1 Pit Stop The SCCA Southern Indiana Region Monthly Newsletter - November Volume 62 Number 11 November 2015 REport Greetings, everyone, and welcome to the 11th edition of the 2015 Pit Stop. Our season is about to wrap up, but it s not over yet. We ve still got one rally left on Sunday, November 8th. I hope everyone is planning to participate in our final points event of the season. We also have a couple of meetings remaining in First up is our November member meeting (Tuesday, November 10th), and it s an important one. The November meeting will be your last opportunity to vote for the 2016 Board. If you are unable to attend that meeting, we have provided a ballot in this edition of the Pit Stop. Our final gathering of the season will be our annual awards banquet on Friday, December 4th. Plan to join us on the 4th to celebrate our 2015 season. You will find more information about this event later in this issue. Recent Events Autocross #7 of 7 Our final points autocross of the season was held at the MAAC on Sunday, October 4th. Bob Sonntag designed a great course for the event. Thanks, Bob! Paul and Paul (Dornburg and Gibson) once again dueled for the top spot. Paul Gibson finished the day in first place with Paul Dornburg in second - only seconds behind (indexed times). Barry Beaman took third place. Congratulations, Paul Gibson, on your first place finish! You will find a complete listing of the event results later in this issue. Rally #6 of 7 Darlene and Jim Cannon hosted Rally #6 in Petersburg on Sunday, October 18th. The Cannon s designed a very unique route consisting mainly of ONTO instructions. The route was very easy to follow (the name of the rally was Easy Rally ) and that was reflected in the results. All five member entries finished in the 100 s. Our single guest class entry, George Kendle and Donte Meriwether, completed the rally with a score of 355. Top spot in Class A went to Richard and Stacy Grav. They scored a 140. Congratulations Team Grav! Ben and I decided to run in class B and won that class with a score of 103 also taking best time of the day. In fact, both Class B entries scored better than the three Class A entries. Ernie and Sue Roales finished with a score of 125 in Class B. Congratulations, Class B, for, once again, topping the GPS and rally computer equipped Class A entries! Upcoming Events Rally #7 of 7 Our final rally of the season will take place on Sunday, November 8th in Evansville. Ben Davis and I are designing the route for this rally. The route will cover lots of familiar roads in northern Vanderburgh county. Our goal is to provide an easy-to-follow rally with no tricks or traps to worry about. We want everyone to make it to the end, because... The rally will end at my house and Leslie and I will be providing food and drinks to celebrate the end of another great rally season. Also, if anyone is interested, I m planning a hot lap competition in iracing on my triple screen racing sim setup. Most of you can beat me on an autocross course, but, can you outrun me at Limerock or Barber on my home turf? (probably) Watch the mailing list and the website for more details on this event. Date: Sunday, November 8th Location: Townsquare Media, 117 Southeast 5th Street, Evansville, IN Schedule: (see rally schedule later in this newsletter) Rally Master: Ben Davis and Matt Beasley (assistant) 2015 Awards Banquet Our annual awards banquet is scheduled for Friday, December 4th at Rolling Hills Country club in Newburgh. The evening will start at 6:00 pm and, after dinner, we ll present trophies to our season champions. You will find additional details about this event later in this issue. Also, keep an eye on the mailing list and the website for information about submitting your RSVP s.

3 Sports Car Club of America - Southern Indiana Division - Board of Directors Minutes - October 6, 2015 Attendees: Matt Beasley, Regional Executive; Paul Blaylock, Activities Chairman; Bob Sonntag, Treasurer; Ben Davis, PitStop/Website; Lora Blaylock, Secretary; Paul Dornburg, Advisor to the Board; Officer Reports: Bob reported that the club has approximately $5,000 cash on hand, with minimal bills outstanding. PaulB reported that he has recently found a few bugs in the points calculator, and is fixing them as he finds them. So far, the bugs have not caused an error in standings. Due to the deadline for Awards Banquet RSVPs and mail-in ballots for 2016 Board positions, the deadline for November s Pit Stop will be moved up to October 21. Matt reported that member Dave Lershall has been added to the board list. The club currently has 114 members in good standing. New Business - Ben reported that October s Pit Stop is headed out the door today. In addition, the website is mostly back to normal. He continues to find minor issues, many of which are behind the scenes. It appears that the problem was on our provider s side, rather than someone specifically targeting our site. - Previous discussions about upgrading the club trailer have not come to fruition. With the end of the season fast approaching, it s time to think about it again. Jay Wolf has offered a place to work on the trailer between Christmas and New Year s. PaulD will prepare a list of tasks to be accomplished with the help of Jay. Help needed will be solicited at a later date. The possibility of awarding workers with a free entry in 2016 was discussed. - Bob will contact Kurt at MAAC to let him know that the club will not host an event there on Sunday, October 11. Matt will check with Terry about the possibility of using the Roberts Park site for a Fun Autocross or two in November. - Board nominations will be received at next week s Membership meeting. PaulD has offered to take over Pit Stop if Ben will continue to be the webmaster. Matt reported that Dave Lerschall will accept a nomination for Regional Executive. Matt is willing to move to the Advisor position, and the Blaylocks are willing to continue in their current positions. - The Awards Banquet is scheduled for Friday, December 4 at Rolling Hills Country Club. After discussion, it was agreed to charge $40 per plate. The menu will be the same as last year. PaulB will send reminders to turn in plaques and trophies by the November membership meeting. - PaulB will start work on dates for the 2016 calendar, to be discussed at the November board meeting. We will need to have firm dates by mid- December. - The TMMI Autocross was a success, although there is room for improvement. Matt and Bob think it is likely we ll be asked to host another autocross for them next year. Bob reported that after expenses, the club earned $774 for the day. This includes a donation to the Warrick County Community Foundation (lessening our insurance cost significantly) and a thank you of $50 to the Louisville SCCA for sharing loaner helmets with us. Bob also gathered feedback after the event that will be useful for putting on events in the future. - There are two rallies left on the events calendar: #6 on October 18, and #7 on November 8. The October Membership meeting is confirmed at Smitty s on Franklin. PaulD and Terry will give a report on their trip to Nationals. As there was no further business, the meeting adjourned SIRSCCA Board of Directors Ballot Please circle your choice or write in another SCCA Member, if you so choose Regional Executive Dave Lerschall or Assistant Regional Executive Richard Graves or Ernie Roales or Assistant Activities Chair John Jr Crowe or Jim Cannon or Treasurer Bob Sonntag or Activities Chair Paul Blaylock or Pit Stop Paul Dornburg or Secretary Lora Blaylock or Your Name: Member #

4 Sports Car Club of America - Southern Indiana Division - Membership Meeting Minutes - October 13, 2015 Regional Executive Matt Beasley welcomed all to the meeting, especially visitors who attended the recent autocross. Secretary Lora reminded everyone to read the meeting minutes in Pit Stop, and to be sure to attend next month s meeting to vote for 2016 Board officers. Treasurer Bob Sonntag reported that the club is operating in the black and has few outstanding bills. Activities Chair Paul Blaylock apologized as he discovered this afternoon that the Berry Points were reported incorrectly in October s Pit Stop due to his error. They will be updated to September 30 and available online tonight. Ben Davis reported that the deadline for November s issue of Pit Stop will be a week earlier than normal (October 21 instead of 28) due to deadlines for the Awards Banquet and 2016 Board voting. Advisor Paul Dornburg noted that if one wants to go fast, one should drive a Porche. Regional Executive Matt Beasley reported that things are coming together for the annual Awards Banquet, and he reminded all to turn in their plaques and traveling trophies to PaulB by November s Membership meeting. Matt reported that the club held an autocross for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana on September 27. The event went well, and earned the club $774 after expenses, including a $175 donation to the Warrick County Community Foundation. There were 49 entrants, only two of which were SCCA members. Ideas to improve the event have already been collected, and it is likely that the club will be asked to do this again in the future. Many thanks to all who helped, especially: Dave Lerschall, Terry Davis, Stacy Grav, Jeff Jackson, Yancy Smith, Paul Dornburg, Bob Sonntag, Duane Duke, Barry Beaman, Stephen Yockey, Ernie Roales, Jay Wolf, Don Kelley, John Warren, Jim Cannon, Richard Grav, Steve Backer, and Robert Seabrook. Ben and Matt are preparing for Rally # 7, which will begin in downtown Evansville and end at Matt s house with a season-ending party. Watch your for details. While you don t have to run the rally to come to the party, it ll be more fun if you do! Awards were presented for Autocross # 5, Thinking Out of the (Chicago) Box by Dave Lershall. 28 people participated, with perfect scores earned by Paul Gibson and Paul Dornburg. Jim s Simple Course for Autocross # 6, on September 20, was enjoied by 21 members and Paul Dornburg again earned a perfect score for the day with Tom Bootz close behind. Ballots will be available in the November issue of Pit Stop and accepted at the November Membership meeting on November 10. PaulD and TerryD shared video and maps of the courses at the recent SOLO Nationals in Lincoln, NE. They did well, and had a great time. They encourage others to come along next year - this year enjoyed the largest field ever: some 1,200 drivers. Matt reminded all that visitors are always welcome at the Board meetings on the first Tuesday of the Month at Townsquare Media. November s membership meeting will be at Smitty s on Franklin. The door prize was won by Terry Davis, after which, the meeting adjourned. Annual Awards Banquet & Holiday Party Friday, December 4, Rolling Hills Country Club - Newburgh, Indiana 6:30 P.M. 10 SPORTS CAR CLUB OF AMERICA: A club with many interests Many faceted in its endeavors, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) might best be described as a service organization. It serves over 50,000 members throughout the United States by sanctioning and administering a variety of automotive related activities through more than 115 independently chartered regions. No other single motor sports organization in the world conducts more events than the SCCA. These events range from amateur and professional road racing to road rallies, autocrosses, rally crosses, hill climbs and auto shows. The SCCA is an ever-growing organization for the automotive enthusiast. Because the SCCA is member oriented, the club stresses participation on a broad basis. Regardless of your experience or background, if you are an automotive enthusiast there is a place for you in the SCCA. These avenues range from amateur or professional road race driver, to weekend rally or autocross driver, and from race worker or official. In order to successfully sanction and conduct a comprehensive autocross/rally/road racing program many experts in timing and scoring, communications, safety inspection, medical, flagging, course/race control and other skills are needed. Schools are held to train the drivers and workers and various degrees of licenses are awarded based on knowledge, ability and experience.
