4 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 SEC HONORS BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss women golf s freshman duo has been spectacular all season long, and now they have SEC honors to back it up. Julia Johnson was named the SEC Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Rebel ever to win the honor. The rookie out of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, was also named second-team All-SEC, a first for the program since 2010 and the first of the Kory Henkes Era. Johnson and Conner Beth Ball also became the first two Rebels to be named to the SEC s All-Freshman Team. Additionally, Ball was selected to the SEC Community Service Team. I am so proud of what Julia and Conner Beth have achieved during their freshman year at Ole Miss, Henkes said. When we were recruiting them they both had big dreams of changing this program and leaving a lasting legacy. The SEC awards they received today speak volumes for the dedication and hard work they have poured into this golf program. They are not only talented golfers but even better people and I m so excited to see what the rest of their collegiate career has in store for them. Johnson s Freshman of the Year designation comes amid one of the best individual seasons in program history. Johnson was named SEC Golfer of the Week once and SEC Freshman of the Week twice. She won two individual tournament titles, tying a school record, and she enters the postseason riding a streak of nine straight top-20 finishes, including an eighth-place result in her first SEC Championship appearance. It s an honor to be named among the best freshman in the SEC, Johnson said. I know this category is full of terrific golfers and to be in their company is an amazing honor. Ball was also integral to an Ole Miss squad that matched a school record with three team tournament wins. The freshman out of Madison, Mississippi, set the tone for the season, tying for third among a talented field in the seasonopener at the toughest golf course in America, Kiawah Island s Ocean Course. That podium finish is the first of four top-10 finishes so far this season for Ball. I m really excited about making the All-Freshman team, Ball said. This just helps prove to me that I have had a great year here at Ole Miss, and there is still so much to gain. We have hopefully two more tournaments left, and I m not ready for the season to be over, so I m excited to go and grind out a few more good rounds next week. 16 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 MEET THE COACHES KORY HENKES HEAD COACH COLUMBIA, SC SOUTH CAROLINA ( 04) Kory Henkes is in just her third season at the helm of Ole Miss women s golf, but already the program has undergone a transformation. As a student-athlete, Kory was a four-year letterwinner and a Southeastern Conference champion at South Carolina. Her coaching career began with a successful twoyear stint at Charleston Southern before she moved on to Augusta, where she led the Jaguars to three NCAA Regional appearances in four years. Her first year at Ole Miss brought the team s first top-10 finish at the SEC Championship since In Year 2, the Rebels broke a school record for stroke average at 298.5, the first sub-300 average in program history. Ole Miss has raised the bar yet again in Henkes third season. Guided by the best freshman class in school history, the Rebels set numerous team records while winning three straight tournaments to close out the fall season. Henkes provides professional caddying experience to the Rebel program. She has worked the bag for her brother, Kyle Thompson, on the Web.com Tour, as well as for Kristy McPherson on the LPGA Tour, and she has helped guide three individual medalists in her time at Ole Miss. Kory s husband, Kenneth, and her parents, Steve and Caryl, are some of Ole Miss golf s biggest fans. Catch them following Coach Kory and the Rebels at a tournament near you. 21 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: KATY HARRIS CAREER HIGHLIGHTS BEST FINISHES 2013 Eat a Peach Collegiate - Individual Champion 2014 Forest Oaks Fall Classic - Individual Champion 2016 Palmetto Intercollegiate - Individual Champion 2017 Rainbow Wahine Invitational - Runner Up 2018 Reynolds Lake Oconee Indiv. - Runner Up 2018 SunTrust Gator Invitational - Top Henssler Intercollegiate - Runner Up PERSONAL BESTS (AT OLE MISS) April is a scary time for most college seniors. In just a month, they ll be out in the real world, diploma in hand, starting the next chapter in their lives. And like many of her fellow graduates-to-be, Katy Harris is looking to make the most of her last month at Ole Miss. It s sneakily coming up on me that I m graduating, Harris said. Knowing that has made me work even harder this last semester because I am turning pro when I graduate, so it s very close that I ll start doing this as my career. It s not just school anymore. It has made me practice harder, work harder in the gym than anything else. That hard work has led Harris to her best spring season as a Rebel. She closed the fall with one of the best tournament scores of her collegiate career, going even par or under in all three rounds at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at (-4). A second-place finish in paradise sent her into the offseason with momentum. Harris went home to St. Simons Island, Georgia, and worked hard on her game throughout winter break. I worked with my swing coach Jack Lumpkin a lot. I took maybe six lessons total and worked with him a lot. I didn t really change very much, just more reassurance, Harris said. In the first semester, I was really close to playing well but was just a few holes off from carding a decent score. The extra practice and the six weeks off of just practicing and playing at home and just working on my swing really gave me the time that I needed to be able to really put rounds together and just compete. The lone senior Rebel supplemented swing work with diet and exercise. The Ole Miss spring schedule features a number of challenging events, including this week s SEC Championship, which will last five days for the top two finishers in match play. With that looming, as well as the demands of a career on tour, Harris changed up her diet and workout routines to return to Oxford in great shape. I did Whole 30 over winter break. I cut out any processed sugars, any processed foods. No sodas, no cheese, no dairy. It s just basically eating completely whole foods meat, veggies, fruits and drinking only water, Harris said. That combined with all the different types of workouts I like to do. I like to change it up a lot and try new things. I think that helped my body get in the shape I needed to play well and not get tired when I m out there. Because you re out there for 10 hours sometimes. In her first round of the spring, Harris came out with a 3-under 69 to tie for second at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Individual Collegiate Championship. She followed that up with a top-25 finish at the Rebel Beach Invitational before arguably her best overall outing thus far in the spring, a T5 finish at a stacked SunTrust Gator Invitational behind a 68 in Round 3, her lowest round as a Rebel at the time. That mark didn t last, though, as Harris broke through with the best round of her career, a 5-under (67) through cold, windy conditions in Round 3 at the Henssler Intercollegiate. She stacked up 15 birdies in that tournament, including seven in the final round both career-highs. Her 67 in Round 3 tied her for the most rounds in the 60s in a season (5) and a career (7) in program history. Unfortunately, it didn t come with her fourth collegiate win, instead it came with her third runner-up finish this season. While coming up just short of the top spot can be frustrating, Harris knows that second place in fields upward of 70 players isn t such a bad result. It s nice because I am playing well, but at the same time, I m only one or two shots away from winning, Harris said. You can always think of those shots that you gave away out there like, If I would ve made that, I would ve won. But I m just going to use it as momentum to finish out and play the remainder of the tournaments and hopefully do as well or better. It is frustrating, but at the same time, second isn t the worst thing in the world. I ll just use it as motivation to keep playing well. Thanks to a winter of work and dedication, Harris has played as well this spring as she ever has, including the best round of her career. Now she is set for her final run at the SEC Championships beginning on Wednesday. 21 Finish: 1 Palmetto Intercollegiate ( ) 18 Holes: 67 Henssler Intercollegiate - R3 ( ) 54 Holes: 212 (3x) MR: SunTrust Gator Invitational ( ) Birdies (Round): 7 Henssler Intercollegiate - R3 ( ) Birdies (Tournament): 15 Henssler Intercollegiate ( ) SCHOOL RECORDS HELD Career Stroke Average: Second-Lowest 18-Hole Score: 67 Three of 10 Lowest 54-Hole Scores: 212 Rounds in the 60s (Season): 5 Rounds in the 60s (Career): 7

22 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 THE OCEAN COURSE INVITATIONAL KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. Windy conditions halted the red-hot Ole Miss women s golf team in the final round of The Ocean Course Invitational. The Rebels entered Round 3 in first place, having shot even par in Round 1 and Round 2, but no team touched even par in the final round, and only eight individuals were under par over the last 18 holes. Ole Miss finished in a three-way tie for fifth at The course played really tough today, especially the back nine, said head coach Kory Henkes. We played in a constant 20 mph wind with 25 mph gusts off the ocean on the finishing holes, so decision making and the ability to be able to hit your ball in the proper location were crucial. Unfortunately, our wedges from 100 yards and in failed us today, so the team is eager to get back to work soon. Ball Wows in First Collegiate Tournament Despite coming up short collectively in Round 3, the Rebels had plenty to be proud of from their trip to Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Freshman Conner Beth Ball used a 68 (-5) in Round 1 to fuel a fantastic weekend. Making her collegiate debut, the Madison, Mississippi native finished tied for third at 4-under and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Conner Beth played three solid rounds of golf this week, and we are extremely proud of her third-place finish against some of the nation s best players, Henkes said. She brings a big personality and competitiveness to our team that has helped us tremendously. She is extremely coachable and eager to learn as much as she can. I think the sky is the limit for Conner Beth. The competition certainly was tight in the Rebels season opener. Ole Miss showed it belonged among a field of 17 that included six teams ranked 31st or better in last year s final Golfweek rankings. Meanwhile, Ball beat out a host of top-100 amateur golfers though there was one she couldn t quite top. Wake Forest s Jennifer Kupcho, the No. 3 amateur golfer in the world, claimed medalist honors at a stunning 12-under par. The Ole Miss freshman came away thrilled with her weekend, not just in her performance, but in her first experience on the road as a Rebel. I went into this week trying to maintain a positive attitude and just enjoy the time with my teammates, Ball said. This weekend was so much fun competing for Ole Miss finally and helping put us on the map. This weekend keeps me and the team motivated to work harder for the future of our program and each of our individual careers. Rebel Roundup It wasn t all Ball. Junior Kie Purdom also put together the best tournament and the best single round of her collegiate career. The Lexington, Kentucky native was one of eight competitors to finish under par in Round 3. Her 72 on Tuesday was her first under-par round as a Rebel, and it set a new career-best. Her incredible finish also sewed up a 54-hole score of 223 besting her previous career mark of 226. Freshman Julia Johnson had a great collegiate debut as well. The St. Gabriel, Louisiana native shot 2-under (71) in Round 2 and finished the weekend 8-over par. She tallied 38 pars, just behind Purdom s tournamentbest 40. Sophomore Pi-Lillebi Hermansson matched Johnson s 71 in Round 2 and closed her tournament at 9-over, rounding out a group of four Rebels in the top 30. 23 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK LADY PALADIN INVITATIONAL GREENVILLE, S.C. In Round 2, it was junior Kie Purdom with a career-best 70 (-2). In Round 3, sophomore Pi-Lillebi Hermansson raised the bar, shooting 3-under par (69) for the best round of her collegiate career to lead Ole Miss at the Lady Paladin Invitational. The Djursholm, Sweden, native recorded the first eagle of the year for the Rebels on Furman Golf Club s par-5 second hole and bogeyed just once. Ole Miss wrapped up play with its best round of the tournament, finishing 12th at We are proud of the way the team fought back after a rough first round, said head coach Kory Henkes. They could have easily given up, but they chose to grind it out the final two days. We saw several great scores today, and this will give them some momentum leading into our cohosted home event next week. Hermansson tied for the third-best score in Round 3, going 4-under on the course s four par 5s thanks to an eagle and two birdies. Pi had a great attitude today, and it proves that she is a fighter, Henkes said. She didn t start the tournament as well as she had hoped, but she played extremely solid today. It was great to see her keep her composure and post a low round. Freshmen Conner Beth Ball and Julia Johnson each finished 1-over par (73). Ball, a Madison, Mississippi, native tallied a team-high five birdies in an up-and-down final round. Johnson carded four to finish 8-over (224) for the tournament, three strokes better than the St. Gabriel, Louisiana, native s debut two weeks ago at The Ocean Course. The Rebels individual, junior Diane Lim, had a strong third day. Lim was feeling comfortable just about two hours from her hometown of Suwanee, Georgia, as she offset three bogeys with two birdies for a 73 to wrap up her first tournament as a Rebel. Her 226 came as the best of all golfers competing as individuals in Greenville. After a combined 17 birdies in the first two rounds, the Rebels totaled 14 birdies and one eagle in the third round alone. Ole Miss will have a quick turnaround as it plays co-host alongside Mississippi State for the Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point. 24 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 MAGNOLIA INVITATIONAL WEST POINT, Miss. Behind a nerve-wracking individual victory by freshman Julia Johnson, the Ole Miss women s golf team captured its first team tournament title under coaches Kory Henkes and Drew Belt. Johnson closed out Memphis sophomore Abby Herrmann in an intense two-hole playoff, and the co-host Rebels held off a strong Round 3 charge by the Tigers to secure a seven-stroke victory and a sweep of the inaugural Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club. It s pretty unbelievable. It still hasn t all sunk in, Henkes said. It hasn t happened in a couple of years now, and it s my first and coach Drew s first since we ve been at Ole Miss. It s not only going to help recruiting-wise, but it s going to help the girls on the team now. It s going to show them that they can do this, that winning isn t unrealistic anymore. It s something they re going to strive for each and every week and be disappointed if they don t get. I think this is just the kick start that they needed to keep on a good roll. Team 32 Makes History This marks Ole Miss first team tournament victory since the 2015 Samford Intercollegiate, the second in the last decade, No. 16 in program history and just the seventh in a 54-hole event. At , the Rebels finished just one stroke off the lowest three-round score in program history, and they set a new school record for the lowest score in a tournament victory, besting the previous mark of 885 set in The Rebels brought a 12-stroke lead into the day and took to the tee box ready to close out a historic win. Ole Miss played to 4-under as a team on the front nine and added three more birdies on the 10th hole, though nerves set in late while Memphis narrowed the gap. Freshman Conner Beth Ball recovered from an over-par Round 2 to play a key role in sealing the team win. She picked up birdies on nine and 10 and strung together eight pars to finish the round at 2-under, the best score of the day for the counting squad. The Madison, Mississippi, native finished tied for fifth ( ) for her second top-five finish in three collegiate tournaments. She edged her previous personal best of 215, set in her third-place finish in the season-opener at The Ocean Course Invitational. Sophomore Pi-Lillebi Hermansson was instrumental in the final two rounds as well. She came back from a difficult Round 1 to go under par on each of the final two days. The Djursholm, Sweden, native posted four birdies in Round 3, including one on the treacherous 18th hole. She finished tied for 12th, tying her best collegiate finish. Junior Diane Lim was playing in just her second tournament as a Rebel and her first in the counting five. The Suwanee, Georgia, native fought her way through a pair of bogeys on the back nine and holed a critical birdie on the 15th hole. At , Lim turned in her best performance and her best finish (T25th) in an Ole Miss uniform. Junior Kie Purdom was on pace to provide the fourth counting score for the Rebels. She was at even par going into 18, where she found trouble like many others did on the treacherous finishing hole. Nonetheless, the Lexington, Kentucky, native put together a spectacular three days at Old Waverly. Her personal-best 69 in Round 1 set the tone for the lowest tournament score of her career at 220. She tied for 17th to round out a group of five Rebels in the top-20. The fifth name on that list was senior Katy Harris. Playing as an individual, Harris was razor sharp in Round 3. The St. Simons Island, Georgia, native fired five birdies on the final day, including three in her first seven holes to finish at 3-under (69) and claw her way into the top-20 at 4-over for the tournament. Freshman Macy Holliday made it seven Ole Miss golfers in the top 30 with a strong collegiate debut. The Dallas, Texas, native went 2-over (74) in the last round thanks to three birdies and wrapped up an impressive first tournament score at (+8). Everybody was playing well, Henkes said. Every time you turn your head, you see somebody making a putt for birdie or par, fist pumping. The energy level was really high today. All the girls really pull for each other. We really have a family atmosphere. It s a lot of fun to see everyone play well. I couldn t be more excited for this team. Johnson s Historic Win Johnson earned the 21st individual championship in Ole Miss history and the first since Harris won the Palmetto Intercollegiate last fall. A native of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, Johnson is just the third freshman to win a tournament in the Rebels history, and she s the first since Lauren Mellen won the 1995 Mardi Gras Invitational four years before Johnson was born. Johnson is the first freshman to win a 54-hole tournament in program history. The young Rebel s three-day score of marked the best score in a medalist performance in school history, edging Abby Newton s mark of 210 at the 2014 Memphis FedEx Intercollegiate. It came just four strokes shy of LPGA Rebel Dori Carter s all-time mark of 205, set in Johnson endured an incredible late surge by Herrmann, who carded three straight birdies on 14, 15 and 16 to cut the lead to two strokes with two to play. A double-bogey by the Ole Miss freshman on the 17th hole erased that cushion. The nerves affected both competitors on 18, as each of their drives found the water. They both recovered for bogey to set up a playoff on the very same hole. After trading pars in the first playoff, Johnson took advantage of an errant second shot by Herrmann in the second playoff, again on 18, and she closed out the win with a par. I m exhausted. I had to play 18 three times in a row, and that s always hard, Johnson said. But I m really happy. Coach Henkes? She s happy too. I think this is going to be the first of many for Julia Johnson, Henkes said. She s a great player, and I m happy to have her as an Ole Miss Rebel. 25 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK PALMETTO INTERCOLLEGIATE KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. The Palmetto Intercollegiate brought the highs and the lows that are associated with a team as young as Ole Miss. But junior Diane Lim was the consistent force the Rebels needed to sweep the team and individual titles at Turtle Point Golf Course. Ole Miss claimed the lead through Round 1 before gusting winds and heavy rains caused the Rebels to slip to second through 36 holes. Led by Lim s tournament-best (-3), Ole Miss went low once again in Round 3, finishing at to hold off Kennesaw State by eight strokes. Team 32 made history once again, becoming the first Rebel squad ever to complete a tournament sweep in back-to-back events. Kory Henkes and Drew Belt s team is the first in program history to win two 54-hole tournaments in one season. I am just so proud of all the hard work Coach Belt and the team have put into everything they do this year, Henkes said. It was great to see the team bounce back after a tough finish in Round 2. They showed a lot of grit out there today and proved that they came to play. The Wedge Wizard Wins Lim, dubbed the Wedge Wizard by her teammates, found the top of the podium in just her third tournament with the Rebels. The Coastal Georgia transfer previously won six tournaments and earned All-American honors at the NAIA level, but winning in the Rebel red and blue felt unlike anything else in her golf career. This win wasn t like any of my previous ones, Lim said. The scale of winning with Ole Miss doesn t compare with anything I ve experienced before. It just felt great to be out there with the girls and get the job done. The Suwanee, Georgia, native got the job done when it mattered. She opened her tournament with a personal-best 4-under (68). The junior then endured the elements in Round 2, finishing at 2-over to remain in a tie for first place. Lim faltered a bit in the early going in Round 3, feeling the nerves of her first battle for a win as an SEC golfer. But after bogeys on the first and fourth holes, she settled in. I was pretty nervous at the beginning of this last round and it showed, Lim said. I bogeyed No. 1 and No. 4, and I knew I really needed to turn it around if I wanted a chance. She did just that, earning her nickname with excellent approach shots to set up short birdie putts on the fifth, sixth and 10th holes. She played her final 14 holes at 3-under to finish the tournament at 3-under and she needed every stroke. Xavier sophomore Mikayla Fitzpatrick, last year s Big East Freshman of the Year, birdied three of her last five holes to finish at 2-under. Par 5 Performances Set Stage for Victory The Rebels trailed Kennesaw State by one stroke going into Round 3, but after outstanding play on the par 5 fifth hole, they regained control. The fifth hole was a microcosm of the tournament for Ole Miss. There were highs (eagles by Julia Johnson and Pi-Lillebi Hermansson) and lows (bogeys by Conner Beth Ball and Johnson and a double-bogey by Lim). But in Round 3, Johnson, Lim, Ball and junior Kie Purdom all birdied to give the Rebels the lead. It s always great to see birdies on par 5s, Henkes said. Our team has length as one of its strengths, so we have to capitalize when we can. The Rebels dominated par-5 scoring, coming in at 8-under for the tournament. The next closest teams were four strokes back at 4-under. Johnson Continues Hot Streak Johnson led the Rebel charge on par 5s, playing them 4-under over three days. Coming off her first collegiate win at the Magnolia Invitational, the freshman from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, stayed hot with a top-five finish, tying for fourth at She was in second place after 18 holes, two strokes behind Lim, but a double-bogey amid a rainstorm on her last hole of Round 2 knocked her out of the top five. She bounced back in Round 3 with three birdies, including one her last hole to move her to a tie for fourth. Julia has proven once again that she is a competitor, Henkes said. She struggled during Round 2, so it was huge for her to pull through with a score of even par today. It is nice to have her consistency and fierce attitude in our lineup week in and week out. Team 32 Trending Upward The Rebels finished with their second lowest score in a tournament win (883), trailing only the early-october win at the Magnolia Invitational (854). This is the 17th team title in program history and the eighth in a 54-hole tournament. It s the first time the Rebels have won back-to-back tournaments since the season. Lim s victory is the 22nd individual title in team history. Her score of 213 comes as a personal best at Ole Miss and is the fifth-lowest score in a tournament win in program history and is tied for the sixth-lowest 54-hole score shot by a Rebel. As a coaching staff we have put a lot of effort into the culture and expectations of this team, so it is rewarding to see positive results coming from everyone buying into our program, Henkes said. I know we are headed in the right direction and look forward to competing for more titles in the future. We are going to enjoy this win for a day or two and then get back to the work as we prepare for our final fall tournament in Hawaii. Ole Miss has a quick turnaround before its final tournament of the fall season. 26 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 RAINBOW WAHINE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOT TOURNEY INFO Date: Oct. 31-Nov. 1 Location: Wahiawa, Hawaii Course: Leilehua Golf Course Host: Hawaii TEAM Finish: 1st Score: Birdies: 50 Par or Under: 9 In the 60s: 1 WAHIAWA, Hawaii The Ole Miss women s golf team continued its historic fall season, winning the 2017 Rainbow Wahine Invitational Wednesday, the Rebels third straight team tournament title. The Rebels are on the longest tournament win streak in the program s 32-year history and tied the school record for the most wins in a single season, a mark set in the campaign. Title No. 3 came by a margin of just three strokes. Ole Miss and second-place Grand Canyon played identical third rounds at 288, but the Rebels used a few timely birdies late to earn the program s ninth title in a 54-hole event at (-3). Individually, all six Rebels finished in the top 15, including four in the Top 10. Everyone played great this week across the board, all six of our players, said head coach Kory Henkes. It s hard to win a golf tournament Everyone has to be on all three rounds. No matter what the field s like, it s a tough thing to do. It was really cool to see our younger players step up, and it was really exciting to see us end our fall season like this. The Rebels entered the day with just a three-stroke lead on Grand Canyon, which shot the lowest tournament score in its history. It looked early on like the Rebels might run away with it. Conner Beth Ball, Julia Johnson, Diane Lim and Kie Purdom all knocked down birdies in the early going to give Ole Miss a seven-stroke cushion. Henkes group carried its lead through much of the round but never could separate. Ole Miss totaled 16 birdies on the day, but Grand Canyon totaled 15, keeping the pressure on the Rebels throughout the match. Grand Canyon played great, Henkes said. They re a great team. It was fun to play with them. Ole Miss powered through its most troublesome stretch on the course in Round 3. Holes brought 13 bogeys or worse in the first two rounds, but the Rebels combined for just two in that span in the final round. However, they weren t home free. A few scattered bogeys late in the round cut the Ole Miss lead to just two strokes, but the Rebels found a way. It was definitely nerve-wracking, Henkes said. It s just one of those times where you have to put your trust in your players that they know how to get it done. That s exactly what they did. One way or another, all five of the Rebels counting golfers came through. After a tough front nine, Purdom played 1-under with three birdies on the back to finish the tournament at 3-over (219) and in a tie for 11th both careerbests for the Lexington, Kentucky, native. Lim birdied her second-to-last hole to finish the day at even par and preserve the Ole Miss lead. That birdie was No. 12 on the tournament, the most by a Rebel in Hawaii and a new career-high for the junior from Suwanee, Georgia. Pi-Lillebi Hermansson overcame a tough start to the round for her first career Top 10 finish. The sophomore from Djursholm, Sweden, played her last nine holes 2-under par to finish the tournament at even par (216), setting new personal-bests in tournament score and finished tied for seventh. Ball birdied two of her first four holes to push the Rebels out to an early lead, but she fell back to even par for the day with two bogeys on the back nine. However, the freshman from Madison, Mississippi, ended her fall season exactly how she started it: with a birdie. That last birdie gave Ball three top-10 finishes in her first five collegiate tournaments. I started the season with a birdie, and it felt so good to end the season with a birdie, Ball said. I m so proud of this team and what we have started here this fall. It was a great freshman fall for both Julia and me, but I can t wait to watch us continue to grow into our games. After battling a sinus infection all week, Johnson was in contention for the win in Hawaii. She recorded back-to-back birdies on the fourth hole to move into sole possession of first place. The freshman from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, didn t quite have the winning magic down the stretch at Leilehua Golf Course, but she still came away with her third consecutive top-five finish in a tie for third. But at 3-under, Johnson wasn t even the Rebels top finisher. Katy Harris, competing as an individual in Hawaii, grabbed that honor with a birdie on her final hole to finish in second place. She tied a personal best at 3-under (69) in the final round and at 4-under (212) for the tournament both marks set during her 2016 Palmetto Intercollegiate championship run. It felt really good, Harris said of her last round. I played very consistent today and just never made any mistakes. I left a lot of shots out there on the first two rounds, which is disappointing, especially when I only lost by one, but all-in-all, it was a good three rounds. Harris played at even par or under all three rounds and went bogey-free in Round 3. The competitive senior from St. Simons Island, Georgia, couldn t help but think of the strokes left on the course that could ve could ve pushed her past tournament winner Sydney Colwill (-5) of Memphis. All in all, she came away pleased with the way she closed her fall season. It feels really good to end the season with a second place (finish) since I haven t been playing well this semester, Harris said. I m glad my hard work is showing though, and I m excited for the offseason to just work on my technique and get ready for what really counts the spring. Ole Miss wrapped up the best fall season in program history and is well on its way to the best full season ever. Prior to this year, the Rebels had never won more than one 54-hole tournament in a season, and they ve won three in the past month. The spring will bring a challenging schedule filled with SEC competition, but Henkes and assistant coach Drew Belt are excited to see how three hard-fought wins will equip the young Rebels going into the spring. It s a huge confidence builder for teams to get wins. It s important to see yourself in the winner s circle. That s what we did these last three weeks, Henkes said. I m really excited for the girls. I m just so proud of every single person on our team. It s been a joy to coach all of them. Coach Drew is a huge part of our success as well. We really work well together. Just to see the progress on a daily basis has been the best part, not only as golfers but as individuals as well. Seeing each player grow and get stronger, it s been a real joy to coach this team. 27 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK FALL RECAP FALL SEASON SNAPSHOT #Team32 is more than just a hashtag. It s a mindset that has helped the 32nd team in Ole Miss women s golf history bring the program to new heights. When Kory Henkes and Drew Belt arrived in Oxford, they inherited a program that had won just two tournaments since Now just halfway through their third year, the Rebel coaching duo has orchestrated the most successful stretch of golf in program history. Ole Miss captured three straight tournament wins to close the fall season, tying the school s single-season wins record. You always hope for this kind of success, but it can be hard to believe it until it really happens, Henkes said. The girls did amazing this fall. The Rebels believed right from the start. They began their season on a mission to put the program on the map, so Belt created the #Team32 mantra to represent that mentality. It started with a hashtag, but it grew into a rallying cry for the team. We didn t go into the season thinking, `We want to be good one day, Belt said. We want to be good right now. What are we going to do that s different than any other team? What s going to be our legacy? What are people going to talk about when they think of this season? That s where Team 32 came from. The Rebels showcased that mindset immediately. They opened the campaign at one of the toughest golf courses in the United States, The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. After 36 holes, they were in the lead--ahead of No. 44 NC State, No. 32 Florida State, No. 29 Tennessee, No. 25 Vanderbilt, No. 24 North Carolina, No. 20 Wake Forest and No. 16 Florida. Treacherous weather conditions derailed the young Rebels on the final day of the tournament, but there was still plenty to be proud of. Ole Miss finished tied for fifth among some of the best teams in college golf, and Conner Beth Ball tied for third in a stellar collegiate debut for the freshman from Madison, Mississippi. The following event was the only off tournament of the fall for Ole Miss, and it truly featured just one poor round. Take away the Rebels opening-round 311 at the Lady Paladin Invitational and sub it with their average round of 292.6, and they re in fifth place. I couldn t have asked for a better fall season, Henkes said. I think we had one poor round of golf this whole fall at Furman, and that really hurt us for that tournament. But other than that, it was a pretty amazing fall for the girls. After the trip to Furman came the amazing part. A week later, Ole Miss co-hosted the Magnolia Invitational with Mississippi State at Old Waverly Golf Club. After three spectacular rounds of golf, the Rebels came through with one of the biggest wins in program history. Ole Miss topped four SEC rivals, as well as a top-50 program in Memphis, shooting the team s lowest score (854) ever in a tournament win. Meanwhile, freshman Julia Johnson won a thrilling two-hole playoff to become the first freshman in Ole Miss history to win a 54-hole tournament. It was the Team 32 philosophy coming to life on Mississippi s finest golf course. Julia straight up told us when we were recruiting her that she wanted to come in and make a difference and change things, Belt said. This team came in wanting to change the history of Ole Miss women s golf. A couple of weeks later, they changed more of the history of Ole Miss women s golf. The Rebels headed back to Kiawah Island, this time to Turtle Point Golf Course for the Palmetto Intercollegiate. There, they became the first Ole Miss team to sweep the team and individual titles in back-to-back tournaments. Junior Diane Lim, another newcomer, shot 4-under par (68) in Round 1 and went under again in Round 3 to capture the seventh individual title of her collegiate career. The NAIA All-American from Suwanee, Georgia, led the Rebels to a team victory over No. 34 Kennesaw State and others. An immediate turnaround had Ole Miss back on the road after just two days at home in Oxford. This time Team 32 flew to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. After some sightseeing in paradise with The Season cameras rolling, the Rebels went to work, shooting all three rounds at even par or under to secure a third straight victory. Ole Miss didn t quite complete the sweep, but it was perhaps the best team effort of the season. Playing as an independent, senior Katy Harris finished in second place, tying a career-best (212) tournament score. Johnson grabbed a third-straight top-five finish, tying for third to close an outstanding fall campaign. Ball tied for seventh for her third top-10 finish of the fall. Pi-Lillebi Hermansson captured her first career top-10 finish, also tying for seventh. Kie Purdom recorded a career-best 11th-place finish, and Lim rounded out all six Rebels in the top 15 in a tie for 14th. Ole Miss returned from Hawaii with a suitcase full of personal bests, another trophy for the collection and the first threetournament win streak in school history. Three wins--that s tough to do. It s not easy to win a golf tournament when you re playing against other teams, Henkes said. The fun part is they re hungry to get better. They re not satisfied with how they did. They want to keep getting better during this offseason and have a good spring. The three wins all spanned exactly one month, during which the Rebels averaged per round, seven-tenths of a stroke above par. They ve played just half a season, but they ve already rewritten a litany of school records, including the most rounds at par or under (33) and the most rounds in the 60s (nine)--and more are within reach. To make that happen, the Rebels must maintain their level of play. In the last two seasons, Ole Miss has shot nine strokes better on average in the fall compared to the spring. That effect has hit the hardest in the first few tournaments out of the break, and Henkes is hoping this team reverses the trend, just as they did all fall. In the past, we just haven t looked great coming back out of the offseason to be pretty blunt, Henkes said. It s good to take a little bit of time off. Everybody needs a break. It s good to enjoy the holidays, but each girl has an assignment, whether it is something in the weight room or swing related or short game, so we re encouraging them to keep up with their progress. Because they ve made so much progress that we don t want to see them start backtracking. While the Rebels have had a fantastic fall, the intensity will increase in the spring. SEC Golfer of the Week honors are up for grabs. Ole Miss will travel to three tournaments hosted by SEC teams, not to mention the conference championship itself. Then, if all goes to plan, the Rebels will go to their first NCAA Regional since While the fall has been record-breaking, there are still plenty of goals out there, including that NCAA berth, but to get there, Ole Miss still must earn it. Henkes is confident her group will do that off the course this winter, and then on it in the spring. We have a group of girls that wants to win, Henkes said. They want to play, and I have no doubt that they re all going to stick to their gameplan over this winter and work harder so that when they come back into the spring they re coming out of the gates strong. The Rebels are scheduled to open their spring season on Feb. 26 in Las Vegas at the Rebel Beach Invitational. 27

28 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 REYNOLDS LAKE OCONEE INDIVIDUAL COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIP EATONTON, Ga. -- The circumstances were unusual at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Individual Collegiate Championship, but the Ole Miss Rebels made the most of it to start the 2018 spring season. Katy Harris tied a personal-best, shooting 3-under (69) to finish in a tie for second at the Lake Oconee Great Waters course. It marks the second-straight runner-up finish for the senior from St. Simons Island, Georgia. Playing well today just gives me confidence going into the rest of the qualifiers we have coming, Harris said. I worked really hard over the break to make the correct adjustments to my swing, and I worked really hard on my short game as well preparing for this semester. Even though we didn t get to play the full tournament, I think it was good just to get into that tournament mindset. Originally set for a practice round Saturday and 36 continuous holes of competition on Sunday, the Rebels spring opener was rescheduled to an 18- hole sprint on Saturday due to the threat of heavy rain. With the change in plans, assistant coach Drew Belt and the team had to improvise. We found out about not being able to play a practice round on the way to the tournament, Belt said. Obviously, some of the girls were quite anxious about not being able to see the course. When we arrived at the hotel, we basically did a walkthrough of every single hole online, going over the yardages, slope, club selection, etc. Waking up today they all had a game plan all set and were ready to play. Saturday s start was delayed due to thick fog, but when the action finally began, Harris showed early that she would be in contention for the win. She started on No. 8 and birdied her third hole of the day and vaulted to the top of the leaderboard with consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes. Harris briefly moved to 4-under with a birdie on the fifth hole, but she followed it up with her only bogey of the day on No. 6. She finished in a four-way tie for second place, one stroke behind Auburn sophomore Kayley Marschke. Harris hit the 3-under (69) mark for the fifth time as a Rebel. It s one off of her collegiate best of 68, set during her sophomore season at Mercer. Katy has stepped up this winter, Belt said. She was 100 percent ready to go this morning and very determined. Three under was about the worst score she could have had. She is in midseason form and is excited for Las Vegas. Macy Holliday carded the second-best score of the tournament for Ole Miss at 3-over (75). It took the freshman from Dallas a few holes to settle in, playing in her second collegiate tournament, but she played bogey-free over her final 10 holes, including a birdie on her second-to-last-hole. Martina Flori and Diane Lim rounded out the fourperson traveling team for Ole Miss. Flori tied her second-best round this season, while Lim battled through illness to finish 7-over. 29 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK REBEL BEACH INVITATIONAL LAS VEGAS Another tournament for Ole Miss women s golf, another set of hardware coming back to Oxford. The Rebels saved their best golf for last at Spanish Trail Country Club, shooting 1-over (289) in Round 3 to move up one spot on the team leaderboard and finish second ( ), just two strokes behind No. 40 UNLV, the tournament host. We played a great round of golf today, said head coach Kory Henkes. It was another cold and windy day that made for tough conditions. We knew we had to go low and keep the mistakes to a minimum if we wanted a chance to win. Overall, we gave it our all and put together some great rounds of golf, so we are proud of the effort of the entire team. Johnson Makes History Again Julia Johnson entered the final 18 holes in Las Vegas at fourth on the leaderboard, and she came out on top, sharing the individual championship with BYU s Kendra Dalton at an even-par 216 for the tournament. Johnson went 2-under (70) in Round 3 thanks to six birdies. The freshman from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, played 1-under over her final five holes to claim her second individual crown as a Rebel the most ever by a freshman in a single season. Johnson also tied the school record for the most individual titles in a season, set by Sarah Britt in the season. Julia had a lot of birdies this week and didn t make many errors, so it was another top-notch effort and we are all so proud of her, Henkes said. Hermansson Sets New Career-Best Pi-Lillebi Hermansson turned in an outstanding tournament as well, finishing in a career-best fourth place. Amid difficult weather conditions and a course laden with water hazards, Hermansson s wedge game was critical. I was a more mature Pi out on the course, Hermansson said. Better distance control with my wedges was definitely a game changer. The sophomore from Djursholm, Sweden, finished 3-over (219) thanks to four birdies in the final round for her first career top-five finish. Two of those birdies came in her final four holes, a finish that put a smile on the face of Henkes and assistant coach Drew Belt. Pi was a fighter this week, Henkes said. She was clutch for the team down the stretch with two birdies to finish up her round. Pi is a power player, so her focus has been working hard on controlling her wedges in practice, and it made all the difference this week. She continues to improve each and every tournament and it is so much fun to see her constantly getting better on a daily basis. Rebel Round-Up Conner Beth Ball finished just one stroke shy of her fourth top-10 finish of the season. The freshman from Madison, Mississippi, played nearly bogey-free on the final day, racking up 15 pars and two birdies to climb 18 spots on the leaderboard and close the tournament at 8-over (224) and in a tie for 11th. Katy Harris and Kie Purdom tied for the final counting score of Round 3, each at 3-over par. They rounded out a strong top-to-bottom showing for Ole Miss as all five Rebels finished in the top 30. Collectively, Ole Miss led the tournament with 46 birdies, the team s third highest total this season. 30 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 SUNTRUST GATOR INVITATIONAL GAINESVILLE, Fla. After a tough first day in Gainesville, the Ole Miss women s golf team put together its best performance in Round 3 of the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday. Led by a 2-under (68) round by Katy Harris, the Rebels fired the third-best team round of the day at 5-over (285) and jumped one spot on the team leaderboard to finish seventh at (+33) at the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course. I was happy with the way our team came together and bounced back with a solid round today, said head coach Kory Henkes. We posted the third-best team score of the day, which showed their determination and fight after the disappointing first day of competition. This team has a lot of heart, and they will give it their all every time they tee it up. Harris Secures Top 5 Finish on Final Day Harris found herself outside of the top 30 through 18 holes in Gainesville, but by the end of the tournament, the senior out of St. Simons Island, Georgia, had climbed all the way into the top five. After shooting 4-over in her first round, Harris turned around and went even par in Round 2. Then in Round 3, she tallied three birdies and just one bogey to go two under par and finish in a tie for fifth. I just played really consistent today and didn t make many mistakes, Harris said. I adjusted a few things in my swing after yesterday and was able to hit it more consistently today. I m glad I was able to just put a good number out there to get a top five. Sunday s performance was her sixth round in the 60s as a Rebel, moving her up to a tie for second all-time at Ole Miss. Four of those have come this season, good for the second-most in a single season in program history. Following a tough outing in Las Vegas, Harris was glad to get back on track going into another SEC-hosted tournament and another loaded field next weekend at Auburn. I m glad I could finish on a good note and hope to keep the momentum going into Auburn later this week, Harris said. Rebel Round-Up Julia Johnson turned in a 3-over (73) final round for her fifth top-20 finish at T18. The freshman from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, snapped a streak of four consecutive top-five finishes. While the birdies eluded Johnson in Gainesville, she finished up her weekend with a tournament-best 43 pars. Pi-Lillebi Hermansson saved her best round for last, shooting even par (70) in Round 3. The sophomore out of Djursholm, Sweden, carded six birdies on the final day the most by a Rebel in Gainesville. Hermansson now has two rounds this season with six or more birdies. Junior Diane Lim, competing as an individual, was better on par-3s than all but three of her competitors at Mark Bostick Golf Course, playing them at 2-under over the weekend. Lim was 2-over on the final day to finish 33rd. We learned a lot this week and know that we still have to continue getting better because we are playing against a lot of great golf teams this semester and can t afford to let old habits creep into our rounds during pressurepacked situations, Henkes said. We will use this week to regroup and work hard before heading to Auburn this weekend. Ole Miss now turns its attention to another tough test. Next weekend, the Rebels travel to Auburn, Alabama, for the Evans Derby Experience, which projects as one of the most stacked tournament fields in collegiate golf this season, featuring five of GolfStat s top 12 teams, including No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Arkansas and No. 5 Duke. 31 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK EVANS DERBY EXPERIENCE AUBURN, Ala. In one of the toughest tournaments on the 2018 collegiate golf calendar, Ole Miss women s golf freshmen Julia Johnson and Conner Beth Ball fought their way to top-25 finishes. As a team, Ole Miss finished 10th ( ) at the challenging Auburn University Club. Kory Henkes squad was one of 10 Top-50 teams at Auburn s Evans Derby Experience, which included 29 individuals ranked in Golfstat s Top 100. We had a slow start to the day, but I was proud of the way we really fought to hang in there, Henkes said. Julia had a huge bounce back with five birdies after a triple on her third hole. We have a quick turnaround until our next tournament, so we will put in the necessary work to help us perform our best next week. The No. 41 Rebels finished 23 strokes ahead of 11th-place Mississippi State and 25 ahead of last-place Michigan, in the mix with No. 22 Wake Forest and No. 26 Louisville. Meanwhile, No. 3 Arkansas ran away with the title, scorching a trail at 28-under (836) with No. 5 Duke (-19) and No. 2 Alabama (-14) in its wake. With some of collegiate golf s best out to play, it was a learning experience for the young Ole Miss team. It s just a different ball game when you re playing teams like Duke and Arkansas, Johnson said. It s a good learning experience. It s big for us to see that we all need to get hot together, that we all need to do this as a team. You can t be upset about anything that happens. You have to just walk away and know what you need to get better at, and just go home and try to get that little bit better. Johnson s round was indicative of the way the Rebels battled in Round 3. The freshman from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, picked up a triple bogey on her third hole, pushing her against the ropes. That early in the round, it knocks you in the face a little bit, Johnson said. You have to decide at that point what kind of day you want to have. Do you want to give up and shoot a 76 or 77 or do you want to fight it out? But like our coaches say, it s not about that hole, it s about the next hole. The hole after the triple, I ended up making birdie. That set the tone for what my day was going to be. After that birdie, Johnson stacked up four more, and no more bogeys until her final hole, leaving her at 1-under for the day and 2-under (214) for the tournament. The Rebels had four rounds at par or under in the tournament two by Johnson and two by Ball. Ball s Evans Derby Experience was highlighted by the team s only round in the 60s at Auburn a 3-under (69) by the freshman from Madison, Mississippi. The birdies that piled up over the first two rounds evaded Ball in Round 3, but she still finished at an even-par 216 and in sole possession of 25th place. Senior Katy Harris opened her third round with a bogey but played her next 15 holes at 2-under, including back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. Harris shot 2-over (74) in the final two rounds to finish 49th. Sophomore Pi-Lillebi Hermansson opened her day with a rough patch of four straight bogeys. However, she parred the next nine holes and added two birdies down the stretch, including an incredible blind chip out from behind a tree that skirted just past the hole, nearly for an eagle. The Rebels return home, have one day off and two days of practice before hitting the road once again. Ole Miss heads to Georgia for the Henssler Intercollegiate, hosted by No. 48 Kennesaw State, March Chip-Ins Ole Miss was one of 10 top-50 teams at the Evans Derby Experience, including three of the top five teams in the nation. The 75-person field features 29 golfers in the top 100, including eight of Golfstat s top 15 golfers. The Rebels increased their single-season program record to 47 individual rounds under par. Ole Miss snapped a streak of six straight tournaments with a top-five individual finisher. It s only the second time this season the Rebels haven t had a player finish in the top five. Johnson recorded her team-best 12th round under par. This marked her sixth straight tournament at 216 or better. Johnson reached double-figure birdies for the fifth time this season, all in the last six tournaments. She now leads Ole Miss with 80 on the year. Ball recorded her fourth tournament at 216 or better and her third tournament with double-figure birdies. TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOT TOURNEY INFO Date: Mar Location: Auburn, Ala. 32 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 HENSSLER FINANCIAL INTERCOLLEGIATE KENNESAW, Ga. The lead changed hands time and again Tuesday at Pinetree Country Club as the Ole Miss women s golf team went head-to-head with No. 19 Kent State. The Rebels came up just short of the come-from-behind win, but they left the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate with their fifth finish of second place or better this season. Ole Miss shot even par (288) on the final day, its best round of the tournament. The Rebels braved cold and windy weather and took the lead early in Round 3, but they couldn t quite hold off a late charge by the Golden Flashes, settling for a second-place finish at (+16), seven strokes off the lead. We played really solid golf today, said head coach Kory Henkes. Even par in cold and windy conditions is always something to be proud of. We gave it our all and had a tight race going with Kent State. They are a great team and just outplayed us this week. Katy Harris led the Rebels, tying for second place behind only Kent State s Pimnipa Panthong, the No. 34 ranked individual in the country according to Golfstat. Harris played the best round of her collegiate on Tuesday, setting a new career-best at 5-under (67). I started off with back to back birdies this morning, and that really set the pace for my whole day, Harris said. I really just tried to stay in the moment and not get ahead of myself throughout the round. I don t really like to tally my score throughout the round so I can just take it one shot at a time and not get ahead of myself when I am playing well. After back-to-back birdies to open the round, Harris stacked three in a row to close out the front nine at 3-under par. She then went bogey-free on the back nine, sprinkling in two more birdies. The senior from St. Simons Island, Georgia, set career marks for birdies in a round (7) and in a tournament (15). Katy is a very talented player who has been on the verge of a breakthrough round, Henkes said. The only thing that has been holding her back in previous tournaments is one or two mistakes per round. Today she made great on-course decisions which led to seven birdies and an impressive score of 67. Harris was one of three Rebels to finish in the top 10, alongside freshmen Julia Johnson and Conner Beth Ball. Johnson notched back-to-back birdies early in Round 3 as well and finished the tournament at 4-over par and in seventh place. Ball also tallied back-to-back birdies on the front nine to shoot 1-over par for the day and 5-over for the tournament to tie for eighth. Ball recorded her fourth top-10 finish of the season, while Johnson s was her fifth. Harris second-place finish came as her fourth top-five of the year to tie Johnson for the team lead. Pi-Lillebi Hermansson turned in her best round of the tournament on Tuesday. The sophomore from Djursholm, Sweden, carded five birdies to finish 2-over (74) for the day. Hermansson tied for 23rd for her best finish since finishing fourth in the spring opener at the Rebel Beach Invitational. After their fourth tournament in the span of a month, the Rebels will have some time to breathe before their next event, the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by Georgia on April Chip-Ins Katy Harris passed the 45-round minimum over the weekend and is now the career stroke average leader at Ole Miss at Harris tied the Ole Miss career record with her seventh round in the 60s. She also tied the single-season record with five. Ole Miss tallied a tournament-best 43 birdies. Harris was the best player in the field on par 5s, playing them at 6-under. Harris led the field with 15 birdies. Johnson was third with 11. 33 SAN FRANCISCO, CA TPC HARDING PARK LIZ MURPHEY COLLEGIATE CLASSIC ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss women s golf team had one final tune-up on Sunday before next weekend s Southeastern Conference Championship. Against yet another stacked field in this spring season, the Rebels finished ninth, one spot ahead of fellow SEC squad No. 13 Florida, at a score of Ole Miss placed three individuals in the top 25: Julia Johnson at a tie for 17th, Pi-Lillebi Hermansson in a tie for 21st and Kie Purdom at T25. As a group, the Rebel starters combined for just three bogeys over their final six holes. We are very happy about the strong finish today, said head coach Kory Henkes. UGA is a great tournament to prep for SEC s, and the team is excited for this coming week. Johnson overcame an uncharacteristic 5-over first round and shot under par in Round 2 and Round 3, giving her 14 rounds at even par or under this season, tying a school record set by LPGA Rebel Dori Carter. The freshman out of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, overcame a pair of bogeys midway through her rounds and finished out at 2-under over her last six holes thanks to two birdies in her final three holes coming into the clubhouse. I was a little nervous coming in and had a little bit of a rocky first round, Johnson said. On that second round, I had to change my mindset and try to scramble and get under par somehow. The last two rounds were a ton of grit and grind for me. I knew I wanted to go under par in those rounds and get myself up the leaderboard. That s a good feeling going into SECs. Hermansson s third round, meanwhile, came with a hot start, as the sophomore out of Djursholm, Sweden, played 2-under through her first 10 holes en route to a 2-over (74) day. Hermansson had 11 birdies, the 10th-best total in a talented field. Purdom had a similar final day to Johnson, overcoming a rough patch midway through the round. Purdom also played 2-under over her last six holes, including a birdie on her final hole to leave Athens with some momentum--as well as her best overall score and finish of the spring season. The fact that the strong finishes for Johnson, Hermansson and Purdom came against such a talented field bodes well going into SECs. This weekend s event featured 10 top-50 teams, including three of the top five, not to mention the nation s No. 1 junior college program. The field included five of the nation s top 10 individuals, 14 of its top 25 and 19 of the top 50. It feels like every time we play these fields, we always get a little bit more comfortable with it, more comfortable with the level of play, Johnson said. It s really good experience to get to play against the best players in the world. I m excited for our team. We re trending in the right direction. Ole Miss now has just a couple of days to make its way to Birmingham for the SEC Championship, which opens at Greystone Golf and Country Club s Legacy Course on Wednesday, April 18. The tournament begins with three rounds of stroke play. From there, the top 18 teams will play match play, with the quarterfinals and semifinals taking place on Saturday and the finals televised on the Golf Channel on Sunday. Chip Ins Julia Johnson recorded her 14th round at par or under this season, tying her for the single-season program record of 15, set by LPGA Rebel Dori Carter. Johnson finished in the top 20 for the eighth straight tournament. Johnson reached double-figure birdies for the seventh time this season and now has 101 birdies for the campaign. Pi-Lillebi Hermansson tied a career-high with 11 birdies in Athens, her third time reaching 11 this season. Hermansson climbed into second place on the Rebels birdie charts with 80 on the year. Hermansson s score came as her fourth at 220 or better this season. Kie Purdom tallied the second-highest birdie output of her career with 10. Purdom s finish came as the sixth inside the top 25 of her career. Ole Miss tallied 28 birdies in the first two rounds, tying for the third-most in the field. The Rebels ninth-place finish is the program s best at the prestigious Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic since they finished seventh during the season. Johnson s T17 finish is the team s best ever in a full 54-hole Liz Murphey. The best individual finish in program history of T13 came in , when The Liz was shortened to just 18 holes. Ole Miss 41 birdies were the fourth-most in the field. The Liz featured three of the nation s top five teams and 10 teams in the top 50, not to mention the nation s No. 1 junior college program. The field included five of the nation s top 10 individuals, 14 of its top 25 and 19 of the top 50. TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOT TOURNEY INFO Date: Apr Location: Athens, Ga. 34 NCAA WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MAY 7-9 SEC WOMEN S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP BIRMINGHAM, Ala. In her first ever Southeastern Conference Championship, freshman Julia Johnson led the Ole Miss women s golf team and showed she can beat the nation s best. The rookie out of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, shot 3-under (69) in Friday s final round to finish higher than any other freshman in the conference in eighth place, one stroke off of a top-five finish at (+1). Behind Johnson, the Rebels carded the fifth-best team score in the field on the final day to finish 11th, nine strokes out of the eighth-place cutoff to come just shy of advancing to the match play portion of the championship. I was really proud of the way I played the second two rounds and fought back after a not-so-great first day, Johnson said. To get that finish with this strong, strong field was really great. It gives me a lot of momentum going into the postseason. Johnson tallied her ninth straight top-20 finish and her sixth top- 10 of the season. The 58th-ranked freshman out of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, finished ahead of 12 fellow top-100 golfers, including three of the top 15 players in the nation. Her Round 3 69 tied for the best round shot at the tournament and was just one of four rounds in the 60s recorded in Birmingham. Johnson walked the course with head coach Kory Henkes en route to her ninth straight tournament score of 220 or better. She birdied two of her first holes, but they were nullified by a double-bogey on her fifth. However, she rebounded and went bogey-free the rest of the day, playing 3-under over the final 13 holes three straight birdies while making the turn and eight straight pars, including a chip-in for the eighth to come into the clubhouse with the best round shot by a freshman in Birmingham. I had coach Kory with me again today, which I always love. She keeps me calm and centered, Johnson said. After that double, I made a really good up-and-down for par and that got my momentum back. It was really fun. It was a good day. To finish a tournament with a chip-in for par is always fun. As a team, Ole Miss saved its best performance of the week for last, shooting 7-over (295) to climb another position on the team leaderboard. All five Rebels recorded their lowest scores of the tournament on the final day at the challenging Legacy Course at Greystone Golf & Country Club. Freshman Conner Beth Ball carded four birdies in her last six holes to go 1-over (73) in the final round and climb 10 spots in the individual leaderboard. Ball shot 4-under on the par 5s for the tournament, tying her for the fourth-best mark in the field. Ball finished with eight birdies on the week, second on the team behind Johnson s nine. Sophomore Pi-Lillebi Hermansson also overcame a tough first day to card identical 4-over (76) rounds on the last two days. Junior Kie Purdom went 5-over on the last day for her best score of the tournament at 77, while senior Katy Harris was 7-over in Round 3. We had a really solid day today overall as a team, Johnson said. A lot of girls played well today. We ll use that as momentum to go into regionals and try to make our way to nationals. We know we can play well. The Rebels, ranked 42nd in the latest Golfstat rankings, have strong odds of making the 72-team 2018 NCAA Regional field. The field will be announced Wednesday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m. CT on the Golf Channel. Top-seed USC handled No. 4 seed UGA to advance to the finals, while Arkansas upset Alabama to earn a spot in Sunday s championship. The Razorbacks went on to take the SEC Championship in a 3-2 final round that went down to the wire. Chip-Ins - Johnson shot one of just four rounds in the 60s all tournament, all at 3-under (69).
