1 10 th Annual Culpeper Young Life Golf Fundraiser - Linking Up Fore Kids Information for Golfers and Golfer/Caddie Teams THE PURPOSE OF THIS FUNDRAISER is to collectively raise at least $20,000 to continue the Young Life mission in the Culpeper area as well as build camaraderie and Young Life spirit. THE MISSION OF YOUNG LIFE is to introduce high school adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. WyldLife is a component of the mission and is designed specifically to reach middle school students. We offer a variety of programs, but most importantly we emphasize the relationships built between adults and teens. Young Life has been reaching out to teenagers in Culpeper County for over 12 years. Currently Culpeper Young Life is ministering to 500 middle/high school kids. We also launched a new component of our ministry called YoungLives, to come alongside pregnant teens and teen moms. Treating each mom and her child or children with unconditional love and respect, YoungLives offers teen moms relief from isolation and struggle of their daily lives and hope for the future. A more detailed description of Young Life s Vision, Mission and Values are included in this handout. WHEN: Friday, April 29, Rain or shine! WHERE: Meadows Farms Golf Course, 4300 Flat Run Road, Locust Grove, VA HERE S HOW THE GOLF FUNDRAISER WORKS: Golfers will play leisure golf and as much golf as you want in a day. Golfers proactively find sponsors to financially support them. Each golfer is allowed to and even encouraged to secure their own caddie who can help gather sponsors and help play holes of golf during the event. The sponsors will pledge on a per-hole-completed basis or lump sum. Sponsors can be either private (family and friends) or corporate (contacts who are business owners). Each golfer or golfer/caddie team is requested to raise $1,000 with a minimum commitment of $500. Golfer or golfer/caddie team will have their own golf cart and golf balls will be provided. Breakfast, lunch and snacks/drinks will be provided throughout the day. An awards dinner will be held on the evening of the event in the club house at 5:30 pm. The golfer or golfer/caddie team who raises the most money will have first pick of all available prizes. A few of the outstanding prizes include: A week stay at a Diamond Resort (your choice), gift certificates from golf courses and fine dining restaurants.

Register for the Event: Golfer s and Golfer/Caddie Team s Responsibilities: To secure your spot you can register on line at Culpeper.younglife.org, click on Golf Fundraiser and click leisure play all day or you can call (540) or ylculpeper@gmail.com. Please let us know if you plan to enlist a caddie to help you fundraise and if you plan to create your own foursome. (This could be eight people if each golfer has a caddie.) II. Getting Sponsors: Start Now: The success and effectiveness of this fundraising event depends on how much effort you put into getting sponsors. We are asking each golfer or golfer/caddie team to commit to raising $1,000 with a minimum commitment of $500. (This is easier than you might think). Where to Find Sponsors: EVERYWHERE - relatives, neighbors, coworkers, business owners, parents of other kids involved in Young Life, the gas meter man - you name it! Don t forget to check with everyone on your Christmas list. You may get some who will give large amounts, but what you'll probably need is a lot of people pledging $50 to $100. (Note: Our intention with this event is partly to reach out to people other than our current Young Life donors who typically pledge before or during our banquet.) Procedures: 1) Tell people that you are raising money for the ministry of Culpeper Young Life. Young Life is a non-profit organization and their gifts are fully tax-deductible. Your manner and especially your enthusiasm are BIG factors. 2) The example of the sponsor letter in this handout is available on line at our web site Culpeper.younglife.org, click on Golf Fundraiser and click on download letter. The letter is in a Word document so you can easily personalize to send it out to your friends and relatives who may live far way. Please feel free to create your own letter. 3) You can send out an or Facebook message (you can send one at a time and personalized) explaining what you are doing and provide the link for them to give in your name. You can find the link by going to Culpeper.younglife.org click on Golf Fundraiser and click sponsor and select your name. Sponsors will be directed to the secure YoungLife online giving site where they can sponsor you just by entering giving info and clicking submit. Please ask your sponsors who make online donations not to give anonymously but use their name so we know who gave the donation. Donors will not be put on any mailing list. If you need help setting this up, please contact us, we would love to help! 4) Golfer and caddies who want to secure business sponsors can use our business brochure. Just contact the Young Life Office at (540) to have some sent to you, or you can download it on line at Culpeper.younglife.org click Golf Fundraiser. Please coordinate your business sponsors with the Young Life Office. We want to make sure business sponsors receive the marketing advertisement as outlined in the brochure.

3 5) If a person would like to pledge, please list the information on the Sponsor Sheet that is provided in this handout. Make sure to get their entire address and phone number please write legibly! Sponsor sheets will be turned in the morning of the event. 6) Once we receive the sponsor sheets, the Young Life Office will send out invoices and handle the collection of pledges that are $25 or more. If you have sponsors who make a pledge for less than $25, please collect the money and bring it with you on April 29 th. Young Life does not give receipts for donations less than $25. If sponsors prefer to write a check and mail it to the Young Life Office, the address is P.O. Box 803, Culpeper VA All checks should be made payable to Young Life. 7) The Young Life Office will take the responsibility of preparing thank you cards for your sponsors. If you would like the number of holes you completed on your cards, please make sure you give that information to the Young Life Office, call 540) or send an to ylculpeper@gmail.com. The cards will be given to you to send out so you can add a personal note. Remember the Incentives: The golfer or golfer/caddie team who raises the most money will have first pick of all available prizes. Golfer/caddie teams have the option of combining their fundraising total and sharing a prize or have individual totals. (When you hit $1000, don t stop getting pledges!) Remember, it s all for a great cause funding this growing ministry! The golf committee is working hard again this year to ensure outstanding prizes, and as soon as the prize list is finalized a copy will be sent to you. III. Play Golf: 1) Arrive on time: Friday, April 29, 2016, 7:15 AM, at Meadows Farms Golf Course. 2) Schedule: (Mostly TBA) we will begin at approximately 8:00 AM and you can play as much golf as you want. There will be several rounds of competitive play. We ll start with registration (don t forget to turn in your sponsor sheets), have breakfast, a group photo, and then hit the links! Then catch a lunch, hit the links... you get the idea. An awards dinner will be held at 5:30 pm in the club house! IV. Helpful Hints for Soliciting Sponsors: 1) Ask, Ask, and Ask! You'll be amazed at how willing people are to sponsor you once you tell them about the event and Young Life's purpose and programs. You just have to ask! 2) Remember Contact Those Far & Wide! For nearby friends, call or stop by - it's harder to say no in person. 3) Remember What You Are Doing This For! By raising money for Culpeper Young Life, you'll be helping this ministry continue to thrive and grow as we reach out to hundreds of high school and middle school kids. 4) Remember that all gifts are tax-deductible. Be sure to collect any gifts under $25 ahead of time. (Actually, collect as much as possible prior to the event

4 A Word about Young Life is an international, nondenominational youth outreach organization that exists to introduce adolescents to the person of Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Young Life is an organization of adults who desire to offer high school and middle school kids activities and opportunities that will make their lives more meaningful and complete. This is done through a variety of programs, but most importantly through the relationships established between adults and teens. Concerned volunteer adults who are willing to listen and spend meaningful time with students present the relevance of the Christian faith and discuss topics such as establishing healthy family relationships, improving self-image, guidelines for dating and marriage, and handling peer pressure. In 2012 we launched YoungLives, a ministry that comes alongside pregnant teens and teen moms. Treating each mom and her child or children with unconditional love and respect, YoungLives offers teen moms relief from the isolation and struggle of their daily lives and hope for the future. YoungLives mentors provide friendship, parenting advice and help meeting the practical demands of raising a child. At YoungLives club and camp, moms get to socialize and have fun while their babies get the best possible care. These relationships don't happen overnight - they take time, patience, trust and consistency. Young Life leaders and YoungLives mentors log many hours with kids where they are, as they are. We listen to their stories and learn what's important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks. We believe in the power of presence. Kids' lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God's love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God's love for them, will impact future decisions careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised. All ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world. We accomplish our Mission by... Praying for young people Going where kids are Building personal relationships with them Winning the right to be heard Providing experiences that are fun, adventurous and life-changing Sharing our lives and the Good News of Jesus Christ with adolescents Inviting them to personally respond to this Good News Loving them regardless of their response Nurturing kids so they might grow in their love for Christ and the knowledge of God s Word and become people who can share their faith with others Helping young people develop the skills, assets and attitudes to reach their full God-giving potential Encouraging kids to live connected to the Body of Christ by being an active member of a local congregation Working with a team of like-minded individuals volunteer leaders, committee members, donors and staff Our Values Living according to and communicating the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ. Carrying out our mission under the authority of Scripture & relying on the Holy Spirit to empower our ministry. Encouraging the welfare and spiritual health of those who do this ministry that they may minister out of a consistent and growing relationship with Christ and His followers. Researching & developing innovative approaches to reaching uncommitted, disinterested kids around the world Welcoming all those whom God calls to our mission - men and women of all races, staff and volunteers who are linked to a common purpose of introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ. 5 Culpeper Young Life 10 th Annual Golf Fundraiser April 29, 2016 Dear Friends, Example Leisure all Day sponsor letter for Golfer or Caddie I am writing to let you know that on Friday, April 29 th I will be playing in the 10 th Annual Culpeper Young Life Fore Kids Golf Fundraiser. This event will involve 40 or so golfers and consist of a full day of golf at Meadows Farms Golf Course. A 27-hole course that includes the country s longest hole. You may be wondering why I am willing to invest my time and efforts into such an event. Well, this might sound cliché, but I am doing this simply because it is such a worthwhile cause. The money raised in this event will directly support the ministry of Young Life in Culpeper County. Young Life is an organization that reaches out to middle and high school students, giving them the opportunity to hear about the love of God through Jesus Christ in a non-threatening and relational atmosphere. It has provided an alternate path for our community to war against drugs and gangs and has been reaching out to teenagers in Culpeper County for over 11 years. Currently Culpeper Young Life is ministering to 500 middle/high school kids, and to teen-aged mothers called YoungLives. Here s how you can help! To raise the local budget each year, Culpeper Young Life has two fundraisers, one of which is this Golf Marathon. Each golfer is rounding up a team of people who will sponsor them. My goal is to raise at least $1,000 and I am asking you to help by sponsoring me.
