JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 7 TH, 2018 RACE #1 7 MYSTERY MESSENGER 4 CHARGE AHEAD 6 SEVENTH WONDER 1 CAPTAIN HANDSOME CAPTAIN HANDSOME a debut runner for Robert Tiller is by, Silent Name, and from the same dam who produced the stakes winner, Circle Of Friends; he has had consecutive half mile works from the gate in 48.2bg getting ready. GIDEON S SWORD a debut runner for Silver Duck Racing Stable and Partner is a homebred and a full brother to the very quick, Aaronic Blessing; he worked in a fast time September 14 th on the training track in 47.1 getting ready for Suzanne Drake. HONDURAS a debut runner for Jim Ensom is bred for speed by, Munnings, and is from a dam who won twice as a juvenile; he worked in company from the gate September 30 th in 48.1hg getting ready. CHARGE AHEAD an auction purchase for Mark Casse is by the Travers winner, Will Take Charge, and this one is from a dam who liked the grass; he was forced to scratch September 23 rd but has come back to work in 59.4 and will debut here at five furlongs. NOW WE ARE NINE a debut runner for Darryl Hasmatali posted a fast gate work September 22 nd getting ready and has subsequently prepped from the gate; he was an auction purchase and is one of several in here who are Ontario sire eligible in this open event. SEVENTH WONDER a debut runner for Robert Rose is bred to be extra fast by, Old Forester, and from a dam who was a six time sprint winner and she has already produced a couple of nice multiple winners; speed has been on display in his works and he prepped September 22 nd in 47.2 getting ready. MYSTERY MESSENGER debuted August 12 th and had the misfortune of getting in against a preferred winner, Avie s Flatter, who is in the feature today; he fought between rivals and was simply second best to that superior winner; he has worked on turf in the interim but runs five furlongs on Tapeta from the outside. RACE #2 7 ALNILAH 6 CURLUCK 5 MAGIC SPELL 4 PATTON S GIRL SAFARI KITTEN had a comfortable position close to the pace last time in an optional event but was fanned four wide from the second flight and didn t respond late in the lane; she goes to a higher level here; she has had an interim work on the turf. ISLAY INLET did fine when her speed carried two starts ago on turf for a maiden score; most recently, she was off the pace early and did not thrive with that approach; Wilson takes over here. REAL COAL is fast and no doubt will make the pace just as she has done in other turf offerings this season but in each start on grass she has come up shy in the lane; she is shortening to six furlongs here. PATTON S GIRL had a tentative approach behind runners last time then made a dash inside to steal it; she earned a particularly high rating for that turf success; she now looks to jump significantly in value to take advantage of her momentum. MAGIC SPELL looks like a contender; she competed with give to the ground two starts ago and finished third against the now stakes placed, Scarlet Flutter; most recently, she was fanned too wide to have an impact but still finished a closing fourth; she cuts back in distance for Gail Cox. CURLUCK is the big question mark as she gets her first start since July 8 th when she encountered a turf that was too firm at a distance that was too demanding at nine furlongs; she has had time to come back to hand with a series of works for Mark Casse; Boulanger commits to her at this shorter distance. ALNILAH will compete only if this event goes on Tapeta and that would make her a strong pace contender; she comes off a runner up finish at this distance and in this class last time when beaten by a high profile winner. RACE #3 7 BLAKEY 4 NESTLETON HUSH 6 LEONARD S BAY 5 JOE CLOCKER REDOUTE S LIGHT competed against some of these in this category September 8 th when coming off the shelf and tried to make an outside move but couldn t sustain his energy and, Nestleton Hush, was better in second. MAKEMINEAMANHATTAN competed in a similar event against some of these two starts ago on Tapeta and was a fading eleventh when, Nestleton Hush, was second. PRIDEOFDISTINCTION was on turf last time and closed mildly in a race where the winner closed wilfully from ninth to take it all; she settled for fourth just in front of Makemineamanhattan. NESTLETON HUSH was knocked off his feet first time out and lost the rider; second time out he was able to devalue without notice for $20,000 to win; most recently, his value became more apparent as he ran well at a route in second behind a popular winner and the late pace was good; he had, Leonard s Bay, behind him. JOE CLOCKER has been bunched up while running on the confining turf course and will probably enjoy this extended contest on Tapeta where he will get a chance to stretch his legs; he had an excuse at the break last time and had an excuse deep in the stretch when a frustrated third.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 7 TH, 2018 LEONARD S BAY had a good race at a route last time in this category when going first time off the claim for Sandy McPherson; he bumped a rival at the start but came outside against a very good late pace and finished third just behind, Nestleton Hush. BLAKEY a three year old colt was able to take a maiden win August 26 th at a route and used his speed and overcame the bias; the runner up has also come back to win; he drops into this optional event and competes for the claiming portion for Mark Casse. RACE #4 1 GLITTERING SNOW 4 MUSIC MAJOR 6 RED HOT KITTEN 8 A BROKEN BREEZE GLITTERING SNOW debuted August 24 th at five furlongs and didn t have much in the way of early velocity but had some interest in the stretch; she is bred for turf by, Rookie Sensation; she is from the same dam who produced the stakes winner, Glamanation; more room is available here; the blinkers are off and Boulanger takes over. ANONYMOUSLY had a slow break in her debut but rushed into contention and was second best; second time out at this level in a protected race she rushed in the middle stages but landed on the edges; she is bred for turf and now goes to the lawn. FARFALLA was fully expected to win her opener September 12 th but she lost narrowly; she now will go to turf and does have one grass winning sibling; she stretches out for this. MUSIC MAJOR a homebred for Gary Chervenell is thoroughly bred for grass top and bottom and will debut at six furlongs on the grass for Roger Attfield; she has had quick works on turf in back to back trials and Hernandez will ride here at six furlongs on the grass. JOY S SOLUTION a debut runner for Earl Barnett is bred for turf being by, Real Solution, a winner of the Arlington Million; she has generally worked over short distances and was on turf September 22 nd for a move over three furlongs. RED HOT KITTEN debuted August 22 nd in a race that came off turf and went at seven furlongs on Tapeta; she stalked the pace and took over then was beaten late by a rallier; she is thoroughly bred for turf top and bottom and now goes to grass with a cutback in distance Da Silva lands here. NOBLE KITTEN has not been as complete as imagined and in both races has had prime positioning only to falter; Husbands was aboard for a recent work in getting ready for Mark Casse. A BROKEN BREEZE a homebred for Hopefield Farm is thoroughly bred for stamina and turf and will debut here at just six furlongs on the grass for Sandy McPherson; she worked on the grass September 22 nd and then had a Tapeta gate trial getting ready. PEGGY S COVE debuted at five furlongs September 16 th and rallied to finish third; she will need to improve her pre race manners; she now moves over to the turf with an extra furlong added. RACE #5 8 DAVKA 5 WHERE S THE GOLD 4 DIAMONDS AND ROSES 6 HANDSOME LIKE ME FINE GRIT competed at seven furlongs at a lower level last time and made a bid but hung and now faces tougher. WE TAKE CHECKS was moving too fast last time with positioning right near the quick pace; he faltered and now must go farther. AWSOME MOI got in behind rivals in the crowded run down the backstretch September 23 rd and didn t do much running after that delay; he is up in value here. DIAMONDS AND ROSES got down for $6,000 last time and many thought he had a good chance to share but the front runner dominated; he closed nicely along the inside to get second in a bulky field; he is up in value here. WHERE S THE GOLD looks like a competitor here; he attracted a claim when narrowly beaten for $10,000 at six and a half furlongs two starts ago; he had a good rally; most recently, he went up into too tough a spot and finished out of the money when, Davka, was third; he now gets back down to his claimed price. HANDSOME LIKE ME came off the shelf August 19 th and used turf as a bridge and was asked for speed with that big drop; he raced in front for a while and then finished far behind; he comes off another layoff and takes a further drop and now goes to a Tapeta sprint with Husbands aboard and the blinkers off. RED CHILL had a good race off the shelf September 9 th at a route when third; most recently, he couldn t duplicate that good effort; he shortens in distance here. DAVKA is without a win in nine trips this season; he was going first time off the claim for Norm McKnight September 16 th following time off; after breaking behind he was soon in front under Simon Husbands enjoying a perfect pace trip but he gave it up late and finished third as the favourite; he now comes down below his claimed evaluation. OX TROT returns as a gelding here after a wide loss last time in a route; he will shorten to a sprint here with Santos aboard.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 7 TH, 2018 RACE #6 6 SCAT S ROSE 2 ART OF ALMOST 1 SOUPER CHARLOTTE 8 PRETTY POINT SOUPER CHARLOTTE a debut runner for Live Oak Plantation was an auction purchase and is by the Grade 1 winning sprinter, Warrior s Reward; she has prepped both on Tapeta and turf getting ready and comes from the inside here for Mark Casse. ART OF ALMOST is working with a significant turf pedigree being by, Dansili, and a debut August 11 th came at five furlongs on Tapeta in a key race taken by a key winner who has already come back to win; the fourth place finisher has also come back to win on grass; he now comes over to the footing for which he is bred and travels six furlongs on turf for Roger Attfield. AVIE S SKY a homebred for Ivan Dalos by, Sky Mesa, will try six furlongs on turf at first asking and had worked on turf earlier but has concentrated on preps on Tapeta; she looks to be a rallying type. MARITIME BREEZE entered for turf two starts ago but the event went on Tapeta and she faltered; she faltered again last time after an intense opening three furlong rush. MUNCH AND CRUNCH is hoping her pedigree will help make a difference here after two average performances early in the year; she now gets onto grass and her sire was undefeated on turf. SCAT S ROSE is working with a significant pedigree for Chiefswood Farm being by, Scat Daddy; she goes for Mark Casse in this six furlong opener on turf; she worked on Tapeta September 14 th in and was on turf September 29 th in 1.00 in company; Husbands rides. MARNER was once again out of the money last time after a middle pace contribution and she will now try turf in hopes of moving forward. PRETTY POINT a homebred for Stronach Stables is by, Point Of Entry, a multiple Grade 1 winner on turf and this one will debut on grass for Martin Hinckson; he worked on turf recently in 48. SALSITA ROJA is a welcomed visitor from Chicago who tried turf in her opener and ran well with a speed approach but in a race that came off turf second time out she faltered; Kimura rides for Hugo Rodriguez. RACE #7 8 MO GEE 3 TISHINA 2 CHILLING SECRET 7 EMPEROR JOHN BOURBON EXTENSION is getting his first start since early summer when he was out of the money twice on turf; in the spring time he had run a route on Tapeta where he won going away in a peak performance; he will try and revisit that performance here. CHILLING SECRET was able to win in front for $20,000 back in July; a move to a route August 19 th had him comfortably positioned on a slow pace but he weakened only late in a good effort; most recently however, he was outrun throughout; he now drops down and Husbands takes over; Mo Gee also has speed. TISHINA was driving forward at a higher level two starts ago to finish third against a key winner; most recently, he got into a race where there were several speed sources; he tracked from relatively close to the pace until he faltered and the late pace was good in that race; he now takes the big drop for $20,000. COOLSHADE is getting his first start since August 19 th when he was between rivals in tight quarters and clipped heels and fell; he indicates a recent work on the training track getting ready. MIRACLE SILVER couldn t handle the speed of the top two September 23 rd ; he sought out room through the stretch to advance and was finally sixth of eight; the blinkers are on and he goes to Tapeta. MARCUS went from a fringe performance going this distance on Tapeta to a seven furlong race last time where he was similarly on the edges but he didn t get the same type of performance rating; he gets back to a route here. EMPEROR JOHN clipped heels and fell in his previous event on turf; most recently, he was more fortunately as he narrowly missed an accident and then closed late; he goes to Tapeta with hopes of a late run here. MO GEE is an obvious favourite following his maiden win for twice this price last time; he showed tenacity on the lead turning back a determined runner up in good time; Boulanger rides once again.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 7 TH, 2018 RACE #8 4 AVIE S FLATTER - BEST BET 6 KITTEN S GIRL 9 BOLD SCRIPT 5 JUST LIKE LARRY HESATHRILLER had a win last time out going five furlongs on Tapeta for maiden $40,000; he subsequently had a work on turf and will go for a big purse here. TRICKY MAGICIAN is thoroughly bred for turf top and bottom; he was the runner up in consecutive events on turf including the Soaring Free; he then went to the difficult Summer Stakes last time where he made a bid outside early in the stretch but was finally seventh; he takes on a more restrictive group here and has had interim prepping; he competes for Gary Barber. OJIISAN a two year old by, Stormy Atlantic, was very aggressive in his six furlong opener on Tapeta as he streaked away when going lasix free; following that big win he now adds lasix and goes to turf a footing over which he worked with Contreras aboard September 29 th in going out well in for Josie Carroll; he competes for Glen Sikura and Partners. AVIE S FLATTER a homebred for Ivan Dalos was a winner at first asking; second time out he went to the Summer Stakes where he was at the back early then tried to swing out at the top of the stretch with some force but he finally ended fourth and his stable mate was third; he is a strong individual with a chance to progress here. JUST LIKE LARRY is a runner with considerable upside; his opener on turf was good and in his second start he was eliminated at the break by the fourth place finisher, yet, zoomed up into contention and finished second against, Nashtrick; the winner was third in the Summer Stakes while the third place finisher from that last race was second in the Summer Stakes; he had a work September 30 th on turf in for Gus Schickedanz and D. Howard and trainer Mike Keogh. KITTEN S GIRL is a homebred for Sam-Son Farm winners of this race on twelve occasions; she debuted September 7 th at seven furlongs on turf and took time to settle and rushed by her opponents; she is beautifully bred for turf by, Kitten s Joy, and from the same dam who produced the Horse of the Year, Up With The Birds; she had a rally on turf in her most recent trial getting ready for Malcolm Pierce. GROUNDHOG DAY attracted a claim August 26 th by Lorne Richards and True North Stable and won that day with some stamina; he is from the same dam who produced the long distance turf lover, Aldous Snow; he has had plenty of training in the interim and now will go for a big purse here when discovering turf. FLYING CURLIN a debut runner for Gary Barber and John Oxley is by, Curlin, and from the same dam who produced the Valedictory winner, Leavem In Malibu; he worked on turf September 22 nd in 1.01 in company going forwardly and has since had a gate work September 30 th in 1.01bg getting ready for Mark Casse. BOLD SCRIPT a homebred for Chiefswood was stakes placed second time out at six furlongs on turf and then tried the Natalma last time; the top two in that race were very strong and she did well to finish third in an event that was just a bit quicker than the Summer Stakes; Boulanger was aboard for a recent good work and takes over for Stuart Simon. MOON SWINGS competed in the Summer Stakes last time and yet again had trouble getting out of the gate; he moved forward and finished sixth of twelve in an ok performance; fourth in the race was Avie s Flatter who is here; the blinkers are off for this more restrictive test; he has had an interim prep on turf. RACE #9 6 SILHOUETTE 4 A. A. AZULA S ARCH 3 SUPERDUPER SKY 2 SPRING TEMPEST LADIES NIGHT is one of two three year old fillies here along with, A. A. Azula s Arch; she was in a key race last time in the La Lorgnette taken by a very strong winner; she waited inside and couldn t gain late because of the goodness of the late pace; the fifth place finisher, Hanalei Moon, has come back to win. SPRING TEMPEST was productive two season s ago as a two year old and won in the summer of 2017 as a three year old; she just recently made her way back as a four year old in the Algoma Stakes where she was beaten only five lengths; the runner up in that race has come back to win the Classy N Smart; she had a good reaching stride September 29 th in with Boulanger aboard. SUPERDUPER SKY is getting her first start since the spring when she was a route winner here and she now makes her way back at a route at the same second allowance classification but is now in for the claiming portion; she indicates three September works at five furlongs getting ready for Mark Casse. A. A. AZULA S ARCH was moving forward smartly through late July but after a trip to Chicago where she was unplaced she stalled in her comeback race in the La Lorgnette when an ok fourth against a key winner; the runner directly behind her has come back to win; she looks to reach back and find some of that earlier potential. DADDY S GREAT BAY has competed in three consecutive stakes events but without quite enough to get Black type; she gets some relief here in this allowance contest and Kimura once again will have the mount. SILHOUETTE was enjoying strong form in the middle of her 2017 campaign but she was put away last September; she made her way back this September; her bridge race on turf should be quite useful to get her ready for this reachable spot on Tapeta; she is a well bred individual.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 7 TH, 2018 RACE #10 6 VOW TO KITTEN 3 DYNATOWN 5 CHESTNUT GROVE 1 HOLY FORT HOLY FORT ran a good race on Tapeta last time when going second time out at the meeting; it was a vast improvement over an earlier sprint; he committed to a speed style and was beaten right at the end by a winner getting her first start of the year; the fifth and sixth place finishers have since won; now she goes to turf for the second time in her life. I WONDER returned from time away and was repositioned here to Woodbine July 27 th where she ran third against a key winner; she has trained up to this return which comes on turf for Augustin Stable. DYNATOWN is certainly one to watch in this second start with more room available; her opener was strong; she indicated a good reaching stride and she finished third just inches out of second; she has come back with a good interim work for Mark Casse; she competes for Live Oak Plantation. ONE FOR NICKI is bred for turf top and bottom and will now go to the lawn for the first time after a couple of out of the money finishes in sprints; Sutherland was aboard for a good work on turf recently and has the mount. CHESTNUT GROVE a developing daughter of Street Cry, is a late runner who finished third just about a short length behind the runner up, Vow To Kitten, last time out and she faces that one again here; she has had interim prepping for Rod Ferguson Farms and Catherine Day-Phillips; Wilson now rides. VOW TO KITTEN debuted for Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey September 9 th against a heavy favourite who galloped around in front; she tried that one in the middle stages but was repelled and settled for second just in front of Chestnut Grove; she had a recent work in 59.4 with her first three furlongs in 35 getting ready for this second start which comes at only a mile on turf with Da Silva now aboard. TIMBERLEA is a good galloping type with some stamina potential who debuted at a route and finished fourth when, Holy Fort, was better in second; the blinkers are on and she moves to turf. RACE #11 6 BIG BAZINGA 5 CHRIS BREW 3 MONEY TALKER 1 BOLD ANIMAUX 8 SPANISH RIVER BOLD ANIMAUX had the toughest assignment last time when running in front over a surface more helpful to closing types; he was engaged by the winner through the stretch and fought to the last jump; the winner has already come back to win. KITTEN S SOLUTION had a strong race in an extra fast sprint event under the lights September 26 th ; following that big rally against the winning favourite he now goes to a route. MONEY TALKER had tough luck last time as he was bothered significantly at the gate by the fourth place finisher; he was in a tough spot on turf for $19,000 and wasn t far away; he is looking to end his winless drought with this big drop for $9,500 and a shift to Tapeta with Kimura riding for McKnight. WILLY S CASTLE beat non winners of three last time and stayed off the pace until into the stretch where he quickened by the others; he now faces multiple winners. CHRIS BREW is without a win in recent times but has been nibbling at the edges and that was the case for $16,000 last time; he now he gets to run for only $10,000 on this final drop. BIG BAZINGA knows how to win races but had tough racing luck at the top of the stretch last time between rivals and finally finished third with, Bold Animaux, in second and the winner has already come back to win. RUN TO THE BANK is without a win in recent times but now drops down for just $10,000 following a fringe try last time when, Chris Brew was better; he has had interim prepping. SPANISH RIVER came off the shelf September 22 nd at seven furlongs and ran willingly when against the flow of the race; he had a slow pace with which to contend; he went from a sprint to a route to win big here in the spring time and tries that angle here. BOURBON FIRST was asked for his best response when dropped for $16,000 last time but finished sixth beaten seven lengths with, Chris Brew in third and he is here; he has had an interim work getting ready for this final drop.
