Will it be a success or a flop? It can be said that this first show, sponsored by FFC Member John Lendell, proprietor of the Devil Dog Military Depot at the Gunn Highway Flea Market, was a definite success to say the least. Nineteen vehicles showed up for display and over a dozen vendors came out to sell their wares. In addition, there was an array of military re-enactors, from the Civil War period to the Vietnam Era, on hand to add to the flavor of the show. John presented all participants with a nice memento of the occasion consisting of a cast metal trophy depicting a soldier standing in front of the American Flag. Very impressive. The second annual Devil Dog Military Show is coming up on 7 March of If last years show is any indication, the 2009 show should be a winner. Show your support of this show by bringing your vehicle for display. If you don't have a vehicle ready to display come anyway and enjoy a day out. You might even find some goodies in John's shop or in the flea market. 3 MINUTES TO THE 4TH QUARTER GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF THE FIRST FLORIDA CHAPTER, MVPA, 25 OCTOBER 2008 HELD AT FRED PERKINS' RESIDENCE & SHOPS, FT. LAUDERDALE, FL., SE REGION The meeting was called to order by President Dick Deren following lunch. The following Members & Guests were in attendance: Lance & Bradlee Jeffrey, Dave Bradley, Albert Quiroga, Charles Urig Jr., Frank Baltra, Dick & Diane Deren, Ralph Chambers, John Kessler, Mark Norman, Jim Ameen, Jason Shuch, Pete Johnston, Bob Neely, Karl Kahn, Gary Kaufman, Chris Chambers, Manuel Alonso, Artie Metzler, Fred Perkins, Cameron Perkins, Deborah Perkins, Toby Perkins, Willie Rigueloq & Dirk Hilyard. The opening prayer was given by Bob Neely & the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jim Ameen. A motion made by Fred Perkins & seconded by Charles Urig to accept the minutes of the last meeting as posted in the newsletter was passed. Officer's Reports: President - Dick Deren welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked Fred Perkins and the Members of the Southeastern Region for hosting the meeting and serving up a great meal. Dick advised that starting in 2009, we would conduct 6 meetings a year instead of 4. This would enable a more diversified series of locations allowing more Members the opportunity to attend a meeting. The next meeting will be on 10 Jan 2009 at Spence & Sheri MacKenzie's Tactical Supply in Brooksville. The March/April meeting will be at Russell Deese Shops, Cairo, Ga. Dick reported that a number of Members visited Evelyn Byers recently to present her with a check from the Club & donations from Members to help her overcome any medical expenses that may crop up resulting from Earle's illnesses. Dick also mentioned that the Victory Forge School recently had their M35 vandalized and literally trashed. He advised that he would entertain a motion under new business to donate money to help them obtain another M35. Dick further elaborated on the responsibility of the Regional Coordinators to see that articles and photos about local activities are submited to the newsletter editor. This is the only way the members find out what is going on in other parts of the state. Information about what other regions are doing, creates interest and encourages additional activity within the club. Lastly, Dick mentioned plans to change the size and design of the ID badges. Frank Baltra has come up with several new designs one of which will be selelcted and initiated in the future. Vice President - No report. 4 Newsletter Editor - Frank Baltra reported that he needs articles and photos for the newsletter. Photos for the History Page about yourself or a relative in military service are also requested. "How To" articles will also be published. Also if you aquire a new vehicle, send a picture in for the newsletter. Public Relations - No report. On Line Activity Administrator - Diane Deren reports that she receives about 20 rejects every time the schedule goes out. If you have and are not receiving the schedule, contact her via at d-deren@tampabay.rr.com. She also has a list for those who also want WANT ADS and FOR SALE ADS. You can be put on one or both lists. Central Region Coordinator - Dick Deren reported for Charles Hildebrant - Charlie is looking into having a trail ride activity in the Ocala Forest sometime next year. He has been in contact with the Park Rangers about getting permission to use some of the trails in the park. Northern Region Coordinator - No report. Panhandle Region Coordinator - No report. Western Region Coordinator - Dick Deren reporting for George Hecht - the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall will be at the Bright House Ball Field, Clearwater at the end of October. Member, John Piazza, had the grand opening of his museum in August. It was a great success. FFC was there with 12 vehicles. We thank John for inviting the FFC to take part in the open house. George is looking into having one of our meetings at the museum. SW Region Coordinator - No report. Eastern Region Coordinator - No report. SE Region coordinator - Fred Perkins reported upcoming events in the Region which include Miami Lakes Parade on 9 Novr, John Williams Park WWII display & re-enactment on Nov. Also Monster Truck display in Hollywood the same week end. Sand In Your Boots on 6-7 Dec, Ty Park -Touch - A -Truck on 25 Jan. As always the SE Region meets most every Friday evening at the Tower Shops. Fred also thanked the Members who came over early to help get ready for the meeting. Committee Reports T-Shirt Committee - Diane Deren, reporting for Peggy Keller, advised that she has shirts & hats here today for sale, including the new TD shirts. Dick Deren added that we were working on providing golf shirts with an embroidered logo on the pocket. Karl Kahn offered to obtain a price from his contact. Dick will forward him a copy on the updated logo. Rally Committee - Dick Deren reported on the Rally for Charles Craven. Fred Perkins provided a list of suggestions submitted by Steve Irving, to be forwarded to the Rally committee & discussed at the next committee meeting. We will be setting up a free flea market space in the big tent for Members who have a few things to sell but not enough to warrant renting a space. Friday night there will be a participant & vendor appreciation cook out. The Marine Corps League Detachment of Holiday, FL will also be on hand with another MASH BASH. A Page 34

5 twilight trail ride is also planned for Friday evening. Old Business - Nothing to report New Business Club liability insurance - although we are on the MVPA Group Plan, the Treasurer feels that we should retain our own policy, which we have had over the past years, just in case something should happen to the MVPA policy. This would insure that we have uninterupted coverage which we may not be able to obtain if we had to start all over again. A motion was passed to accept the Treasurer's recommendation to keep our policy with J.C. Taylor. Donation to Victory Forge School - Dick Deren suggested that the Club donate $1000 to the Victory Forge School to help them obtain another M35 to replace the one that was vandalized. Fred Perkins suggested we hold off until he could talk to the school about a possible trade. Fred has several M35's that are good runners but need cosmetic work done. The Club could put up the cash for the paint and materials needed for the school to fix up one of the trucks. No action was taken. In the mean time, the hat was passed around and $98 was collected from the membership for the Victory Forge truck fund. For the good of the Club Troop Fund Raiser - Diane Deren requested donations for her Fund Raiser Program to provide skin care products for the Troops. With donations received from FFC Members, Wash Area Chapter Members, the MVPA, other MVPA Members, the Korean War Veterans Assoc. of Pinellas Park, the Nature Coast Military Museum, The Central Florida WWII Museum and other Friends and family members. She has been able to send packages over to the 530th Signal Company, U.S. Army, via Capt. Michael Avenick, Diane's Nephew, the 1st Bn / 3rd ID, U.S. Army, via Sgt. Mike Morton, U.S. Air Force personnel via Sgt. Tom Showers, Diane's Cousin and the 101st AB via FFC Member Pvt. Stevan Hollahan, 101st AB,. Members only area in the FFC website - Frank Baltra questioned the need to have the newsletter contained in the Members only area of the Website. He feels that it would be advantagous to have the newsletter available to anyone who accessed our site. This would give visitors to the web site a good idea of what we are doing and encourage new memberships. Dick Deren feels that the newsletter is a membership perk and should only be available to members. Frank suggested a survey of members via a questionaire in the newsletter to get their opinion. Saluting the flag - Frank Baltra reported that Veterans who are not in uniform are now given the option of saluting the flag or placing their hand over their heart when doing so is appropriate(i.e. - As the flag passes in review, raising and lowering of the flag, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem). 7 NON-PROFIT ADVERTISEMENT I am holding a fund raiser to send moisturizing and skin care products to the troops. Since I am a consultant with Arbonne, I can buy wholesale. In talking to a soldier who just got back from Iraq, he said there is a great need for moisturizers because of the climate. I've gotten many donations, and have already sent 8 boxes packed full to Afghanistan and to Iraq. I've received notes from some soldiers in Iraq and in Afghanistan letting me know the products arrived, and are much appreciated. I would like to send many more Skin Care Packages. 8 EDITORIALS AND LETTERS From the Editor Happy Holidays everyone, hope your having a good holiday season. Well this has been a very busy time of the year for the club and the re-en actors. And the year is not over yet. Make sure you have your due's up to date. It's been a very busy year for the newsletter also, with all the events that have been completed and more to do, I hope there's enough room for the finish of this one. The For Sale page has been getting larger as the year go's on and the After Action reports are coming in kind of steady. I believe this is the largest issue yet. With the fire at my place it was a blessing that the hard drive of my burnt out puter survived and it's contents recovered. (This is why some of the ad's where missing in a few issue's). At the moment I am writing this Editorial from Bensalem Pa. Where I'm freezing my butt off, with a wind chill of seventeen degree's. It was a shame that Victory Forge lost their duce, but it seems they purchased three for the price of one (They still have to pay for them), so let's give them a hand in doing so. On my way up to Pennsylvania, I stopped in at Fort Rucker for the Graduation from flight school of the former Ex Officer of Victory Forge (WO1Travis Plummer), who's next Duty Station is Fort Drum NY. I will try to get some photos of it before I let this issue go out. I have also been invited to do a parade in Ambler Pa on the 6th of December with the Greater Pennsylvania Military Vehicle Historical Society and I hope to start back to warmer clime's shortly there after. Active duty club member and Combat Vet Staff Sargent Paul Ramos has won the Glen E. Morrell award (the highest any recruiter can earn) and the Recruiting Ring. It was requested at the last meeting to survey the membership, to find out if it was a good idea to take the password off of the newsletter on our web page. My own opinion is yes. This will let other potential member's see what we are all about and increase the membership, I also believe it will increase advertising because the advertiser's would have a bigger audience, what do you think?
