Australian Rules Football is commonly called Aussie rules or simply footy. It is a sport played between two teams of 22 players (18 on the field, and 4 interchanges) with an oval-shaped ball on a large oval-shaped field. Australian football is a major participation sport and spectator sport in Australia. 3. During the game, players may position themselves anywhere on the field. They can use any part of their body to move the ball. The most common methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. 4. The length of a game is 80 minutes divided into four 20 minute quarters. However, like basketball, the time is stopped each time the ball is out of play.
