11 THE 2019 ZR1 CORVETTE BY THE NUMBERS The Corvette ZR1 has finally been revealed, and as expected it s a numbers machine. We don t know everything about the ZR1 yet, but here are the most important figures released so far. 755/715 Chevy estimates the output of the ZR1 to be 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. That s 101 hp and 65 lb-ft more than the Corvette Z06 and 300 hp and 255 lb-ft more than a base naturally aspirated Corvette Stingray. 16 That s the number of valves the ZR1 s 6.2-liter V-8 has. Despite intel that suggested the LT5 would be a dual-overhead-cam V-8 with four valves per cylinder, the LT5 in the ZR1 uses the same tried-and-true pushrod overhead valve setup that Chevy small blocks have used for decades. We still think a Chevy DOHC V-8 is coming, but this isn t it. 52 According to Chevy, the ZR1 s Eaton supercharger displaces 52 percent more air than the Z06 s LT4 supercharger. That explains why the unit is 2.9 inches taller and requires a large power bulge in the hood. The central carbon-fiber halo hood piece also accommodates the supercharger s intercooler. 950 The ZR1 s optional stanchioned rear wing generates 950 pounds of downforce at the track, according to Chevy. It can be adjusted by about 5 degrees. Even the standard wing is said to create 70 percent more downforce than the Z06 s aero kit. 100,000+ Pricing for the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has not yet been announced, but it s a safe bet its starting price will exceed $100,000. The 2018 Corvette Z06 starts at $81,585 and the previous 2009 ZR1 started at $105,000. However, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter promises the ZR1 s price won t be double that of a Stingray, which starts at $56, The Corvette ZR1 has a top speed of 210 mph, making it the fastest production Corvette ever, according to Chevy. 13 Cooling has been an issue for the Z06, so Chevy added four new radiators to the ZR1 for a total of 13 heat exchangers. The front end was redesigned with new intake openings to feed air to these new cooling components. 3,560 The ZR1 uses the most carbon fiber of any Chevy to date, which contributes to a curb weight of 3,560 pounds about the same as a Z06. 12 KMCC MEETING MINUTES - DECEMBER 6th Call to order at 7:37pm by President Haen: Welcomes membership and Guest s. Mary Lou welcomes back former member Ron Horness from Sheboygan Falls who drive a 2008 C6 Corvette. Ron and his wife Jane will be joining the club. Officer Reports: Secretary s Report: Approve minutes from last meeting by Chuck Tuschl and sec. by Kermit Schulz. Then approved and passed by membership. Treasurer s Report: Rick Waldbauer gives financial report as said. Motion to approve by Rick Schulz and 2 nd by Jon Zoran. Then approved by membership. Vice President: Gary Hoppe: Membership Status & Points. No report given this night due to warm weather in the Bahamas where Gary and Sue are vacationing. Governors Report: Dick Huibregtse: Dick reports NCCC updates went well. Dick reminds membership that the NCCC renewals will be of the variety so make sure you copy that from NCCC. Also Dick reports the Autocross that was canceled last year in the Milwaukee area is trying to be held up at Road America at the Motorplex. Dick will keep us informed. Dick also reports membership probably will hit the century mark next month. President Report: President Haen: Mary Lou reminds membership that Dave Modra has now taken over the Newsletter. Please let Dave or I know if you are not receiving. Committee Reports: Sunshine: Julianna reports this month 2 cards were sent out to members. Rick Entringer for shoulder surgery, and one was sent out to Glen Crystel because of the passing of his mother. The Crystel Family then sent Julianna a nice thank you card back which then she gave to the club. Club was informed at this meeting that Gail Huibegtse s brother had passed away. Old Business: Renewals: Process went smoothly for renewals and membership should be over the 100 mark for the first time in club history. Salvation Army Bell Ringing: Mary Lou Haen Sheboygan area: All slots are filled. Juliana Schulz has Manitowoc Area: All time slots are full and bell ringing started on Dec. 5 th in Manitowoc. Bell ringing started in Sheboygan on Dec. 7 th. 12

13 Meeting Minute (p. 2 continued) January 6 th Awards Banquet: Lighthouse Inn, Two Rivers January 6 th. So far 54 people are attending as of this meeting. Last chance to register is December 26 th when final dinner count is requested. Auto Show in Chicago: Feb. 13 th & 14 th thru RA. Website. As of this meeting there are 37 spots filled on the Feb. 13 th bus, and 25 filled on the 14 th of Feb.. There is room left on each bus. Register at KMCC members already on both busses. New Business: Charity Donations: Membership discusses on how the funds should be given out. Herb Buhl brings up on how club used to give to individuals years ago. Pete Muehleis suggests that the club keep donations down to 4 groups. Dick Huibregtse suggests club donate up to 6 groups. Membership further discusses and agrees on how many charities on which ones to donate to. List distributed on paper at meeting from all ed suggestions. Here is the final list of charities the club will donate to: Sheboygan Co. Cancer Care, Holy Family Memorial Cancer Care, Salvation Army Sheboygan Co., Salvation Army Manitowoc Co., Salvation Army Calumet Co., and Sharon Richardson Hospice of Sheboygan Falls. Membership decides on these charities then President Haen asks for motion from membership. Dick Huibregtse makes motion and Julianna Schulz seconds the motion, then approved by membership. Treasurer Rick Waldbauer wrote checks and gave to members to deliver and get photos of the check presentations on behalf of KMCC. Winter Brunch: Herb Buhl Sunday, January 28 th, 10:30 cocktails, 11:30 seating at Millhome in Kiel, Wis. Daytona Party: Canceled unless somebody steps up to chair event. Good of the Order: All is well and nothing to report. Move To Adjourn: at 8:10 by Rick Schulz and sec. by Kermit Schulz. 17 FROM THE EDITOR: By David Modra I know we ve got a number of members who also belong to the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS). This year 2018, the NCRS Convention is being held in Las Vegas on July During the week prior to the convention there will be eight different road tours from all over the US and Canada leading to Las Vegas. Each road tour consists of Corvettes, travelling about 250 miles per day and stopping at various sights and Corvette collections along the route. The route and all of the hotels, stops, etc. are preplanned by the tour leader. Once we get to the convention, there are all kinds of activities planned including a trip to the Shelby Museum. In 2018, the feature Corvette will be the One of the road tours in 2018 will be following old Route 66 from Illinois to Nevada. This is a fantastic trip as Betty and I did it about six years ago. A ton of original Route 66 structures as well as museums, diners, shops, etc. So if you re interested in the ultimate two week Corvette road tour, making friends with other Corvette people and seeing some of the great sights of the United States, consider this trip. Check it out here: NCRS Road Tour or contact to me. The last night before the convention, all road tours converge on one sight for a huge party before parading in to the convention on Sunday. There can be anywhere from Corvettes that the police escort along the route. While this is not an official KMCC event, with enough interest, we could make it one. 18 REAL HIGH MILEAGE CORVETTE! Mark Blackwell of Jacksonville, Fla., has logged more than 1 million miles in just two Corvettes. But the first one, at just 342,000 miles, was a garage queen compared to his second car. The red 2000 Corvette coupe has racked up 773,338 miles, enough to earn it a place of honor in the National Corvette Museum. To save you the math, that's an average of about 43,000 miles per year, or about 117 miles per day, every day, for 18 years. Blackwell logs a lot of highway trips to Georgia and southern Florida for work. And the Corvette is on its original 5.7-liter V8 engine, though Blackwell recently had to get the headgasket replaced at around 750,000 miles. Blackwell turned his keys over to the museum in Bowling Green, Ky., earlier this month, calling it a "fabulous car, no complaints here." The video below from the museum shows how surprisingly good the Corvette looks, considering all the places it's been. "If any car deserves to be in a museum, it's this one," Blackwell says, "for the miles it's gone and the things it's done for me." He credits its handling with saving his life one dark night when a bumper fell off a semi, forcing him to swerve into an interstate median, blowing out two tires in the process. "Had to obviously get the tires replaced and the car towed in that night. But any other car, there was no way in the world that I would not have hit that bumper." 18
