5 ELIGIBILITY Competitors must hold membership with the DCRA, NSRA or other recognized Rifle Association. CLASSIFICATION TR Class Target Rifle as defined under DCRA rules. F/TR Class F/TR Class as defined under DCRA rules. TR Class and F/TR Class shooters will be squadded together. F/TR competitors are not eligible to win traditional TR trophies but will be awarded medals for individual matches, daily and Grand Aggregates as outlined in the programme. RULES OF COMPETITION These matches will be conducted under the Rules for Fullbore Rifle Competitions as published by the DCRA, as interpreted by the Match Committee. The decisions of the Match Committee are final. 5

6 SPECIAL NOTES Equipment: DCRA and ICFRA rules governing equipment will be rigidly enforced. Trigger and rifle weights may be checked at the discretion of the Range Officer or any member of the Match Committee. Ammunition: Ammunition for all matches will be competitorsupplied Target Rifle classifications allow for the use of either 7.62 NATO (.308 WIN) or 5.56 NATO (.223 REM) with a maximum bullet weight of 156gr. and 63gr. respectively. F/TR Class allows the use of either 7.62 NATO (.308 WIN) or 5.56 NATO (.223 REM) with no maximum bullet weight. A minimum of 152 rounds is required for the Grand Aggregate. This does not account for ammunition required for shoot-offs or practice shots. 6

7 SPECIAL NOTES continued SAFETY ON THE RANGE IS MANDATORY AT ALL TIMES. Bolt flags are required to be inserted in the open actions of all rifles at all times except when on the firing point. If for any reason it is not practical to insert a bolt flag, the bolt must be removed. Bolt flags are available for purchase from the Match Office at a cost of $3.00. The NSRA has a policy of 100% chamber inspection conducted by Range Officer. No competitor may leave the firing point until his/ her rifle action and chamber have been physically checked by the Range Officer or Firing Point Officer. When a match has been completed, competitors are required to remain with their rifles at their shooting position until their rifle actions and chambers have been verified clear by the Range Officer. It is asked that the shooter assist the Range Officer in this task by presenting their rifle with loading port upward and butt slightly raised so as to present a clear view of the action and chamber. Upon the Range Officer s pronouncement of clear, the shooter is to insert the bolt flag and proceed with vacating the firing point. 7

8 SPECIAL NOTES continued Dry Firing: Dry firing may only be conducted on the firing line from the shooting position and when the firing point flag is red. Unsafe Ammunition: Since ammunition supplied by competitors may have been loaded to unknown specifications, and the specifications may present some hazard when used in competition, all competitors and range staff are required to be observant of unsafe or hazardous conditions. These conditions may be indicated by evidence of over-pressure in fired cartridges, which may be shown by excessively flattened or blown primers, difficult extraction or jammed bolts, or blow-back smoke or gases. Any instance of these conditions must be brought to the immediate attention of the Range Officer, who may require the rifle and/or ammunition to be removed from further use on the range. 8

9 Squadding: Depending upon entry numbers, competitors will be squadded either two or three per target. Competitors will fire shot-for-shot in turn, in sequence from the right-hand competitor to the one on the left. TR and F-TR competitors will be squadded together. Practice shots: No practice shots are permitted. Sighting shots: Two convertible sighting shots will be fired at each range before commencing on score. A competitor may convert both sighting shots or the second sighting shot only. Score cards: Score cards must be signed and turned in to the Range Officer immediately after completing each range in a match. Protests: All protests must be made in writing to the Match Committee. The decision of the Match Committee is final. 9

10 Statistics: The people who perform this demanding job are kept very busy compiling statistics. Therefore, print legibly, be accurate, and give the stats personnel privacy so they will be able to perform their many duties as efficiently and rapidly as possible. Trophies: Trophies, some of which are more than 100 years old, are not permitted out of the Province of Nova Scotia. Governor General Medals (Silver, Bronze) may only be won by Nova Scotia Residents. All other medals, souvenirs are unrestricted except where noted in the Prize List. Ties: Shoot-offs will be used to break ties for individual match trophies. TR Class and F/TR Class Shoot-offs will take place according to DCRA Fullbore Rule All other ties for match and aggregate prizes will be resolved through DCRA Fullbore Rules Chapter 24. Challenges: Challenges as permitted under the rules cost $2.00 each. Payment must be made to the Range Officer before the score card for the match will be accepted and the competitor cleared to leave the firing line. 10

13 TARGET RIFLE MATCHES - INDIVIDUAL KENNEDY GOLD MEDAL A Gold Medal given by the NSRA and won outright by Major C.F. Kennedy, E.D., M.P. who presented the medal for perpetual competition. 10 rounds at 300 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal THE LEGION MATCH The Century Trophy which was presented by the Pictou Co. Military Rifle Association in 1960 is awarded for the highest score in this match which is sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, Scotia Branch, No. 25 and the 615 Bluenose Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets. 10 rounds at 500 meters. 14 CORBIN MATCH The Corbin Challenge Gold Medal to be awarded to the competitor with the highest score in this match. 7 rounds at 300, 500 and 600 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal STANFIELD TROPHY A trophy presented in 1932 by Frank T. Stanfield, Esq., of Truro in memory of his distinguished father, who was Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. 10 rounds at 300 and 500 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal HIGGINS-MERCHANTS CUP The Merchants of Halifax Cup presented to the Association in 1882, won outright by G. S. Higgins in 1967 and given back to the Association for perpetual competition. 10 rounds at 500 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal 14

15 THE MACDONALD STEWART CUP A challenge cup given by the Macdonald Tobacco Co. and an annual grant from the Macdonald Stewart Foundation. First stage: 10 rounds at 600 meters, Final stage: 15 rounds at 800 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal H.H. MORSE MATCH A trophy presented in 1966 by H.H. Morse, Esq., of Bridgetown, formerly of the Annapolis Regiment. He had been a regular attendant at the NSRA Annual matches since 1912 and was a member of the Nova Scotia Inter-Maritime Team on numerous occasions. 10 rounds at 800 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal NAVY MATCH A challenge trophy presented by the Chief and Petty Officers of the H.M.C.S. Stadacona in 1959 for annual competition. 10 rounds at 600 meters. TR - Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class - NSRA Medal 15

16 HIGGINS-BROWN CUP The Brown Cup presented to the Association in 1899 and won outright by G.S. Higgins in 1964 and given back to the Association for perpetual competition. 10 rounds at 800 meters. Prize: Entries are restricted to NSRA members 60 years of age and over, residing in Nova Scotia. Awarded to the Older Member shooting Fullbore Target Rifle with the highest score in the Corbin Match. Cup and NSRA Medal Note: Will not be awarded in 2018 VETERANS CUP Presented in 1925 by Captain J.H. Hills Based on the Grand Aggregate, the award is restricted to members and ex -members of the Canadian Forces (including Active, Reserve, Auxiliary and RCMP) with 15 or more years service, shooting Fullbore Target Rifle. 19 THE ELLIOT CHALLENGE CUP (300 Meter Aggregate) Presented by Dr. C.A. Elliot of Sawtelle, California, formerly of the 76 th Regiment, Truro, in 1928 in remembrance of his father R.B. Elliot, formerly of the 63 rd Halifax Rifles and the days he spent on the Bedford Rifle Range. Haley, who for 30 years was a member of Colchester & Hants 47 th Anti-Tank and 88 th Field Battery Rifle Associations of Windsor. Aggregate score of 600 meter matches TR: Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class: NSRA Medal NSRA SECRETARY'S AWARD (800 Meter Aggregate) Presented by the Association to recognize accomplished long range marksmanship and to commemorate the first Annual Prize Meet held at the Bull Meadow facility in First presented by David G. Beaulieu, long-standing Secretary/Treasurer of the Association. Aggregate score of 800 meter matches TR: Trophy and NSRA Medal F/TR Class: NSRA Medal Note: There must be three shooters in contention of an award for medals to be presented. 20

Check that spotting disc shows the last shot and re-signal its value. 4 A shot has been fired but no signal has been made. Examine target and spotting disc carefully and signal its value or a miss. 5 Competitor has challenged for a higher value. Re-check the shot hole and re-signal its value. 6 It is suspected that there is a second shot on the target. Clear and patch out the existing hole. Mark and signal any shot found, if no shot found, send up a clear target. 7 A miss has been signalled but competitor has challenged for a scoring hit. 22 Standard Telephone and Radio Messages, continued 8 The spotting disc appears not to have moved. Butts officer to consult with marker and confirm that the spotting disc is in the latest shot hole. If successive shots have been very close to each other, the RO is to be advised accordingly. 9 Marker appears to be unduly slow, BO to check and correct if necessary. 10 Finished with target, patch and half mast or rig for next range or put away. 11 Stand easy, lower target patch out and put target back up. 22

24 1 0 2 TR V 1 F/TR V V Scoring plug positions for TR and FTR Class. DCRA TR target dimensions will be used with FTR Class using a wear center half the diameter of the TR V-Bull. The Target Marker shall score the target assuming an F/TR Class shooter. The Scorer on the line will interpret the value of the scoring plug depending upon the classification of shooter for whom he/she is scoring. The above diagrams denote the value of the scoring plug positions for each rifle class.
