The Peekskill radio station, WLNA, AM 1420, will broadcast from the Horse Show both Saturday and Sunday. Directions Enter Blue Mountain Reservation at corner of Washington St. and Welcher Ave. From the West: cross the Bear Mountain Bridge take Route 6 and 202 East to Route 9; drive south on Route 9 to the Welcher Ave exit; at the end of the exit ramp, turn left (east) onto Welcher Ave and drive three blocks to entrance at Washington St and Welcher Ave. From the North or South: take route 9 Exit East onto Welcher Ave; follow on Welcher Ave into Blue Mountain Reservation at Washington St. From the East : take Route 684 north or south to Route 35; follow Route 35 west to Route 202 in Yorktown; take Route 202 west to Peekskill; after crossing under the Taconic Parkway (horse trailers are not allowed on the Taconic Pkwy) continue to the intersection of 202 and the Bear Mountain Parkway; bear right onto the Bear Mtn Pkwy and follow until the intersection with Route 9 south; take Route 9 south to the Welcher Ave. exit; turn left (east) onto Welcher Ave; and go three blocks to the entrance to Blue Mountain Reservation at Washington St. Show Guidelines and Rules YOUTH ES - OPEN ONLY TO RIDERS 19 YEARS AND UNDER AS OF JANUARY 1, 2017 Youth Club Classes are for riders with membership in clubs such as Pony Club, 4-H Horse Clubs, American Quarter Horse Association Youth Club, Southern Dutchess Horseman Association Youth Group, and American Quarter Horse Association Youth Group. ADULT ES - OPEN TO AMATEUR RIDERS 20 YEARS AND OVER AS OF JANUARY 1, Pre-entry fee $10.00 per English and Western classes ONLY when the whole Division is entered. Individual Classes are $15 per class (e.g. Class 1 is $15 pre-entry). Pre-entries will close September 15, 2017, and MUST be accompanied by a check or money order and be signed. Post entries will be accepted after this date and on the day of the show at $15 for all classes. Western - Tack, equipment, a trophy or Wood carving and six ribbons will be awarded as prizes for all classes. A Trophy or a cooler, a Championship ribbon and a Reserve Championship ribbon will be awarded for all Championships. English A silver trophy or Wood carving and six ribbons will be awarded for all Classes. A Silver Revere Bowl, a Championship ribbon and a Reserve Championship ribbon will be awarded for all Championships. In place of a Revere Bowl, a Cooler will be awarded in the Champions of Children's Hunter and Beginner Hunter divisions.
3 2. Exhibit numbers will be provided at the Registration Table and MUST appear on the exhibitors before entering the ring. A deposit of $1.00 will be charged for each number - redeemable after the show. Two additional groom numbers will be provided at no charge to each exhibitor. Only people wearing numbers will be allowed in the schooling area. 3. COGGINS CERTIFICATE - a current negative Coggins Certificate will be required for all equines upon entering the park. (Negative E.I.A. test within the prior 12 months). Out-of-state horses must show veterinarian's certificate of health at time of entry. 4. RABIES VACCINE CERTIFICATE - a certificate of vaccination against rabies within one year will be required for all equines upon entering the park. 5. Any inquiry or judging dispute must be made to the Show Officials before the conclusion of the show. 6. The Committee reserves the right to add or change the assigned judging list. Four or more entries will constitute a class. The Committee reserves the right to cancel any class which is not filled. In case of horse or rider being entered and not exhibited, the entry fee will be forfeited. All decisions made by the judge are final. In any class, further tests of horse/rider may be required. 7. Lame horses to be excused at the discretion of the veterinarian and the show officials. Unruly horses will be excused immediately from the ring by the show officials. Continued misconduct of horse/rider will result in expulsion from the grounds. The safety of the spectators and exhibitors requires strict enforcement of this rule. 8. Failure to abide by the rules of the show and show officials may result in expulsion from the Horse Show. This is for both the riders' and spectators' benefit and safety. We urge all exhibitors to display good sportsmanship and courtesy at all times. 9. All kickers must wear red ribbons on their tails. Bring your own red ribbons - some will be available at announcer's stand. Martingales prohibited in all flat classes (non-jumping classes). 10. No stallions permitted in the show. 11. Properly fitted hard hats must be worn in all English Classes and while schooling. USPC/AHSA or preferred ASTM/SEI approved hard hats MUST be worn whenever English riders are mounted. Youth Western riders must wear hard hats. Western and English riders are to be properly attired. 12. Tack changes - only 5 min. allowed. Prepare in ADVANCE- Please let the committee know. 13. Fences to be used may include brush. Please be ready to enter the Ring when the Class is called (be at the In Gate ). If you are in the next class you can remain in the. Ring. 14. Fences to be used may include the brush, brick wall, coop, roll top, wishing well, white rails, natural rails, in and out, and a gate. 15. Supervised schooling breaks will be allowed in the show ring before the jumping classes. A fence will be set up in the schooling area. 16. NO HORSES ARE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD IN THE AREA OF THE CONCESSION STAND. 17. The horse show will be held both days. RAIN OR SHINE. 18. All Championship Classes will be awarded on points only. 1st Place - 5 points 2nd Place -3 points 3rd Place - 2 points 4th Place - 1 point All dogs and pets must be leashed while on the show grounds or Blue Mt Park IMPORTANT -- Bring your own Bucket LUNCH BREAK lunch recess to be announced at the discretion of the Committee Refreshments are available at the Rotary Food Tent and Kountry Kitchen 3.
4 THERAPEUTIC RIDING SHOW Open to all riders currently enrolled in a Therapeutic riding program. No age limit. Competitors may use English or Western tack. Pre-registration on the entry form Is preferred. However, you may register on site by 11:30 A.M. Approximate starting time 12:30 pm. Entry Fee $ classes A. Horsemanship Divisions (may enter only 1 of the 3 Divisions) 1. Walk Only : Assisted by a leader and/or one or two side walkers; Riders will be judged at the walk in both directions. Poise, balance, position and attitude will be considerations. Riders may be asked to halt and back. 2. Walk/Trot : As in 1. To be judged at the walk and trot in both directions. Riders may choose to sit, post or be in jumping position for the trot. Riders may be asked to halt and back. Diagonals do not count. 3. Unsupported Walk/Trot : Independent riders will be judged at the walk and trot both ways of the ring. May be asked to halt and back and perform ring figures such as circles, serpentines and figure of eights. +++ No other horsemanship class may be entered +++ B. Horse Class - Horse is judged for suitability as a therapeutic riding mount. Manners, gaits and adaptability to be counted C. Therapeutic Riding Gymkhana Division (Timed Event) 1. Pole Bending 2. Barrel Racing 3. Figure 8 Stake Race Note: The Gymkhana will be run in 3 sections corresponding to horsemanship classes: Walk Only, Walk/Trot and Unsupported Walk/Trot. Awards for Best leader, Best side walker and Best sportsmanship. Ribbons for 1st-6 places, trophy for First Place, Championship Reserve and Championship ribbon for each Division. Thank You to the therapeutic support people and the PEEKSKILL ROTARY CLUB who have graciously donated the ribbons and Trophies for the Therapeutic Riding Show. STOCK SEAT EQUITATION CHAMPIONSHIP - Points from classes 10 or 11 and 21, YOUTH BEGINNER HORSEMANSHIP - Points from classes 6, 8 and ADULT BEGINNER HORSEMANSHIP - Points from classes 7, 9 and YOUTH STOCK HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP - Points from classes 13, 14 and ADULT CHAMPIONSHIP - Points from classes 2, 12, and YOUTH CLUB HORSEMANSHIP CHAMPIONSHIP - Points from classes 1, 3 and PLEASURE HORSE DIVISION - Points from classes 5, 19 and VERSATILITY RANCH HORSE DIVISION - Points from classes 20,23, & 25. To be judged on rein, conformation, manners and appointments. 14. Youth Western Riding Pattern Pattern will be posted. Changing hands on reins, not following exact pattern, touching the saddle with free hand or two hands on the reins at any time is a disqualification. 22. Western Reining Pattern will be posted. 8 YOUTH CLUB HORSEMANSHIP DIVISION Open to Youth Club Members only. 1a. Youth Club Class - Fitting, Grooming and Showmanship Horses and ponies to be shown in hand, in a halter or bridle at a walk, jog and standing. 3. Western Achievement Class - No hackamores or tie downs to be used. Rider neatly dressed. Judged on seat, hands, and the ability to handle mount. Walk, jog and lope both ways. Will be penalized for wrong lead. Must be able to mount and dismount easily and back readily. Horse or Pony - Suitable flesh, well-groomed, shows proper care. Equipment - (any type of western) - Cleaned and well cared for, in good repair, property adjusted for horse's comfort and rider's safety. 18. Youth Club Trail Horse - Open to 19 years and under To be shown over and through obstacles. May be asked to walk, jog and lope both ways. Entries will be penalized for the wrong lead. PLEASURE HORSE DIVISION Open to all ages - youth or adult - Cooler awarded to Champion. 5. Western Pleasure Horse or Pony - Open - Walk, jog, lope. 19. Trail Horse or Pony - Open To be shown over and through obstacles. May be asked to walk, jog and lope both ways. Entries will be penalized for the wrong lead. 24. Open Command Class - (Break the Gait and Out) Elimination class Rider and horse perform to judge's command. Last one out wins and six ribbons will be awarded. VERSATILITY RANCH HORSE DIVISION 20. Versatility Ranch Horse Trail - Open To be shown over and through obstacles. In addition, must take rope off fence and rope steer; legal catch - 1) neck, 2) two horns, 3) 1/2 head, one horn, one nose. 23. Versatility Ranch Horse Pattern - Open Walk. jog, lope both directions of the ring and keyhole pattern. 25. Versatility Ranch Horse - Open Walk, jog, lope in both directions of the ring and backing. MISCELLANEOUS DIVISION 1b - Open - Fitting, Grooming and Showmanship. Horses and ponies to be shown in hand, in a halter or bridle at a walk. jog. and standing. 1c Fitting, Grooming,Showmanship - For Minis, and Donkeys 4 - Lead Line Class - Must be 8 years and under. Walk only. May not enter other classes except class 1a. 19b. Trail Horse or Pony - to be shown in hand.. 10.

Diagonals will be considered. 8 - Short Stirrup Walk-Trot-Canter - To be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Diagonals and leads will be considered. 9 - Short Stirrup Cross-Rails - To be shown over eight (8) fences not to exceed 18" in height. MAIDEN EQUITATION DIVISION Open to Junior riders 19 years of age and under 11 - Maiden Equitation - Open to juniors who have not won a blue ribbon in this class at any show. Walk, trot, canter 13 - Maiden Equitation Over Fences - open to juniors who have not won a blue ribbon over fences. Eight fences not to exceed 2'6" in height Course to be posted 14 - Maiden Equitation Over Fences same as Class
11 NOVICE EQUITATION DIVISION Open to Junior Riders 19 years and under Novice Equitation - Open to juniors who have not won three blue ribbons in this class at any show. Walk, trot, canter Novice Equitation Over Fences - Open to juniors who have not won three blue ribbons over fences in any shows. Eight fences not to exceed 2'9" in height. Course to be posted Novice Equitation Over Fences -same as Class 15 CHILDREN'S HUNTER DIVISION Open to horses and ponies to be shown by junior exhibitors under 19 years old All classes to be judged on performance and soundness with emphasis on manners Extreme speed is penalized. Fence height about 2'3" to 2'9" Champion to be presented the Hebe Gordon Memorial Cooler The horse winning the Championship three years win the Hebe Gordon Perpetual Bowl 18 - Children's Hunter -To jump eight (8) fences not to exceed 2'9", 19 - Children's Hunter - To jump eight (8) fences not to exceed 2'9" Children's Hunter Under Saddle - Walk, trot, canter. Light contact with horse's mouth required. Martingales not permitted. ADULT EQUITATION DIVISION Open to amateur riders over 19 years. All classes to be judged on seat, hands, guidance and control of horse The champion to be presented with the Dr. Joseph B. Fontana Memorial Bowl 6 - A dult Equitation-Flat To be judged at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring Adult Cross Rails To jump eight (8) fences not to exceed 2'6" Course to be posted 17 - Adult Equitation Over Fences To be judged over eight (8) fences not to exceed 2'6". BEGINNER HUNTER DIVISION Open to any horse, pony or rider, INCLUDING AMATEUR ADULTS, That have not jumped fences exceeding 2'6" or higher at any horse show. Fences height 2' or lower; no in and out 20 - Beginner Hunter - eight fences not over 2' 21 - Beginner Hunter - eight fences not over 2' 25 - Beginner Hunter Under Saddle - Walk, trot, canter. Light contact with horse's mouth required. Martingales not permitted. 13.
12 GREEN HORSE HUNTER DIVISION Open to any horse or pony that have not jumped fences exceeding 2'6" or higher at any horse show. Fences height 2' or lower; no in and out. The Rider can be experienced NLY. 21a Green Horse Hunter - eight fences not over 2' 21b Green Horse Hunter - eight fences not over 2' 25a Green Horse Hunter Under Saddle - Walk, trot, canter. Light contact with horse's mouth required. Martingales not permitted PLEASURE HORSE DIVISION OPEN TO ALL AGES -YOUTH AND ADULT 23 - Pleasure Horse or Pony - Open to all ages. To be shown at a walk, trot, canter both ways of the ring on a reasonably loose rein with no loss of contact. Must stand quietly and back willingly. To be judged on manners, performance, suitability to purpose and substance. Martingales and tie-downs prohibited. Further testing at the judge s discretion Open Command Class - Elimination Class. Rider and horse perform to Judge's command. Last one out wins. The Westchester-Rockland Veterinary Medical Association has graciously donated this bowl Bridle Path Hack - Open to all ages To be shown at a walk, trot, canter, back easily, stand quietly while rider dismounts, leads over one low jump, and remounts. MISCELLANEOUS DIVISION 1 - Youth Club - Fitting, Grooming and Showmanship. Horses and ponies to be shown in hand, in a halter or bridle, at a walk, trot and standing. Contestants must be Youth Club Members. 2- Model Conformation Hunter (Open to Horses and Ponies) To be judged in hand on conformation and soundness Lead Line Class -8 years and under. To be led by an experienced handler. Walk only. May NOT enter other classes. To be held between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. 28- Bareback Contestants may be asked to walk, trot and canter. 14.
13 ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP ES In all cases - must enter all 3 Classes in division to be eligible for Championship. 1 - Walk-Trot Division - Points from Classes 3, 4 and Short Stirrup Championship - Points from Classes 7, 8 and 9. Champion to be presented with the Ray Lapolla Memorial Bowl. 3 - Maiden Equitation Championship - Points from Classes 11, 13 and 14. The George Sampson Memorial Bowl. 4 - Novice Equitation Championship - Points from Classes 12, 15 and 16. The Ed, Fred and Ted DeChristopher Memorial Bowl. 5 - Children's Hunter Championship - Points from Classes 18, 19 and 24. Champion to be presented the Hebe Gordon Memorial Cooler. A horse or pony winning the Championship three years will win the Hebe Gordon Perpetual Bowl. Hebe Gordon was a 4-H leader for 18 years and supervised the Peekskill Rotary Club Horse Show for its first eleven years. She was a leader of the Cossacks 4-H Club. 6 - Beginner Hunter Championship - Points from Classes 21, 22 and 25 6a - Green Horse Hunter Championship - Points from Classes 20a, 21b and 25a. 7. Adult Equitation Championship - Points from Classes 6, 10 and 17. The Dr.Joseph B. Fontana Memorial Bowl 8 - Pleasure Horse Championship - Points from Classes 23, 26 and 27. All Championships will be awarded on points in Classes as follows. 1st Place - 5 points 2nd Place - 3 points 3rd Place - 2 points 4th Place - 1 point... THE WOODSHED TREE SERVICE graciously donated a $30 Good Sportsmanship Award for the English rider who has shown good sportsmanship.
