From Feb. 1-28, the Lottery conducts a special Red Ball drawing after each Pick 3 drawing. The drawing takes place using a separate Red Ball drawing machine. During the first drawing (midday, Feb. 1), the draw team places one red ball and six white balls in the Red Ball drawing machine. The balls are mixed and then the draw team pulls one ball from the machine. Red Ball starts Feb. 1 with the Pick 3 midday drawing. When a red ball is chosen, Pick 3 winners for that drawing receive about 20 percent more automatically when they cash their prize. When a white ball is chosen, Pick 3 winners for that drawing win the standard prize. Each time a white ball is drawn, it is removed from the machine in the drawing that follows -- improving the odds that a red ball will be drawn. After the red ball is chosen, all seven balls are returned to the drawing machine in preparation for the next Red Ball drawing. 6 Fiscal Year 2018: A year in review It was a good year for U.S. lotteries and a good year for the Ohio Lottery, which earned $3.16 billion in traditional lottery game sales, a record. In Fiscal Year 2018, Ohio ranked 10th in traditional sales overall, 11th in instant sales and 6th in terminal draw game sales among the 44 lotteries operating in the continental U.S., according to an analysis by LaFleur s Magazine. Ohio Lottery retailers increased sales by an impressive $158.4 million, with the largest gains made in multi-state games, monitor games (Keno and The Lucky One) and instant games. More than 70% of these gains came from games with set payouts, which are easier to forecast than jackpot dependent games. Retailers earned $206.1 million in commissions and bonuses. Players won too, securing almost $2.0 billion in prizes, an all-time record. Of the $1.087 billion raised for the Lottery came from sales generated by traditional sale of Ohio Lottery games are transferred to education. Here is an overview of the Ohio Lottery s Fiscal Year 2018 performance. Daily Draw Games As a game category, Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 generated $586.0 million in sales, up $7.2 million or 1.2% compared to the prior year. These daily draw games, also known as Numbers games, make up the largest game category among the Ohio Lottery s terminal-generated draw games. Pick 3, the oldest and most popular of the Numbers games, generated $340.1 million in sales, up 0.1% compared to the previous year. Pick 5, the newest of the Numbers games, grew $2.7 million to $40.8 million, up 6.7% compared to Fiscal Year In-State Lotto Games Classic Lotto, including the spiel game KICKER, secured $34.4 million in sales, up $3.4 million or 11% compared to Fiscal Year The game was helped along by the year s growing jackpot, which rose to $26.8 million before it was hit Jan. 10, 2018 at the Speedway in North 6 Ticket Seller Jan 2019 Canton. During the year, customers won $14.4 million in total prizes. Rolling Cash 5, the Ohio Lottery s 5/39 little lotto game, generated sales of almost $53.0 million in Fiscal Year 2018, down $2.6 million or 4.6% compared to the previous year. Ohio Lottery players won 91 jackpot prizes in Fiscal Year 2018, hit May 16, 2018 for $501,000. That jackpot-winning ticket was sold at Day Kay Enterprise in Painesville. Overall, players took home $27.5 million in prizes. Multi-State Games Mega Millions sales, including Megaplier, grew to $120.0 million, up $26.8 million or 28.7% compared to the previous year, helped along by the debut of Mega Millions 2.0. The change, which went into effect Oct. 28, 2017 for the Oct. 31, 2017 drawing, moved the game from a $1 to a $2 price point and included matrix changes designed to produce higher jackpots, with longer top prize odds. The matrix changes also provided better odds of winning the second-tier prize and included higher prizes The changes seemed to have the intended effect. In Fiscal Year 2017, the average Mega Millions jackpot was $78 million. In Fiscal Year 2018 after the matrix redesign, the average jackpot increased to $159 million. The Mega Millions jackpot soared over $300 million three times during the Lottery players secured six winning tickets of the second-tier, $1 million prize. Large jackpots also brought attention and play to Powerball this past year. Ohio Lottery players purchased $148.1 million worth of Powerball (including Power Play), up $18.3 million or 14.1% compared to the prior year. The average Powerball jackpot went from $166 million to $176 million from Fiscal Year 2017 to Fiscal Year The Powerball jackpot rose to a high of $758.7 million Aug. 23, 2017, now the third highest jackpot prize in U.S. history. Lucky for Life sales also improved, up 4.3% to $20.7 million. Ohio had four winners of the second-tier, $25,000-a-yearfor-life prize during the year. Those prizes were sold in West Chester, Dayton, North Olmsted and Akron. EZPLAY, Touch & Win and Tap Games Players purchased $113.2 million worth of traditional EZPLAY Games, the paper-based instant draw games available across the Ohio Lottery s network of retailers. Game sales were down almost $7.0 million or 5.8% from the prior year. Top performers included $20 Twenty 20 s, with $24.4 million in sales; the Quick Spot series ($1, $5 and $10), with $16.4 million in sales; and $20 Red Hot Numbers, with $10.2 million in sales. Progressive games made up approximately 56% of the overall EZPLAY Game portfolio. Touch & Win games, the interactive touch screen games sold in specialty Touch & Win vending machines located in the Lottery s bar and tavern trade channel, grew 20.2%, up almost $3.3 million to $19.5 million. The Touch & Win category, created in Fiscal Year 2018, absorbed the Quick Keno category and added other popular themes (i.e. sports, holiday/seasonal themes etc.). Keno Stars was the top seller for the second year in a row. Other top-selling Touch & Win games include 4-Spot and Super Keno. Together, the three made up approximately 44% of Touch & Win game sales. Tap Games, available exclusively at clubs and fraternal organizations, also saw an increase in sales in Fiscal Year Tap game sales reached $31.8 million, up 5.9% or $1.8 million from the previous year. Top games include Treasure Dig, Fiesta Bingo and Breaking In, which together made up about 49% of Tap game sales. The Ohio Lottery debuted 37 traditional EZPLAY Games (plus three Countdown games), 27 Tap games and 20 Touch & Monitor games: KENO/Booster and The Lucky One In its 10th anniversary year, Keno sales continued its upward climb. In Fiscal Year 2018, Keno/Booster sales were $421.1 million, up 6.3% or $24.8 million from the prior year.

7 As a complement to Keno, the Ohio Lottery debuted The Lucky One Jan. 21, The game provides players with three ways to play an exact number match from 1 to 36, low/high and/or odd/even. The game generated $11.6 million in sales. Together, Keno and The Lucky One provided a 9% increase in total monitor game sales. Instant Games The Ohio Lottery released 51 instant games, including nine base games, according to the Instant Ticket Department, with customers purchasing more than 352 million tickets at retail. Instant tickets generated $1.6 billion in sales, up $73.5 million or 4.8% compared to the previous year. Focus group testing on all instant games, which began halfway through Fiscal Year 2017, has continued to generate positive results. Sales at the $3, $5, $20 and $30 price points were up compared to the prior year. The top-selling game based on the number of tickets sold remains Cash Explosion, which generated $37.0 million in sales, with more than 18.5 million tickets sold throughout the year. Other top sellers by number of tickets sold include $1 Holiday Cash (17.8 million tickets), $5 Special Edition Cashword (15.7 million tickets) and $1 Double Doubler (13.0 million tickets). The top-grossing instant games included $30 Max the Money, with $87.8 million in sales; the $10 instant game $500,000 Cashword, with $63.3 million in sales; and the $20 instant game $300 Million Diamond, with $62.9 million in sales. Looking Ahead The Ohio Lottery has more than 9,800 licensed retailers offering lottery products throughout the state. Our dedicated retailer community is the critical bridge between the Lottery and its players. Improvements in technology, retailer engagement and customer experience will help position the Ohio Lottery for the marketplace of the future. As the agency looks ahead, it remains focused on improving sales, innovating whenever possible and embracing integrity as the center of operations. The industry is facing an evolution in consumer demands and product offerings. The digital world is moving quickly with demand for alternative trade channels, self-service and the transition to cashless payments. As we move ahead, retailers will play a pivotal role shaping our industry s future. Krista reportedly handed a store clerk two tickets with different sets of numbers to replay. Krista was in a hurry to get to a birthday party and didn t look at the new tickets before leaving the counter. After checking them later, she discovered the clerk scanned one of the two old tickets twice, and so she held two winning tickets, each worth $50,000, for that Powerball drawing. 10 Agent Feature: Dixie Delicatessen, Fairfield By Marie Kilbane Seckers, Communications You could say that Jamie Maggard was born into the retail business. His dad Harold purchased Dixie Delicatessen in 1980 after operating a number of convenience stores in and around Hamilton. You can find Jamie, along with his dad, mom, wife and sister, working at the store along with six, mostly fulltime, employees. His customers, he says, are definitely educated, very diverse. It s not uncommon to hear multiple languages spoken in the store. He points to the international airport to the south of the store and multinational businesses nearby. His customers include employees of a major insurance company down the street. He has office pools whose members enjoy playing Mega Millions and regular customers who enjoy instant and numbers games. Jamie s customers love the Ohio Lottery and, to the store s credit, has strong, balanced sales in multi-state games, Keno and Numbers games, as well as instants. Dixie Delicatessen is the top retailer in its district and one of the top 35 retailers statewide. They ve got a great reputation, says sales representative Bob Betsch. They are great people, very approachable and employees are well trained. Dixie Delicatessen has a loyal following of longtime customers. It s one of those things in business -- in order to be successful, you have to know what s going on with your customers. That makes you more effective, Jaime says. His other insight? If there s one thing I ve learned in business, stick to reality, he says. He hears customers say they hope the Lottery would put in more winners. Everyone wants to win, he says. But if it happened that way, it really wouldn t be a lottery. Jaime Maggard (right) calls working with customers at the family-owned Dixie Delicatessen in Fairfield a privilege. He hopes the New Year is a good and healthy year for his family and staff. My goal is to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves, he says. Pictured with Jaime is his dad Harold Maggard (left). The store opens at 5 a.m. each day and you can often see both Jaime and Harold there, ready to help their customers. The fact that they (players) know we will help them and pay them is key to bringing players back, Jaime says. All Dixie Delicatessen employees sell Lottery games. He stresses to employees that they are waiting on individuals with individual needs. He calls the opportunity to serve them a privilege. When you see it in those terms, it s easier to meet their expectations, he says. Being able to say, Let me fix that ticket for you it s amazing to see the business you get back by taking a minute here and really talking to them. Jaime sees Lottery advertising as one of its strengths. He believes that makes for well-informed Lottery customers. The store places a priority on cashing winning tickets and routinely holds a second-chance drawing in January, to perk up interest in the store right after the holidays. Jamie says the store gives away lunches, non-alcoholic beverages and occasional Lottery tickets. He s pleased with Bob, his Lottery sales representative, who looks out for the store and has skills that complement his own. Jaime says Bob advises him in managing the store s instant ticket inventory, helping him determine what to add or subtract from his instant ticket display.
