal fee schedule below. I understand Jr. Cougar Cheer is not responsible for misdirected or other forms of mailing. No verbal withdrawals from Jr. Cougar Cheer will be accepted. I understand fees are issued within two weeks of notice of withdrawal. There is no such thing as a Full Refund. Considerable funds are expended to run the program prior to the start of the season. The following administrative fees will be deducted from my original payment prior to refund being issued for Sideline cheer. o $75.00 from date of registration through May 31st all grades o $ from June 1st through July 30th 3rd 5th grade o o $ from June 1st through July 30th 6th 8th grade No Refund issued on or after August 1st No refund issued if verification from the Department of Education indicates that you are not in the Chattahoochee School District and/or if you fail otherwise to provide documentation to support eligibility Page 3

I have read/acknowledged the Jr. Cougar Cheer Refund Policy. Program Media Policy I give permission for Jr. Cougar Cheer to take and use my child s photo in published articles, website, newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures and presentation materials now or hereafter without any expectation of compensation. I waive any rights, claims, or interest I may have to control the use of my child s identity or likeness in whatever media used. I have read/acknowledged the Program Media Policy. Issues/Concerns Procedures: If a parent or member has a complaint, the first step is to discuss the problem with the appropriate grade level team coach. If this does not satisfy the parent s complaint, a meeting with the team coach, the parent and one of the board members shall be set. Failure to follow this may result in termination of your daughter from the program. Issues/Concerns Procedures. Fulton County ZERO Tolerance Policy Regarding Fan Behavior: Any negative cheering/yelling will result in a warning and/or removal from the site, whether it is for or against your team. Negative cheering shall be defined as cheering/yelling that is profane or derogatory in nature or in the opinion of the game officials, Tournament/League Director or his/her Designee, to be an unnecessary disruption to the game. No artificial noisemakers will be allowed in the bleachers, seats or standing area around the perimeter of the game/competition. Only Coaches, players, cheerleaders and trainers will be allowed on the sidelines. Fans are to remain in the bleachers. Parents may come to the sidelines upon an injury only. I have read/agreed to the written terms of the Fulton County ZERO Tolerance Policy regarding fan behavior. Each parent/guardian MUST agree to adhere to the policies of the Jr. Cougar Cheer Program. 5 Jr. Cougar Cheer Cheer Contract Cheerleader Name Grade (Fall 2018) Phone Commitment: Cheerleaders must commit to the program and its schedule. This is a full time sports commitment. Expect at least one practice per week and a game every Saturday until November, depending on playoff wins. Role Model: All cheerleaders must be good role models when representing the Jr. Cougar program. The Fulton County School Zero Tolerance Code of Conduct is to be adhered to accordingly. Attitude: Members of the Jr. Cougar cheer program must put the needs of their team and coach first at all practices and games. The team coach should be contacted if any problems arise with a teammate. Please respect your teammate s opinion, even if they differ from your own. You must not argue with a teammate in public. Cheerleaders must always display good sportsmanship, as Ambassadors for the Jr. Cougar Cheerleading Program and Chattahoochee High School. Bullying will not be tolerated and result in dismissal from cheer squad.. Schoolwork: Poor behavior or performance in school such as detention or suspension can result in disciplinary action or removal from the program. Appearance: No jewelry is permitted at any time; nail polish is not permitted while in uniform. Fingernails must be short with rounded edges. Cheerleaders dress uniformly as a squad and all must participate. Never wear pieces of your uniform to school. Coaches will determine when uniforms will be worn. Please reference the Attendance Policy & Disciplinary Action Form. Attendance and Tardiness Policy: Cheerleaders are expected to be on time to all practices, scheduled events, and games. Tardiness and unexcused absences will not be tolerated. In addition, all cheerleaders must report to games with the required uniform and equipment. Please reference the Attendance Policy & Disciplinary Action Form. NOTE: Any cheerleader who misses more than 6 quarters of game time due to disciplinary infractions will be automatically dismissed from the squad. In addition, you may be dismissed from the squad at any time for habitual rule infractions, such as excessive un-excused tardiness (more than 3), absences (more than 3), or discipline problems. All cheerleaders must be in good standing at the end of the season in order to be eligible to try out the following season. I understand that failure to meet these expectations will result in disciplinary action by the Jr. Cougar Cheer Program. 6 Attendance Policy & Disciplinary Action Absent from Tuesday or Wednesday (Stingray s Gym) Practice: Consequence: Cheerleader will not perform in upcoming half-time routine. Note: This applies even for excused absences as the routine must be finalized prior during the weekly practices for the Saturday game. Game-Day Tardiness: Consequence: Cheerleader will not cheer 1 st quarter of the game. Note: Tardiness is being late to the designated arrival time, NOT the start of the game Game-Day Absence: Consequence: For an unexcused absence, cheerleader will not cheer the first half of the following scheduled game. Incomplete Uniform to Game: Consequence: Reporting without the proper/designated uniform and equipment will result in the cheerleader sitting out until the missing items can be brought to her. (This includes hair bow, pom poms, shoes, cheer jacket, etc.) Disciplinary Action during Game: Consequence: 1 st Offense: Verbal Warning 2nd Offense: Sit on the sideline remainder of the quarter 3rd Offense: Sit on the sideline remainder of the game Note: Disciplinary actions during games include, but are not limited to: Talking during game/cheers, poor attitude, not listening, chewing gum/eating on sideline, cell phone use, poor behavior/disrespect to fellow cheerleaders, coaches and /or volunteers. Not Knowing Cheer(s) at Game: If a cheerleader does not confidently know a cheer, she will sit on the sideline during that specific cheer. Page 6

7 Excused Absence: Reason for Excused: Family emergency, religious event, or illness. Anything that does not fall into the 3 categories above, INCLUDING other sports, parties/celebrations, vacation etc., is an unexcused absence. Note: Scheduled Absences should be reported to your Team Manager/Parent so the team can make game day adjustments in advance. Repeated Warnings: During the mandatory season, should any cheerleader have repeated & frequent (more than 3) un-excused tardiness, absence or disciplinary action related to practice/games; she will be dismissed from the team. Complete Release from Liability: Cheerleading involves a variety of movements, motions, rotations, leaps, tumbling, jumps, partner stunts, and pyramids, therefore, participation in these athletic activities may result in personal injury. Our child has our full permission to engage in tumbling activities during football games and/or other events engaged in by the Jr. Cougar Cheerleading squads. I understand that no tumbling mats or other floor or ground coverings may be present during these events, and that such tumbling activities can result in serious injuries. I will not hold liable in any way or seek any damages from any sports team, cheerleading coaches, or any team parents associated with such events for injuries sustained by our child as a result of engaging in tumbling/cheering/stunting activities during such events. This is a complete release from all liability. I certify that my child has had a recent physical from her physician and is physically able to participate in the Jr. Cougar Cheer Program. 14 Junior Cougar Cheerleading Guidelines Section I. Tryout Eligibility Students must live in Chattahoochee High School district. All practices, camps, games and competitions will be in conjunction and accordance to the Fulton County Public School Calendar. Section II. Parent Meeting/Tryout Schedule A. Parent Meeting: Informational parent meeting March 5 th at CHS Media Center at 6:30pm B. Tryouts: March 13 th 15 th CHS (6 th - 8 th Grades Only) 1. Tryout clinic: Tryouts are closed to Parents AND Mandatory Tuesday & Wednesday, March 13 th -14 th at Chattahoochee High School 4:30pm 6:00pm Attire: Tryout shirt, Blue or black gym shorts, sports bra cheerleading/athletic shoes, no show white socks, hair pulled up in a high ponytail, white bow, no jewelry, nails clipped. 2. Tryouts: Tryouts are closed to Parents AND Mandatory Thursday, March 15 th at Chattahoochee High School 5:00pm 8:00pm Each cheerleader will receive a specific tryout time. Attire: Tryout shirt, Blue or black gym shorts, sports bra, cheerleading/athletic shoes, no shoe white socks, hair pulled up in a high ponytail, white bow, no jewelry, nails clipped. Each participant will be given a tryout time on the last day of clinic, arrive at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled tryout time. You must be on time! 3. Tryout Results: Results will be posted on the Jr. Cougar Cheerleading website after 6:00pm on Monday, March 19 th. 4. Uniform Fitting: A mandatory uniform, spirit wear and practice wear fitting will be held April 18th at the Hillbrooke Pavilion from 6:30-8:30pm A sign-up genius will be sent via for attending Work with the uniform coordinator in regards to the elementary uniform buyback program *Girls must wear sports bra and biker shorts under their clothes for fitting. *It is mandatory that parents attend fitting to ensure uniform fits properly and to pay require fees. Section III. Cheerleading Squad Descriptions and Selection The Junior Cougars Cheerleading program will be comprised of sideline squads and on competition squad The competition squad will be made up of 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade cheerleaders, 5 th grade cheerleaders may be considered. All Cheerleaders must cheer sideline in order to be considered for the competition team. It is mandatory that Sideline Cheerleaders cheer at all football games; they will practice one day per week during the football season. Competition cheerleaders will participate in 3-4 competitions on Saturdays or Sundays during the football season. They will practice 2 days per week. Tumbling skills are required and must be maintained. Page 14

15 Section IV. Junior Cougar Cheerleading 2018 Schedule Attendance is mandatory! A. Camp Schedule: All sideline and competition cheerleaders are required to attend cheerleading camps. CHS Mini Camp: Week of June 18th 22nd Elementary and Middle School attend - Attendance is mandatory! Camp fees are covered by Jr. Cougar registration. Sideline Choreography Camp: Week of July 23rd 27th for Middle School Only at Stingrays Halftime Choreography Attendance is mandatory! Competition Choreography Camp: Date and Time TBD (late July or August) B. Practice Schedule: Coaches may call additional practices as the need arises. Practice times are merely a guide. Sideline: Practices: August 7 th (3 rd 5 th grades only) through the end of October August 8 th (6 th 8 th grades only) through the end of October Every Tuesday 3:30 5:00pm for 3 rd 5 th grades only Every Wednesday 4:30 6:00pm for 6 th 8 th grades only C. Games: Scrimmage (practice game) in mid-august Games scheduled every Saturday mid-august through end of October. Post season could extend into November depending on playoff schedule. NOTE: There could be a game on Labor Day weekend. If so, attendance is mandatory! D. Pictures for Jr. Cougars Cheerleading: We will follow Jr. Cougar Football picture schedule. Jr. Cougar and Elementary Night with CHS: Date August 17 th Location CHS Football Arena There will be a Jr. Cougar cheerleading practice with CHS on August 15 4:30 6:00 8 th grade cheerleaders only will cheer with CHS cheerleaders during 1 st half of game F. Cheer Squad Parties: Dates to be determined by individual grade team reps throughout the football season Examples are ice cream socials, pool parties, pizza parties, bonfires etc L. Jr. Cougar Cheer Banquets: Date November TBD Cost for cheerleader is covered in fees. Other family members are responsible for their cost Section V. Safety Any athlete who is injured will receive medical attention immediately. If a parent cannot be reached, emergency personnel will be called if necessary (911). The parent prior to tryouts must sign a medical release form for this purpose. It is the cheerleader s responsibility to notify their coach of any medical needs or injuries that may arise. Section VI. Fees All fees are due by uniform fitting in April. Competition Spring Training ( April & May $80 monthly) Competition Fall Practices (August October $80 monthly) All accounts must be in good standing with Jr. Cougar Cheer and Stingrays to tryout and participate in the Jr. Cougar Cheer Program. * If your child does not attend a practice you are still financially responsible for those fees. There are no refunds if your child quits or becomes injured during the season. Page 16

17 I. Purpose: Section VII. Junior Cougar Cheerleading Rules & Regulations The purpose of the cheerleading program is to promote the uphold school spirit; develop a sense of goof sportsmanship, and to strive for better relationships between schools during all athletic events. II. General Objectives: Above all, cheerleaders are student athletes and must strive to achieve the highest of standards both academically and physically. They must be dependable, responsible, cooperative, disciplined, enthusiastic and willing to devote time to their squad while continuously striving to improve their skills. Cheerleaders should be respectful to, and cooperative with, the coaches, fellow squad members, peers, teachers, administrators and parents. III. Attendance: As a member of the Junior Cougar Cheerleading Program, you are required to contribute your part. Please understand that it is a team sport. When one person is absent, the entire squad suffers. If one person is absent it affects the entire squad and becomes a safety issue. As a result, the following attendance rules are necessary and must be enforced: August 1, 2018 will be the deadline for submitting any game dates that the cheerleader may miss. This is for weddings, family reunions, or sporting events that your child has already committed to. These will be excused if provided by the deadline. This should be submitted in writing to your team representative. Cheerleaders MUST be present at all practices, games, playoff games. & events, performances, fundraisers, pep rallies, camp and other activities. If a cheerleader is ill, notify your team representative immediately. A phone call and is required and will meet the requirement of written notification of illness. NO GROUPME TEXT! If a cheerleader is going to be late to a practice or game, notify the team representative ahead of time as to the reason for being late. In these situations, disciplinary action will be to the discretion of the team representative according the Jr. Cougar Guidelines Excused practices: If you are sick and out of school the day of practice. School related events are excused. However, all effort should be made to be at practice even if it is for 30 or 45 minutes before the school event takes place. Example: Orchestra, Chorus or Band concert, Grade Level Dances, etc Deaths in the family are excused absences Absences due to an immediate family member in military service being deployed or on leave from deployment will be excused. Religious holidays Bar-Bat Mitzvah of an immediate family member (brother, sister, cousin). Any other reasons would be at the discretion of the board. Excused practices: Illness, death in family, school related trips are all excused. If you are sick, please notify your team representative. Page 17

18 Unexcused practices/games/events: All appointments such as doctor, orthodontist, etc. MUST be scheduled around cheerleading activities and are not considered excused. Early release from or late arrival to practices and/or performances is unacceptable with the exception to required school functions such as orchestra, band or chorus concerts, grade level dances. Optional school event for which the cheerleader voluntarily signed up for. Example: clubs. Required school or church activity for which the cheerleader could have chosen an alternate and nonconflicting day time to complete the requirement. Optional community clubs such as Girl Scouts for example Optional church retreat that is not required by the church Out of town trip with family; unless previously submitted as a wedding or family reunion etc Attendance/Tardiness Policy: Absent from Practice: The cheerleader will not perform in the halftime routine. Cheerleader is required to attend the entire game. Absent from Game: The cheerleader will not cheer the entire 1 st half of the next game. Cheerleader is required to attend the entire game Any cheerleader who misses two games will not cheer the entire 1 st half of the next game or participant in the half time routine at the next game. Cheerleader is required to attend the entire game. Any cheerleader who misses more than 6 quarters of a game due to disciplinary infractions will be automatically dismissed from the squad. Any cheerleader who misses more than 3 games and/or practices due to habitual rule infractions, such as un-excused tardiness and un-excused absences will be dismissed from the squad. IV. Behavior and Discipline: As a member of the Junior Cougar Cheerleading program, you are expected to maintain behavior above reproach. Keep in mind the following rules as you conduct yourself. Any behavior, which is deemed by the coach or Board members as reflecting poorly on the intended image of the school or squad, is subject to dismissal from the program. Insubordination and disrespect to the coaches, team representative and/or squad will NOT be tolerated. Because games are held on Fulton County School System premises and occasionally the property of other school systems, guidelines set forth by those systems must be honored Athletic Events: Chewing gum is not allowed while in uniform and candy is not allowed during games on the sideline or performances. Food or drinks (other than water) will not be allowed on the track or sideline at football games. Personal belongings will not be allowed on the track (i.e. cell phones, ipod). All cheerleaders need to store personal belongings in their cheer bags until the game has officially ended. Cheerleaders should never be seen texting or using electronic devices when on the track. Squad members should arrive at the playing field at the time designated by the coach. Cheerleader will not leave the cheering area without the permission by the coach or team representative. Cheerleaders should refrain from talking to spectators during the game (do not walk up to the fence to visit with friends or parents and do not yell out to spectators in the stands). Cheerleaders are expected to remain in their assigned spot during the games/performances and not wander the track/field to talk to spectators of other cheerleaders. All squad members must report to the coach prior to leaving any event to receive messages or other information. No one is allowed inside the fence except the cheerleaders, coaches, team representative, & Board Members during the games. Page 18

19 School Behavior: A cheerleader MUST maintain good behavior in all school classes and activities. Poor behavior or performance in school can result in removal of the program. A cheerleader should also strive to make the best grades possible. This means doing homework, listening and in class, participating and setting the example for others to follow. Cheerleaders are to obey ALL school rules. Squad/Cheerleader Behavior: Do NOT talk about the football team or any of its players in a negative. Do NOT talk excessively during games to other cheerleaders, football players or spectators. Coaches are to be respectful, Profanity or disrespect of any kind will result in disciplinary action that includes administration, faculty & staff. Show respect for each other s opinions. Be willing to go the extra mile to improve the squad. Cooperate with and respect each other. Do your share of the work. Volunteer without having to be asked! Do NOT argue as a squad in public. Show good sportsmanship at all times. Do NOT talk during instruction time during practice, National Anthem, Silent time or while a player is injured. Be neat in appearance and follow the school dress code when attending any function that represents the school. Forms of Communication/Social Media: Do NOT talk or post about your team mates or other schools in a negative way on any social media. This includes group chats such as Snap Chat. This will result in immediate removal from the program. Always use discretion, modesty and good taste when displaying pictures that show you in uniform on ANY communication or social media device (i.e. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snap Chat, and Texting). This includes no Selfies, Posing, Snap Chatting, etc. Any picture of cheerleaders in uniform may ONLY BE TAKEN at the school scheduled event, game or activity. Never put in text format any information about your cheer team, coach, or school. When an is sent to the entire team, please do not Reply All. Junior Cougar Cheerleaders are never to engage in dialogue on message boards, vents, etc. about their cheer program or other cheer programs. Do NOT post pictures on social media that represent yourself or Jr. Cougars negatively. Do NOT take or post inappropriate pictures of yourself. This will result in immediate removal of the program. V. Uniforms & Appearance: Each cheerleader is required to buy a full uniform: shell, skirt, uniform bow, pom poms, cheer sling bag, rain jacket, (bloomers and leggings elementary only) white cheer shoes, sports bra, and practice wear apparel. A rental fee will be applied for the additional body liner if the cheerleader is on the competition team. Also, there will be a separate comp team uniform bow fee. Spirit wear (optional purchase) is to be worm to school on the Friday before game days. You may only wear your uniform at designated events as outlined by the coach. This includes any part of the uniform that was purchased through the program. Uniform for practices includes the scheduled practice shirt, gym shorts, cheer shoes and hair up in a ponytail with a practice bow. Work with Uniform Coordinator for elementary buy back program Page 19

20 The hair must be worn in a high ponytail. Shorter hair can be worn half up with the cheer bow. The coaches and team representative will let the girls know if their hair is the appropriate length to be worn down. This is a safety precaution for the girls as they are taught how to stunt. Coaches may ask girls to fix their hair if they arrive to a practice or game and it is not up in a ponytail. Keep uniform in good condition and shoes clean. Do NOT share your uniforms or other Junior Cougar cheerleading attire and spirit wear with friends who are not a Jr. Cougar Cheerleader. Lost or damaged uniforms will result in replacing the uniform at full cost. VI.
