1 Main Camp Volume 4 Issue 3 July 16, 2011 The Junior Play Gazette Ellie and Drew Holcomb Concert By: Charlotte Wood Ellie and Drew Holcomb gave us an amazing show last Sunday. It was full of emotion and soulful lyrics. I asked a few campers their opinions of the show to get the public s view of the concert. I surveyed Hannah Williams, Brogan Jackson, Lottice Taylor, Sophie Tippl, Mattie Sullivan, Savannah Lee, Lulu Lavin, and Emily Harrison. They all enjoyed the concert. I loved it. Drew and Ellie are awesome, Hannah said. 2 of them said Magnolia Tree was their favorite song performed by Drew and Ellie. Another 2 of them loved I Like to Be with Me When I m with You. 2 of them couldn t pick: they loved all of them, and the last 2 really liked Live Forever. They were all really excited to go meet Ellie and Drew at free time the day they were here. Not all of them knew about Ellie and Drew before the concert, but some others did. It made it even more exciting, Brogan said. Drew and Ellie were energetic and sincere throughout the entire performance, and everyone enjoyed it so much. Thursday, July 21st was the Junior Play: Aesop's (Oh So Slightly) Updated Fables. I went to cooking to find somebody to interview. I interviewed Natalie Moreton. Natalie thought the Junior Play was marvelous. Her favorite character was Miss Hare, and her favorite scene was The Tortoise and the Hare. I asked her if it made her want to do the play next year, and Natalie said," Yes, it did because it seems like fun." I also interviewed Ansley Juckett. Ansley played the Miller. She had so much fun. Ansley will probably do the play next year. She was really nervous, but she was happy with the end results. "It was so much fun! I loved it," Ansley said. The audience enjoyed it just as much as the cast. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

2 Coming Back I love when I come back on Opening Day, which was on June 27. There are flowers blooming, cabins of people running, counselors and family eagerly waiting. That s the power of Camp. Why I Love By: Charlotte Wood is such a special place. The friends here are unlike the friends anywhere else. I know the friends I make here I will have forever. Camp goes by so fast. You get here and think you have forever, but once you get used to the schedule, the days fly by, and suddenly, you are sitting on your porch, waiting for your mom, wondering where the time went. The fun, the friends, the lifechanging experiences, the caring counselors, the delicious food, the extensive list of classes, the unbelievable Evening Programs, David Speakman s sermons, and most of all, Jesus s amazing presence here, are all reasons why is one of the most special places on Earth, and that is just lovely scratching the surface. There are a million reasons and more, too many to count. Everyone has their own individual reasons why is special to them, but here is why it is special to me. My Love for This Camp Is Like My Love for God By: Emily Roush This camp has a neverending love for campers like God s love, which is neverending. Camp has names of us girls carved on plaques like God, who has all of our names carved on the palms of His hands. The worship we present and our favorite songs are honoring to God. When He sees someone sad, He is there like the girls at Camp. The friendships that you make here are unforgettable, just like God s love for you! Camp and God have more in common than you can imagine. Ale and Yolanda Islas By: Annie Andrews Ale and Yolanda Islas from Monterrey, Mexico came to this year for the first time. They came to because it looked so fun and entertaining! When they first arrived at, Ale s first thought was, I can t wait to go to my cabin and meet my friends! Yolis first thought was fun and exciting! Their favorite things about camp are the friends and the activities. They re favorite classes are Waterpark and High Ropes and all land sports. Their favorite EP is definitely Carnival. If Ale could describe herself in one word it would be photographer. Everyone in school takes a lot of pictures Ale said. If Yolis could describe herself in one word it would be friendly. Their favorite meals are tacos. Yolis says something interesting we might not know about Mexico is The Mayans invented the calendar

3 Gazette Spotlight: Blakely Mulder By: Annie Andrews Surveys By: Maddie Morris Campers have many different opinions on things at. For example, when campers were surveyed, they told what their favorite Banquet themes were: Cinderella, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Annie, The Lion Kind, and Beauty and the Beast all received one vote. However, Willy Wonka had three votes. Campers also were asked what classes they would add to if they could. Claire Hansen suggested a piano or violin class. Other campers said a bracelet making class or being able to go on field trips for a class would be a good addition to. Four campers said they would like for there to be an Advanced cooking class for older girls. Maybe one day these classes will be added! We all love the classes we have now though! Carter Heslam Carter Heslam is a camper at Camp. She is in TL2 and she lives in Boston, MA. Her big sister is Lydia Turbaville. This is her second year at camp and she has only been at Main. Her favorite E.P. is Carnival! Her favorite meal is Cheesy Chicken, and her favorite class is gymnastics. Carter s favorite place to be out of camp is at the mall. She loves the camp counselor Carter Harrison. Her favorite place to be in camp is in the gymnasium. Everything makes me want to come back, Carter said. Blakely Mulder is an out of cabin counselor here at Outsied of her many talents, she has one interesting gift that not everyone know about. Blakely is a professional Ballroom dancer. her favorite thing about ballroom dancing is that it is a very unique way to excercise. When I asked her how she got involved in this career, she replied, They had this activity as an option at my school along with a million others and I really like the people. Blakely said that this is acutally a very popular college sport. Her favorite ballroom dance is the East Coast Swing. Though she hasn t won first playc in any contests, she has placed top three out of 60 or so dancers. Blakely said that most of the competitions are held in cities. I competed in Raleigh, New York City, and Washington D.C. This year the nationals were held in Los Angelos. The competitions are very unique. There are different levels and they usually last two or three days. Boys run around in tuxedos, and girls run around in dresses. You couldn t see it anywhere else. she said. Farewell to Camp By: Elizabeth Dobson Farewell to, to the mountains, the trees and flag in the morning. Farewell to the trifecta of happiness, to campers new and old. Farewell to counselors we will meet again next year. Farewell to the squeak of dining room chairs when pushed out to go to rest hour. We will all miss this place of forever comfort and peace. I already miss camp just thinking about leaving. God bless Camp, forever and always.

4 Spotlight: Ali Glaser By: Maddie Morris As many campers kow, Ali Glaser, counselor of bungalow lower three, currently holds the title of Miss Missouri. The reason Ali got involed in pageants was because she wanted young girls to have a positive role model. Ali s favorite memory from her pageant experence is either meeting her best friend, Miss Oregon, or speaking to girls across the country about Jesus. An interesting fact about Ali is that she was a judge on TLC s Toddlers and Tiara s during season three. Her favorite moment from competing in pageants was winning Miss Congeniality at the 2010 Miss International. Throught her pageant experience, she has learned confidence, how to have a solid job interview, and handling things under pressure. Ali teaches the modeling class here at, and explains that the class is a lot like real pageants. I teach all the girls what you need to know for real pageants. Currently training for Miss America, Ali plans on continuing pageants in the future. My Summer at was amazing. Definitely the best summer ever! The fireworks at Carnival, Corn Roast, Decade Dance, Challenge Day, Watershow, Derby Day, and everything else. It was all so amazing. I ve been coming for seven years, but it s my first year at Main Camp. My favorite class was probably Kayaking. That was made special by Kate Lewkowicz and Maria Tridas, two of the most awesome counselors ever. This has definitely forget. I love the way everyone smiles all day long! I will miss all of the people I ve met this year. Thanks for making my experience so fun! The Highland Games By: Elizabeth Dobson The Highland games would be absolutely the most memorable thing at for me. It all started with the flour sack bursting open and flour exploding all over my wet raincoat. My once green raincoat was now white polka dotted. On to the egg race with good spirits when we all had our turn carrying the egg around a bush. Three girls in my tentalow decided to crack the egg over their heads. That night we all took a very long hot shower. That was the best night of Camp. I Love Camp I love camp with all of the food I have an awesome mood Come back here When it s all clear And you ll have a great summer.
