HISTORY D. Koronakis SA started early in 1950, as a commercial ship chandler company, mostly impor=ng and trading: steel wire ropes and mooring ropes
In 1969, with the technical support of the German wire rope manufacturer CASAR, we established the first produc=on unit of wire ropes.

By 1971, the factory was expanded with a new produc=on unit for synthe=c rope manufacturing.
Ever since, our company has become a world leader in ropes steel wire ropes, anchor anchor chain supply, serving the needs of : Shipping Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling, Towing Yach=ng, Sailing Fishing and Aquaculture Industries
We are responding 24/7 to the customer's needs all over the world, through the 20 stock points that we maintain in 4 con=nents including Singapore, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Panama, Ro`erdam, Dubai, Durban (South Africa), etc.

Anchor Chains
Anchors
Wire Ropes Cable laid wire ropes (mooring) Special (non rota=ng) wire ropes Special (plac=c filled) wire ropes
Synthe.c Ropes Apart from 3 strand twisted and 8 strand braided (or plaited) ropes, D. Koronakis S.A. invented the famous KAPA ROPE construc=on, back in 1992.
KAPA ROPE was (and s=ll remains) the unique round rope construc=on that is externally spliced (as an 8 strand rope, rather than the double- braid splicing method, where the core and the jacket are individually parted and spliced).
This created a unique advantage, as these ropes are the only round surface ropes, suitable for winches, that can be: - Opera=onal on drums - Re- spliced on board
The last 15 years, we have intensively developed synthe=c ropes that can replace wire ropes. KAPA NEEMA KAPA NEEMA PLUS KAPA KORONA PLUS
The above are typical examples of ropes developed from top class raw materials (like DSM Dyneema, Teijin- Twaron etc) that not just perform as wire ropes but are even safer and cost effec=ve!! Those ropes are designed to maintain their technical proper=es for extremely long =me periods.
Our target is to create ropes that: ensure extremely long service life=me (our goal is to meet opera=onal period of 25 years) not just meet, but even exceed the most demanding safety standards respect all environmental requirements
Apart from longevity, Safety remains our priority.
Recently, we have all been concerned about the Zarga accident and many other incidents that have occured during mooring demooring opera=ons. Very oken, if/when a rope breaks the accumulated energy of the tail is causing significant snap back effect to the rope end that faces the pier. The other part of the rope, facing the winch, usually develops reduced snapback.
Having as a primary concern the safety of the crew on board and shore personnel, with our con=nuous research we are trying to eliminate the snap back possibili=es to all direc=ons. For this purpose, we have conducted simula=on tests between a) NON JACKETED 12 strand construc=on UHMPE mooring line and b) JACKETED 12 strand KAPANEEMA PLUS mooring line both connected with cow hitch to a NYLON tail
Please see the following video. Such tests have never been conducted before globally. Through our research we no=ced that there was intense snap back effect when the non- jacketed UHMPE rope failed in rela=on with the KAPA NEEMA PLUS (jacketed sample) With these simula=on tests, we were able to prove the incomparable safety that KAPA NEEMA PLUS and KAPA KORONA PLUS mooring lines offer to the industry.

The KAPA jacket managed to absorb the tail s increased energy and kept the mooring line in one part (prohibited the total par=ng of the rope and the development of snap back effect). We have every reason to believe that a jacketed rope (by our specially designed KAPA braided jacket) offers safer opera=onal condi=ons than any non- jacketed UHMPE mooring line. This does not mean that the danger of snap back has been ex=nguished.
In any case, the crew should always be extremely careful and keep away from any under tension rope, following OCIMF recommenda.ons and relevant ISO standards.
Please see below sketches as guidelines only, showing dangerous zones on- board and points of break. The below are reproduced with permission from The Nau=cal Ins=tute from Mooring and Anchoring Ships vol Last figure is extracted from OCIMF booklet.
