Hudson Rod, Gun & Archery Club Board Meeting Minutes April 3, 2012 New Business: Annual Audit 2011: Dave Orf presented the 2011 Annual Audit and pointed out key areas the Board should look at while reviewing the audit. Suggestions: Inventory of assets could be added to Quick Books accounting program. East Property line should be marked or fenced as a way to ID the location. Review and update as needed our insurance policy to add and cover new structures and property. Create a short Safety Video for new members to watch prior to any range use. Motion by Randy and seconded by Mike to accept the 2011 Annual Audit, motion passed. Old Business: Action Chair, Handi-capped chair: Update by Member Steve McDonald That he s raised another $1000 and has another $250 donation with $250 employer match coming in. He has a nice framed print of a scene showing the chair being used by a hunter that he shows to prospective donors. Eventually, the print will be kept at the club. Pistol Range Use: To try and accommodate all users of the shooting ranges the Board is trying new ideas and scheduling practices. Women on target needs both rifle and pistol range to shoot from noon to 4 p.m. when they hold class. We discussed with Bob Amey for his concealed carry class needs for the range. He has approximately 38 students per class and needs a range from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to shoot. The class uses 10 stalls to shoot from. Six new 8 foot wide pistol target hangers with chicken wire were built by Rick Ottino and Craig Horwath to be used on the rifle range for pistol shooting as needed. This should free up the pistol range for Women on target and they can do all their shooting on the rifle range. Jeff Prescott advised that they should be placed in front of the 25 yard berm for best backstop performance. Pistol shooters would be allowed to move closer, keeping a straight line for safety to the targets to shoot. Annual Fund Raising Banquet: Mike Cravens advise the Board that 30 chairs at approximately $10 each plus a few tables are needed for the banquet on Friday April 13, Don made a motion to buy as many tables and chairs needed for the banquet. Seconded by Mike and motion passed. Rental Agreement to Rent Club: Mark Wotruba reported that the rental agreement updates are about done. There will be a provision that you must be a member to rent the Club. If the renter is not already a member, the first year $75.00 membership fee will be added to the club rental amount.

6 1. Here are a few things to keep in mind regarding the club. 2. Thank you all for volunteering for the club clean up day. We had approximately 30 members attend. We policed up the trash from the grounds and brushed out the entire area needed to reclaim lead this summer. If you didn t sign in for work hours, see Jeff Prescott or Craig Horwath to make sure you receive credit. 3. Orange plastic open action flags are now required on the Rifle and Pistol ranges. The club purchased 200 and they can be rented or purchased for $ We still need a RSO on all ranges. Without a RSO, the range will be closed. 5. The range hours of operation have been expanded to include Saturdays. There are special events that will close a range from time to time. This information is listed on the club calendar on the wall just inside the door. We also have a white board on the ranges and in the clubhouse with details on when the ranges will be closed to open shooting for a special event. I have personally kept an eye on the ranges for the past five months to see how much they are in use. There is only a waiting line about 10% of the time. The Board and a few volunteers have been working hard to accommodate all shooting, but these things take time. If you want quick changes, then I suggest you help out and get your work hours. There are over 500 members and about 40 do the majority of the work. 6. The club is closed on: Saturday April 28, 2012 for Youth Day. Sunday May 13, 2012 for Mother s Day. Sunday May 27, 2012 for Memorial Day. (Saturday The 26 th, may be closed if not enough employees/rso to be opened). Sunday September 2, 2012 for Labor Day. (Saturday The 1 st, may be closed if not enough employees/rso to be opened). November 17 to 25 for deer hunting. 7. The Board will meet the day before the first Tuesday of the month. This will insure that there is a week between the Board meeting and the Membership meeting that is held on the second Tuesday of the month. 8. The upcoming meeting for the rest of the year will be: Monday April 30, 2012 Board. Monday June 4, 2012 Board. Tuesday June 12, 2012 Membership Meeting. Monday July 2, 2012 Board. Monday August 6, 2012 Board. September is to be determined due to Labor Day Weekend. Tuesday September 11 Membership Meeting. Monday October 1, 2012 Board. Tuesday October 9, 2012 Membership Meeting. Monday November 5 Board. Tuesday November 13, 2012 Membership Meeting. Monday December 3, 2012 Board. Tuesday December 11, 2012 Membership meeting. 9. The June Membership Meeting is an extra meeting to keep the club informed on what s happening 10. Constructive criticism is appreciated. There will be a suggestion box on the fireplace mantel. 10 Today Governor Walker announced that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has certified more than one million students through the Hunter Safety Program. I would like to thank the expertise of the volunteer instructors whose generosity helps make Wisconsin known for safe hunting, said Governor Walker. In 2011, more than 25,000 students completed the hunter s safety program, pushing the total enrollment since the course s launch past the one million mark. Already in 2012, classes are under way or planned for each of the state s 72 counties for students to carry on the tradition and skills that make hunting in Wisconsin a safe experience for all. The hunter education course is taught by volunteer instructors who truly know hunting and have a genuine passion to ensure the tradition is passed on to generations in the safest way possible, Jon King, Department of Natural Resources Hunter Education Administrator and conservation warden, said. The instructors and this course are the top reasons Wisconsin did not have a single gun related fatality during the 2010 and 2011 gun deer seasons. Started in Dunn County in 1967, the course seeks to instill in students the knowledge and skillsets to be a responsible hunter. The basic course consists of a minimum of 10 hours, during which students learn how hunting accidents are caused and how they can be prevented. The classes consist of lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, practical exercises and individual study and activity assignments. In 2011, there were 924 classes offered by 3,802 volunteer instructors. The way we teach the course is evolving, King said. Now, the course has a big emphasis on the real experience a more hands on approach which is applicable to real life. However, what has not changed is the course focus on the rules of firearm safety. The DNR has also introduced an online version of the course and features bilingual instructors, as well as additional materials for Wisconsin s diverse population. We are ready to instruct students with other challenges educational or physical, King said. We can offer sign language courses and have had students who use wheelchairs. King emphasized that all instructors are serious about their role in passing hunting knowledge to the next generation. Instructors will have a student retake the course to ensure the proper knowledge has been absorbed if necessary. It s not ideal, but safety is always the top priority.
