Crowley Park Saturday 30 April 2016 K.O. 12:45 PM Cork Constitution and Galwegians, go head to head in Saturday's All Ireland Bateman Cup Final in Galway. Galwegians have home advantage as the venue for the final was decided by a coin toss between the two clubs overseen by Greg Barrett who lost the toss to call the toss. The Bateman Cup is one of Irish rugby's oldest competitions, first introduced in 1922 by Dr. Godfrey Bateman from West Cork who presented the trophy to the IRFU to honour his sons Reginald and Arthur who both died in the First World War. Constitution played in the first final in 1922, losing out 6-5 to Lansdowne. Galwegians were the first Connacht club to reach the finals in 1929, they also lost to Lansdowne. Cork Constitution are seeking to add to the story of the illustrious trophy by winning it for the fourth year in-a-row and will be hoping that their greater All-Ireland Cup experience will prove crucial. Last season, a late try from Darren Sweetnam set Constitution on their way to a 24-9 victory over Clontarf. Constitution reached the final with a 0-24 semi-final dismissal of a weakened U.C.D. at Belfield. In the other Semi-final Galwegians made history by becoming the first Connacht club to qualify for the Bateman Cup final since UCG in 1936 when they won a thrilling nine-try contest against Ballynahinch at Crowley Park. Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup Final Young Munster v Cork Constitution Irish Independent Park Sunday 1 St May 2016 Kick-off 2.30pm The final of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup Final goes ahead on Sunday at Irish Independent Park with Constitution aiming to win their 19 Th Junior Cup. Last week in a thriller in Temple Hill against Richmond, Cork Constitution booked their place in the final after a dramatic extra time victory. Just like their quarter final game in the Cup away to Galbally, Constitution scored a last minute try by Jason Higgins which John Poland converted to level and send the game into extra time. Richmond enjoyed the better of the exchanges in extra time but a penalty in each period by Poland decided the outcome. Young Munster defeated Bandon 19-7 at Tom Clifford Park to reach the final and will be looking for their eight title with their last success back in Constitution are seeking a Munster Junior season double, having already won the Munster Seconds League. Constitution's last won the Munster Junior Cup title back in 2012 when captained by Peter O Sullivan they defeated Skibbereen Best wishes to Sonny Dwyer and his team. The two sides last met a fortnight ago when Galwegians suffered automatic relegation at the hands of Constitution as they leaked two late tries in a tense defeat at Temple Hill. 2 Golf Am AM The annual Cork Constitution AM AM was held on Friday 22 April 2016 at the prestigious Douglas Golf Club was a great event and greatly enjoyed by everyone who participated. The inclement weather on the day divided the 32 teams who started into two distinct groups. The early starters played in a steady downpour with very testing playing conditions which impacted on scoring. The afternoon starters enjoyed much better playing conditions and as darkness fell the early starters were knocked off the prize winners list by a succession of better scores. That evening after a superb meal Senior Vice President Jerry Holland welcomed everyone to the prize giving. Jerry thanked all of the teams who played or sponsored tees and greens. He had a special word of thanks to Michael Galvin of National Business Machines who sponsored the fabulous array of prizes. Jerry stated that the annual AM AM was a very significant fund raiser for the club and the organising committee of Conor Clune, Ralph Keyes, Declan McGinn, Jessica Mullins, Colm Murphy and tournament chairman Don Mullins, deserved great credit for bringing the whole day together in such a fabulous way, their attention to detail was fantastic. Presenting the winning team of Declan McGinn, Daragh McGinn and Hugh O Neill with their prizes, Michael Galvin of National Business Machines stated that they were delighted to be main sponsors of the Cork Constitution AM AM and he wished Jerry and the club the best of luck for the Ulster Bank Semi-final on Saturday and the Bateman Cup Final. L a d i e s Team : Fabienne Moloney, Paula Whitney, Una Scally Jerry went on the thank Douglas Golf Club for the great condition of the course and especially the greens which everyone he had spoken to had said they were the fastest greens they had played on all year, no doubt the Douglas Senior Cup scheduled for the following day had a lot to do with this. Jerry also thanked Conor Clune who looked after the cards and made sure that the time sheet ran smoothly. Accepting first prize Ashford Catering team captain Declan McGinn thanked Michael Galvin for the stunning prizes, Don Mullins for arranging the Am Am, Douglas Golf Club for the condition of the course and the caterers who had served everyone a fantastic meal. Paul Derham presented the Liam Pepper Hurley memorial trophy to Declan. Page 2

Juvenile Rugby Juvenile Director of Rugby Letter to U 13 s April 2016 Boys and Parents, This is a poignant time of the year as we prepare to say goodbye to some of our players for a few years as we 'loan' them to the rugby schools. Roughly a third of our U13 squad will continue to play rugby in Con and hopefully compete for Munster trophies at under 14, 16 and 18 level. The balance will go to CBC and PBC, on-loan for a few years. We expect to see you all back here again for U20 rugby in a short seven years time! This is YOUR club now. For life. You have all come a long way since, as six and seven year-olds, you started playing here in Con in the 2009/2010 season. Remember the old clubhouse? If there is one message I would like to leave you with, it is this: please, please continue to play rugby and continue to enjoy this great sport. The benefits of playing are obvious and well understood: improving physical health, strengthening of character and building of friendships for life. So my question to you is this: are you going to be one of the guys who re-joins his U13 teammates and together wins the Fraser McMullen All-Ireland U20 trophy with Con in the 2022/23 season? Are you one of the guys who will go the whole way and make a career out of rugby? Will you play senior for Con and win a Bateman Cup? Will you play for Munster? Ireland? The Lions? Will all the others in the group say "I played with him at under age... And I dumped him on his ass in the final of the Fred Casey tournament!!" The only thing I can say with complete certainty is that, as of today, nobody knows who those guys will be. NOBODY. Ask Peter O'Mahony, ask Simon Zebo, ask Doug Howlett, ask ROG, ask Fred Casey... It's not the most talented that make it; it's the ones with the greatest perseverance. So if you are ever in a situation over the next few years where you are contemplating giving up rugby... DON'T. Put in another week, another training session, one more season. Because you could be the guy who wears the Lions jersey on behalf of this years U-13 squad. Street League Finals day Rugby from 9.30 to 12.30pm. Once all the Rugby is finished at 12.30pm we start our fun activities on the main pitch which all the coaches will be involved in. All donations from the Cork Constitution Family Day will go towards improving, upgrading and refurbishing the new Children s Unit at CUH. On an annual basis, over 30,000 children attend the Children s Unit at CUH. Cork University Hospital is a specialist centre for children with a range of illnesses including Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes and Epilepsy to name a few. CUH Charity s aim is to raise a total of 1,500,000 to refurbish In-patient facilities in the Children s Unit and upgrade facilities that were first built in the 1970s. The Charity hopes to replace the current outdated Children s Unit with a state-of-the-art facility to meet the medical and surgical needs for the children of the Greater Munster region and incorporate Paediatric Services in one single unit. CUH Charity s goal is to transform our hospital into a single centre of excellence for Munster and give all children the services and care they truly deserve. His friend remarked that he had gone to the same dentist a few years before. "Is that so?" the first said. "Did he do a good job?" "Well, I was on the course yesterday when the fellow on the ninth hole hooked a shot," he said. "The ball must have been going 200 mph when it hit me in the stomach. That," he added, "was the first time in two years my teeth didn't hurt."
