1 RG Circular 02/2017 Date: 16 January 2017 RE: New Competition Structure for Novice Levels 1-3 Dear Coaches, Judges and Club Owners, Following the proposal made at the technical assembly at Gym Games 2016 and feedback received from the provincial chairpersons, the RGTC would like to confirm and outline the new structure for level 1-3 gymnasts which will take effect from 2017 onwards. The diagram below is a summary of the new structure and the qualification process for all competitive novice rhythmic gymnasts. Please note the dates and venues listed in the diagram apply to 2017 only, however the structure will remain unchanged from year to year. District Trials (Qualification for Provincial trial) (Suggested April) Provincial Trial (Qualification for Zone) (Suggested May/early June) Zone Festival (North, South) (23/24 June 2017) Novice Club Trophy All level 1-3 gymnasts eligible 5/6 May- South (Eden) 6 May Coastal (KZN) 19/20 May-North (Limpopo) Group Festivals All Groups eligible 3/4 November Hosted in 3 zones North, South, Coastal *Note: To keep in line with the new philosophy of individual competition focus in the first portion of the year and group focus thereafter, there will be NO group competition for Level 1-3 at any competition other than the Group Festival in November in We will re-evaluate this in the future as this year will be the introduction of the new structure and will be treated as a trial run for group participation.

District Trials Organised by each district and/or province Income generated will go to the district All gymnasts receive a participation medal/ribbon based on their score (gold, silver or bronze) 1.1 Qualification for provincial trials All gymnasts receiving above points in total qualify for the Provincial competition. 2. Structure of Provincial Trials Organised by each district and/or province Income generated will go to the Province All gymnasts receive a participation medal/ribbon based on their score (gold, silver or bronze) 2.1 Qualification for Zone Festival ( North and South) All gymnasts receiving above points in total qualify for the Zone Festival competition. 3. Structure of Novice Zone Festival Gymnasts must qualify at their Provincial Trials to take part at the Zone festival Organised by the RGTC and hosting province All gymnasts receive a participation medal based on their score as well as a certificate. Each gymnast will receive a sling bag as a memento of the event indicating the level participated in If the hosts can source some other goodies to put into the sling bags that will be great for the gymnasts eg. Rulers, pens, key rings, cap, wrist band, etc. Apparatus awards for top 6 and Overall places in each age group are to be awarded. Hosted by a different province within each Zone (those who are able and have facilities) each year on a rotation basis to make it fair for those travelling far.

Structure of SAGF Novice Club Trophy All gymnasts are eligible to compete and there is no qualifying competition All gymnasts receive a participation medal only based on their score - NO Apparatus, Overall or Team medals will be awarded. Overall club trophies will be awarded for each level. Calculation - after all age groups in a level have competed the results will be sorted according to clubs, the top 5 totals from each club will be tallied. A 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place trophy will then be awarded in each level Main aim of this competition is participation Hosted in 3 zones ( North, South, Coastal) Provinces within each zone will rotate hosting the competition each year, e.g.: 2017 held in Limpopo, 2018 held in North West. 5. Group Festival All groups as outlined in the SAGF Levels Program are eligible to compete and there is no qualifying competition Income generated will go to the SAGF RG account All groups receive a participation medal based on their score Hosted in 3 zones ( North, South, Coastal) Provinces within each zone will rotate hosting the competition each year, e.g.: 2017 held in Limpopo, 2018 held in North West.

4 6. Additional Points to note Scores The RGTC would like to inform all that the below scores will be used for the respective bands for both the District and Provincial Competitions. Please note these will also be used for the Zone Festival result calculation. These are only provisional scores and are subject to change in 2017 following the first Novice competitions and the RGTC will re-evaluate this before the Zone Festival in June. Description RG Qualification score and above Bronze award Up to Silver award > Gold award > Dress Code District and Provincial Competitions: The gymnasts dress is at the discretion of their district and/or province however it is recommended that all gymnasts compete in their club leotard. Zone Festival Competition: The gymnasts dress is at the discretion of their district and/or province ie. The gymnasts and coaches may be in provincial or district attire as may be decided by their provincial federation however once again it is recommended that all gymnasts compete in their club leotard.

5 Awarding of Colours The awarding of district and provincial colours as well as the number of gymnasts who are awarded colours is at the discretion of the district and/or provincial federation, but this level of competition does not warrant the awarding of district and/or provincial colours. The RGTC has no influence over the policies regarding the awarding of colours within each district and province and therefore it is the responsibility of each district and province to communicate this information to the clubs. We would like to urge all coaches to take careful note of the information above and the new competition structure. The RGTC looks forward to an exciting 2017 Competition season with increased participation in our Novice Sections.
