3 2018 NTXCLC Regional Meet The Few, The Brave, The Proud 2018 North Texas CLC Regional Meet was a Success! Story by Bill Kaufman Despite the cold, wet and downright miserable weather on December 8 th, 2018, we had a pretty good turn out from many loyal members who braved the Texas weather and drove their pride and joy to our 34 th Annual Regional Meet, which was held in conjunction this year with the Toys For Tots at Frank Kent Cadillac in Ft. Worth. Among the Brave were Alex and Connie Beloff in their Magnificent original 1996 Fleetwood Brougham, Terry Makenzie who brought his Fabulous Survivor 1956 Sedan de Ville and a very unique 1959 Coupe, both driven with the help of his friend Joe all the way from Longview Texas! We also had two Allantés in attendance driven by Jim and Judy Hanson and Frank and Helen Remes. Minnie Bedrick brought her 2014 CTS all the way from Oklahoma! Bill Ische, well I guess you could say that he brought his 189,000 mi 2010 CTS all the way from Galveston, TX. And the club President, Rubye Musser braved the weather in her CRV. There was also good showing of the members that chose to not drive their old caddies but still attended the meet and brought Toys for Tots to put under the big Christmas Tree and enjoyed each other s company. Frank Kent provided some delicious sandwiches and Catalonia for all to feast on. Even with the low turnout due to the weather we still had enough Cadillac s and members present to hold our 2018 Regional meet. And I am glad we did because it was one on the most enjoyable and memorable meets yet. Hey, I guess when you have a bunch of friends and Cadillac lovers in close quarters under the same roof for a few hours only good things can happen. We truly did have a blast! 2018 North Texas Regional Meet Winners 1950 s Class 1 st Place Terry Mackenzie 1956 Sedan Deville 2 nd place Terry Mackenzie 1959 Coupe 1990 s Class 1 st Place Alex Beloff 1996 Fleetwood Brougham 2000 Class 1 st place Minnie Bedrick 2014 CTS 2 nd Place Bill Ische 2010 CTS 3 rd Place Rubye Musser 2015 CRV Peoples Choice Terry Mackenzie 1956 Sedan Deville Page 3

4 2018 NTXCLC Regional Meet Car Stories Thanks to Bill Kaufman Photos by Jim Hanson It was fun sitting around the table sharing stories about our cars during the recent Regional Meet. Here are a few para phrased and condensed versions of some of the stories told. Terry McKenzie About his 59 Coupe with the 550 HP CTS-V engine which has participated in ( 8) Power Tours. I saw this car and noticed it had a license plate that said IOU- GOD.. I promised the owner that if he would sell it to me that I would put IOU-GOD on the license plate. My 1956 was a true barn find that never saw the light of day for appox 20 years Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special, 65,000 Original Miles Interior-Gold Rose inlay, Exterior-Black Purchased 2014 in Anchorage, AK from an Air Force Colonel Restored Original 365 CI Engine, Transmission and Air Conditioning System Minnie Bedrick - About her 2014 CTS. Well, my late Husband died and left me some money from an insurance policy. I thought to myself,, Hmmm.. Well everything is paid up and the house is paid for soooo I'm gonna buy myself a Cadillac. And I did!! Bill Ische About his 2010 CTS - Its just my daily driver that now has miles on it. It travels back and forth from The Colony to Galveston on a regular basis. When Bill was asked about his other old Cadillac he had years ago when he joined the club he explained, Yes, that was a 1960 Convertible with red interior. I regretted selling the car but the profits were turned it into Sandy s (wife s) new kitchen. So all is good at home. Frank Remes About his Red 93 Allante his wife Helen exclaimed. Yes, he goes and buys them and then I pay for them.. Haha. Jeff Podmers I like the old pre war cars so I have a 1939 LaSalle 5027 Opera Coupe 1959 Cadillac Coupe Deville,75,000 Miles Interior-Gray, Exterior-Black Purchased Early 2017 from around the Brownsville, TX. area Original 390 Engine removed and replaced with 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Supercharged Engine & Transmission 550 Horsepower and 550 Foot pounds of Torque Jim Hanson - About his 93 Allante - I have threeallantes and really like the body style and sportness of the cars. I saw this one and thought hey, I know that Dad is 93 years old but I think he needs an Allante. So I bought it for him. Alex Beloff About his 1996 grey Fleetwood Brougham built right here in the Arlington GM plant. It has miles on it. I really like driving the car, I drive everyday around where we live and the kids really love the car. They say, there goes that old man in that old car. Alex is very proud to add a First place Blue ribbon to his collection from NTXCLC of original papers and history of the Bill Kaufman - About his Red 54 Coupe I bought that car from a picture on Ebay. The owner assured me that it was a running, driving car so I purchased it. Well don t always believe what your told when it comes to cars on Ebay. To make a long story shorter I have disassembled the entire car and have been putting it back together over the last thirteen years but now she is beautiful.. Her name is Stella. Chris Cohen - I have a 56 coupe and a 57 Eldo both of which have been restored just sitting in the Garage. At least they are out of the weather but I think it is time to get them out of the garage and bring them to the CLC events for everyone to enjoy. (Note from Author; both of these cars are amazing! ) Page 4

When the shareholders of the defunct Henry Ford Company called in Detroit machinist Henry M. Leland to assess the company s assets for their planned sale, Leland convinced them to stay in business. He combined Ford s latest chassis (frame) with a single-cylinder engine developed by Oldsmobile, another early automaker. To that end, the Cadillac Car Company (named for the French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe Cadillac, who founded the city of Detroit in 1701) was founded in August Leland and his son left Cadillac in 1917 and started the Lincoln Motor Company...and immediately bankrupted it. Though Lincoln has enjoyed a great deal of success in the past 97 years, most of it was without the Lelands. A serious tax error to the tune of $4 million ($50M today) forced Leland to auction Lincoln off. Henry Ford bought the company on the cheap ($8.5 million; $117M today) in Page 9
