1 Issue 4 June 2018 WELCOME TO BEACON CRICKET CLUB First of all it is with deep sadness that Ian Watson passed away on 17 th May after a short illness. Ian was a playing member of Beacon Cricket Club for many years and was a very popular and respected member. His cheerful disposition and sense of humour will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our sincere condolences go to his family and friends. Ian is featured in our nd eleven photograph on page 3. Since our last newsletter both the 1 st and 2 nd teams have done well in their respective leagues. The 1 st team are currently 3 rd in County Division One having won 7 with 3 loses and two games abandoned. Our 2 nd team are top of Division Four West having won 7 with 4 loses and 1 game conceded by St.Gluvius 2nds. In our recent game against Landhydrock the long standing Beacon 10 th wicket record partnership was broken. Dan Eathorne (81*) and Dave Dowling (47) put on a 114 partnership beating the previous 91 by Derek Tonkin (36) and David Hocking (64*) in A valiant effort which made our score look a lot more respectable. The recent Dog Racing night organised by Darren Proctor was a success. Especially for Daniel Mellor and Trina who seemed to have made a nice profit by the end of the evening which was soon spent celebrating! Dates for your Diary 14/07/18 Sponsors & Players Re-Union starting at 7.30pm. 11/08/18 Beach Party night. 03/09/18 All Stars presentation evening. 01 /10/18 Annual General Meeting. We are also holding a Bat Raffle to help raise some much needed funds. There are numbered squares to be sold at 2 each and if you would like to purchase one this can be done at the bar. Please note that we are having a Sponsors and Players Re-Union at the club on Saturday 14 th July commencing at 7.30pm. Please help us to spread the word by contacting as many past players as possible to what we hope will be a very enjoyable evening. Everyone welcome. Yours in cricket The BCC Committee President: Kevin Thomas Chairman: Darren Proctor Hon. Treasurer: David Williams Hon. Secretary: Matt Floyd Website: Facebook: BeaconCCStack Page 1 of 5
2 YOUTH SECTION FROM THIS TO THIS, HOPEFULLY! Our All Stars training sessions held on Monday evenings are becoming increasingly popular with 28 under 9s recently attending. Our qualified coaches are doing a fantastic job in providing enjoyable sessions for the children and parents. There will be an Under 9s Mini Cricket Festival to be held at the Beacon CC on the 15 th July from to Teams competing will be from Beacon, Camborne, Redruth, Hayle, Helston, Newquay and Stithians so please come along and show your support. The Beacon Bulls under 12 team played a very experienced Redruth U12s and Camborne U12s recently in hardball matches and although not winning, there was immense improvement from our newly formed group. Well done to the coaches who are doing a great job in their development. Their match dates can be seen on our fixture section so please come along and give these enthusiastic young members your support. We thank Beacon Fish & Chips for generously sponsoring the Beacon Bulls under 12s cricket shirts. Our team appearance will be much improved and the players are very grateful and proud to wear them. Thank you. Page 2 of 5
