1 Chairperson: Paul Reynolds LEINSTER CRICKET UNION OPEN COMPETITIONS COMMITTEE Hon Secretary: Kevin Gallagher Guide to submitting scorecards for all matches under control of the Open Competitions Committee (Divisions 1-14, all cups and 20 over cups) and Women s Branch (Divisions 1-3, Pilington Plate and all other cups) Only the home team is required to submit the scorecard 1) For 2011 and beyond, there has been a major change in how the details of matches are to be submitted to the LCU. All scorecards will be collated using the CricketStatz program. This guide will help you to install the system, and guide you through how it works. CricketStatz is a Windows only program, so whoever in your club is responsible for sending in match results will need to be able to download software on to a Windows computer. For those running other operating systems, we have put in place alternative please see the Appendix 2) There are two parts to this guide. The second part will deal with how you get the free version of CricketStatz and how you use it. The first part details how you download the LCU database from the LCU website. This database includes all the clubs, teams, players and grounds in the LCU. 3) Each week before you start to enter your club s/team s results, you should get the latest version of the LCU s database. This will contain any changes that clubs have made to their player registration, and will mean that all the players are up-to-date. 4) Navigate to the following page on the LCU website - What happens next depends on the browser you are using (eg Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome etc). The screenshots here show the database for the Open Competitions database. The Women s Database is displayed below the OCC database all other instructions are identica

2 a) Internet Explorer Right Click on the globe visit external site icon. In the resulting menu, click on Save Taget As, and select the location where you wish to save the Database. Remember where you saved it! b) Firefox Left Click on the globe visit external site icon. Select Save File in the pop up box, and save the file to your system

3 c) Chrome - Left Click on the globe visit external site icon. Click on the file name LCU Open 2012 (or LCU Womens 2012 ) in the bottom left hand corner. The file will either open in Cricket Statz, or will invite you to choose which program you wish to open the database with. Select CricketStatz. Anyone using Opera or Safari will have to work it out for themselves! 5) Whilst the database needs to be downloaded every week, CricketStatz only needs to be downloaded once. Navigate to the following link The program should download to your machine automatically

4 6) Find the file on your computer, and double click to install 7) The CricketStatz installer will now begin. Press the Next button that is circled below

5 8) Agree to the terms and conditions, and then press Next again 9) 1. Choose the location to install your version of Cricket Statz. The default option of C:\Program Files\ Cricket Statz should be ok. 2. Press the Install button

6 10) The program should now be installed. Find the Cstatp8 file, and double click to start Cricket Statz 11. You are now ready to enter the scorecard for the played match. Press File and then Open Database

7 12. Find the location of the database that you downloaded from the LCU website earlier (entitled LCU Open 2012 or LCU Womens 2012 ), and open it. 13. You should now see the following screen, with the name of the database LCU Open Competitions 2012 or LCU Womens Competitions 2012 at the top of the window. Now it s time to enter the match scorecard. Press the Matches button as circled

8 14. The following screen will list all the matches you have saved in the database. On the screen it below, it is of course empty. IMPORTANT However, the free version of the software that you have installed, has a limit of ten matches that can be saved. Similarly, when you download the new database the following week, these games will have disappeared. So I d advise that you save the weeks matches, in case of a problem with the , but won t be able to save any more. Press the New button to continue

9 15. You are now presented with the main match scorecard screen. The following index will guide you through the relevant parts of the screen Match type Select 1 innings match or 1 innings match T20 match. The latter will purely be for Alan Murray, Tillain, YM Salver and Whelan Cup matches Played at A list of all the grounds in the province is already in the database. Select the relevant one Grade This is important. Select the competition that the match was played in. Again, all the LCU competitions are already included for your ease Umpires For this season, we are asking that this be included only for Divisions 1-9 and cups Senior Intermediate Scorers Ideally include this, but may not always be available. However is it compulsory for Divisions 1-4 and Cups Senior and Senior 2 to enter this Comment Not needed. If you have any extra comments, they can be added on the LCU website under the match report Match Report URL Similarly, this should be ignored st Batting Team and 2 nd Batting Team These are the names of the teams, Make sure you have them in the correct order, ie team who bats first on the left make sure it is correct! Again all teams are pre-entered. Once you have selected the teams, extra boxes for each team s captain and wicketkeeper will be displayed. Select each player from the names that are already displayed Home team and toss. Self-explanatory. Tick the correct boxes Round not strictly necessary, but for cup competitions, you could enter 1, 2, QF, SF or F for instance The date. Vital that this is correct Innings details. This is where the main details are entered (see below). Once you have selected Match Type as 1 innings, only the Innings 1 boxes can be used Bonus Comp Points Please ignore points allocated will be done externally by the OCC Player of the Match Not needed Match result Select who won the match (or tie, no result). Cricket Statz will calculate the rest (In instances of Duckworth Lewis, you may have to check the Auto Calculate Box )and enter the result yourself

10 16. A completed example of the above window is shown below (I only had YMCA players at hand!). Once all the details are completed, press the Innings 1 button that is circled

11 17. The following screen is where the guts of the scorecard are displayed. You will see three tabs at the top, namely Batting, Fall of Wicket and Bowling (4). Our first task is to enter the batsmen s details. Move to the circle marked (1). Enter each batsman as your scorebook details, and then add how out, the fielder (if applicable), the bowler, the runs scored, and ideally balls faced and boundaries hit (especially for Division 1-4 matches. IMPORTANT If you cannot find a player in the list, it is because either they have been listed incorrectly in the scorebook, or that the club in question have not registered the player. In either case, each club has Unregistered Player in their list. Mark the player as such, and the OCC will deal with the matter once the card is submitted Then move to the extras area (2), where the extras should be entered (including penalty runs). Then go to (3), where the status of the innings should be selected either Closed (ie the over allocation used up), all out, declared or Abandoned. Finally move to the Fall of Wicket tab (4) 18.. You will now see where the fall of wickets should be entered. It should be fairly self explanatory, with batsman out and score at fall to be entered.

12 19. Finally move to the bowling tab. Here the traditional bowling figures will be entered. Move to the large circle at the bottom The enter the bowler, his overs, maidens, runs and wickets (and wides/no balls if recorded) IMPORTANT If you cannot find a player in the list, it is because either they have been listed incorrectly in the scorebook, or that the club in question have not registered the player. In either case, each club has Unregistered Player in their list. Mark the player as such, and the OCC/Women s Branch will deal with the matter once the card is submitted 20. Pressing OK on the above screen will take you back to the main match page (below). However, there will be many checks performed by the program to make sure the scorecard is correct and that everything adds up. Please make sure this is the case before you submit, Press OK on this screen (you can also press Save DB if you wish to temporarily save the match for a week) and you will be returned to the list of matches

13 21. Nearly there! You will now see the match that you have just entered (an internal YMCA match in my example). Press Close to move back to the main screen 22. It is now time to the match to the OCC. Select File, and then Export/ matches

14 23. You will now see a list of matches you have recorded. Select the match (the YMCA internal match here), or by pressing Ctrl and selecting the match, you will be able to make a multiple selection (1). Press , and your client (Outlook, Thunderbird etc) will open up with the relevant.mxp file attached. However if you instead use an internet (eg Gmail, Hotmail etc), then press the export button. This will offer you the option of saving the file. This should be attached in an 24. The last step! Send the to paul.reynolds@leinster.cc (for OCC competitions) or LCUWCC@gmail.com (for Womens Competitions) As long as you have also filled out the result page on the LCU website ( Guide to using the LCU website Part II), the scorecard will appear on the website in the next couple of hours

15 Many, many thanks for taking the time to read this Guide. The steps involved should become easy after a few attempts, and the effort put in by all clubs will make a massive difference in the information that the LCU is able to offer on its website, and in the general administration of the competitions It is hoped that by clubs only having to fill out the matches when they play at home, the burden will be lessened from previous years everyone is a winner. The OCC are not naive enough to think that this will pass completely hassle free. A major problem over the last few seasons has been the lack of completeness in scorebooks. It is hoped that by taking only details from the home team, the away team will take an interest in the scorebook, and captains are encouraged to check with the opposition as to the completeness of the scorecard. It is hoped that both captains will sign the home scorecard to show it is complete. If an away team has problems with the scorecard the home team sends in, but the scorecard is unsigned, they will not have much to stand on! Thanks again. All suggestions are most welcome Paul

16 APPENDIX Computerised scoring systems that are compatible with the LCU s model We are actively encouraging clubs to embrace modern technology, and to use computerised scoring systems. The preferred method is for the home team to use a computerised scorebook, and the away team to use a traditional scorebook in case of technological difficulties However not all systems are compatible with the LCU s system. For a program to be compatible. It must be able to export the scorecard in the.mxp format to CricketStatz. The following can do this (and we hope to add more) Total Cricket Scorer OS Windows (with additional ap on iphone/ipad and Android) Cost STG 60 Other A great all round scoring system. Can be put on a laptop, or used from an iphone/ipad/android running phone (although this must then be transferred to the full system on the PC) Other applications are available, but do not offer the same facilities as TCS.
