2 Bill s BS 01/14/17 What a FANTASTIC banquet! SCCA Chairman of the Board, John Walsh joined over 50 Misery Bay members and guests at Bob Mazza s South Shore Wine Company for our annual Awards Banquet. We were also joined by Lake Erie Speedway s AJ Moore and his wife. After a buffet from Calamari s, libations from Mazza s, and cake from Deb Young, RE Sam Mehler reviewed our year. John Walsh gave us a short report on the state of SCCA. We then indulged in our infamous personal awards. To assist Sam in practicing dodging groundhogs, Joel presented him with a groundhog pylon. After all the cars, classes and car numbers that Andrew Donaldson used through the season, Logan reminded him with a Hot Wheels model after each other award. Andy Ferrara also had some choice items to hand out. In the real awards, major congratulations to our Member of the Year, Joel Donaldson, who like his driving, was all over the place, Solo Co-Chair, Rally volunteer, and so many other spots. Amazing! We had an incredible battle in Solo, with Sam winning the PAX Championship, but Justin Stull won Solo Driver of the Year. In all, we handed out 20 trophies. by Bill Stewart John Walsh REALLY liked our gift to help him get home to Rochester We finished up with our Chinese Auction with major items like a floor jack. Everyone got a door prize. Major thanks to Tim Mackey and Kathy Vanderwende. Bob Mazza was a fantastic host and provided the Sparkling Riesling for the class winners. The class winners also got a gift certificate from Tires 4 Less. Of course, Special Thanks to John Walsh for coming down from Rochester even after storm warnings. All in all, it s been a very good year! The weekend before, I travelled to Florham Park, NJ for the NorthEast Division Mini Convention. I was joined by Charlie Campbell. This was the most expensive Mini-Con I can remember with very few seminars. I understand the scheduling meeting was challenging. NEDIV will have SEVEN! Majors weekends. VIR, Summit Point, Pitt Race May 13-14, Pocono, Watkins Glen, Thompson, and NJMP. The awards banquet was nice with 3 different buffets and a good turnout from the winners. Phoenix American s Kurt Rezzatano won Driver of the Year. He won T-2 at the Runoffs in a Mustang. In December, I got a chance to go to the Performance and Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis. This is sort of like SEMA for just racing. WOW, thousands of booths and I can t believe all the folks I knew. There were seminars 2 With Randy Pobst at the PRI show too. I saw Lyn St. James and Amy Ruman at the Women in Racing. I spent most of the second day at the International Council of Motorsports Sciences seminars on track safety. I heard from the top folks in the nation an at lunch, Indy racer, James Hinchcliff talked about how serious his crash a year and a half ago at Indy was, how continued on p. 9

Kathy mentioned that we should plan on a big 50th anniversary in 2019 with getting as many of our former REs as possible. 9 Bill s BS continued difficult his rehabilitation was, and how grateful he was for the rescue team, his surgeons, and the rehabilitation trainers. In the afternoon we saw extracations from a variety of race cars. I went to the Trans-Am seminar, and then the surprising Pirelli World Challenge one. They are leaving SCCA!! and will be sanctioned by USAC. The Formula 1600, 2000, and FA are gone too! We still do have the new F4 series. Well, I am packing up for the SCCA National Convention. It promises to have lots of help about running regions and there is a ton of fun things to do in Las Vegas! I went to the North American International Auto Show last weekend. Always lots of shiny new cars and shiny models too. It s still going on this week. Worth the trip to Detroit. The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona end January. It looks like the Ohio Winter Rally has been cancelled after 50 years. Greg Lester could not find someone to take it over. Our Erie Auto Show starts February. I always like the custom cars on the outside. Our annual Sno-Go Rally will be coming up all too soon and I will need lots of help! Both Crowley s and the Burger King on Sterritania have closed, so I will have to hustle. I m thinking it s time to visit New York again. Keep watching on Facebook and our web site. I will be sending out s too. February ends and March also begins with the huge Cleveland Auto Show at the IX Center. So think about the neat things we can do next year. Pitt Race keeps growing and Nelson Ledges may just come back too. Lots of planning to do! We have new wireless timing coming! The Runoffs will be at Indy!
