1 Changes to SCNB Competitions 1. Pre-juvenile and Juvenile are now STARSkate events as per Motion adopted by the SCNB Board on June : THAT Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile athletes be considered as part of the STARSkate stream of athletes. The Competitive stream will consist of Pre-Novice to Senior categories in all skating disciplines. To reflect this change, the "Selection of Skating Streams" policy will be updated accordingly. RATIONALE This proposal is being made to better align with LTAD and Skate Canada s qualifying event structure. Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile athletes would be better served from a development standpoint to have their championship competition later in the skating season. Note: This change will impact the following existing policy in the manner shown below: Selection of Skating Streams Policy Competitive skaters who register to compete at SCNB Fall Skate and/or SCNB Sectional Championships in any discipline (Pre-Juvenile Pre-Novice to Senior) are not eligible to compete in any STARSkate category within the same skating season. Competitive skaters wishing to change to the STARSkate stream will only be able to do so at SCNB Spring Skate. STARSkate skaters who wish to move to a Competitive category may do so at any time during the skating season. In doing so, they are no longer eligible to compete in STARSkate categories at all remaining events of the season, including Provincial STARSkate Championships. 2. Star 1 10 and Gold SCNB will adopt Skate Canada STARSkate s new free skate nomenclature (STAR 1 10 and Gold) and implement the new STAR events (STAR 7 and 9, short programs). 3. Element events In order to better align competition categories offered at SCNB competitions with Skate Canada s LTAD model, we will be implementing Element Events at Fall Skate and Sectionals. Aligning our events entails the phasing out of certain categories in the season. Below is the summary for the implementation of the Element Events at SCNB competitions: July

3 4. Refund of entry fees REFUND OF ENTRY FEES: Entry fees shall be refunded only if the event is not held or if the entry is withdrawn before the date of closing of entries. (SC Rule (2)). 5. Planned program sheets Planned Program Content sheets must be ed to the LOC at the latest 7 days prior to the competition start date. There will be a $20 fee charged for failing to submit Planned program by the deadline. Skaters will not be permitted to register at the competition until this fee has been paid and a Planned Program sheet has been submitted. 6. Aligning registration fees Fees have been reviewed and aligned with other events. 7. Removal of Star 2-3 and Pre-intro and intro interpretives from Provincial STARSkate Championships These events are judged against a standard and are not ranked. 8. Coach accreditation For the skating season, Coaches will adhere to the following accreditation policy: SECTIONALS, CHALLENGE COMPETITIONS, REGIONAL SYNCHRONIZED SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS: be NCCP Intermediate STARSkate Provincial Coach (Level 2) certified for Sectionals, Challenge Competitions, Regional Synchronized Skating Championships (qualifying events only). Coaches attending a sectional event with Pre-Juvenile level skaters must be Intermediate STARSkate Provincial Coach (level 2) certified. Coaches attending the Regional Championships with a team in a non-qualifying category must be NCCP Primary STARSkate Coach certified. SECTIONAL/PROVINCIAL STARSKATE and ADULT CHAMPIONSHIPS: be NCCP Primary STARSkate Coach certified for Sectional/Provincial STARSkate and Adult Championships. COMPLETION OF CERTIFICATION: Certification must be completed twenty-one days prior to the start of the event. July

4 NON-QUALIFYING EVENTS: Competitions below Sub Sectional and Sectional Championship level as defined in Rule 4700 are not affected by this policy and are determined by the Section. NEW COACHES: New professional coaches who do not meet the above criteria for accreditation will have two years in which to become NCCP Primary STARSkate certified, three years in which to become NCCP Intermediate STARSkate, Provincial Coach (level 2) certified and four years to become NCCP Level 3 Certified from the date of first registering as a Skate Canada Professional Coach. New coaches (excluding Fast Track candidates) who do not become NCCP Intermediate STARSkate, Provincial Coach (Level 2) certified within three years are not permitted to attend any events requiring NCCP Level 3 certification until they become NCCP Level 3 certified. CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING ACCREDITATION: In order to receive accreditation from the Association at any Sectional championships or higher, Skate Canada professional coaches must be members of the Association and hold a valid First Aid Certificate season Skate Canada received approval from the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) to implement the NCCP National Coach program in conjunction with the 2016 Ice Summit in St. John s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Aligned with Skate Canada s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, coaches will be trained in sport-specific (figure skating) and multi-sport (generic) environments. National Coach Evaluation will be done in a context specific to the level of athlete that is currently being coached from the novice to senior level. Skate Canada values the importance of experiencing the competitive field while achieving a certification. The opportunity to attend competitions prior to becoming certified as a National Coach will be possible for coaches whose athletes compete at Skate Canada qualifying events. Program- 9. Parent accreditation in dressing room To prevent congestion in the dressing room, back-of-house and at ice level, a maximum of one parent/guardian per skater will be accredited and may accompany the skater in the dressing room. 10. Warm-up times Warm-up times may be reduced to 3 min at discretion of tech rep. July

5 11. Renaming Judging system has been renamed to Marking. 12. Exhibitions If only one skater is entered in an event, that skater has the option to compete in the next highest event (whenever possible), skate an exhibition or withdraw from the competition. The LOC will contact the skater and the skater will have 48 hrs to convey their decision back to the LOC and this decision shall be final. If an answer is not received, the category will be cancelled. 13. Deadlines Registration forms that are post-marked on the deadline date will NO LONGER be accepted. As stated in the Information and Logistical Package, registration forms must be in-hand by 4:00 on closing day. July
