1 The President s Corner by Mickey Breunig, President - LMAC I hope everyone has been able to enjoy some of the nice weather we have been having and were able to take advantage of it for a few good flying days. We have a few busy months coming up for the club. The club picnic is coming up before the next meeting and the trainer banger competition will be held the same day as our August meeting. The club picnic is always a lot of fun for our members, families, and guests. It is important to have a nice representation of food at the picnic. The club always provides the meats for our lunch at the picnic, but it is very important for all the members to bring a side dish. Jim Newberry is organizing the picnic this year and will let us know what types of side dishes are needed for the picnic. Please pay attention to s and help Jim coordinate the food for the picnic. The Trainer Banger competition should be a lot of fun. I know several people who are scrambling to find a trainer for the competition, I am trying to get one together myself. If you don t have one or have access to borrow one, there should be a few there that you can use for the day. This should be a fun, not too serious competition that will be talked about for several months. I hope to see everyone at the field for some good flying days. 2 Minutes of June 17, 2017 Club Meeting by Mickey Breunig The club meeting was held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at LMAC Airfield, 4200 Hedger Lane, Lexington, KY. Club meeting was brought to order at 11:15AM by Mickey Breunig A motion was made by Mickey Breunig to approve the minutes of the May meeting. The motion was 2nd by Dan Thompson and approved by vote. The Treasures Report was given by Carroll Ware. Dan Thompson made the motion to approve the report. The motion was 2nd by Curtis Adams and approved by vote. Old Business Club Picnic - Jim Newberry gave a summary of the progress for the club picnic. Terry Booth will be cooking and we are looking for an assistant cook. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish to the picnic. Trainer Banger Competition - The Trainer Banger Competition will be held August 12th with the meeting on the same Saturday. We will have the meeting after the first round of competition. Fall Classic - Curtis Adams informed us that Channel 18 News will not be able to help and we are trying to get another news outlet to cover it. Vintage Fly-in - Thursday was a rainout but Friday was nice weather and good flying. The club should receive approximately $295 from the fly-in. New Business We are spending a little more on the lunches at the meetings and the club was asked to approve the additional spending. Mickey Breunig made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:45. The motion was 2nd by P. J. Ash and approved. 2

4 Lee Wright won the Model of the Month with his J-3 at the June Club meeting. The plane was built from a Great Planes kit and is powered by a Maximum.61 engine with a Top Flite incowl muffler. It is covered with Century 21 fabric and the dry weight is 14 lbs. The wing span per plans is 90 inches, but was built as a 83 inch clipped wing. Lee built the J-3 in Florida during the past two winters, and was brought tolexington this spring. It has not been flown. Congratulations tolee Wright onwinning the Coyote Hobbies gift certificate! 4

9 Blast from the Past by David Price This series of articles will present advertisements from vintage modeling magazines. The intent is to illustrate technological advances that have taken place in our hobby. For some, it will bring back memories, for newcomers it will present a piece of history of radio control model aviation. Here is an advertisement from the August 1959 issue of Model Airplane News for the Astrodyne ducted fan impeller. Looks like a cooling fan blade to me. Ducted fans have sure improved since this advertisement. 9

10 Tuesday Afternoon Flying at LMAC Airfield by David Price Hey working stiffs, can t make it to the Tuesday s morning Over the Hill group, weekends are tied up with chores/errands/projects, not sure someone is at the field come out Tuesday afternoons and fly with me. Tuesdays have normally been reserved for training, but our current training load is very light (training will continue, if needed) and the flying field has been very lonely. I plan on being at the field every Tuesday around 5:00PM and fly until dark. Bring anything to fly (planes, drones, helicopters, U/C, FF). Don t want to fly, come out and chat.
