2 PREZ SEZ Man what a month!!!can t tell you how many cars I saw, but suffice it to say it was a lot. We now have a complete board to do club business. Please welcome Vicki Diermann, Melissa Quebedeaux and Jack Wise to our 2014 club officers. As a club, we need to start now working on our annual car show. We need all of our members to get involved in taking charge of one or more tasks that it takes to have a successful car show. Please contact Tom Dierman, show chair, to ask what you can do for your club, not what your club can do for you. On behalf of the club,, I would like to extend a warm welcome to new club members, Keith and Anna Lamm and Ken and Julie Turner. It looks like this month is going to be jammed packed with car shows again so hope to see you at one or more. Check out our save the date event on April 12. Hope you can make that one too. Those of you that like cruise nights, should be happy to hear that another cruise night on Johnston street is starting up on Saturday nights from 5pm-10pm. 3 March Car Shows Rather than try to recreate each show, I want to give a quick view of the 3 shows Maxie and I attended in March. For the Spring Fling in New Roads we drove our 65 Red Roadster and met up with Tom and Vickie Diermann in their 2011 Grand Sport and cruised up Hwy 190. We ran into a past president of BSCC, Terry Orgeron, and had a good visit with him. We saw new member Ken and Julie Turner in their 2014 and Darryl Dodd drove up to check things out. The day was very overcast and cool but the rain that was predicted never materialized. Weather probably factored into the smaller enrollment numbers, but I heard they made their goal of 300 plus. I put some pictures on the club facebook page. We were with a large group of Corvettes from New Orleans and Baton Rouge and were able to exchange information with them on our upcoming show. We made it home without incident and only had about 20 rain drops to go through. Next weekend was Lake Arthur City Park show and once again the weather forecast rain. We drove to Lake Arthur in our truck but couldn t get anyone to go with us. We arrived at the park to a full park of cars, food booths, and games along the waterfront. Weather deterred some from coming but again they had over 200 cars and everything was free. We ran into Jeryl Bertrand and his 64 white coupe along with his grandson chomping on a pork chop. We visited with them and walked around and checked out all the cars and ran into fellow members, Beth and Keith Melebeck, who came out just to look around. Left after a few hours and had a great late lunch in Mermentau and rode Hwy 90 all the way home. Pictures are on club facebook page. Last weekend Maxie and I drove our 65 to Breaux Bridge for their annual Parc Hardy show. Overcast, heavy dew but the weather forecast was for sunshine and lots of it. We got there about 9am and already had 69 cars ahead of us. They ended with 155 cars for the day and the sun came out around noon and it turned into a beautiful day for a car show. We saw friends we haven t seen in a while and some we have seen for the last two shows. What I discovered is that people want to get out and enjoy their cars and we want good weather. Everyone was talking about the terrible winter we all had, but are cleaning cars and getting ready for more shows this year. Hope you do the same. Instead of sitting home looking at that car in the garage, grab a lawn chair and the keys and get moving. You meet the nicest people and they all want to talk to you about Corvettes. 4 SAVE THE DATE OF A BAYOU STATE CRUISE Saturday April 12 th Come and join us for a Saturday afternoon cruise that will end up with a delicious meal at a relaxing country camp. We will be meeting at the Albertson s parking lot in Broussard at Hwy 90 and Albertson Parkway at 2:15 leaving out at 2:30. There will be a stop or two along the ride at some local watering holes. Don t forget to bring your chairs and what you want to drink with the meal. 5 BSCC Member Spotlight JAMES YOUENS - Bayou State Corvette Club Member I first became interested in owning a Corvette in the mid 90 s. I had a friend at work that owned a 1972 and it got me interested in owning an older model Corvette. I decided at that time that I would be interested in restoring an old car, if I could find the right one, and the hunt was on for a straight axel car. Many people told me that it would be very difficult to find an old car. I was new to the hobby and really didn t know anything about the cars or the availability of them. At this time I had never been to any type of car show or met any car people. My first job was to try to educate myself about the hobby along with buying a car. I leaned on a few people that did know about Vettes to help me make some of the correct first decisions. I was lucky and didn t get it stuck to me on my first purchase like I have seen many people since then get it done to them. Corvette fever is a real ailment as I soon learned. After about 6 months of serious looking I heard from a guy in Monroe, LA that there was a 1960 vette for sale in the car sales business next to where he worked. Luckily, this guy was a very experience corvette owner and made a good deal for me with the dealer. This was in November of A buddy of mine and I went to Monroe and picked up the car. It was full of parts that someone had taken off of the car in the name of starting a restoration process. The car was missing all of the drive train and also the radiator, but did have a title that I, after a long and frustrating process, was able to get transferred to me as a Louisiana title. This process was a long affair of dealing with a bunch of state beurocrats in itself. This car was not a pretty sight to see as it had no paint on it and the dealer in Monroe had stolen the wheel covers. By the way, the dealer in California, where the car originated, had stolen the hardtop that was with the car when originally sold. I got this info by talking to the previous owner. When my wife, Barbara saw the car, she thought that I had lost my mind in pay for this piece of junk. She also was no too happy with me when I covered the dining table with all of the spare parts. I did not have a shop at the time so what is a guy to do. I, very shortly, fixed that problem with my new shop. This how I got into the Corvette community and continue to be an active member. Since that time I have resurrected a 1973 and a 1961 Corvette. The 1960 received the Duntov Award of Excellence from the NCRS along with the The 1961 was only judged one time and scored a 99 in an NCRS Chapter meet before I sold this car. You may have seen this silver car, as it was on the BSCC show shirt a few years back. And the work continues as I am in the middle of restoring and building a custom Sunfire Yellow, big block 1967 roadster with side pipes, that will retain the nostalgic look but run like a modern car. 6 Bayou State Corvette Club Meeting Minutes March 13, 2014 Minutes of March Meeting by Cindy Rodriguez Members present, Cindy & Maxie Rodriguez, Thad & Jodie Lejeune, Vickie & Tom Diermann, Carole and Russ Stelly, Jack & Chris Wise, Don Everett, Paul Dogali, Keith & Anna Lamm, Rick & Bettie Louviere, Louis & Julia Broussard, and Ken Turner. Meeting was called to order and introductions were made. We recognized new members, Lamms and Turners. Actitivies of the month were discussed along with the icy weather we had been having that caused us to cancel a couple of activities due to hazardous conditions. April 12 th was discussed as a date for a cruise to a relaxing country camp. Tom will put together a flyer with the info. See the website for more information. April member of the month to be highlighted was confirmed to be Vickie Diermann. She will submit an article for the newsletter. Board members were nominated and voted upon as previously announced board members are Jack Wise, Past President, Melissa Quebedeaux and Vickie Diermann. Meeting with the full board will be scheduled on an as needed basis expecting at least once every quarter. Our club show is October 25 th and this is our club s 25 th anniversary in operation so we want to tie that theme into the show. Any suggestions will be appreciated. We are taking a look at different charities for this years show proceeds. We have New Hope Charity and CASA, a children s advocacy program. If you have any other charity requests to submit, please do so. We will pick one soon so we can have that info on our flyer for the show. Rick Louviere said he would contact the Bowling Green Corvette Museum again to see if they can come to the show. Tom is working on logo for shirts and plaques. New Roads Spring Fling show is this weekend and set up meeting place to cruise to New Roads. Keith Lamm, new member, won the 50/50 raffle. Meeting was adjourned and we went to eat at Phares.

8 Upcoming Events The City of Crowley is Sponsoring a spring music and art series. It will be for the entire family and admission is free. The first event will be Thursday March 20 th. ( See Show Schedule) We will have classic car parking blocked off at the event site.(avenue I) Food, Music, art and fun will be in abundance.
