For the January through March 2018 period, Retailer Incentive Program participants shared $2.3 million in incentive program bonuses. Find the list of top performers here. We appreciate the hard work of each and every participant. Retailers who agree to participate, maintain fundamentals like timely instant ticket activation and meet other benchmarks are seeing a positive impact. Performance qualifiers like adding a Lottery play area, upgrading ticket displays or offering promotions are making a difference. We re now monitoring performance for the second quarter of In just a few short weeks, we will have completed the program s first full year and will have even more information to share. Our bottom line results -- we ve seen some nice improvement in instant ticket sales, which through May 5 are up more than 5% compared to last year. Powerball, Keno and Mega Millions are among the top performers in our draw game line up, helping boost overall draw game sales by 7%. Summer is now in full swing; so, help your customers take full advantage of it. The Voice instant game will be among the five games released June 27. During the first quarter of 2018 (Jan-March 2018), 2,744 retailers shared more than $2.3 million in incentive bonuses. An additional 3,264 retailers who joined the program would have shared almost $1.04 million in bonuses if they had met baseline practices maintaining their Lottery account in good standing (no NTFs or strikes) and activating one new book for each game released by the Friday of delivery week during the incentive period. 7 Taking Care of Business: Skill-based amusement machines and legal matters As of April 23, 2018, the Ohio Casino Control Commission ( OCCC ) began regulating skillbased amusement machines. This is important for Ohio Lottery retailers to know in case you are approached by vendors who offer to place legal gaming machines in your place of business to generate income. If the machine is a true skill-based machine, then both the vendor and the retailer (referred to as the operator by OCCC) must obtain a license from the OCCC before it is introduced into your stores. Retailers should note that for a machine to be legal under Ohio law, the outcome of the game must be based entirely on skill (see Ohio Revised Code (ORC) ) If there is an element of chance, the machine is illegal. Therefore, if you are approached by a vendor who wants to put any type of gambling device in your place of business, be sure to ask to see their OCCC license. Remember, if you agree to put one of these machines in your place of business, you will be considered an operator by the OCCC and will need to apply for a license. If you have any questions about a particular device, or about skill-based amusement machine licensing in general, you can call the OCCC at (614) If you are caught with an illegal machine, you could be charged with illegal gambling under ORC A gambling conviction will also likely result in the loss of your Ohio Lottery license. 10 Agent Feature: Cambridge News & Carryout, Cambridge By Marie Kilbane Seckers, Communications You could call Cambridge News & Carryout an institution in the Cambridge community, going all the way back to the 1950s when the store opened as a regional distributor of Ohio s major newspapers. That tradition continues, and even today you can pick up the Columbus Dispatch, the Canton Repository, Akron Beacon Journal, Wheeling Intelligencer and other newspapers and magazines at the store. The previous store owner told current owner Patty Garfield that one product alone will not make the business profitable, but offering a variety of products and taking time to help each grow keeps customers coming back. Cambridge-area retailer has true enthusiasm for Lottery. Cambridge News is an excellent agent that promptly puts out all games and has the entire store decorated with winning tickets, says Lottery sales representative Tim Glover. Whether it s a seasonal display of Easter baskets or a St. Patrick s Day-themed poster, Kim s work has caught many people s attention, including sales representative Tim Glover. Patty focuses on three key areas the business of news, beverages and Lottery. Cambridge News & Carryout was one of the area s first Ohio Lottery retailers, and when Patty, the daughter of a Cambridge flower shop and restaurant owner, purchased the business in 2001, she was ready. She felt confident in her retail experience and knowhow, and was ready to strike out on her own. It s a lot of fun, she says. With the help of three employees, the store is one of the top Lottery retailers in Guernsey County. The most popular games are instants, with Cashword, Cash Explosion and the $30 games among the favorites. Pick 3, Powerball and Mega Millions are also popular. The Cambridge News & Carryout staff excels in a few important areas, notably in-store signage and promotion. The store benefits from the marketing and artistic sensibility of Kimberly Walters, a longtime employee. She regularly creates displays using instant tickets as the base for her designs, and her catchy signage can be found at the store s Lottery play station and by the instant ticket display. 10 Ticket Seller June 2018 Kim is known for her design of lottery-inspired art at Cambridge News & Carryout. They use non-winning tickets and make all types of crazy displays, says Tim. When it comes to winners, Cambridge News & Carryout is known for cashing tickets. Patty sees cashing as an important customer convenience and encourages retailers to implement strategies to make cashing possible. The store has had its share of big winners too. This past January the store sold a $100,000-winning KICKER ticket to a longtime customer. The store sold one of four jackpot-winning tickets for a Rolling Cash 5 drawing in Perhaps, that s one reason Patty is a loyal Rolling Cash 5 player. To thank her loyal customers, Cambridge News & Carryout offers periodic second-chance drawings, usually focusing on higher-priced games. Most recently, the top prize was a flat screen TV. Patty also includes other prizes, like gift certificates to a local restaurant. The restaurant owner himself is a longtime Lottery customer. I appreciate customers who keep coming back, says Patty. I appreciate all my customers.
