A few weeks ago, I went to Washington, DC to make a stand against abortion at the March for Life. I got on a bus at midnight at St. Mary s Church in Warren, Ohio. We rode for five hours. About half way through the ride, I got very motion sick. I felt nauseated and it didn t help that we were going through the mountains. We stopped at Somerset, PA, and had something to eat while the bus driver rested. Then, we got back into the bus and drove (and drove, and drove). Finally, I looked out the window and saw something. It was tall and had a red flashing light on the top. Then, it hit me! I was looking at the Washington Monument! When we got into the city, we stopped on the side of the street and got ready to get out. When we were all ready, we got off the bus and went into the Verizon Center. There, we had a rally where we were singing and dancing. When the rally was over, it was time for the Mass. The Mass had about fifty or sixty priests, deacons and bishops there. Then, it was time for the big walk. My group walked around the entire capital building. We had signs and everyone was singing, yelling and chanting. Afterward, it was time to get back on the bus. It was such a moving experience. I think that everyone should have that great feeling that they are making a difference! 2 Around JFK Jr. High.. K-Day by D. Massacci Great Adventures by C. Soplata This winter we had an event called K-Day. K-Day is about global leader ship and what that means is that Kennedy is teaching us how to be global leaders. There were many inspiring people at K-Day this year. JD and the Goodnights, Christopher Milo, and many others taught us what it is like to follow your dreams and believe in God. For Example, Christopher Milo said he was paralyzed from the waist down and could not play the thing he loved most his piano. He also stated that with prayer he overcame his paralysis and was able to walk again. He told us, Do not be afraid to show your talents. Then JD and the Goodnights said Follow your dreams. This to me is what K-Day is all about coming together as one school and listening to what these people can teach us. One day I was riding in a canoe in Ontario, Canada, and someone in a nearby canoe said, Look! I saw a moose. It was gigantic, hair covered, and had big antlers. The moose looked at us and walked slowly back into the forest. This is just one of the things that I have seen throughout my experiences as a member of Boy Scout Troop 101. Troop 101 is always looking for new members to join (ages 11 to 18). While in the troop you are surrounded by friendly faces. The troop goes on monthly campouts, and these campouts include skiing, hiking, biking, canoeing, and lots more. Every year we go to a week long summer camp where we get merit badges to help us get the highest rank. Merit badges are small badges that are awarded for hobbies such as swimming, canoeing, camping, archery, leatherworking, and much more. The troop is also having its 26thAnnual Spaghetti Dinner. The dinner is held on April 13, 2014, and the tickets are &8 for adults and $5 for children, 12 and under. The dinner will be at Blessed Sacrament Church (the JFK Lower Campus). Buy a ticket from a Scout, get one at the door, or even stop in for carry-out! Pre-order 12 or more dinners and receive free delivery! There will be a variety of basket raffles Don t miss out! Sports Time @ JFK Jr. High Jr. High Track by M. Martin What s in store for the JFK Junior High Track team this season?

Dashes, long distance, short distance, and all the other options can be occupied by fast and agile speed demons.

Why are they excited? What are they on the team for? I got deep in conversation with one of the fastest kids in Junior High, Devonte Parker.

He finally responded, To be honest, I just want to get out and be active, because soccer will end soon, and I ll have nothing to do.

3 Sports JFK Jr. High Jr. High Track by M. Martin What s in store for the JFK Junior High Track team this season? There are many candidates for this year s squad, and it s looking to be a good season. Personally, I know the people who are looking to be on this team are very fast. Dashes, long distance, short distance, and all the other options can be occupied by fast and agile speed demons. I know that I m excited, and I m ready to see the other s speed limits and potential for this year, and I just love to run! But what does being on the Track team mean for some people? Why are they excited? What are they on the team for? I got deep in conversation with one of the fastest kids in Junior High, Devonte Parker. I asked him, Why do you want to be on the track team, especially as a potential runner? He seemed deep in thought. He finally responded, To be honest, I just want to get out and be active, because soccer will end soon, and I ll have nothing to do. His answer seemed legitimate, but I knew he was truly a future track runner year-round, so I wanted to get closer to someone who I didn t know his potential or his future as a runner, so I spoke to Grant Fee. Grant was fast, and I knew he wanted to be on the team, Attention All Girls! By V. Kellar so I asked him the same question I asked Devonte, and he gave me the same look I expected, the deep-in-thought look. He responded, Honestly, I don t know, I just want something to do. And that answered my question, and I m not saying that Grant isn t good at what he s hoping to do, but his response answered my question by saying that my science teacher s experience, Mr. Mark, was correct. I won t quote him, but basically what he said was that the kids in Junior High that are into soccer, don t have a JFK soccer team to play on, so they run track or play another sport instead. When they get to high school, their options are endless, and those kids will have a critical choice to make of what team they are choosing to be on. I had another question, and went to the same people that I asked before, What do you think track is for? I asked Devonte and oddly enough, the answer came quickly, and there wasn t much thought. I feel it s way to express yourself through running, as cliché as it sounds. And that answer made me feel like track wasn t just something to do, or just for fast people, it was just a way to run, fast or slow, and if you have a knack to run, there s no better place than the track behind the upper campus. My next question was just for fun, and an observation, so I asked Devonte, Why are you excited for track? He responded, I m just excited to run constantly, and I m excited for our season and players! In conclusion, track should be an exciting ride this year! Good Luck! Break a leg.or don t! If you re a girl who has any interest at all in high school sports, then listen up! Our high school girls athletic program is in need of girls with determination and a good attitude;; you don t need to be a great athlete, you just need to show some potential and try your hardest. Over the years, our girls program has been faltering. In the school year we didn t have enough girls to make a high school basketball team and we barely had enough to form a softball team. This past season, girls high school basketball was in a rebuilding stage, strengthening girls fundamental skills and understanding of the game. In softball s upcoming season we ve been fortunate enough to have a team of 18 prospective girls. Both teams will continue to grow stronger in the years to come as long as students keep signing up to play. Every girl s sport at Kennedy, not just basketball and softball, needs to grow in size and ability. Don t be afraid to sign up for a sport that you ve never played, or even thought of playing; our teams need every member they can get! Just come to practice, try your hardest, and show a positive attitude towards your coaches and teammates. Help out our school s athletic program and consider signing up for a sport in junior high and high school! 3
