Dean s Comments at THE MEADOWS TUESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2016 The MSOA has added an additional service to these chartcomments, which we hope are supplementing your own insight and handicapping abilities and allowing you to cash in for more, more frequently. It is called Outsiders To Watch (OTW), and it focuses on horses who showed more ability on the racetrack than the charted line may at first indicate, and also who figure to go off at decent odds in their next start. (We aim for horses in the 6-1 range; sometimes a horse gets an easy spot next time and is bet much more heavily; sometimes he draws a bad post and has no shot, as reflected in 50-1 odds.) We indicate these Outsiders To Watch with an *asterisk placed before the name of the horse in the chartcomments. They are usually 6-10 horses per card getting this designation. We find it is worthwhile to follow up on these horses in their next start (up to 10 days is preferred, though is acceptable), and that it is good to follow up on their second race after a *star performance if that second race comes within a 23- day period. Recent research, however, indicates that the first- time returnees do better than the second- time returnees at least as far as win rate and return. These horses can be played to win or in any position they often serve as good underneath horses in gimmicks, adding value when there is an unbeatable favorite in the race. (In fact, research shows that this may be the best method of using them, rather than straight- out win bets.) Good luck with the MSOA s *Outsiders To Watch sometimes not for the faint of heart, but always interesting! FIRST RACE OBSCENE BLUE CHIP moved out of the second turn, went three- wide to the 5/8 and swept the field, opened up to win as he pleased. FORT KENT got to the lead at the 1/8, had a horse pressing him to the 5/8, then the outside horse faded as the sweeper went by, just did hold second late over *MATTAROLLA. The latter stayed in, then swung wide early stretch and finished with good velocity. TREVOR S FOLLY left and yielded, kept the pocket closed, had no gain the last ¼. BAD MEDICINE got a slow start then gapped. MCLASSIC was urged leaving while four- wide, three- wide to the ¼ then ducked in behind cover, went three- wide past the 5/8 after the sweeper went by but couldn t get by his cover. A WELL SAID XAMPLE was three- wide to the first turn and then two- wide throughout, fell back after the 5/8. SECOND RACE MASSIVE RISK stayed out of trouble, came outside with cover just before the ¾ and three- wide headstretch, drew far clear of the others. PAIGE HANOVER tucked third nearing the first turn, advanced to the pocket at the half and tightened in by the 11/16, outside for the stretch and a clear second. SUNSHINE EXPRESS was parked just past the 1/8 for command, set a good clip for baby trotters on an open lead until past the 5/8, then had the field tighten in, and the other flat ones went by her in the lane. RIPPED UP moved out uncovered before the ¾ and gained on the turn, challenged but then went offstride headstretch. EVA KA JEAN made an early break, caught the field but then made another,

showed good speed in recoveries. LUCKY S ROSE was away to the front, yielded at the 1/8 and gapped slightly in the pocket before making a break on the second turn. READY SET LETS GO wasn t ready or set when she did go offstride an 1/8 before the start. THIRD RACE ZOLI came uncovered at the half and went in 27.4 down the backstretch while engaging the leader from the 11/16, bore out to about five- wide through the stretch but continued to gain and got the photo decision over WELL SPICED. The latter was between horses leaving, saw the one to his right break at the 1/8 and passed the one to his left at the 3/16 en route to a fast quarter, set the pace, couldn t quite withstand the winner. GLAMROCKER came up the inside and was a good third. ITS COMPLICATED was innermost of a troika of fast starters, saw one foe break then yielded to the other before a fast quarter for the pocket, was bottomed out by the 3/4. TA S AVANCE tucked behind the top three early, outside on the turn but with little. QUILLZ was always far back. SMART AS A WHIP left and was three- wide at the 1/8 when galloping. MATEO M gapped early, then gapped some more when moved outside down the backstretch. CANTAD KID misbehaved right at the start. FOURTH RACE FEARLESS SAM went to the top going to the first turn, backed off the half, opened up a good lead as the pocket horse struggled in the third quarter, then a really big lead when that one broke, saw MON RIVER ROSE coming in late but was handled confidently as too far ahead to be caught. MON RIVER ROSE came outside just before the 5/8, in gear 11/16, got to the pocket early turn as the fading pocket horse broke, gained steadily but had a little too far to come. MONTY HANOVER had the top and yielded, stayed in, not affected by the breaker as he immediately went off the course much more affected by lack of speed relative to the top two. A DANDY VIEW was off the gate, went wide in the stretch and had some finishing lick. TOTAL DIVA was never a factor; nor was MARY JO. MR DOVER was further off the gate than his left- hand neighbor; always far back. NORTHERN BRUISER was three- wide leaving, raced into the pocket at the 1/8, struggled down the backstretch then broke just into the far turn and was taken to the centerfield so as to not cause trouble. MONEE BANK broke w- a- y before the start. FIFTH RACE SQUARE DANCER was three- wide leaving to two- wide, to a brief lead then yielding for the pocket, outside again 5/16 to clear before the second turn, stepped home in 56.1 to see off first the first- over horse and then the late charge of MARTY PARTY TWO. The latter was four- wide leaving, three- wide to the first turn, and two- wide to before the 3/16 in pursuit of the lead, pushed the winner before yielding, had some pace along the inside in the sprint home but couldn t go by. HISTORY REPEATS was uncovered on the second turn, went 27.3 raw the third quarter to advance on the leader, stopped advancing ¾ but held her ground well. VINO AND FORMAGGIO angled wide in the stretch and had some late pace. ASHLEE S QUIK left and yielded, had room along the inside but not that much late. SHARK GAL was buried inside, finished alertly. MARISSA gapped cover. THE OTHERS were far back with little chance gaining a lot into a 56 back half.

SIXTH RACE GLASSINE HANOVER pulled at the ¼ and joined the parked horses, left uncovered past the 3/8 and got to the top before the ½ as the sixth and final lead change, too strong for these. SOMEMONEYSOMEWHERE left between horses to the top at the 1/8, yielded and saw half the field move by her to the top before the half, came first- over past the 9/16, clearly second- best in a very good race. WATCH WHAT YOU SAY was looped leaving and bided her time advancing two- wide, uncovered 5/16 to the lead just past the 3/8, let the winner go at the half, struggled before the ¾ but held third. GOTTHISONE HANOVER was second- over but gapped, evenly late. BLINKY BEACH was three- wide just past the 1/8, then took back to follow cover, left raw before the quarter and worked to the lead 5/16, yielded before the second turn, inside, Lightning Lane but could not gain. ZANE HANOVER never got close. MAKE MINE MOCHA was first to show off the gate but had inside leavers and was three- wide early, to two- wide and to the top 3/16, yielded 5/16, empty the last ¼. JENNY S TERROR broke at the ¼. SEVENTH RACE APPROPRIATE ATTIRE led for every one of the 5280 feet of the mile and won easily. SUMMIT CITY FLO was third- over behind a dull one, three- wide through the turn and outclosed the rest for the deuce. THISGIRLISONFIRE was outleft and tucked fourth 3/16, Lightning Lane and with some trot. BLOOMINGTON was three- wide going to the first turn and tucked in the pocket at the 1/8, couldn t stay with the winner most of the last half. CHIPARIFFIC sat in, found room between horses and made up a good bit of ground to garner the last check. BOBBY B BREEZE came first- up before the 5/8, got to with a length of the winner then fell back. CROWDSWILD HANOVER gapped at a couple of points. DE FRAIN gapped much of the way. MISS TILLY was outside with very little. FALL CREEK BANDIT was second- over but gapped, made a break midturn while not in major contention. EIGHTH RACE BETTOR S UP got away cleanly in third, went outside 3/16 to the lead before the 3/8, set a fast pace, won easily in track record- equaling time to give the Tetrick brothers a sweep of the stake. MISS JONES hustled to keep with cover, wide towards headstretch and closed well; PITTSTOP DANIKA was right behind her and also finished nicely. GIGI FROM FIJI showed sharp speed, forced a tuck then carried the winner to the 3/8 before releasing, kept up in the pocket but may have bottomed herself a bit in doing so in the fast numbers. CAVIART ALLY got a check but was never a factor. RISKY ROMANCE gapped much of the first half, got going raw 9/16 and went 27.2 down the back, sustained her bid to late turn, then fell back. SOMEOMENSOMEWHERE left and took the pocket at the 1/8, started losing ground at the half. SAPPHIRE BREEZE was never in this one. NINTH RACE UNEFOISDANSMAVIE was third early, sat in, angled wide in the stretch and had a fine kick in the last 1/8 to get the job done. PRINCESS PABLANO left, worked into the pocket in front of the winner 3/16, to the Lightning Lane, good but outkicked. RV JANET made the top before the 1/8, set a fast pace without much pressure, came up shy. HOMEPAGE moved out uncovered 11/16, gained around the turn then

flattened a little. BESSIE gapped along the inside much of the way, evenly. CIAO DOUGH and GLIDETOWIN were not prominent. PRISMATICA gapped cover. TENTH RACE BLUE BELL BONNIE was away third, quarter- moved to 3/8 command, well in charge of these late in a good time for this class. OFFICIAL TREASURE was outside until before the 3/16 before clearing, yielded the lead after that much distance again, OK to be a clear second. ALIVE N PARTYING soon made the front, pushed a foe then yielded, inside, to the Lightning Lane, decent. *EXOTIC FLING made a big move at the half and went up in 27.2 to attack the leader, applied pressure to past midturn, then fell back. THEYLUVMYCHERRIES was third- over behind a gapper, three- wide on the turn, couldn t get close. MY BUDDY LIZ was not prominent. ZEBRA STRIPES gapped in the back. OOOH NOOO gapped second- over. ELEVENTH RACE BRANDON MAN was three- wide to the first curve, made the lead 3/16, rated the half, then came in home in 58.1, not being threatened late. MOSHANNON MOTOWN was outside until getting the lead at the 1/8, yielded for the pocket, inside in the lane, gained a little but wasn t a huge menace. TREASURE QUEST K started uncovered at the 3/8 but soon had cover, second- over, three- wide late turn, evenly. CATCH THE BOUQUET got early position, didn t get a call thereafter. LIMA SKYE was first- up going into the second turn and was nearing the leader not long after coming out of that bend, was in the battle to headstretch, then had no more left to give. YOU RE CRAZY was third- over, angled wide in the lane but had little. DC ABBY gapped at the back. CLEVER FOX jumped it off 3/16. TWELFTH RACE ROCK THE NITE was parked 3/16 before making the front, yielded 5/16 for the pocket, snapped out headstretch and went by easily. UF DRAGONS ANGEL was outside before the winner had made the top, moved up and took the point 5/16, couldn t fend that one off late but held on to second. GARFISH was first to the front, yielded 3/16, in, fair. FEELING REAL sat in, to the Lightning Lane and made up some ground from far back. *SKYWAY HURRICANE came raw off the second turn and one- geared it until his gear was slower than many of the others headstretch. TWO BEAT gapped cover, then went three- wide when that one tired but couldn t make an impression. BATTLE CRUISER did not make his presence felt. THIRTEENTH RACE JUST A STEADY HALL left, yielded 3/16 then regained the lead quickly on the speed- favoring oval, came home in in a powerful win. EXPRESS JUSTICE was out a good ways in the good opener, yielded and stayed close during quick fractions, fought hard along the inside in the stretch but couldn t quite make it. MISSIVE left, tucked third nearing the 3/16, vacated that spot to the 11/16 and quickly moved up to pressure the lead, but had no more forward motion from headstretch and just did save show over BILLIE JO. The latter headed outside off the second turn, got cover to the 11/16 but couldn t stay with him as he sprinted after coming out of the hole, but stayed to task steadily, was three- wide

headstretch, and almost salvaged the show. SPECIAL ACTION never got in it from second- over. GS GRASSHOPPER broke at the start. THE OTHERS never entered contention. FOURTEENTH RACE A VERY NICE DRAGON moved out at the ¼ to get the front end under the wire for the first time, set the pace, kept to encouragement to the wire. ELEGANTLY VICIOUS was outside behind the parked horse early second turn, went three- wide before the 5/8 and grinded his way to two- wide raw at the ¾, fell back a bit on the turn into the stretch but would not give up and was narrowing back in late. PAINT MY PICTURE tailed the place horse, couldn t quite stay with his three- wide burst and was left three- high raw on the far turn, won a three- way picture for third. CEDAR WAPSI ROAD was outside most of the quarter before getting the lead, yielded to the winner, a bit loose in the pocket later in the backstretch and in effect to the wire. *BOHEMIAN DELIGHT raced to the lead at the 1/8, yielded to the ¼, shuffled, to the Lightning Lane and had some late pace. STEP CLOSER closed between horses without full clearance. *COMINAGAIN went a mile that was off- the- charts in real estate covered and energy expended: he never saw the rail, got in gear at the ¼ and went from seventh to third as first- over, didn t get looped until the ¾, was blindswitched on the turn, then moved out to three- wide late turn and four- wide in the lane as the three- wide horse stayed in place the last 1/8, and was gaining late to only miss third by ¾ of a length! THE OTHER TWO never featured.after the first three races (which were won by a third- quarter brusher, a second- over, and a first- over), nine of the eleven remaining winners were in front from the half onward, and the other two were pocket and third- inside (see why we were so impressed with COMINAGAIN?).
