By Frankie LaMarca Happy New Year! I hope the holiday filled you with hope and anticipation of a bright new year. You may be thinking of resolutions. Will you resolve to acquire your NYS pistol permit? To make your home a safer place? To learn to shoot? To improve your shooting skills? Will you learn to be more aware of your surroundings? To learn more about firearms? To learn more about the NRA than you may hear in the media? To find somewhere and someone to help you learn a new skill? To find yourself? To discover something about yourself that your never dreamed was possible? To lose the ten-pound result of yummy cookies? Maybe we can help. The Well Armed Woman may be such an organization to help you achieve many of your New Year s resolutions. I have great plans for our chapter. Our very first meeting in May will be free, and will focus on introducing The Well Armed Woman organization, our chapter leaders, and our plan for the 2018 shooting season. For those of you who say, I d like to get my pistol permit, I ll have part of the meeting dedicated to my class, Pathways to Firearm Ownership in NYS. You must have your NYS permit to actively participate in the shooting portion of our meetings. But, you can still be a part of the classroom learning and observation. So, grab a friend and let s check that off our list. If you would like to join The Well Armed- Woman, Ontar io Chapter, find us as The membership is good for one year, provides insurance for all The Well Armed Woman authorized chapter activities, is tax deductible and is only $ Or you can questions to me twawontariony@gmail.com Or contact me at Blessings for a new year of prosperity, abundance, happiness and optimism.

2 PAGE 2 JANUARY 2018 The Scatter Sheet ONTARIO ROD & GUN CLUB HAS A NEW PRACTICE ARCHERY RANGE Attention archers! The club now offers practice with your bow. We have three freestanding shooting bags placed at 20, 30, and 40 yards for you to practice your archery skills. We also have a life-size buck target placed at 20 yards. You may move the deer target to any of the other yardages. Dear hunters, take note, we also have a 15 foot ladder stand from which to shoot. You can shout 20 yards to 40 yards. When shooting from the ladder stand you must wear a safety tree stand harness! There will be a harness in the mailbox for you to use, or you can bring your own. If you are caught shooting from the ladder stand without a harness on you will be asked to leave the first time and then after that you will not be allowed to use the range. The use of broad heads on ORGC targets is not allowed!!! If you are caught shooting broad heads into RGC targets you will be required to buy new targets! If you wish to use Broadhead's on the practice range you may bring your own targets into which you may shoot Broadhead's. Otherwise Broadhead's are strictly forbidden for use into ORGC targets. The archery practice range is located off the east driveway just past the East trap house. Look for the red wooden arrow and red marking tape in the trees. There is a stand with tubes to hold your bow and arrows. The archery practice range for ORGC members and guests is due to the efforts and hard work of Doug & Sharon Trumpowsky. Thank you Doug & Sharon! RANGE ORIENTATION All new club members in order to use the rifle and pistol ranges you must have attended and have passed the RANGE ORIEN- TATION. To register for the next Range Orientation class to be conducted on JANUARY 20 th ;you will need to contact range coordinator - Gary Partridge (585) or Bill Palermo (585) or Steve Verdi (585) for any questions you may have. The Range Orientation begins at 9 AM in the clubhouse and will run to about noon time depending on the number of participants. Try to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to find a seat. You may want to bring pencil and paper to be able to take notes. When attending the Range Orientation, you will need to have eye and ear protection for the range exercise. If you plan on using rifles, pistols, and shotguns with slugs, all firearms need to be in some type of a case, be it a hard case, a soft case, or a sock. All firearms must be unloaded and the action open at all times unless you are on the firing line actually shooting. You will need five rounds of ammunition for each firearm you bring to the orientation. All firearms and ammunition are to be locked in your vehicle until instructed to retrieve them. THE NEWSLETTERT WILL NO LONGER BE MAILED Attention all club members who do not have an address. Beginning in February the Ontario Rod and Gun Club newsletter will no longer be mailed via the United States Postal Service to those members who have not provided a valid address.
