1 CAPITOL CITY CORVETTE CLUB Montgomery, Alabama Minutes of the meeting Tuesday, February 7, 2012 The meeting convened at Mimi s Cafe in Montgomery. Larry Martin, President, called the members to order at 7 PM. SECRETARY S REPORT: Julie Hall, Secretary, reports that the minutes of the last meeting have been distributed in the usual manner via . A hard copy of the minutes is on hand for review, and with no objections noted, a motion was made and passed to accept the minutes as distributed. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Lanna Alwine, Membership Chair, welcomed all members and guests. This month s birthdays include: Jo Alexander, Carol Wilkinson, Tom Argent, Jerry Lobb, Paul Letner, Liz Martin, and Shirley Johnson. We have visitors, Ben and Connie DeAmoco who have a 92 coupe. John Matthews brought guests from Wisconsin, whom he met on the Corvette Forum. They are Dave and Pat Daus and they have a Monterey Red 06 coupe and a white 66 roadster. Lanna mentioned that if anyone wants a club shirt to let Julie Garland know. Lanna is showing Julie how to order the shirts. TREASURER S REPORT: Barbara Bailey, Treasurer, reports that as of January 31, we had $1, in checking and $2, in savings for a total of $4, At present, we have 44 members in current good standing. He does not have enough people signed up for the event yet. Mark said he needs to know tonight if anyone is interested. Mark said everyone who went to the drag strip had a great time. We may go again in February. Mark will let everyone on his Motorheads list know. If you wish to be on this list for track events, please let Mark know.

3 Larry mentioned that our annul Valentine s Day event will be at Sarris at the Station. You may bring gifts to exchange with your spouse, if you would like to do so. There will be good food. Larry mentioned that the Prattville Mardi Gras parade is coming up on February 18 th. We will meet at the Chevron at the Prattville exit at 1:00 PM to leave at 1:15 PM. We will line up at the Autauga Count Courthouse at 1:30 PM. This year you will not be able to join the group if you come late. Please bring $20 for beads and bring your car registration and proof of insurance. The parade starts at 3:00 PM. Larry also mentioned that the GM High Performance Club is hosting a car show on March 3 rd at Rock Bottom, across the road from the old Hooters location. Larry mentioned that our 5 th annual car show at East Chase on September 8 th this year will be hosted by only our club. Last year our club had 47 members helping with the show. Doing the show by ourselves saves some logistics trouble. Jeff Williams mentioned that the Vettes 4 Vets registration is open at vettes4vets.org. This event is held May at Talladega Superspeedway. There are 270 slots available and there are currently 160 people registered. This event has raised $65,000 for different veterans charities over the last several years. There were about 55 volunteers last year and there is a need for just as many this year. AMBASSADOR S REPORT: OJ Webster, NCM Ambassador, mentioned that the NCM Motorsports park, with a mile road course and a skid pad is to be open in The NCM has an opportunity to purchase 220 acres of land adjoining the Motorsports park that could be used for additional tacks, concessions, etc. The Dothan club contributed $15,000 for one acre, they are working on a second one, and have plans to also purchase a third acre for the museum. This park will benefit many people as it can be used for driver s education, training for emergency vehicle drivers, and companies will be able to design their own event around the tracks. OJ said that January 1998 was our club s first big meeting, which was attended by 10 people. That March, OJ went to the Corvette Museum for the first time. During that visit, he found out about NCM Ambassadors and told Dennis (then President) that he wanted to be one and has been ever since. He is now ready to let someone else enjoy that position. WEBSITE REPORT: Roger Lavender mentioned that the new website is up but he has not moved it to the new location yet. The website has been updated with the latest events. 4 CLUB OFFICERS: Jon Briggs reported on behalf of the nominating committee which included himself and Clint Kelley. Jon submitted nominations for club officers as follows: NCM Ambassador Jeff Williams Membership Chair Julie Garland Event Coordinator Mark Reese Social Chair Jimmie Middleton Treasurer Barbara Bailey Secretary Julie Hall Vice President Dennis Hogan President Larry The Prez Martin The nominees agreed to serve this year and all officers were accepted by all club members present. RELAY FOR LIFE: Dennis said that he and Betty are taking over the club s Relay for Life team. The Relay for Life event will be held at Faulkner again this year. The theme is Saddle Up. Dennis said he would like to see the club continue to give back to the community. Our involvement in Relay for Life began when one of our club members developed breast cancer. This year we are going to raise the money without giving our personal information to the American Cancer Society. We will raise the money as a club and then the club present one check to the American Cancer Society for our donation. Luminaries will again be available this year for anyone who would like to honor or memorialize someone special. These will be displayed and lit at the event. Larry said he would like to challenge each family to raise $100 for Relay for Life. Next month Larry will bring items to auction with proceeds going to our Relay for Life effort. OTHER: Jimmy Davis said the 45 th anniversary Camaro is out now. He said the 100 millionth small block motor was made on November 29 th, It was a 4 th generation small block in the form of an LS9. He also mentioned that in 1966 Carroll Shelby made 1,000 Mustangs purchased by Hertz. One of these was sold recently at auction for $145,000. Jimmy asked if Chevrolet ever made a Corvette for Hertz. The answer was yes they made them in Jeff Williams mentioned that he went to a Mechum auction. He bought a bidder s pass for $100. He said the best one is in Kissimmee, Florida. There were about 2,500 cars there and about 25% of them were Corvettes. It costs $250 to place your car in the auction. He said you see things you do not ordinarily see, such as 69 L88 s in two different colors. There were many mid-years there. There was a car just like Paul Letner s that was bid up to $140,000 and the owner turned that down. A 69 L88 convertible sold for $610,000.

5 Instead of a 50/50 drawing, tickets were sold for a Valentine s basket which included a very nice cooked meal and other goodies. $400 was raised in ticket sales for Relay for Life. Ed Hunneyman won the basket. Larry took a vote and everyone agreed that Mimi s Café is a good meeting place, so we will meet here again next time. There was plenty of room for the 57 people who attended the meeting and the food was good. Larry adjourned the meeting at 8 PM.
