1 MICHIGAN STATE MUZZLE LOADING ASSOCIATION NEWS LETTER MAR/APRIL 2014 The Presidents Message February 1, 2014 wasn t the best day for the association. As usual it seems that we had treacherous weather for our trek to Eaton Rapids for our annual membership meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who showed up and especially to the Officers and Directors that showed the high dedication to their respective office holdings. The Board and members present voted that the State Shoot move to Columbiaville for the years 2015, 2016 and I have sent a letter of acceptance to Jim Flick, President of Columbiaville Sportsmans Club, and also, that we will be moving the state trailer to Columbiaville shortly after the close of the shoot at Grand Valley in THANKS COLUMBIAVILLE!!!!! Ron Fernwalt says that we are in line with last year as far as match and aggregate sponsors. As a challenge to the other members of the association Marty and I have committed to sponsoring one more match for So, let s step up and do the right thing for the association. The preregistration target request form, implemented by Marty, was a great success. It got everyone registered in a timely manner and back to their trailer for an evening of relaxation. It was a lot easier for us to fill the target requests, for your pick-up later, after registration was done. Thanks Marty In closing I would like to wish everyone the best for the Easter Holidays. Also, I hope I see all at the State Shoot in July. There are still plenty of matches open to be sponsored for both rifle and shotgun. Check with your local business and your local club to see if they won t sponsor a match or two. Sponsoring a match helps keep the cost of registration down and also helps for cost of prizes and medals. The association prints about 2000 shoot schedules a year, the shoot schedule is on the web site, supports the Keeler Society, the newsletter is free to those that have and is also on the web and only $12.00 per year for those that want it mailed. The sponsors list is in the newsletter for five issues which approximately 200 s go out every other month. Dead line for sponsors is May 1 so we can get the flyers printed in plenty of time.

3 MSMLA SHOTGUN CHAMPIONSHIP A couple reminders for this years shoot. The first is that we are going to shoot Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Protection matches will be a payback instead of shooting supplies. So the more participation the more the winners could win. Also this will be our first year of a three year commitment that we will be at Grand Valley Cap n Ballers. We have a couple of new trophies this year. Pat King has donated a trophy for the Dean and Pat King Co-Ed Protection match. Ron Fernwalt and JC have put together a trophy for match 4 Percussion Championship. As always we are looking for match sponsorships. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor a match please get a hold of me. The someone could even be a business. 5 LOSS OF A LOVED ONE Howard Reist was a muzzle loader from many years ago, but I thought there would be some out in our community who would remember him. Howard passed away Feb. 2nd. He lived in Charlotte, he is survived by his wife, Chris, and his son Arthur, and 4 grandchildren. He was very involved in the sport for years until poor health forced him to quit. They were great friends with Ma and Pa Keeler. FOR SALE I have a super nice.58 cal flintlock made by Ray at Sitting Fox. The rifle has nice furniture and near exhibition grade curly maple full stock. It has a custom Colerain barrel with a 1:66 twist (I believe), very nice sling, the furniture to convert it to percussion and other accessories. I've killed deer with it and it likes about 70grs of 2F. Sadly, my issue is the sights are a blur and past eye surgery, will remain a blur. I'll make someone a super heck of a deal on everything, if serious. I'm in the Grand Rapids area if anyone wants to look at it.
