12 Peaches & nectarines: imports vs exports (tonnes) % +8% Imports Exports ] The EU is a net exporter of P&N (2011) ]Imports : tonnes (31% P, 69% N); ]Exports : tonnes (48% P, 52% N); ] Exports have steadily increased over the last ten years (except 2003) while imports have a quite stable trend; ] The biggest exporter country was Spain (increase of exports in 2011 by 45% vs. 2010). Chile 47% ] EU imports are mainly from Chile (47%) and South Africa (21%) followed by Morocco (10%); ] An important drop compared with 2010 has been registered in quantities imported from Turkey (-16%), Egypt (-7%) and Serbia (-83%); ] Increase in imports from Chile (+28%), South Africa (+5%), Morocco (+11), Argentina (+51%) and Tunisia (+17%). 15 Imports of other stone fruit (tonnes) % -5% -8% Plums Cherries Apricots ] The EU is a net importer of plums and cherries and a net exporter of apricots; ] Plums are the main imported stone fruit, mainly from the Southern hemisphere: South Africa (50%) and Chile (36%); ] In 2011 the plum imports increased reaching a level closed to the average of the last ten years; ] Turkey is the first country of origin for cherries (57%) and apricots (44%).
