R Level 3 Home Economics, Discuss the effects of globalisation on food choices in New Zealand 2.00 pm Wednesday 14 November 2012 Credits: Five RESOURCE BOOKLET Refer to this booklet to answer Question One in Home Economics Check that this booklet has pages 2 6 in the correct order and that none of these pages is blank. YOU MAY KEEP THIS BOOKLET AT THE END OF THE EXAMINATION. New Zealand Qualifications Authority, All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced by any means without the prior permission of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
2 Resource A New Zealand Omega 3 Intake Do Kiwis eat enough Omega 3? Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI): RDI varies over the range mg per day For copyright reasons, these resources cannot be reproduced here. In New Zealand: 50 per cent of people will eat fish once a month.
3 Resource B Aquaculture A cash cow or gutted marine habitat? What is happening? A new law change has occurred, allowing more marine farms to be established. Resource C How to Buy Fish with a Better Conscience A guide for sustainable fish shopping based on Gareth Morgan and Geoff Simmons book, Hook, Line and Blinkers A brief synopsis For copyright reasons, this resource cannot be reproduced here. The authors of Hook, Line, and Blinkers, Gareth Morgan and Geoff Simmons, pose questions in regard to eating fish, related to both local and global fishing practices. A considerable number of new jobs would be created. For copyright reasons, this resource cannot be reproduced here. This way we won t run out, and the fish will restore their stocks, making them easier to catch.
4 Resource D Best Guide to Sustainable Seafood Simply ask: is it from New Zealand? Under New Zealand s world-leading fisheries management regime, the Quota Management System (QMS), there s no need to guess or ponder what fish is sustainable. For copyright reasons, these resources cannot be reproduced here. This informative, wallet-size card, is a must have when doing your weekly shop, or visiting your local fish retailer.
5 Resource E Best Fish Guide All fishing has an impact For copyright reasons, these resources cannot be reproduced here. Making the best seafood choice is not easy, however the Best Fish Guide helps you make more informed choices when buying seafood by ranking the ecological sustainability of seafood from our commercial fisheries. This comprehensive guide takes into account the state of fish stocks, the amount of seabird, marine mammal and nontarget fish by-catch, the damage done to marine habitats, and other ecological effects caused by the fishing to decide on it s rating. For copyright reasons, this resource cannot be reproduced here.
