ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Draft Minutes of Tuesday, April 11, 2017 (Approved For Publication on July 20, 2017) Salishan Resort Lincoln City, Oregon All Times Are Pacific Daylight Time President Pam Saunders called the meeting to order at 8:04 p.m. Recording Secretary Steve Britton was present. President Saunders announced a quorum was present PRESIDENT S WELCOME President Pam Saunders welcomed members and guests to the 2017 annual membership meeting. She also introduced parliamentarian, Beverly Przybylski, PRP, of Battle Ground, Washington. HOST CLUB WELCOME On behalf of the host clubs, Show Co-chair Chris Lyden welcomed the NCA to Salishan Resort. APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA Without objection, the meeting agenda was adopted.. APPROVAL OF MINUTES President Saunders reported that the May 3, 2016 Annual Meeting Draft Minutes were published in the third quarter issue of Newf Tide. Without objection, the body approved the minutes of the 2016 Annual Membership Meeting held on May 3, OFFICERS REPORTS President Saunders noted the printed officers, financial and board reports that were distributed with the meeting agenda. There was no addition information added to any of the written reports. AKC DELEGATE S REPORT David Helming, AKC Delegate for the Newfoundland Club of America, reported on his activities as the club s delegate. He further reported that Fox Sports One, has scheduled an airing of a television program about the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The show, in part, featured the Bear Mountain Newfoundland Club s contribution to the WKC Meet The Breeds exhibition. REPORT ON AMENDMENTS TO THE NCA ETHICS GUIDE Recording Secretary Steve Britton read the tabulated results of the recent proposed amendments to the NCA Ethics Guide. For adoption, the favorable vote of 2/3 of the members in good standing who return valid ballots within the

2 time limit is required to affect any such amendment. The results of ballot question number one: Shall the NCA amend Section II, sub-section C of the Ethics Guide of the Newfoundland Club of America by adding the following sentence; Breeders shall try their utmost to breed Newfoundlands (both bitches and males) with health clearances for the most recognized problems in the breed including at a minimum: 1. Hip (x-ray), 2. Elbows (x-ray), 3. Heart (cardiologist) and 4. Cystinuria (DNA or parentage). Number of votes cast 703 Number of votes need for adoption Number of affirmative votes received 591 The results of ballot question number two: Number of negative votes received 112 Shall the NCA amend Section III, sub-section C of the Ethics Guide of the Newfoundland Club of America by adding the following sentence; Stud Dog Owners shall try their utmost to breed Newfoundlands (both bitches and males) with health clearances for the most recognized problems in the breed including at a minimum: 1. Hip (x-ray), 2. Elbows (x-ray), 3. Heart (cardiologist) and.4 Cystinuria (DNA or parentage); and by adding a new Section III, sub-section G as follows: G. To use for breeding only stud dogs in good health. Stud Dog Owners shall try their utmost to breed Newfoundlands (both bitches and males) with health clearances for the most recognized problems in the breed including at a minimum: 1. Hip (x-ray), 2. Elbows (x-ray), 3. Heart (cardiologist) and 4. Cystinuria (DNA or parentage). Number of votes cast 642 Number of votes need for adoption Number of affirmative votes received 546 Number of negative votes received 96 President Saunders declared both amendments received the requisite two-thirds vote, and she further declared both amendments adopted. TECHNICAL RESOURCES ADVISORY COMMITTEE REPORT (TRAC) Bill Matlock, chair of the Technical Resources Advisory Committee and Dan Zimmerman, committee member, reported and answered questions of the body about the NCA s new electronic membership renewal feature instituted in the Page 2 of 6

3 membership portal at NCA s website in May Bill Matlock and Dan Zimmerman also highlighted future developments of the portal. At the conclusion of his report and on behalf of the NCA Board of Directors, Bill Matlock presented Technical Resources Advisory Committee members Matt Sidesinger and Dan Zimmerman with the NCA Members of the Year award. NCA CHARITABLE TRUST MANAGEMENT BOARD REPORT (CTMB) Clyde Dunphy, DVM, chair of the NCA CTMB, noted the charitable trust s annual financial report and he highlighted some to the trust s yearly activities. Dr. Dunphy thanked trust management board members Andy Zinsmeyer and Janice Hight for their long period of service to the CTMB; both Andy and Janice are leaving the CTMB. The remainder of Mr. Zinsmeyer s vacated term was filled (by the Trustee) with Lori Littleford, and Denise Hatakeyama was elected (by the Trustee) to the three-year CTMB position. Dr. Dunphy also announced that Maddie Cobban was the recipient of a Junior Scholarship. ISABEL KURTH AWARD At the conclusion of Clyde Dunphy s report, President Saunders introduced Director Steve McAdams, who, on behalf of the NCA Board of Directors, presented Dr. Dunphy with the club s Isabel Kurth Award. AWARDS COMMITTEE REPORT Ingrid Lyden, chair of the Awards Committee, thanked her committee members for tabulating and tracking all awards throughout the year. JUNIORS COMMITTEE Donna Thibault, chair of the Juniors Committee, presented the Top Junior Handler Award to Mariah Huge. HONORARY MEMBERSHIP Board Director Donna Thibault announced that at its 2016 November Face-toface meeting, the NCA Board of Directors elected Mary Lou and William Cuddy to honorary membership. 6 NCA GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD Pam Saunders announced that at its November 2016 Fall Face-to-face meeting, the NCA Board of Directors awarded the NCA Good Sportsmanship Award to Mary Ann Barnhill.
