2 New Zealand Deerstalkers Association Incorporated Southern Lakes Branch MINUTES FROM THE MEETING 26th February 2015 Guest Speaker first then meeting commenced 8.50pm Apologies: Simon Brackstone, David Black, Al Gay, Dave and Morgane Rider, Kaylyn McBrearty, Mark Mckay, Mark Salmons Minutes from last meeting: Verified as true and accurate: Macca, 2nd by Nathan Wise Correspondence in: for police asking for vigilance and if crops of Cannabis spotted during hunting to let them know. Anonymous information can be left via Crimestoppers on 0800 CRIMESTOPPERS ( ) or or you can or phone directly on Full details of available by clicking here from climbing club asking for support about access to the Remarkables Ski area. See below I'm sure many of your members are familiar with and have spent time in the Remarkables and its various catchments for hunting and hiking. As you well know it is an amazing destination for outdoor recreation. This year the principal concession holder for the ski resort, NZSki, has chosen to block public access for the entire summer while it builds a new base building. This is without any consultation with the public and they have rejected attempts by several local users to negotiate any access terms. The local climbing community believes this is in breach of their moral and legal responsibilities. We have just started a petition and have a deadline of the 22nd of February to get 5,000 signatures. If you believe your club members would support and sign our petition could you please post on your club Facebook page or your members. In our first 12 hours we have received 350 signatures! Here is the link - NZSkicom_CEO_Paul_Andrews_and_Maggie_Barry_Minister_of_Conservation_Gra nt_gauranteed_year_around_road_acess_to_the_remar/?ckmrzib Alternatively you can also raise the profile of this issue by contacting the Minister of Conservation - Maggie Barry (Maggie.Barry@parliament.govt.nz). If you post please feel free to add a short introduction. It would be great to have your support as we don't believe it is just climbers who have a vested interest in protecting our rights to back country and wilderness areas. Kind regards Philip Philip Green Conservation Officer Queenstown Climbing Club M: Page 2
