4 Markel/Cornerstone High Scoring Amateur Award Markel/Lisa Seger Insurance They are the proud sponsors of High Score Amateur Coolers Training, First, Second, Third, Fourth & FEI Only tests at the highest of each level will count toward the High Score Amateur Awards, Thursday, Friday and Saturday classes will count toward the awards. All champion will be announced and awarded on Saturday Evening. Markel/Cornerstone Talent Search For Four, Five and Six Year Old Horses $5,000 in Prize Money and Awards Markel/Cornerstone Talent Search is looking for the next Young Horse Stars. Horses qualify for Talent Search Finals by earning three scores of 65% or better in at any USEF show. In any test the appropriate qualifying levels. Four-year-old at Training; Five-year-old at First Level; and 6-year-old at Second level. Horse may be ridden by a different rider in finals FINALS - COOL AUGUST NIGHTS $1500 cash at each level, plus special awards. 9 Welcome to the California Dressage Society Southern Junior Championships Pages Congratulations to those who have qualified for the Championships & Welcome to those entering the Classes that are open to all Juniors & Young Riders. The Junior/Young Rider Championship Classes are listed on the next three pages. Don t forget to pay your $25 Nominating Fee to Central Office before you enter the JR/YR Championship Show Many fun & educational events are planned for this special show. Watch for CDS Eblasts to keep you up to date. CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES WILL BE SAT. & SUN. FREESTYLES ON FRI. THEORY & JOG ON SAT. EQUITATION ON SUN. Please note that in addition to the traditional TEAM COMPETITON CLASSES, there is a NEW, CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM DIVISION designed especially for those who have qualified for the Junior/YR Championship Classes. CDS JR/YR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 QUALIFYING SCORES CHAMPIONS and RESERVE CHAMPIONS at each level will be automatically qualified for the CDS Championships at the same level. Previous Junior Champion and Reserve Champion Horse/Rider combinations at Training, and First Level are no longer eligible to compete at that level in the Junior Championships. They may be eligible to ride for other points in the Open Classes. All Junior and Young Rider members of CDS are eligible to qualify for one of these Championships. You must be a member of CDS at the time you achieve the scores and the scores must be from the current competition year. The two highest tests at each level will be ridden at the Championship. Juniors and Young Riders are eligible at all levels. The CDS Junior Team Championships are held in conjunction with the Junior Championships. There is no prequalification process but participating juniors must be members of CDS. Make sure your birthdate is on file with the CDS Central Office to receive special junior mailings. Qualifying for the CDS Junior Championships A horse/rider combination must achieve the following for qualification at the various levels for the CDS Junior Championships. Qualifying dates run from cut-off date to cut-off date. As such, we agree to the following: Sport is something done for the fun of doing it. Good manners are fundamentally important in Society and Sport. Fair and friendly competition develops Sportsmanship. All facets of sport should reflect the positive virtues of courage, patience, good temper and unselfishness. 7

10 CDS JUNIOR/YOUNG RIDER CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES Classes are open to Qualified Championship participants only ~ Halters to 1st place, Backpacks to 2nd place, Saddle Pads to 3rd place. Ribbons through 10th in Championships & in first test. Entry Fee: $140 and includes all classes for the level. Entries Close August 3 Qualifying scores must be completed by August 5 and received via scanned to dianaloire@aol.com no later than 4:00 PM on Monday, August 6. Scores received after this date/time will not be counted toward Championship Qualification. No exceptions to this policy. Entry fees will be refunded, less a $30 processing fee, to those failing to qualify and who choose not to participate in other classes. All Championship tests must be ridden from memory. 12 CDS JUNIOR/YOUNG RIDER TEAM COMPETITION CLASSES ~ No qualifying scores are required for entry ~ Special Award to each member of winning team in a division. Ribbons through 6th place. Entry Fees: $105 per rider You may enter as a Team or by yourself. If you are not already on a team, you will be matched with other Individual riders or partial teams. If you cannot be matched up with a team, your entry fees will be refunded or you may transfer to the open show classes. Horse/rider combination may participate on one team only. Horse and/or Riders may participate on one team only. Teams may be made up by 3 to 4 members, riding at any Level If you have fewer than the required number of riders, enter a team and we will try to match you with an individual rider to complete the team. Give your team name and the names of known team members. Teams must have names at the time of entry or a name will be assigned by management. Each competitor will ride one dressage test at his/her level, plus a Dressage Equitation test; and take a Written/Oral Theory test. All required tests will be averaged by percentages 1/3 each. Elimination from one test does not eliminate that rider from the Team Competition. The lowest overall score will be dropped from a each team to the minimum of three riders. Top three overall scores will count towards team placings. Whips and readers are permitted for these classes. DIVISIONS MAY BE ADDED DEPENDING ON ENTRIES. If there are more than five teams, they will be split into Division A and Division B, each with separate awards. If more than eight teams another division will be created. Class 900: Dressage Seat Equitation (Friday) Open to, and prizes awarded to individuals riders, scores will be used for Team Competition. CDS High Score Trophy for 13 & Under; Equitation Medal for Class 901: Dressage Theory (Friday) Class 902: Team Dressage Test: Level, of Choice Test 2 Training Fourth (Sunday) Equitation Class Protocol Times will be posted and riders will compete in appropriate sized groups for safety. Riders are required to: Check in with the paddock steward prior to the assigned times. Stay in the area so that further instructions from the paddock steward can be heard. Any person interfering with the paddock stewards or TD during equitation warm-ups may incur elimination of the rider involved. 10

18 RULES AND GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Cool August Nights Dressage is covered by the rules and specifications of the current US Equestrian Rule Book and will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. 2. Life, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $45 Show Pass fee. Participants in the following classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot (exception: Friesian performance FR222) and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of current membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes. 3. F E D E R A T I O N E N T R Y A G R E E M E N T: By entering a Federation-licensed Competition and signing this entry blank as the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach, Driver, Rider, Handle r, Vaulter or Longeur and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents, I agree that I am subject to the Bylaws and Rules of The United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (the "Federation") and the local rules of Cornerstone Event s (Competition). I agree to be bound by the Bylaws and Rules of the Federation and of the competition. I will accept as final the decision of the Hearing Committee on any question arising under the Rules, and agree to release and hold harm less the competition, the Federation, their officials, directors and employees for any action taken under the Rules. Those likenesses shall not be used to advertise a product and they may not be used in such a way as to jeopardize amateur status. I hereby expressly and irrevocably waive and release any rights in connection with such use, including any claim to compensation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, or to misappropriation. The construction and application of Federation rules are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any action instituted against the Federation must be filed in New York State. All riders entering the Amateur classes must possess or have applied for an USEF Amateur Card prior to riding in the class. All riders in Amateur Divisions must present a USEF Amateur Card when picking up their number or they will not be allowed to show in the Amateur Division. Cards may be applied for at the show office. Jr/ YR rider classes are offered to anyone 21and under (may compete until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 21) Young Riders are eligible for FEI YR classes from years of age. 5. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: Every horse entered for competition will be under the control of the Horse Show Management, but the Horse Show Management will, in no case, be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the Horse Show and its Directors harmless for any loss or accident to his horse, horses or equipment which may occur from sickness, fire or otherwise. 6. ENTRY PROCEDURES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!! A. Please submit completed and signed entry form. Include copies of your membership/horse registration cards, proof of Freestyle score eligibility (if entered in a freestyle) along with all fees. Entries without membership cards will be charged a $20 internet search fee for membership. Incomplete entries may be charges a Late Fee. SEND ALL FEES OR CC INFORMATION WITH ENTRY. B. Entry Acceptance: Entries will be accepted on a first come-first serve basis until classes are filled. Entries received after classes are filled will be notified and, if desired, put on a waiting list. Those on a waiting list not getting into the show will have all fees refunded. NO PHONE entries will be accepted. All entries must be made on official entry blanks and filled out completely as to classes, exhibitors names, addresses, phone numbers, association numbers, and signatures. Parents or guardians must sign the official entry blank of a minor before a number will be released. Changes made after entries are received will be charged a $20 Fee Entries close and MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, LATE ENTRIES: All entries must be RECEIVED on or before the closing date or will be considered a late entry. Each late entry will be charged a late fee of $ Late entries will be accepted and given a ride time only as schedule permits. 8. SCRATCHES: Exhibitors have the responsibility of informing the Show Office of their intention to scratch. Scratches before the closing date may be made for any reason and all fees will be refunded except Office fees. If you decide to scratch any of the classes after the closing date, you must inform show management in writing to (Fax) or by ing the show secretary mmmdressage@gmail.com Scratches made after the closing date of the show will be refunded association fees only. No-Shows will be billed for all unpaid entry fees. There are no refunds after the closing date. Rules continued on next page: 16

19 RULES (CONTINUED) 9. UNPAID CHARGES: Any exhibitor leaving the show with an unpaid balance of entry fees or feed bill, will be billed for these charges and a $35.00 billing fee will be added to the total due. Until these charges are settled, all future entries of rider and owner will be returned. 10. RETURNED CHECKS: Checks returned by the bank or declined credit cards will be accessed a10% penalty (minimum $50.00) 11. TESTS: The Current USEF FEI and FEI YR tests will be used. 12. ARENAS: 20 x 60 arenas of composition footing. Only horses entered in the show will be allowed in warm-up area. No one on foot is allowed in designated warm-ups. Lungeing is to be done ONLY in specified areas. All horses in the warm-up arenas must wear their competition numbers. All arena must be vacated while equipment is being used. 13. RIBBONS AND AWARDS: In classes where three or more riders complete the class, the winner will receive an award. If less than three, ribbons only will be given. Ribbons are awarded to fifth place 14. MANAGEMENT: Horse Show Management reserves the right to itself to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to or arising out of any incident in the show without claims for damages or recourse of any kind. All questions not covered in these rules and regulations shall be decided by the Horse Show Management; their decision will be final. The Horse Show Management reserves itself the right to refuse, accept conditionally, or to cancel any entries, disqualify riders or exhibitors, prohibit exhibition of entries and cancel award prizes, without claim to damages; to change, cancel or combine any classes, to reschedule classes after due notice to exhibitors, or to change rings or rotate judges. 15. FEED AND BEDDING: Please pre-order your Shavings and Feed orders in several days before you plan to arrive. Please call US Feed and Shavings AT (818) All orders must be made by 12:00 PM each day for same day delivery. NO FEED OR BEDDING WILL BE DELIVERED ON SUNDAY 16. HOSE/WASHING: Do not wash horses in barn area-please use the wash racks. We recommend you have a garden hose available. 17. STALL CLEANING: Please deposit all manure at the far end of the barn aisles. 18. STABLING: NO STRAW IS PERMITTED-ONLY SHAVINGS FOR BEDDING. NO FIRST BEDDING is provided, but may be ordered prior to the show. Portable stalls are of wood & canvas construction, 10' X 10" with Dutch doors. Stalls are $ Thu-Sun. Stalls are $130 Thu-Sat or Fri-Sun. Additional days will be charged $50 per day; $75.00 for use of stall during one day of the show. If you need to arrive before Wed. or stay longer than Sun., you must call and make special arrangements (818) We will try to accommodate you 19. SCHOOLING HORSES: Horses not entered in the show must be registered with the Horse show office and will be given a number to be worn at all times outside of the stall. Appropriate office fee, stall or ground fees, drug fees and a $45 Per show day schooling fee must be paid. Any person (s) riding a schooling horse must have signed an official entry blank and/or release form. No school horses are allowed in the warm-up area during the competition. Schooling horses scratched after closing date will be charged the $60.00 office fee. 20. PROTESTS: Any exhibitor lodging a protest must first deposit $100 with the secretary of the show, which sum will be forfeited to the Horse Show if not sustained. All protests must be filed in writing, signed by the protester, and filed with the Show secretary within 48 hours of the occurrence of the alleged violation. 21. DOGS: Dogs must be on a leash at all times, even in the Barn area. Stray dogs will be impounded and held for $50 fine 22. PARKING: Parking is allowed in designated areas only. Violators improperly parked, including NO PARKING ZONES AND FIRE LANES, will be issued citations and/or towed from premises at the vehicle owner s expense. (U.S. Mun. Code / CA. Veh. Code 22658A) 23. OVERNIGHT PARKING: $75 per night with or without hook-ups. 24. RAIN SCHEDULE: In the event of rain, times will be rescheduled to accommodate as many rides as possible. If we cancel your class, your money for that class will be refunded - if you scratch a class that is rescheduled, you will be liable for all class fees. 25. VEHICLES: Minors who do not have a valid driver s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver s license. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalities may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance with Rule 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. 26. MEDICAL WASTE: In accordance with the rules of USEF Bio-Hazardous Medical Waste containers are provided in the stable area. All exhibitors and their agents are responsible for the proper disposal of this waste. 27. HELMETS: Effective April , for dressage: Anyone mounted on a horse must wear protective headgear. 17
