1 Inland Communities Chapter of the California Dressage Society ICCcds.org Published Quarterly April 2012 EVENT WAS A SUCCESS Chapter Hosts Junior Horse Judging Affair Rubidoux FFA, Fallbrook FFA, Glen Avon 4H and French Valley 4H. We had many ICC volunteers (human and horses) for the judging classes, which consisted of a dressage suitability class, dressage seat equitation and several in hand conformation classes. The participants had a wonderful day learning about what it takes to successfully judge a dressage horse from Kathy Pavlich, who served as our official judge for the day. Thanks again to the Pavlichs for letting us use their beautiful facility and to all of By: Sara Mosqueda T.C. STAFF WRITER Kathy Young/TC Staff Photographer The ICC Jr. horse judging event was a HUGE SUCCESS!!! 2 Chair Message: Page 2 Greetings All - News from CDS: The ICC chapter basket, designed and executed by Sara Mosqueda and shipped to the CDS annual meeting in Sacramento in January for the silent auction during Saturday's business meeting, was purchased for $100. Forty percent of that is returned to the chapter, so we did quite well. Thanks to Sara for volunteering to do the basket this time. Our March ICC board meeting, originally scheduled for March 7 has been moved to March 21 due to show and other commitments for several board members, resulting in our not having a quorum. Your ICC board is working on a list of "sponsorship levels" as well as new chapter trophies, and each of these items require a vote. The April 21 schooling show at Shadow Ridge in Highland is going to be fantastic, with Peggy Klump judging. Peggy did a wonderful job for us at the October recognized show last year, and of course, Tom and Kathy Pavlich's facility is just beautiful. Shadow Ridge is also the site of the CDS Southern Region Adult Amateur clinic with Rachel Saavedra May 5 and 6. Auditing is free, and everyone is welcome. I've watched Rachel coaching at shows; am looking forward to a full day of watching her work with adult amateur riders. Stay in touch with everything on our website, There's a calendar, show news, downloads of show premiums, and more. Also check out our Facebook page. Registration at Facebook is free, and if you search "Inland Communities," you'll see the logo pop up. Click on it and ask to join. If you joined when the page was first started, you have to join again--the old page has been archived and the page has been "migrated." (And don't I sound like I know what I'm talking about?) If you don't see articles or other items of interest in, the ICC newsletter, why not consider submitting something about yourself and your horse? We also have a feature, Meet The Trainer, and perhaps you'd like to submit an article for that particular segment. Our intrepid editor, Dusty "Perry White" Williams, is actively seeking material for the newsletter, which is published every two months. Dusty's is dustyw@rcflood.org. Send stories as Word attachments, pictures in *.jpg format. If you have questions or comments, I'm always available. I look forward to meeting you at a future ICC function--and members are always welcome to attend the board meetings as well. See you soon, and enjoy the longer days and good riding weather. Any questions or comments, give me a call! Kathy Young, ICC Chapter Chair (cell)
3 Page 3 ICC Awards Banquet This year s Inland Communities Chapter Awards Banquet was held the evening of January 7th at Casa Trejo in Yucaipa. DeeAnne Gunneman wore out the carpet, as she was called to the stage 4 times to pick up the Rae Lockwood Amateur Award, the Diane Prisco-Mink Award, the Holy Smoke Award and Training Level Award. STAFF WRITER Our Members Have Been Busy Even though we haven't had any chapter shows yet this year, ICC has been well represented at some of the early winter shows. looking pair! Of note, this was the first time in nine years that this show didn't have rain or snow. We had four days of perfect weather! In January, riders from Sunset Hills and Shadow Ridge headed out to Thermal. We enjoyed great desert weather, with warm days, cold nights, and no wind! As the first show of the year for many, we saw a lot of exuberant horses, including mine. Some of the riders had show ring nerves, (me), and a few riders went off course, (me again...darn that silly halt-reinback!) Happily, no one ended up in Mexicali on a runaway. Yes, I was worried about that. This show was also the U.S. debut of Steffen Peters' new megastar Legolas. In a word, WOW! In February, we headed to LAEC. This show was the first CDI for our own Kim McGrath and Winslow, at Grand Prix no less! What a great Shortly after, we went to another CDI at Del Mar Showpark. This was a bigger show, with a lot of horse-watching to do. Of course, more people means more dogs. In our aisle, we had Rocky, a St. Bernard-Dalmatian mix. He was a gentle soul with a disgusting habit. We were told he likes to eat horse manure, like many dogs. But then when he goes home, he gets car sick...can you imagine the smell? Eewww! Also near us was Piaffe, a horse show cat! She had a pink harness, a pink carrier, pink polished claws, and a cute little cheetah print fleece jacket. She was calm and relaxed, living the good life after being rescued from a dumpster. Horse folk are good people! Kathy Pavlich and Ultimo Jane Kleinman and Vizion Ria Ferronato/Photographer Susan Williams and Komo Two cold equestrians Kim McGrath and Winslow The End(s) Best Wishes To All For A Great Show Year!!
