2 The U DO IT! National Schools Dance Championships offer a fantastic opportunity for dancers from academic schools to showcase their talent through platforms they may not have had access to previously. Dancers are encouraged to participate in workshops with a framework that promotes realistic and measurable goals, from a wide range of dance styles taught by industry professionals. The National Schools Dance Championships has been successfully delivered to schools across the UK since 2011 by our partner, United Dance Organisation. As the world leaders in streetdance, they provide over 15 years of expertise and knowledge in the field. The Championships are presented by U DO IT! Dance Foundation, a charity that works in partnership with Sport Wales, Sport England, EMD UK, and Youth Sports Trust to provide all-inclusive dance programmes to children and young people of all ages and backgrounds across the UK. The Championships are aligned with, and representative of, U DO IT! Dance Foundation s mission and objectives. Recognising that dancers and potential dancers from both primary and secondary education do not have as many opportunities to express themselves and/or compete. This pack will provide you with all the information you need to get involved! We look forward to seeing you at National Schools Dance Championships. Why attend? The National Schools Dance Championships include: Streetdance All Style (Jazz, Musical Theatre, Ballet, Cheer, Contemporary) All academic schools can enter this event and compete in one or both categories. The event attracts dancers from schools in England, Scotland and Wales. Dancers will be able to attain trophies, medals and certificates, earning rewards for their achievements whilst having a great day experiencing competing and watching other dancers from across the country. Our work with EMD UK and Youth Sport Trust, to secure dance as being part of the School Games Offer, means that this national event makes for a great pathway from Level 2 3 events in your area or county.

3 The day will consist of: Group Competition Workshops (in various styles) Awards Ceremony Past judges have included world renowned streetdancer Lizzie Gough who appeared on BBC s So You Think You Can Dance and, more recently as a choreographer on ITV s Dance, Dance, Dance. Others include celebrity dance crew Flawless, Corey from Boyband, and the amazing Shannon and Peter who appeared on ITV s Britain s Got Talent and Sky TV s Got To Dance. The event is held during the school day, so we would ask that Head Teachers allow pupils to participate and represent their school at this National event. We can provide written letters, if required, to confirm attendance. To ensure a fair and level competition, only dancers from academic schools are permitted to enter the Championships; any entrants from dedicated dance schools are prohibited, although other opportunities are available through events delivered by our partner, United Dance Organisation. U DO IT! not only provides a final event for your school, but are also on hand throughout the year to assist and encourage dance provision and participation at your school. We are able to provide tailored workshops to suit your dancers needs. As a participant of The National Schools program your students and teachers can also benefit from our vast resource of professional advice and expertise. How to get involved RECRUIT YOUR DANCERS: Sign up your teams and reserve dancer and spectator tickets for FREE on the UDOIT website. READ THE RULES: Don t be afraid to ask. We must have rules to ensure the day is fair, however, we also want to encourage participation and an enjoyable day for all. Please contact us if you have any queries. ASSEMBLE EACH TEAM: The event is open to Years 3 6 from primary education and Years 7 13 from secondary education. These are split into 3 categories, which can be found on page 8.

4 BEGIN YOUR REHEARSALS: We actively encourage pupils to choreograph their own routines to demonstrate their own abilities and work as part of a team. However, we also have expert advice available should you require any assistance. TALK TO US: Don t be shy. We re here to help you through every step of this process, and we want each person involved to receive the maximum enjoyment and satisfaction from the event. The Rules Dancer Registration: Each team will need to complete a team registration form, which includes dancer information, this can be found at via the National Schools page. Each team MUST be named. We would encourage creativity rather than the name of the school. IMPORTANT: Each team will need a dedicated member of staff to supervise on the day the details for this person must be included on the registration form. Group Rules Teams will be split into three age categories: PRIMARY: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 JUNIORS: Years 7 9 SENIORS: Years / College students Each school can enter one team per category to ensure that we can get more schools represented at the event. For example: Primary 1 x Street and 1 x All Style Junior 1 x Street and 1 x All style Senior 1x Street and 1 x All Style

5 If you would want to enter more teams per category, please get in touch with us as, if we have enough space, we will let you know. A group must consist of no less than 4, and no more than 24 dancers. All dancers in a group MUST be from the same school. A group must compete in the age category of the majority of the dancers, i.e. if there are 6 dancers in a group and 4 of them are Year 11, one Year 8 and one Year 7, then they must dance in Category 3: Years The length of the routine can be no longer than 2 minutes 30 seconds. The music can be a mixture of more than one track. Inappropriate language is not permitted in your recorded music. Music can be brought in on a USB memory stick / CD / ipod / ipad. Bring a back-up of music in case we have any technical issues. Acrobatic moves may be used if you wish but, if deemed to be unsafe, groups will be penalised. A dancer cannot compete in more than one group of the same category, i.e. a dancer cannot dance in two streetdance groups, Props may be used, but must be safe and dancers must be in control when using them. Costumes are optional please note that you will be judged purely on your dance, choreography, and performance. Age appropriate clothing is essential. Age appropriate movements are essential.
