4 Introduction This handbook contains details of the forthcoming competitions and the entry procedures, rules and regulations relating to the competition programme. FIG & BG regulations will apply at all Scottish Competitions unless stated otherwise. This handbook must be read in conjunction with the British Gymnastics Men s Artistic Competition Handbook (available from the BG website). Clubs with gymnasts competing in grades and voluntary code competitions should ensure that their coaches have a good working knowledge of the FIG code of points and have an appropriate number of judges available to assist who are qualified at the level the gymnasts are competing at. 6 Competition Structure Beginner / Intermediate This is the entry level of competition where gymnasts compete on Floor and Vault. The competition rules for Beginner and Intermediate can be found in this handbook before the entry forms Age Groups Year Born Under 8 Under 10 Under or later (Beginner only) or earlier National Grades The "Grades" are the National Development Plan for Men's Artistic Gymnastics. There are two pathways - Club Development and National Elite Grades each with 6 levels up to the age of 14 yrs. A qualifier is held to select the gymnasts (In Age) that will compete at the British Grades Finals. Every club should own copies of the Grades books available from the British Gymnastics website. Club Development Grades (CDG) For club level gymnasts competing either In Age or Out of Age (see table below). National Elite Grades (NEG) For performance level gymnasts who must compete In Age except under 8s who can enter the preparation Level 1 U8 up to one year younger (with no progression to finals). No changes are permitted between the Scottish Regional Qualifiers and the British Grades Finals. Voluntary Code Competitions These include the Scottish Championships, most British national competitions, all non-grades competitions and international events. Typically seniors compete on the Senior FIG code of points whilst juniors compete on the Junior FIG code or a modified code (e.g. British Junior Code see BG MTC Competition Handbook). Please check the rules specific to that competition when entering. 7 NEW Grand Prix Floor & Vault League The Men s Artistic Technical Panel is proud to present a new way for ALL gymnasts, coaches & clubs in Scotland to participate in the Men s Artistic gymnastics competition pathway. NEW for 2017 is our Grand Prix Floor & Vault League, which will culminate in the Scottish Floor & Vault Championships. We would like to introduce to you the Men s Artistic Floor & Vault Grand Prix League. The men's technical panel is trying to encourage as many boys in Scotland as possible to participate in competitive gymnastics. So whether you participate in a men's artistic club, women's artistic club, recreational or schools gymnastics we would like you to come along and get involved Medals and rosettes will be awarded to gymnasts placing 1-9 (medal 1-3, rosettes 4-9). Additionally, points will be awarded to each of the gymnasts in their own category. Gymnasts can accrue points throughout the year and in November the league winners will be announced at the brand new gymnastics Gala Day, which will also be the day of the Scottish Floor & Vault Championships. There will be a full programme of activities and guests to inspire and enthuse our gymnasts. At the Gala Day, we will be taking the opportunity to recognise the hard work of our volunteers, gymnasts and coaches. WATCH our video online explaining how this will work New competition structure for floor and vault Gymnasts placed 1st to 10th will receive points which they will accrue over the year 1st 2nd 3rd will medal, the rest will receive rosettes for each category up to 10th place This will culminate in our Gala Day where we will have our Scottish Floor & Vault Championships Also new for this year will be prizes for our Grand Prix champions at each age level. These prizes will be provided in conjunction with our sponsors, Milano Pro Sport. For those gymnasts competing in the Grand Prix League, movement from beginner to intermediate will not be possible until the following year 7 P a g e

8 Competition Entries Entry Process Superseded by JULY 2017 MEMO All entries must be submitted electronically using the electronic entry form on the SG website, these can be found under each specific event within the event calendar. Postal, scanned, PDF or written entry forms are no longer accepted as of 1 st January Entry forms must be received by the stipulated closing date and time. Incomplete/Incorrect entry forms will be returned to the named contact. Please note gymnasts are entered in the programme in the order submitted on the entry form. When multiple teams are being entered from a club please ensure they are, if relevant, ranked appropriately. For more information regarding Scottish Eligibility please follow the link here Methods of Payment Payment can be made via cheque to Scottish Gymnastics or BACs to the SG Account and should be received by SG within one week of the entry closing date. If paying by BACs, clubs must use the given reference stipulated within the individual competition details. Late Entries Superseded by JULY 2017 MEMO Late entries received before the programme is made up MAY be included in the competition at the discretion of the MTP and on payment of a double entry fee. Late entries will only be considered up to 7 days after the competition closing date and in exceptional circumstances. Late entries received in the SG office after the programme is made up may be held on a waiting list in order of acceptance by the Competition Organiser. The Competition Organiser will replace any withdrawals with names taken from this list as spaces become available in the appropriate section/age group. The penalty fee should be submitted with the entry. Withdrawals and Substitutions Amendments to an entry before the closing date will not incur a penalty and in the case of withdrawals, the entry fee will be refunded. Entry fees are non-refundable after the closing date. The competition organiser must be notified of any withdrawals prior to the start of the competition, this can be done via the SG Events Department. This will allow the competition organiser to adjust timings or include a gymnast on a waiting list. Where it is necessary to substitute/add a coach, judge or volunteer the club must inform the SG events department, so the coach can be checked for membership, awards and safeguarding, before they can be accredited for the event. Cancellation of competitions The MTP reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a competition at their discretion if in the opinion of the MTP there are insufficient competitors entered. In such cases competitor s/clubs shall be offered a refund of the entry fees paid. In such cases the MTP s liability shall be restricted to reimbursement of any entry fees paid to them. In the event of a cancellation for a reason out with the control of the MTP, the MTP shall be under no obligation to provide any reimbursement. In the event of any reimbursement being made, it shall be a gratuitous payment made without obligation or liability. 8 P a g e

9 Terms & Conditions of entry to all SG competitions You agree to abide by the SG Photography guidelines at events You agree to the storing of competition scores on SG databases and the SG website The MTP reserve the right to refuse any entry and disqualify a competitor or team at any time if they do not comply with Scottish Gymnastics regulations. The person making the entry on behalf of gymnast(s) or a club, undertakes to ensure that those who they are making the entry on behalf of are fully aware of and agree to abide by the contents of this handbook 9 P a g e

10 Competition Regulations Gymnasts Membership Gymnasts must have SG & BG Silver membership in order to enter a competition, with the exception of Beginner Floor and Vault competitions where bronze membership will be accepted. It is the responsibility of the gymnast s club to ensure that each gymnast has the appropriate level of membership. Gymnast Attire Regulations of dress are contained in the F.I.G Code of Points and must be adhered to. Gymnasts Code of Conduct Clothing indicating National Team representation should not be worn by gymnasts or coaches at domestic competition. Gymnasts must not remove leotards until they are in the competitors' seating area. Any gymnasts found breaking this rule will receive a deduction for an attire violation in accordance as per FIG code of points. During march round, gymnasts are expected to proceed neatly and in line as directed by competition officials. All competitors are expected to enter the arena smartly dressed. Gymnasts should wear either a zipped club tracksuit or leotard. Non-uniformed t-shirts and outdoor shoes are not accepted for march on. All bags and equipment relating to performance should be stowed at the gymnasts seating area for the first piece of apparatus. Gymnasts should ensure that long hair is tied back, and any tattoos are covered up. No jewellery, body piercing or adornments of any kind are permitted in training or competition. Gymnasts will not be allowed to compete at any Scottish gymnastics event with jewellery on. Gymnasts are expected to maintain high standards to behaviour at all times showing respect for their fellow competitors, competition officials and coaches. 10 P a g e

11 Competition Regulations Coaches Membership Coaches who reside in Scotland must have Level 2 or above coaching qualification and must have current SG & BG Gold membership. Assisting coaches must hold a minimum level 1 coach membership or above and must have SG & BG Silver membership or above. Coaches without an up to date Safeguarding certificate and a current Disclosure (PVG) Record accessed through Scottish Gymnastics will not be eligible to take gymnasts on to the competition floor or accompany gymnasts to events. Safeguarding must be renewed every three years and must be valid both at the time of entry and through to the end of the event. Coaches must also hold a valid PVG certificate both at the time of entry through to the end of the event. Coaches who are substituting on the day of competition must provide a copy of their PVG accessed through SG, Safeguarding Certificate and SGA membership card at registration, otherwise they will not be permitted onto the competition floor. Coaching Practice All coaches in attendance at a MTP event must have the appropriate qualification for the skills being competed by their gymnast. It is the responsibility of the club and the coach to ensure that the appropriate qualification has been attained by the nominated coach. The minimum qualification required for a MTP event is MA Level 2. Assistant coaches are allowed on the competition floor but not in an active coaching role. Second nominated coach: A second qualified (Level 1 or above) nominated coach may be accredited to be present on the competition floor and may undertake the following roles; pastoral care of the gymnasts, moving equipment (springboards, mats etc.) adjusting apparatus and presenting the gymnast. The second coach may not spot the gymnast unless they are qualified to do so. Floor & Vault: The coach may be Level 2 or above in any Artistic or general discipline as long as they are qualified to coach the floor and vault skills being performed by their gymnasts The competition organiser (or a nominated representative), have a duty to challenge unsafe practice but the ultimate responsibility on the competition floor is with the coach. In extreme cases, where a coach does not respond to the concerns being expressed, the organisers could stop the gymnast competing and remove the coach from the competition floor. Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in the withdrawal of the gymnast and is likely to negate the coach s Gymnastics Insurance. Coaches Code of Conduct Coaches are expected to maintain a high standard of dress. Standard dress would include trainers, full-length tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt or polo shirt and tracksuit top / fleece identifiable with their own club logo. Coaches should ensure that long hair is tied back, and must ensure that all jewellery is removed (or adequately covered up), small stud earrings and wedding bands are permitted. 11 P a g e

12 Coaches are not permitted to use mobile phones or any other electronic communication devices including tablets, to make calls, take photographs/video footage or be used for any other forms of main communication in the main arena during a competition. Coaches must ensure that their language and behaviour at all times is appropriate, reflecting highly on their club, themselves and the sport. Coaches are not permitted to eat or chew whilst in the competition arena. Coaches are expected to show respect for their fellow coaches and competition officials at all times. Coaches are not permitted to approach the judges at any time during the competition 12 P a g e

13 Competition Regulations - Judges Membership Judges must hold current SG & BG membership, in line with the level they are qualified to. Judges must also hold a current cycle of judging award (Cycle 13) Although it is not mandatory it is considered to be good practice for judges to attend safeguarding. Any judge who has a dual role as a coach within a club must have valid PVG and safeguarding as stated above. Coaches, Judges and gymnasts should carry current membership cards to all competitions and be prepared for these to be checked by the competition organiser or their appointed officials. Nomination of Judges Clubs must arrange a minimum of one judge for the full duration of every competition that they enter. Every club is expected to have an appropriate number of judges qualified to the competition level of their gymnasts who maintain an active involvement in Men's Artistic Gymnastics. The minimum level of judge is Men's Artistic Club Judge. Any competition entry forms which are submitted without a nominated judge will not be accepted. If a revised entry form, including the name of a judge, does not reach the SG Office before the closing date for the competition, the entry will not be included in the programme for that competition. Clubs MUST ensure they have the agreement of the judge in question to officiate at the competition entered PRIOR to submitting their entry. New Club s Nominating Judges Clubs entering an SG MTP Competition for the first time can request an exemption from the above rule and should seek assistance by contacting the MTP judging officer. The following procedure should be followed: A written request for exemption from rule must be included when submitting the electronic entry form The MTP will endeavour to introduce coaches from a new club to a judge who could be contacted re nomination on entry forms. The nominated judge does not have to be a member of the club making the nomination. Judging Attire Navy blue jacket with navy blue skirt or full length trousers, white shirt or blouse with a collar (either short or long sleeved) Hair must be neat and not inhibit vision Jewelry, if worn, must be professional in appearance Shoes must be professional in appearance (in particular, no flip flops or trainers) Judge s Code of Conduct Judges are expected to march into the competition arena prior to the march in of the competing gymnasts, unless notified otherwise. Judges should keep their tables clean and only have on the table items required for judging, keeping all outdoor clothing and bags stored out of sight. Judges are required to stay at the venue until released by the Competition Organiser in case they are required to assist with the checking of scores. 13 P a g e

14 Volunteering Regulations By entering a Scottish Men s Artistic competition clubs are required to provide volunteers who will be available to assist on the day of the competition. Procedure When the competition programme goes out, each club will be contacted and asked to provide a volunteer for an allocated time slot(s) over the competition day/weekend, failure to do so by one week prior to the event taking place will incur a penalty for the club. Club contact (as named on entry form) must provide a volunteer name when requested (one week prior to the competition) The named volunteer must be at least 16 years of age, and preferably aged over 18. Please indicate if the volunteer is 16 or 17 years of age. Any coaches named as accompanying gymnasts on the floor at the competition may not also be named as volunteers. The volunteers contact telephone number and address should be provided to the MA TP official as per request prior to each competition. It is the club s responsibility to ensure that the nominated volunteer is advised of their role at the competition, what is expected from them and the time there are required to volunteer for. (Please ask the nominated MTP official if unsure) The volunteer should then report to the Competition Organiser at their allocated time slot. Please note that some volunteers may have agreed in advance to officiate as Floor Manager, Computer or Manual Scorer etc. at specific competitions and they may be nominated as the volunteer from their club for those competitions. If a volunteer cannot attend for any reason it is the club s responsibility to find a replacement. Failure to do will result in the club being fined P a g e

15 General Regulations Registration Coaches must sign in at the registration desk on arrival at the venue, where they will may be required to produce their SG/BG membership card. Coaches must ensure they carry their SG membership card at all times as proof of insurance. Only register your gymnasts/club when those competing in that section of the event have arrived at the event and intend to compete. Please inform the registration desk of any withdrawals as soon as possible. Coaches may be provided with gymnast numbers and competition information. Gymnast numbers should be displayed to the judges before competing and where possible the announcer. Order of Performance In order to maintain a smooth and timely running of the event or where the safety, security and good performance of the gymnasts is a concern, the MTP reserve the right to alter the working order and or time/commencement of the competition round as may be deemed necessary by the organiser or authorised officials. Wherever practical the organiser shall produce and circulate to all participating clubs a provisional competition programme and running order for an event at least 2 weeks before the day thereof. Before the start of each round of competition (as notified by the competition organiser) a judges meeting will take place. The timing of this meeting will be stated in the event programme. Attendance at technical briefing is compulsory. At Beginner and Intermediate competitions, the order of performance will operate as per the competition programme. Should coaches wish their gymnasts within a team to compete in a specific order then the gymnast names should be written on the entry forms accordingly. At individual competitions, gymnasts should perform as per the competition programme for the first rotation. In the second and each subsequent rotation, the order of performance can drop down in order that the gymnast who started the previous round will perform last and the next gymnast will begin the round. This will be at the discretion of the coaches. At team competitions, the coach may choose and vary the order of the members of his/her team on each piece of apparatus, according to the order which he/she believes to be best for the team. The team order must then be submitted in advance to the Head Judge prior to the round Competition Apparatus Unless otherwise stated the equipment at SG MTP competitions will be to FIG specifications. Appeals on D Jury Score Any queries on the start value (D score) must be made to the Head Judge in the first instance. If this does not resolve the issue then coaches may appeal formally to the Jury of Appeal, where available, for a final decision. Coaches may approach the judges table, but not whilst an exercise is in progress and must immediately leave the judges table if requested. The E jury score cannot be disputed or appealed. 15 P a g e

16 Formal appeals should be made in writing to the Competition Controller at the event accompanied with a fee of Any appeals must be submitted within 15 minutes of the presentation of the score. An Appeal Pro Forma will be available on request at the Competition Score Desk. Only official video evidence will be accepted at SG MTP competitions at the discretion of the Head Judge/Jury of Appeal. Health and Safety The safety of all participants (gymnasts, coaches and officials) is the primary consideration. All SG policies will be rigorously applied with regards to health, safety and welfare and child protection. Coaches are reminded of their responsibility in relation to their gymnasts in the competition environment this will specifically include ensuring the gymnasts are adequately prepared (physically and psychologically) for performing their routines in a competition situation. Anyone requiring first aid assistance should speak to either a member of the events team or the competition organiser. Trophies Recipients of an annual trophy must ensure they are carefully looked after and are properly inscribed, cleaned and returned in time for presentation to the next recipient by either returning it to the Competition Organiser one week prior to the competition, or returning it to the Scottish Gymnastics office at least one week prior to the competition. Returning the trophy on the day of the competition can only be done with the permission of the Competition Organiser. If a trophy is lost or stolen, please inform Scottish Gymnastics immediately. Failure to return a trophy or returning a trophy in a poor condition will result in a charge being made to cover the cost of replacing the original. Photography In accordance with current SG policy, flash photography is not permitted during the warm up or competition phases of any Scottish Gymnastics event. SG accredited photographers may be present at SG events and in some cases events may be videoed. These images/footage may be used by SG and our partners for the purposes of promotion, education and development of the sport. They may also be shared with relevant third part organisations for journalistic/promotional purposes. Clubs must ensure that gymnasts/parents are informed of the photography arrangements for the relevant event. Any gymnast or parent who does not wish themselves or their child to be photographed/filmed at the event must advise Scottish Gymnastics Events Department. The SG photography guidelines are available on the Scottish Gymnastics website. Spectators Spectator entry to Scottish Gymnastics competitions will be available on the door on the day of competition. 16 P a g e

17 Spectators Code of Conduct Clubs should take responsibility for the behaviour of their members and supporters, spectators must: Switch mobile phones to silent during the competition. Remain supportive throughout the competition, and must not interfere with other spectators enjoyment or disturb any of the gymnasts. Refrain from moving about the seating area whilst gymnasts are competing. Remain in the spectator seating area and not enter controlled areas including competition field of play and the control desk. Treat the competition venues with respect, particularly in respect of food and drink rules. Respect all competitors, coaches and competition officials. The Competition Organiser reserves the right to remove any spectators in breach of this code of conduct. 17 P a g e

Gold medals will also be awarded for the highest score on each piece in the following format: Club Grades - Pre level 1, level 1, level 2 Club grades - levels 3, 4, 5 & 6 Elite Grades - All levels Gymnast at this event can enter individual pieces of apparatus if they are not ready to do all around. For NEG, App routines will not be charged and will be competed directly after the gymnast has completed their vault. 23 Date Event Closing Date 17 th Sept Scottish Grades Series 3 Regional Grades Qualifier 10 th Aug (noon) Venue Bells Sports Centre, Perth Eligibility & Format Age Groups & Code Selection to British Grades Finals This is the qualifying competition to select the gymnasts (In Age) who will represent the Scottish region at the British Grades finals in November Out of Age gymnasts can compete but do not progress to finals It is assumed that all In Age gymnasts entering are to be considered for selection. (Clubs must therefore notify the Competition Organiser if any gymnasts are to be excluded from consideration prior to the start of the competition) Team and/or Individual entry Clubs must be members of SG and gymnasts affiliated as competitive members Team and Individual All Around 1st, 2nd, 3rd award for each age group Age groups as per the table in previous section (In Age or Out of Age) Teams consist of 3 to 5 gymnasts in the same grade level, and in the CDG can consist of a mixture of In Age and/or Out of Age gymnasts Rules and code as per the British CDG & NEG grades books and can be obtained via the BG website Gymnasts born 2009 can take part out of age in level 1 in either of the grades for early preparation towards the following year In Age competition Gymnasts in level 1 can use an additional springboard or 10cm mat for mount onto Parallel Bars without penalty Following the Regional Grades Qualifiers the gymnasts selected to compete at the British Grades Finals will be announced Selection letters will be issued and prompt confirmation will be requested Team coaches will be appointed and team training sessions will be announced All team members will be expected to commit to the training sessions Entry Fee 40 per gymnast plus 12 per team BACS Ref: [clubname]mag 23 P a g e

26 Appendices Scottish Men s Artistic Beginner & Intermediate Floor and Vault Rules 2017 Age Groups Year Born Under 8 Under 10 Under or earlier (Beginner only) or earlier FLOOR (12x2m strip of mats) Each gymnast should perform a routine of 8 elements from the list provided overleaf. Gymnasts should be encouraged to demonstrate a variety of skills, i.e. forward and backward movement, balance and flexibility. Each gymnast will start with 10 points and performance errors will be deducted. The value of the difficulty of the elements will be added to give a final score. D-SCORE = TOTAL SUM OF THE VALUES OF THE 8 ELEMENTS PERFORMED E-SCORE = 10 POINTS LESS ANY DEDUCTONS FOR EXECUTION FAULTS FINAL SCORE = D-SCORE + E-SCORE PENALTIES OMMITTED ELEMENT = VALUE OF ELEMENT AND 0.5 PENALTY DEDUCTION ROUTINE NOT PERFORMED AS TARIFF SHEET = 0.3 VAULT Each gymnast should perform the same vault twice. The type of vault varies for each age group (illustrated overleaf). For beginners, best vault score counts. For Intermediate gymnasts, average vault score is calculated. Each gymnast will start with 10 points and execution errors will be deducted from this. The difficulty value of the vault will be added to give the final score.
