Following their stay at Brunel University 9 of the athletes went onto the World Championships in Berlin where Bolt won 3 gold medals and broke the world records for 100m and 200m. We chose Brunel as the training base for the PACE/Racers Track Club athletes due to the world class indoor and outdoor training facilities; close proximity to the major London airports and our headquarters in Teddington and the availability of good accommodation onsite. The University will provide a single point of contact for visiting teams and organise all elements of the preparation camp, from booking of sports facilities to accommodation, catering, security liaison and transport logistics. We also offer 418 standard rooms with communal facilities. In a purpose built village development we are currently constructing a further 112 studio flats equipped with double bedrooms to compliment our single accommodation. All rooms have washing facilities, secure access and computer network access. Catering A full range of catering options is available on campus including a large, modern, food hall, two sports bars, and a high street style coffee shop. The University is used to catering for large scale events and provides a very wide range of food to meet the needs of all dietary requirements, cuisines and cultures. As part of our banqueting offering we can also provide prestige menus for high profile events and VIP guests. Conference and Event Facilities Brunel University has a dedicated conference suite consisting of five conference rooms, a 98 seat theatre and a 300 seat, multi-purpose, flat floored function room. In addition the campus can also provide a further 29 seminar rooms, 22 theatres and 425 seat auditorium with full AV facilities. The University can also provide access to the Beldam Gallery. As a versatile, purpose built space the Gallery can be used to display temporary exhibitions and is also a useful venue for informal launches and parties. Site1 Site 1 mainly consists of residential student accommodation as well as two faculty buildings. Access for vehicles is controlled through barriers restricted by ID cards or Security Control via call points. There is free pedestrian access. Building access is controlled by swipe card access control which can either be set at 24/7 or can be timed for open and close. This area is patrolled by security officers and police officers. The area is covered extensively by CCTV monitored from the security control room. Some buildings are protected by intruder detection systems. Site 2 Site 2 has the majority of the facilities and services for the University (lecture theatres, classrooms, laboratories, academic and administrative offices, catering, hospitality, Student Union, Media Services, Sports Centre, Indoor Athletics Centre, Library, retail outlets, bank, Security Control Centre and Computer Centre) including more residential accommodation. Access for vehicles is controlled through barriers restricted by ID cards or Security Control via call points. There is free pedestrian access. West of the river Pinn is a recent acquisition, which has been left as grass meadow. There is only key access to this site. Site 5 East of the river Pinn is a large outside grass sports facilities with football and rugby pitches. There is key access for pedestrians and vehicles. West of the river Pinn is an undeveloped grass meadow with free pedestrian access to the public.

18 Brunel University Security Personnel and Operations Structure The Security Department forms part of the Estates Operations division, reporting through to the

18 18 Brunel University Security Personnel and Operations Structure The Security Department forms part of the Estates Operations division, reporting through to the Director, Resources and Operations. The Security Manager reports to the Head of Operations and has functional control over approximately 30 security staff. The uniformed security staff operate 24/7 and each shift works under a Shift Leader, who report to the Control Centre Manager. In addition to shift personnel there are 2 x Security Controllers who operate the Security Control Room during normal working hours, a Security Support Officer and an Access Control System Administrator. Physical Security The Security Control Room is roughly placed in the centre of the campus and is a secure environment. The campus wide CCTV system is monitored from here and the access control system, intruder alarms and vehicle barriers are operated, as is the fire detection system. The security team will also respond to calls from disabled and fire refuge help points. All keys are issued from the control room. Security staff patrol on foot, on bicycles and also have an Emergency Vehicle. All radio communications emanate from the control room. All vehicle traffic onto the campus is controlled through vehicle barriers with intercom linked to Security Control. The Security Team The security team are a mixture of in-house and contract staff. All Shift Leaders are directly employed by Brunel University. Two of the Shift Leaders are Special Constables. The security team boasts a very low turnover which is well below the industry standard. Three of the team are female. All of our security staff are trained to Community Safety Accreditation Scheme standards and certificated as such. We also have a permanent on site security presence in the form of a resident police officer. Security Procedures The security team work to a detailed Security Operations Manual and to a documented Security Strategy.

All shift leaders and the Controllers are trained in Control Room Operations to BTEC standard. Shift leaders also undergo supervisory skills courses.

They wear high visibility blousons clearly marked Security with black NATO jumpers, white pilot shirt and black tie, black chinos and combat style boots.

All security staff carry radios and are in constant contact with Security Control and carry police notebooks.

We have fully functional day/night speed domes operating across the university network and terminating at digital video recorders.

This includes equality and diversity, customer service, first aid, law, statement writing, data protection, conflict management and restraint training. All shift leaders and the Controllers are trained in Control Room Operations to BTEC standard. Shift leaders also undergo supervisory skills courses. Uniform Security staff are dressed professionally. They wear high visibility blousons clearly marked Security with black NATO jumpers, white pilot shirt and black tie, black chinos and combat style boots. They wear Security epaulettes and stab protection vests. The whole impression is that of professional law enforcement. All security staff carry radios and are in constant contact with Security Control and carry police notebooks. CCTV CCTV operates extensively throughout the campus both externally and internally and is monitored and controlled at the security control room. We have fully functional day/night speed domes operating across the university network and terminating at digital video recorders. We have a CCTV code of practice which is compliant with the Data Protection Act. Access Control All buildings on campus are protected by electronic access control systems requiring a valid card entry and is operated and monitored by the security control room. Emergency Incidents Certain key staff are designated as Incident Officers in the event of an emergency and have the Vice-Chancellor s written authority to act for the University in the event of a serious incident, directing the University s response until relieved by a more appropriate person, or until the incident is closed. The Incident Officer s main function is to exercise overall control.
