1 July, 2007 Presidential Ramblings John Dolphin, President REMEMBER: The CRCC July Monthly Meeting is at Pat McGrath s Dealership. July 19 th at 7:00 PM. The 2007 Crusin The Ave Car Show is history. Another success is in the books. What a great day for a car show, the weather could not have been better. We had a great turnout of cars with a good number of drive up registrations the morning of the show. We had almost enough Corvettes to ring the outside wall of the Lindale parkade. Thanks to all the CRCC members that pitched in to lend a Contents Page Presidential Ramblings 1 Minutes, June Meeting 2 Dates for your Calendar 5 July Calendar 6 Officers 7 Dates from Social Director 7 Governor s Report 8 NCCC Convention 8 NCCC Local, Regional and National 9 Grand Opening of Winsor Manor Vinton 10 June 9 car show photos 11 West Region Competition Schedule 13 hand and make the day a success and to those members that contributed hours behind the scenes preparing to make the show a success. The club needs to say a special thank you to Wayne and Dick for all the work they put into planning, organizing, and conducting another great car show. The preliminary numbers, I am hearing, will put smiles on the faces of the charities benefiting from this year s show. Another group that must be recognized is our sponsors starting with the Palo Savings Bank as well as all the major sponsors on the back of the T-shirt. Next time you get that shirt out of the drawer, look at the back and see if you can do business with one of those sponsors. Lots of CRCC members were spotted at Bloomington Gold this year as well as the NCCC Convention in Nashville. I think the head count was 22 CRCC members for dinner at Crabby Joe s in downtown Nashville the Satur-

8 Page 8 July, 2007 Governor s Report Selected Particulars Elegantly Edited & Delivered Two Successes! The Car Show and Convention were both GREAT! CRCC members came out en masse and offered their services while working some of the many jobs necessary to put on our large show. CRCC was also represented in Nashville with fourteen current members and two previous members. NCCC Convention Those attending Convention either had a relaxing vacation or a working vacation. Bob and Diane Bowen had a working vacation. They got stuck working with Registration all day Saturday and worked all day Wednesday and Thursday at the High and Low Speed Autocrosses. They also entered the Funkhana and Rallye. Bob and I had an E-Board meeting Sunday morning at 8:30 and a Governor s meeting at 1:00 PM. Almost everyone taking part in the Rallye, Drags or Autocrosses had a meeting at 2:00 on Sunday. It is really something how people can ask the same question five or six different ways and not understand the answer. Drivers meetings are always like that no matter where you race. Tours of the Nashville area were taken Saturday, Sunday and Monday to see the sites of Nashville, the back roads of the countryside, National Corvette Museum and the Jack Daniel s plant in Lynchburg, TN. Dinner was on our own each evening so we took in some of the eateries of Nashville with different types of food and various price ranges. Ask Dolphin s and Schoon s about the Stockyard. Almost every evening there was entertainment from 7-11 PM. This was a great time to get together and socialize with CRCC members and other Convention goers. For those not racing, there was a hospitality room open from 10 Am until 7 PM with all of the free beer and soda you could want (right Roger??). The Corvette Mall was open the same hours and had all kinds of specials and deals for members to spend their money. Convention is a Social Event with opportunity for competition. Monday brought us the drag races and a four hour rain delay. Once everything started it was a fun and exciting day. Bob Bonar had registered for the bracket drags but had never dragged before so he jumped in and learned as he raced. In the Bracket Drags Bob finished 2 nd in this class and brought home a trophy. Chris got into the Record Drags and won her class. She finished second almost winning the ladies top eliminator trophy. I won my class, but was eliminated in the semi-finals in the Record Drags. Chris was eliminated in the Bracket drags in the first round in a very close race, while I lost my opening race to the eventual Top Eliminator after leading most of the way. I guess that is what drag racing is all about. Everyone had a great time and the cars ran well. We got back just in time to say hi to CRCC members attending the party and checked out to go to bed. Getting up

9 Page 9 July, 2007 at 5:15 that morning was just too early. Rallye drivers meeting at 8:00 AM in the parking lot coming up tomorrow morning. Tuesday brought us more rain as the Rallye started in the rain and was with us for about half of the rallye. Bowens finished 15 th just missing a trophy. Beebe s, Dolphin s and Bonar s all ran the Rallye but couldn t finish ahead of the Masters (Bowens). Wednesday took us to Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, TN. Chris and I ran High Speed while John Dolphin ran the Low Speed. Chris finished fourth while I finished fifth. It was really awesome finishing on the high bank of the Speedway. This was a very nice road course. John Dolphin pulled out all of the stops in his last race to finish third and bring home a trophy. Bob Bonar was a corner worker for the event and used the time to scout the best way to run the course when his turn came up tomorrow. Thursday took us back to the Speedway to run Low Speed Autocrosses. Bob Bonar ran only his second event and took second place while Chris and I both placed fifth. Once again they had a great course setup and everybody had a fun-filled hot sweaty enjoyable day. Roger Thompson volunteered as a corner worker for the event and watched and was counting the days until he gets into the sport. Friday morning was the Breakfast and Awards ceremony. After the awards most packed up and headed home. Chris and I went to the National Corvette Museum do some updating of the Kiosk before going back for the Banquet. Bob forgot to tell me it was a dress up affair so I showed up in a racing shirt with sandals. He said he told me so I might have forgotten or not listened at all. Banquet lasted until 12:10, ask Bob and Diane. I can t say we were there at the end because we were leaving at 6:30 for home. Everybody had a great time, but I think there needs to be a vacation after Convention to relax and unwind. Next year Convention is in Tulsa, OK. It will be a long road trip but will also be a great time. Think about attending. Competitively yours, Beebs NCCC Local, Regional and National Check Midwest Region Website for information and a flyer as it becomes available: June 30 th July 1 st is the weekend for the seven autocrosses in Council Bluffs sponsored by the Heartland Corvette Club. Nice little course and lots of fun. Come join us. July 14-15th Let s head out of Region to Quincy, Illinois and enjoy a great weekend of ten autocrosses on a go-kart track. I have been told this is one of the most fun events of the year. Check Midwest Region Website for information and a flyer as it becomes available: July 29 th Another out of Region Event is a one day event with four autocrosses at The Mark of the Quad Cities. This would be very close to home and is a small parking lot fun event. August th will be CRCC s seven autocrosses at Hawkeye Downs. We put on a very good weekend and it is because our club members get out and help. Mark it on your calendar and be ready when Terry brings it up to the meeting about needing workers and helpers. We offer a pizza party at the end of the Saturday s events. Club members are asked to bring a dessert to share with the group. Once again, come join the fun. September 1-3 rd will take us to Council Bluffs, IA again for Fun Fest. Saturday will be Car Show, Funkona, and Rallyes. Sunday and Monday takes us to the parking lot for Low Speed Autocrosses. These events will be on the same parking lot as the July 1 events.

10 Page 10 July, 2007 CRCC Helps With Grand Opening Of Winsor Manor Vinton On Saturday, June 2 nd, a dozen, or so, Corvettes found their way to the Winsor Manor Assisted Living facility on the west edge of Vinton. The assistant manager, Denise Harris, had contacted CRCC to see if we would be interested in showing our cars and visiting with the residents there. Denise explained that the idea of having CRCC there evolved from the unbridled enthusiasm that one of their residents has for Corvettes. His name is Larry. Larry Fuehrer was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in He walks with a cane and special built-up shoe. He s small in stature, but has a very big heart. They call him our little guy. His passions in life are Corvettes and Harleys. It s all he talks about, says Denise. So she thought the cars and bikes would be a big treat for all the residents. Only a few Harleys showed for a short visit, but Denise remarked that the residents all thought that the Vettes more than made up for it. They loved us! Shortly after our arrival, Larry emerged from the facility with an enormous smile on his face. And it wasn t long before he was in the passenger seat of Dennis Purcell s yellow C6 convertible. Rumor has it that triple digit speeds were reached, and judging from Larry s excitement on their return, it must have been true. Apparently, we made his day and added some spark to his life. It was an enjoyable day for the Vetters, also. Good food and drink was provided, along with demonstrations in chainsaw sculpting and tae kwon do. We also got to tour the beautiful facilities. This was a bit unnerving, however, as I found a small room adjacent to the broom closet with my name on it. Apparently, my sons are doing some planning for me. Late in the afternoon, some of our

A great time was had by all! - Dick Butschi group headed for Independence and their big cruise and car show there. It was a good chance to hand out car show flyers and see some sweet rides. A rainstorm put an end to our outing, but it was another great day for CRCC and enriched our reputation for doing good things for others. I d like to thank the following members for their generous par-
