1 2017 JBQ National Festival Plan Congratulations on being part of the 32 nd annual National Junior Bible Quiz Festival. We are so excited that you'll be joining us at Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, TX on June 8-10, It will be an awesome time for us to "Quiz On" and to crown the National Junior Bible Quiz champion for Please be praying for a great time of quizzing and fellowship, and for God to meet us in a special way. Please read through this document completely so that you - as the team s coordinator or coach - will know exactly what is happening and what you need to do to prepare for the festival. If this and future communications needs to be sent to someone different for your team, please contact us immediately. Here is a checklist of items to complete before arriving at the festival. 1. Book your hotel stay. When you registered, you received a listing of the hotels we blocked rooms off at a discounted rate. Thank you for using these hotels. This will help us keep the costs down for the Festival. 2. Plan to have some fun in Dallas! There are many awesome things you can see and do in the Dallas area. Some have visited the Stockyards, some explore downtown, and don t forget about the great amusement parks. Did you know that there is an Assemblies of God Bible College located in Waxahachie--Southwestern University Assemblies of God Bible College. I love the fact that the Assemblies of God has several great Bible colleges around the nation and this is one of them. For more activities and ideas for dining, check out the pre-festival newsletter on our website, blog and social media. 3. Get your order in for festival T-shirts. If you want the JBQ Festival T-shirt you need to preorder by May 25 th to guarantee that you will get a shirt. Order these online at: 4. Submit a picture of introduction of your team. At the Festival s opening ceremony, all the teams will be introduced. As you are announced, this picture and your team name will appear on the screen. We are asking that you send us a picture of all your team members and coach, keeping in mind the theme Quiz ON! (Hint You might want to think LEGOS) There will be a 1 st place prize of $50.00, 2 nd place prize of $25.00, and a 3 rd place prize of $10.00 in way of certificate to use at one of our festival vendor booths. You can use props, go to a creative place, get the team in some creative pose or do something with the 2017 Festival logo. Use your imagination and come up with a fun, creative photo! Send your picture to Michael Paulsen (Michael-JBQ@comcast.net) by May 25th. a. The picture must be in JPEG format b. The file name has to have your church name with city and state i.e. calvary_naperville_il.jpeg c. If you cannot supply a picture by the deadline, your team will still be announced, but without a picture. PLEASE don't be the team with a blank screen! This is FUN and everyone loves to see themselves on the big screen of the church. 5. Ensure all information is correct. We have entered all the information you supplied on your registration into our database.

2 a. If changes need to be made, please use the link that was given to you in your confirmation . b. Do not us and request that we make the change. c. Because we need time to make name tags and finalize the database, any changes need to be made before May 25 th. After that date, your information is final. 6. Pre-order your meals. The church be serving lunch on both Friday and Saturday. We are asking that you do NOT leave the church for lunch. Quizzing will start back up as quickly as it can after lunch. Lunches are $8 a meal. Please pre-order your meals for by going to the link on the web site or in the blog. 7. Plan to get your picture taken. We will have a professional photographer on-site taking pictures of each team at the Festival. This photo will be used on the plaque that each team will receive at the awards ceremony. Pictures must be taken on Thursday - please plan time for your team to do this when you register. Pictures will be taken until 6:20 PM and then again after the group photo if needed. If you do not think you will be able to have your picture taken on site, you can a picture jpeg format to larrymullins@yahoo.com who will work with the picture submitted to use for your plaque. 8. Smile for the group photo. In addition to the individual team photos, we will have a group photo taken with all 80 teams and their entourages. Also, if you want an extra team photo you can order those early as well. See the web site for ordering information. 9. Help support BGMC. As we have done for about 10 years, we will be taking an offering for BGMC. Just recently, we received an update from a project we helped support with our offering in In Romania, JBQ materials are being translated and kids in several churches are learning JBQ and competing. This picture shows a team using flyswatters as their buzzers. Isn t it awesome that our offering helped support this project and helped spread God s Word throughout the world! PTL!

3 This year our offering is going to a missionary in Africa. Our missionary in Africa - along with the leadership here in America - have seen the great need to reach African children. Over half of the continent s population is children and many are dying or being forced into lifestyles that are very bad. The time to reach them is NOW. Our offering will go to help train kids workers in how to reach children with the gospel of Jesus Christ. They have written a handbook and are translating it into every major language in Africa. Our teams and kids have so much when compared to what they have in Africa, and we want to give an offering to help them. I would also ask you to think about tithing on the money you raised to come to the Festival. Tell your team about this offering and get them excited to give to this project. This offering will be taken on Saturday during our closing ceremony. Our goal this year is to break $6, We can do this as we all work together. 10. Ensure your officials are prepared. Please have all those registered as score keepers watch this online video: It is about the computer scoring that we will be using at the Festival. Also, please have ALL OFFICIALS read the rules before coming to the Festival. We all need to be at our best for the weekend! 11. Bring an extra team shirt for the T-shirt contest. Ready to show your creativity and T-shirt flare? Enter the team T-shirt contest! To enter, bring an extra shirt to the designated table when you check in at the Festival. At the Festival, everyone can vote on the shirt they like best. Voting ends Friday night. There will be prizes given to the teams that get the most votes. 12. Fill out your release forms. Release forms must be filled out online before getting to the Festival. The link is on the web site. You cannot quiz without release forms completed for every quizzer. 13. Get your buzzer set ready. Each team is asked to bring a working buzzer set (please check it before coming) and an extension cord. Ensure that the buzzer set is labeled with both your church s name and city as well as a cell phone number of someone attending the Festival. Last year, two rooms where held up because a coach brought a quiz box, but knew it was not working. It put the WHOLE day behind. Be considerate of others and check the buzzer set to ensure it works. Thank You! FESTIVAL SCHEDULE THURSDAY Checking in: Check-in will begin at 4:00 PM. You will check in by region and your Regional Coordinator will be there to greet you. Only the coach should check in the team and officials. Most registration materials will be ed to team coaches/coordinators in the next few weeks. Any additional information you need for the Festival will be given to the teams at check-in. You will also receive name tags for your team and coaches. Please have your team wear them the entire time you are at the festival. At this time you will also be directed where to take your buzzer set. All teams need to be checked in by 5:30pm. All teams MUST check in and be at the opening ceremony. You may forfeit your first round if your team is not there. Once your team is checked in, this is a great time to get your team picture taken, visit the vendor tables and explore where you will be quizzing.

4 Officials meeting: At 5:45 there will be a meeting for all officials. The meeting will be let out before the opening ceremony at 6:30. Opening Ceremony: The ceremony starts at 6:30pm. We will be reserving seats for all teams to sit together for the opening ceremony. It will last one hour and then we will be taking the group picture. You will be free to leave by 8:00 PM unless you need to have your team picture taken for the plaque. FRIDAY Checking in: Check-in is at 8:00 am and quizzing will start promptly at 8:15 am please be in your room and ready to quiz! Quizzing: Hall Coordinators will be around to help make sure things are going smoothly and keep hallways quiet. They will let you know where you will be eating and when and where breaks will be. We do ask that you move quickly between rooms. We need to get 15 rounds in on Friday and want all teams to finish as close together as possible. Please be considerate of other teams and not make others wait. Lunch: You will be eating on site for lunch. No teams or officials should leave at lunch time. We want to eat and then get back to quizzing as quickly as possible. Snack: We will be providing a snack for all teams on Friday afternoon. It will be a juice drink and a snack of some type for everyone teams, coaches, officials, families & spectators! Worship service: When quizzing is done, we will have a 1 hour service in the sanctuary. It will be a time of worship, and then our quest speaker, Rev Dan Dangerfield will be sharing on the need to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. We expect God to do great things as we worship Him and seek to be empowered by His Holy Spirit. We know your kids know the word. What we want is to see that knowledge mix with God's power. We want to see an army of kids inspired to impact their world for Jesus. We are praying and expecting God to do great things this year as well. Make this part of your plans for the festival. After the worship service, North Central University, one our Assemblies of God Bible Colleges, has a gift for each child. The results of Friday quizzing will be posted on-line after the service. SATURDAY Checking in: Check-in is at 8:00am and quizzing will start promptly at 8:15 AM. Quizzing: You will have 9 rounds of quizzing on Saturday morning, all before lunch. When quizzing is done, you should go to lunch and then to the sanctuary. Awards ceremony: The awards ceremony will start around 1:00 or as soon as most of you are done eating. We have some fun surprises that you and your kids will not want to miss. We will be taking the BGMC offering at this time. Each team will be recognized and will receive a plaque. Each child will also get a patch. We will celebrate each team and then crown our

5 National Junior Bible Quiz Champion for After crowning our Champion we will announce where the 33 rd Festival will be. We will have three newsletters that will be published during the festival, and you will be able to share them electronically with friends and your church. We will also be posting the results of the quizzing on the JBQ Festival website.
