1 Volume 34, Issue 2 February 2017 Prez Sez I would like to start by wishing you a very Happy New Year and hope 2017 is filled with plenty of fishing memories. During the winter months, I often spend time reflecting on the preceding season. I love to reflect on the fish caught. One memory that stands out was fish caught during my annual week-long trip to Canada. I took a friend out whose partner was ill. He had not caught a fish yet, so my goal was to make a memory. It was almost poetic when he hooked one at boat side. The problem was I caught his bait on the rim of the net. I looked down in horror as the fish was swimming outside the net and the knowledge that if I tried to flip the net it meant fish gone. My brother quickly ordered me to bring the fish back toward him as he reached down and flipped the fish into the net from behind. We laughed all night telling the story and my friend was ear to ear grin. I also spend time thinking about fish lost or missed. I sometimes anguish over my lack of a good figure eight, hook sets, lure choices, boat control, etc. which contributed to my ineptness. The wonderful thing about belonging to CCMI is that we have a remedy. Our annual musky school is a great opportunity to take notes with some of the best sticks around. The school is offering a class on using your electronics that I hope to attend. I also enjoy attending shows. I am planning on attending the Milwaukee show and the Wisconsin Fishing Expo. Come see our booth at the Wisconsin Musky Expo for chance to win a ranger boat and to score some gently used baits. In April, the club has our annual fund raiser. Our monthly meetings offer another great chance to learn. Attending these types of events and reflecting on the previous year make the winter months go by quickly and serve as a way of preparing for the upcoming season. As always, see our website or the newsletter for upcoming events and to sign up for the school. Finally, GO make some memories. Winston Hopkins - President CCMI February General Meeting The next general member meeting will be February 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the 5100 Bar in McFarland, WI. The February meeting is our annual awards meeting. Who was able to fish up a Hat Trick this year? Whose big muskie will win them a reproduction? Join us in recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of our members and their catches. Information on all CCMI contests can be found here: mi-member-contests/ General Meetings are open to all! Come early to enjoy a great dinner at the Muskie Ink Page 1 2/3/2017
2 Release Report Nick Pierick- Release Chairman / npierick@yahoo.com / (608) Another great season is in the books! I have tallied up the catches, awards have been calculated, and they are in process now. The awards ceremony will take place at the next monthly membership meeting on February 13th. Come on out to celebrate our fellow anglers, some great photos, and check out the latest stats. I will post a full re-cap of the awards in next month s release report. During their 1 ½ day trip, they caught several trophy walleyes and 7 muskies on their spinning rods. Link - Link - Muskie Ink Page 2 2/3/2017

8 CCMI at upcoming muskie/fishing expos Capital City Muskies Inc will have booths at three of the upcoming muskie and fishing expos. We had a booth at the Southern Wisconsin Fishing Expo in Waukesha the last weekend in January. We introduced ourselves to many of the attendees and had a lot of interest in the upcoming muskie school and fundraiser. This year our chapter was offered the opportunity to have a booth at the Milwaukee Muskie Expo February We will be there meeting more muskie anglers and getting the word out about our upcoming events. February we will be at our booth at the Wisconsin Fishing Expo. Being a Madison event, we make a big push to get more local muskie fisherman interested in joining the club. We sell raffle tickets for the Wisconsin Muskie Club Alliance boat raffle and also sell donated lures at our booth s garage sale. If you have any old lures, tackle boxes, rods, or reels that you would like to donate to the CCMI garage sale, bring them to the February meeting and get them to Dan Reim or other club officer. Finally we will have a booth at the Wisconsin Musky Expo in Wausau March 3-5. We will get to meet muskie anglers from the north and get the final word out about the muskie school and fundraiser. If you are interested in helping out at an expo, please Brett Cook, brett.cook.ccmi@charter.net, and he will get you in contact with the board member organizing our booth.
