Interviewed by Aaron Woodruff In this new club feature I spoke to the Frome Scorer Full Name: Richard John Baker About Cricket and Scoring First match scored: June 1976, Frome 1 st v Bournemouth Best match scored: Frome 1 st away at Ilton in Charlie Smith 123 in Frome s and Ilton were bowled out for under a hundred. Amount of games scored: 1964 (as of !) Best friend in cricket: Everyone at Frome CC! Your Favourite Food: Roast Dinner Drink: Bombardier Sports: Cricket, Football, Rugby and Darts Room 101 What would you put into Room 101? Tennis and Golf! 3 Umpires View Wrote by Bob Beacham WHO IS PROMOTED!? It s the last game of the season. Frome are playing Street, with whom they re level on points at the top of the table. One side to be promoted. Frome bat first and amass 255 for 9 (Stonell 182 n.o. off 77 balls- including 15 sixes). After the 5 th ball of their 50 th over, Street s score is 255 for 9. Craig Dredge is bowling off his long run-up. As Craig is running up to deliver the last ball of the match, the striker advances towards him, the non-striker backs up, and the two complete a run as Craig enters his delivery stride. Craig delivers the ball which is not a no-ball and knocks out middle peg. Playing Subs Please note that Playing Subs are now due and need to be paid by the end of the month to cop the massive 33% discount for prompt payment. 5 Captains Column by Sam Wheeler So two weeks into the season and the club's seniors sides have suffered mixed fortunes. The First Team have started strongly, recorded two victories although in contrasting fashion. A comprehensive victory on the opening day was followed by a nail-biting three wicket victory at the weekend - one that could prove vital come August. Holding our nerve in tight games has become a strong trait of this side, and will no doubt be needed again before the end of the season. The Seconds have fared less well, and despite an impressive bowling display in match one the batting then disappointed as they came up short, before a washout this weekend leaves them searching for their first win. As with the First XI, it is a long season and things can quickly change, and where better to begin that than with a victory at Cranmore on Saturday. I know I and the majority of the First Team are looking forward to a weekend off and the opportunity to lend our support to the 'Twos'. Meanwhile the Third Team have a similar record, having lost one to their opponents and one to the weather, however having been able to select toe sides full of young players have been particularly pleasing, and I look forward to seeing the lads flourish under the leadership of Alex Bleakley and Mark Watts over the coming months. Umpires View- Answer Frome will probably be promoted!!! The score becomes Street 255 for 6. Frome 260 for 6, If batsmen are unfairly trying to steal a run before the ball is delivered the ball becomes dead at the instant they cross and the fielding team are awarded 5 penalty runs. The fact that Craig actually bowled the striker is irrelevant as the ball became dead before he did so. But this also means that there is still the 6th ball of the over to be bowled off which Street MUST now score 6 runs Thanks for reading the May edition of the Frome CC Newsletter!
