1 Solo & Duo Rules / Guidelines: General: Each Dancer must be a member. Dancers are only permitted to dance in one Solo and / or one Duo category during a competition. It is the Choreographer / Dance Teachers and Dancers responsibility to ensure that the Solo and / or Duo is registered before the specified closing date and in correct age division and category as outlined below. Solo and Duo entries for all competitions must be submitted online via the relevant events page no later than 7 days before a regional competition and 14 days before the British, European and World championships. Any changes or questions must be asked or submitted before the date that the registration is due to close. There will be NO late registrations accepted and NO registrations on the day of event! Any queries or questions in regards to Solo and Duos should be communicated to your choreographer / Dance teacher as a first point of contact, they will then contact the UDO if it is something they cannot answer. Age divisions & Category Levels: There are 7 age divisions within the Solo and Duo sections, they are: o Under 6 s o Under 8 s o Under 10 s o Under 12 s o Under 14 s o Under 16 s o Over 16 s (5 years and under) (7 years and under) (9 years and under) (11 years and under) (13 years and under) (15 years and under) (16 years and over) All dancers must be under the ages stated above to compete in that division. The UDO reserve the right to combine and / or reduce age divisions and categories offered depending on entries and competition.

2 Below are the categories offered in Solo and Duos, with the exception of the Under 6 division that is offered at an Open level only. Please note if you are a Dance Teacher and / or professional dancer, then you must compete in Advanced for Solo. If you a Student or assistant Dance teacher then you must compete at a minimum level of Intermediate for Solo. Solos Categories: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. Duos Categories: Beginner/Novice (combined), Intermediate and Advanced. Duos Notes: o If one or both of the dancers already compete in Solos then the duo will dance in the same age division as that of the eldest dancer and the category level can be based on the middle ground between the 2 dancers, i.e if one dancer is as solo dancer in Under 12 Novice and the other dancer is Under 16 Advanced then the Duo is permitted to dance in the Under 16 Intermediate. After this you will need to follow the rules and move depending on your achievements as stated below. o If none of the dancers compete in Solo then the Duo will use the same rules as below. Novice: Dance competition but wish to start at a novice level. beginner level, even if they move up an age division. dancers in their category or they place twice (from 2 nd to 5 th ) with 8 or more in their category. 3 Intermediate: Dance competition but wish to start at an Intermediate level. Novice until they move up an age division, or if they have never been placed within 2 years they can send a request to the UDO committee for consideration. dancers in their category or they place twice (from 2 nd to 5 th ) with 8 or more in their category. Once this is achieved the dancer will move up to Advanced. Advanced: Dance competition but wish to start at an Advanced level. Intermediate until they move up an age division, or if they have never been placed within 2 years they can send a request to the UDO committee for consideration. Advanced heats will run in the same way as all other divisions, on reaching the final each dancer will perform a solo spot of their routine for a maximum of 12 bars (48 beats). On achieving 5 advanced wins with 5 or more dancers or you win Top Advanced dancer at the UDO World Street Dance Championships you will then be permitted to dance in Junior all Stars or senior all stars. The Allstar Categories are only for Solo dancers (Not Duos) they must have qualified by achieving the amount of wins stated below (you cannot just enter this category), they are also only offered at British and World Championships. JUNIOR ALLSTAR To qualify for this division you must achieve 5 wins in the advanced category with 5 or more competitors at a UDO qualifying competition, or you win top advanced dancer at the UDO World Street Dance championships. You must be 15 or under. You will dance a solo spot to your own choice of music for no more than 1 minute 30 seconds.

4 SENIOR ALLSTAR To qualify for this division you must achieve 5 wins in the advanced category with 5 or more competitors at a UDO qualifying competition, or you win top advanced dancer at the UDO World Street Dance Championships. You must be aged 16 or over. You will dance a solo spot to your own choice of music for no more than 1 minute 30 seconds Solo / Duo Dancing Procedure: Dancers will come onto the floor once their age division and category has been announced. Dancers will then be split into heats depending on the amount of dancers in that category and the size of the dance floor / stage. Dancers will dance on the dance floor at the same time as the other dancers in their heat. The judges will walk around the floor and select the dancer numbers they want to recall to the next round. Recalls will be announced by Age division & category and the numbers of the dancers that are successfully through to the next round will be called to the dance floor to dance again. Recalls will continue until we have reached the dancers required for a final (this is usual 5 for a regional event and 7 for British, Europeans and Worlds, however this can vary depending on numbers recalled). The Dancers recalled to the final will now dance again and the judges will place them. Conduct: Dancers cannot touch the judges. Dancers must remain in their permitted floor space whilst dancing. For all heats this is an area of 1.5metres radius from where the dancer takes his / her place on the floor. (Except for Advanced finals where a solo spot will be performed) Outfits and footwear must be age appropriate No inappropriate movement / gestures. Dancers cannot perform acrobatics or any move they are not in full control of, i.e. back flips in early rounds of a competition; such moves are only allowed in a FINAL where there is room on the dance floor.

Judges are pre-advised not to recall anyone that has breached this rules Music: Music will be played at random by the DJ There will be set BPM (Beats per minute) for each category depending on the level you are dancing in, the BPM s are as follows for Solo and Duo music. o Beginner & Novice BPM o Intermediate BPM o Advanced BPM Judging Criteria for Solo & Duo: Judges will be looking for the following: o Musicality (Dancing in time with the music) o Showing a variety of movement & Choreography o Energy, Enthusiasm and Confidence o Uniqueness & Interpretation In addition to the above for Duos the Judges will also look at: o Synchronicity (Mirror Image) o Connection (Choreography complimenting each other)
